Wireless-G Access Point WAP54G & Thompson SpeedTouch ST585

For the life of me, I can't get this device to work. I am trying to create a point of access to a device not pc a FTA Receiver. The FTA Receiver needs access to the internet and works very well with an ethernet cable. I had hoped to use the WAP54G as a wireless connection. The installation CD does not recognize the modem/router Thompson SpeedTouch ST585 so I've been using the web to access the settings of the WAP54G. I did some readings using Google search and access via the web, I had to leave it white instead of enter "admin" after that tumble down the Userid first discovered, always through Google, I have tried setting the SSID, the same name as the SpeedTouch ST585 "INFINITUMB69844" done more reading I found that I needed to set the security on the WAP54G are the same on the SpeedTouch ST585 in my case as WEP passphrase window and set the WEP encryption key and press the button generate, which filled up all the empty spaces of keys. I am on windows XP and the fact a network routine from the control panel and also the repair option. Still no go. Unity of FTA, I am trying to connect has a DHCP option auto who will fill the IP address once it connects to the network so far all I get is zero, it does not connect. I need help with the settings. I did put my PC IP static or tried other methods suggested on Google. I thought to ask the experts. Please help me. Chris

How you try to configure your Access Point and where are you going to connect this AP?

As you mentioned that you have a Thompson Speedtouch router, and that you have entered the same settings wireless to your router to the AP, and if you plan to connect the AP to another device, then it is not not possible.

WAG54G will work only in Repeater Mode / Mode Bridge that with the Linksys router, with all other routers it only works in a Mode Access Point, it means you need to keep this access point wired to your Thompson Speedtouch modem always.

  • Unable to connect wireless integrated Touchsmart IQ506 to Netgear's WNHDE111 Wireless - N Access Point

    I have a new HP Touchsmart IQ506 and the experience has been very positive with one exception: the Wireless-N networks.

    I bought a Netgear Wireless-N reduction kit.  I am able to see (in the Vista network and sharing Center and available networks), using the Netgear Wireless-N USB adapter Netgear WNHDE111 Wireless-N access point provided with the Touchsmart IQ506 and connect to it without problem.  But I am unable to connect directly to WNHDE111 with Wireless-N adapter integrated the IQ506 (on the HP Touchsmart IQ506 or on another PC with the Wireless-N support, a Sony Vaio NS150 computer).

    Ralink 802.11n adapter indicates that "working properly" in the Device Manager.

    Am I missing something?  Are there instructions on how to connect the IQ506 up to an access point Wireless N with the built-in wireless adapter?


  • Access point WAP54G whose MAC addresses are the same

    I have 3-point WAP54G access that are connected together using wireless bridge settings found under the "AP Mode" in the menu.

    I would add a fourth unit, but as I am doing so I discovered that the 4th unit network MAC address is the same as that of the three already existing in my lan bridge WAP54Gs.   How can this be?  All units, aren't supposed to have unique MAC address of the factory.  I have triple checked to make sure that I am indeed two different units WAP54G.  Yes there is indeed to disting WAP54G units in my possession to what appears to be duplicate MAC addresses.  Then two units with double MAC addresees exsist on the same bridge LAN?  If this is not the case, is it possible to change one of the units, itg is not possible to return a device?  Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

    A client mode Linksys Wireless-G Access Point can communicate with a wireless-n wrt300n router?

    I continue to see the next note that worries me, it won't work:
    NOTE: The WAP54G will communicate only with an another WAP54G when the value for the Client Access Point.

    If this is not the case, what can I use to connect my PC to the floor to my router to wide band wireless downstairs. I prefer to use something other than a wireless NETWORK card because the PC is in a bad spot in the House.

  • E3000 as or to get a better access point?

    Hello, I installed an EA8500 router as my main 'brain' The entire House is wired ethernet. I have a House of very good size, so upstairs in my room... the signal of the iphone is not the best... I had a previous firmware Linksys E3000 current tomato from my router laying around... so I have set up to work as a WIRED Access Point and it works fine.

    Now my question is... I would purchase say... An AC Wireless extender/access point? Is there a different big an E3000 and a real access point/range extender wireless?

    Hi manofice. If you have a lot of wireless devices that are capable AC and having a challenge with the connection to the EA8500, then Yes, it may be preferable to get an AC range extender. But if only the iPhone was having a problem with wireless connectivity and you mentioned adding the E3000 as access point is working fine, then it is not necessary to get an Extender for the moment.

    Everything works except that without access to the router config page.

    The problem is, I can't access my page to config WRT1900AC Wireless Access Point and the only solution is to connect temporary exit HAND ROUTER LAN to WAN WRT1900AC, can I access my AP

    (after restart of course). Change after I return the cable to the LAN again and restart WRT1900AC. This works.

  • WRT600N advanced routing problems / use as Access Point and switch

    Firmware 1.01.36 build 4 The WRT600N is connected to an existing LAN and is really only used as a Wireless N access point. There is nothing plugged into the WAN port; only the LAN port. I have NAT disabled. All traffic from a client connected to the WRT600N wireless going very well for the gateway and the Internet router. The customer experience is very good. However, there are a few minor issues as follows.

    1] Setup > Advanced Routing tab has only the following options; to do this, * not * have a picker 'Mode '. NAT, static routing and dynamic routing (RIP).    IS this NORMAL, OR should HAVE a MODE (e.g. switch) AS REFERRED to IN THE HELP FILES?

    [2] even if a connection wireless or wired to the WRT600N works very well, the WRT600N himself is unable to connect to the internet. It cannot connect to NTP to set the time and I can't ping past the gateway router using the ping of the WRT600N diagnostic utility. I ping the gateway 192.168.1.4 port inside, but I can't use the diagnostic the WRT600N ping ping utility something beyond this gateway port. The routing of the WRT600N table is below. THE GATEWAY SHOULD NOT BE 192/168.1.4? HOWEVER THE WRT600N DON'T ME LETS NOT CHANGE IT.

    Topic 1. Linksys, used to have a mode option to switch between the modes 'Bridge' and 'router '. The latest routers call it now better NAT power. Gateway mode means THAT NAT is enabled. Router mode means THAT NAT is disabled. The help files are probably a little bit over. But the option is still the same.

    Re 2. It's normal if you use it as only access point (i.e. do not use the WAN port). The router always takes into account that the internet connection via the WAN port, i.e. it will always use the default gateway on the WAN port. If nothing is connected to the WAN port on the router itself has no default gateway and therefore has no access to the internet. Generally, you are not able to establish the default route in either advanced routing page. It is a known limit of these routers if you do not use as a router.

    I think that you must configure your AP as Repeater wireless... Follow the link here , make sure that when you set your Access Point to the "Wireless Repeater" mode, this device will communicate only with a different Access Point Linksys (WAP54G) and wireless G of Linksys (WRT54G) router...

  • Wired access point / wireless home network

    I am a littlenew to this, sought several messages, but cannot find one that fits exactly to my question/questions.

    The installer: The floor cable modem to the router (BEFSR41).  An electrician on desktop on the floor. A wire hard out of the router (WRT54G) B downstairs for LAN wired stereo components and a Wi - Fi connection for laptops.

    Router B has DHCP set IP same as router and connection is on the LAN 1 port instead of port Internet, Xbox and other components on the LAN 2, 3, 4 ports. Laptop computer Upsairs wireless internet access and are working very well. I can't move the modem to the floor, and the wireless should point down because if it's on the floor there is too much signal loss.

    Question: Xbox 360 is connected to router B (bottom) via wired LAN, and after about 5 minutes loses the internet connection.

    Question: What is the correct configuration for the router A and router B? Is there a better Setup for this?

    I can't answer this question because I do not know the subnet on your network.

    Allows to make a few assumptions here well and you can change your IP according to your needs.

    Router

    IP=192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0

    Remember that it is the side LAN not IP address on the WAN side.

    Router B

    IP=192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0

    Default gateway = 192.168.1.1

    DNS = 192.168.1.1

    The WAN should be turned off or disabled.

    WAP54G

    (Default) IP=192.168.1.245/255.255.255.0

    Default gateway = 192.168.1.1

    Customers

    IP=192.168.1.100-150/255.255.255.0 (this isn't how you should express this value correctly, but it is easier for the non technical to understand person).

    The default gateway on all clients would be 192.168.1.1

    The DNS on all clients would be 192.168.1.1

    I assumed router B is hard wired from a LAN port on the router B on a LAN port router.

    The channels on router A & B should be different unless your roaming between devices. I don't remember if the Linksys firmware allows and or compatible WDS. I think it does, but you have little or no control over it, so therefore people tend to install third-party firmewares.

    Security on router B can be anything. But if you changed it from the beginning and you windowz cliewnts you will probably have to remove the profile stored by the client wireless and reconnect to the HA to rebuild the front profile it will not work properly. Windowz update the key in the profile stored, a pretty stupid mistake the share nanasoft.

    If your Access Point is connected to a wired router, so you don't have to change the settings of your router, you just need to enable wireless security and change the SSID of your Access Point, and it should be good to go... Also make sure that your Access Point is in the subnet of your router...

    If the IP address of the router is 192.168.1.1, then the Access Point on your address IP should be 192.168.1.245...
