Download updates through a firewall

I have a request from a company to see if it is possible to allow access to sites to update windows for servers can download necessary updates. My problem is the FW will not work for domains, it will only allow me to use the IP addresses and Ports. There is a predefined list that I could use instead of doing this by trial an error?

Thank you!

    Hello

    1. What is the security update article?
    2. are there any other security software installed on your computer?

If you have any third-party security software installed on your computer, I suggest you to disable the security software and then check if it helps.

Note : If you need to temporarily disable the security software, you should reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks

  • Update is under Firewall started

OK need a little help will try to do that's short and sweet. After years of 5 1/2 of hicups broken registrys etc. I decided to reinstall the XP PRO operating system, first tech has been a disaster, 2nd tech not better, at least 3 knew what he was doing. OK so he got about 90% properly installed with a few minor missing files and 2 discs that cannot be found. Updates began Friday 21 was first 138 XP security Ie 8, etc. the following updates in smaller batches to Sunday, no problem.

last 2 However on reboot at startup to pop up the firewall is disabled, went to control panel - open wirewall setting and of course, it has been disabled? After the last update and Firewall off I got not a single update through the custom configuration on the update page. Called Microsoft said that there have been other people with the same problem would pass me to level 2. level 2 was told that he would not help unless I paid for the warranty service. Ow to solve a problem with their update service? Guess they want the rest of use either pay one way or another, if we do not buy a new operating system. What a shame I'd wait 9 which is supposed to be compattable for XP.

Thanks for the quick response guys, same for both

Well I seem to have understood that it works, but somewhat a mystery. Downloaded from the page of microsoft windows update. He immeiately began to find updates, yippie! rebooted and everything seems to happen very well, no pop ups - n ° firewall disabled. Went to the start menu to check if updates have shown / work, yip and has continued to add updates and reboot without any problem.

Seems to have been blocked somehow and reinstall it seems have allowed.

Thanks again for your suggestons will save and if necessary will refer. Well I guess I'll order my new Dell now, lol still need to run XP PRO for 1 program that I can't read any other OS.

  • Cannot download updates for GPS Magellan map

I have the available map updates for my gps and Magellan had verified that there is no problem with the unit.  They say that my computer is blocking the download.  Whenever I get the message: download error. Plese try again.  I disabled the firewall and security system, but the problem persists.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.

Is downloading fault or any installation after the download?

What browser do you use?  Try to clean your temporary Internet files, Cookies, and browsing history.  If it's IE try temporarily disabling Protected Mode.  Take a look at IE / Tools / Internet Options / Security / Protected Mode.  Quit and restart IE.

See if you can get the download (manually) on another machine and and copy it to your machine.

You use a download manager that you can stop using to test with.

You can check in in "Safe Mode with network.

Vista Advanced Boot Options (or 7)
    http://Techblissonline.com/Vista-advanced-boot-options/

Which firewall do you use, whatever this is, with the exception of the Windows Firewall will need to be uninstalled to test correctly as catastrophic protection is not sufficient in most cases, as many parameters remain active.  Also make sure and .exe download update is given through the authorization.

Do you have a router or Modem, with any built-in firewall which can be disabled and tested?

Have you tried to add the site to download as a trusted Site in the browser (Security tab)?

  • Overall problems with download/update (network timeout)

So I experienced a recurring problem on my Windows 7, when I try to download anything, lets say an update to one of my drivers or an update for flash etc (by any browser mozilla/chrome/IE), the download starts very well and the download speed is very good, however the download will slow down and stop at a random time after which I have to pause and resume the Download so that it can continue. This issue is not specific to download a browser that I have experience the same problem when I download an update through a client software (client of game such as the origin or steam) or other clients such as itunes.

I don't know what is the cause, I already tried the following to resolve the problem:

    -Disable windows firewall

-tried 3 different software antivirus (avira, avast, windows security essentials)

-also tried with NO AntiVirus installed/running

-J' I redirect the ports on my router for any client/game/software

My network adapter would be the source of the problem? I have an asus motherboard and the driver installed for my network is: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller?

I checked my BIOS and there is nothing suspicious I can say...

Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Thank you

Hello, thanks for the post. I wanted to respond and update anyone who can run in this post and the other person who had this problem that I managed to find the problem and fix it.

The question is not related to material or new specific software that has been installed, and Yes, this problem affects almost all the files downloaded on the computer, regardless of the way his downloading.

The problem was a severely outdated driver, I discovered that my driver had not been updated since 2010...

To find this driver network card runs go to your device manager and under "Network adapters" look for your network/ethernet card, as most of my own people was the motherboard built in a list under "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller".

Right-click on it and go to properties, and then click the driver tab and check the Date of the driver.

This is where I downloaded my driver updated since:

  • HP Support Assistant will not download updates to date, or all the 'health check '.

Recently, I noticed that my HP Support Assistant continued to inform me of new updates available. In addition, every time I try and do a manual check for updates through the app, the 'health check' will fail. I have a HP Envy 14, edition Audio Beats. The model number is XG981UA #ABC.

In addition, I do not know if that changes anything but the most recent update, I downloaded was the most recent version of the ATI Catalyst Control Center (I need the drivers for Battlefield 3).

Anyone know of a possible solution for the Support Assistant software?

    Hello

    Try the following

Firstly, uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant by opening windows control panel, open programs and features, make the entry for HP Support Assistant right click and select uninstall.  Once this process is complete, restart the laptop.

Then download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant of the page on the link below - the download links are to the bottom of the page.

    After installation, restart the laptop.

  • Use already downloaded updates for the new Win7 installation? __

Dial-up access to the Internet (no high speed access)
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Microsoft Office 2010 Professional

    Hello:

It took many extra hours to keep Windows 7 64-bit and Microsoft Office 2010 Professional update through Microsoft Windows Update by using the switched to internet connection.  All updates are up-to-date and kept up-to-date with the dial-up connection.

Eventually, I'll install cool Windows 7 64-bit with Microsoft Office 2010 Professional on the same computer with the same configuration.

Problem: Using Microsoft Windows Update to install security and bug fixes after a new installation of Windows 7 64 bit, using a dial-up connection will take days.

Possible solution: copy all the files in the folder: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download to another hard disk, and then copy it to the same place after a new installation of Windows 7 64-bit.

Then run Windows Update, it will find these files and reinstall will take minutes, instead of hours or days.

    Question:
    (1) Will this work?
    (2) are there other directories on the computer that should be copied to another hard disk, then back to a new installation of 64-bit Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 Professional?  (Microsoft Office will install in the usual way, it's security and fixed bugs via Windows Update, I am referring to).

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

FYI: All other applications will be installed and updated, if necessary, the usual way.  My question is regarding security and bug fixes for 64-bit Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 Professional by using Microsoft Windows Update.

Cannot access Pathname you have the appropriate permissions. Cannot download updates gives error code 643 and error code 5. Always gives access denied. You do not have the appropriate permissions. I am the administrator. Change all the complete control. Any other suggestions? Possible virus?

    Hello

You are unable to download the updates?

Try the following steps to resolve the problem:

Method 1: Temporarily disable any security (including firewalls) software and check if the problem persists.

    Check out these links:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

If disabling the security software solves the problem, then contact the manufacturer of the specific security software to fix the problem.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable
your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are
connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2:
See the article mentioned below and run the Fixit diagnostic tool to fix the error 643.

You receive error code 80070643 0 x or 0 x 643, code error when you use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates:

One of the most common causes of problems are Anti Virus and Anti Spyware software currently running on the computer.

You can try to disable them, and then try the updates again. Keep the firewall however.
