Dual boot up on series Satellite L300-144

Hello

Got a new Satellite L300 144 series laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium.

Is it possible to install Windows XP and have dual boot options?
There are only forced to any material?
What additional drivers would be needed during the installation of Windows XP Home edition?
What would be the steps or if there is already one of solution posted can you point out to me. Thank you.

Diwang

As a first step, it is important to say that Windows XP Home Edition is supported for this model of laptop and on Toshiba support page http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads you can find drivers for Windows XP Home edition.

It is also important to say that the recovery image (DVD version) cannot be installed on the second partition and as a first step, you install original Toshiba Vista OS. Option to create a separate partition for the installation of Vista. At the beginning of the recovery procedure enter SETUP option and choose what size the first partition should be. If I remember well, it is in percent.

After installation of Vista, you must install Windows XP Home edition. Good course on the second partition. For the installation of Windows XP Home edition, please use Windows XP Home with SP2 integrated. Starting installation the HARD disk is not recognized correctly. For this you need Intel Storage manager. You can find it on the download page of Toshiba.
Installing WXP to start press F6 to load it. To do this you need USB FDD.

In the end, there is a small problem. After the installation of Windows XP Home edition that you will not be able to start Vista because WXP has not recognized Vista and does not boot manager. You must install the boot manager that offer you the choice between the two operating systems preinstalled.

If you install Vista as a second OS you will not have this problem because Vista recognize Xp and older starting in supply selection involving Microsoft Vista operating system.

So if you have more questions please write again.

Bye and good luck!

    Hello

As Akuma said on the underside of the laptop, you will find a HARD drive cover is fixed by 2 screws I think. If you remove these screws, you can see the HARD drive and remove/Exchange it.

Satellite L300 supports SATA 2.5 hard drives, and you can buy the HARD drive of every computer store where you want to.
I have good experiences with Seagate and Western Digital hard drives but of course, you can buy a disk from a different manufacture. ;)

  • Satellite L300-144 does not start

    Hello!

My laptop Toshiba Satellite L300-144 arrested beginning after about 2 weeks of no use with the following sympthoms:
    -When DC cable is unplugged, none of its lights are turned on and pressing the button "power on" (and others) does nothing;
-When DC cable is connected, 'DC IN' led is _blinking green_, led battery is _blinking orange_, others are turned off. by pressing the button "power on" (and others) does nothing.

Waited for over an hour with DC cable connected try to charge the battery of the laptop without change.

I have not found the meaning of this signal (DC IN green, battery flashes orange flashing) in my manual.

What is this means problem with the battery of the laptop?

    How can I fix?

    Hello

Flashing led DC-IN is not a good sign.
Of my knowledge led begin to blink when a hardware error has been found.
I'm not sure if this will help but try a short workaround:
-remove the battery, disconnect the adapter
-wait about an hour and then reconnect the two part.
-try to turn on the laptop

    Check if it helps.
But if this work around won t help you, then you would have no choice but to get in touch with ASP in your country.

Sorry, but that's all I can suggest.

  • DVD-ROM on the Satellite L300 - 144 (PSLB0E) does not

    Hi all

I have a problem with my DVD player does not.

When I bought the laptop 2 months ago it was working fine, after about 2 weeks the DVD player started playing some DVDs and others read do not. I decided that I was going to go down the slope from Vista to XP to support programming languages and DB management tools does not not on Vista. After formatting and XP is loading, the DVD Player did exactly the same thing. Now 2 months down the line is not read or write any DVD and not CD even if it's still the DVD playback.

I followed the steps on the forum to remove the disc from the device and then Manager deleting Upper and Lower filters, although I couldn't find any filters lower or higher in the folder specified by the users of the forum. I restarted the machine and the pilot has been reloaded without a bit of luck. When you open the DVD drive in my computer, it's a blank screen as it would be for a compilation in writing, even if the DVD contains information on, even original movies DVD does exactly the same thing.

I also tried to recover the installation of Vista from the recovery DVD and it is not reading the DVD.

I looked in the manual where it says that the machine should have a readers following Panasonic UJ-870 b/UJ-870F, Hitachi GSA-T40N/GSA-T40F, Pioneer DVR-KD08TBM/DVR-KD08TBF, Samsung TS-L632H/TS-L632P or Toshiba SD-L802B. However if I go to my computer / device manager / Nero Info tool it shows all the DVD drive as drive SD-L622A. The driver info is the next Microsoft 5.1.2535.0 (2001/07/01) with firmware T070 version.

With the Toshiba Software accompanies the drive also fails.

Is there an updated driver that will help or updates the firmware or other solutions available to me?

Most of the software and applications that are preinstalled on your laptop controls a Notepad function.

XP and Seven is installed in dual-boot on my laptop and I use EasyBCD to choose which system I want to start.

To start XP, I need to enable "Compatibility" (Controller SATA in BIOS mode) and seven is "AHCI" must be activated.

    Thank you in advance.

Yes you can do it but I'm afraid, you must reinstall Windows XP Home edition m.
Why? Because before beginning to install Windows XP Home edition, you must change it to AHCI mode, launch the installation of Windows XP Home edition and before you start you need to load the SATA driver (via F6 I think).

Long time ago, we have discussed a lot about this on this forum then use the advanced search anc check options other postings on this subject.

It is not necessary to write too much about. What you need to do is to create the second partition. The first you can let Vista and on the second install WXP SP2. Avoid all the problems.

Follow is important: when you install Windows XP Home edition you will not be able to restart Vista. Because of this, you must install the boot manager which offers you only begin to start favorite operating system choice.

I have aan L300 series Satellite. On booting, the touchpad works fine until I get the workstation, after which the tap function ceases to work. The touchpad works to distribute me to move the mouse around the screen and buttons work, but the touchpad to stop tapping function run once the machine started upward (it seems to work for about the first 30 seconds).

This happened recently, but I can't put my finger exactly when.

    Hello

You should check the touchpad settings like Jurgo wrote. You can find it in Control Panel > mouse. Make sure that typing is enabled, otherwise look will not work correctly.

  • Satellite Pro A200: How to create Dual boot; Vista & XP using the recovery CD

I just bought a laptop Satellite Pro A200, which was supplied with the product for Vista and XP Recovery discs.
The license specifically Vista also XP licenses.
Can I set up a dual boot so that I can boot to Vista or XP? If so, how?

I would also like a third boot, Red Hat Linux 9.
    Any comments?

Hmmm. Usually it s possible to use two or more operating systems on the computer, but as far as I know the Toshiba Vista recovery CD formats whole disk when installing Vista and this will lead to the loss of the OS installed.
I m not 100% sure on the recovery of the newest XP CD called RECON doesn t CD include an expert mode which allows to choose between the different partitions.

So I guess that each use the recovery CD will format the HARD drive and erase the installed data. But of course, you can try to install the two BONES and to check if the restore XP CD allows to choose the second part of the installation of the OS.

If it does not, it seems that you will need to an original XP from Microsoft CD or the original CD of Vista to use the two BONES.

  • Satellite U940 PSU6VA - Dual boot with Ubuntu based distributions

    _ * My specifications: * _
    * Model: * Toshiba Ultrabook (Satellite PSU6VA - 00S 002 U940)
    * Operating system: * Windows 8.1 x 64 (upgrade of Windows 8 x 64)

I would like to set up my computer to dual boot with Windows 8.1 (x 64) and Zorin OS 9.1 (64-bit).

ZORIN OS is a derivative of Ubuntu which maintains a binary compatibility with Ubuntu i.e. Ubuntu and Zorin use the same drivers and can run the same applications. John Damascene is more or less just Ubuntu with a different desktop environment and some additional preinstalled applications.

So far, I know that I need to disable the QuickStart Windows 8.1. What I have to do something else (for example disable Secure Boot, CSM, etc.)?

In addition, my Ultrabook comes with 2 hard drives: 500 GB HARD drive and a 30 GB SSD. Windows uses the HARD disk for storage and for implementing SSD caching, through technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Is it possible to set up John of Damascus to do so (preferably without disabling caching on Windows)?

NOTE: I prefer to do things using graphical interfaces, rather than the CLI. I don't mind given CLI instructions; also just showed me the GUI equivalents if possible. I use the CLI if there is no alternative.

    Hello

See my responses / comments among your questions (I took part of your message and inserted here):

Answer: If you want to dual-boot, do NOT select WSC as preventing Windows to start.
You shouldn't have to disable startup secure either, but I can't promise that. I think that Ubuntu 14 has support for secure boot.

Answer: No, I don't think that there is a way to use the SSD in Zorin without making it unusable for Windows.

  • Failure of dual booting Ubuntu with Windows 8 on the Satellite P845t

I tried in vain to dual boot Ubuntu 13.10 to a new Satellite from Toshiba with Windows 8.1. The laptop has UEFI. I used the two live DVD and live USB, and I tried with SecureBoot both active and disabled.

Whenever I have the same failure. J
UST before the next GRUB, the error message screen appears flashes briefly on the screen "error: variable 'root' is not defined". The GRUB screen appears. I tried Trying-out Installation and Installation and whenever once I have selected one of these options, then, the screen turns off and remains empty. When you use a DVD, the DVD still Purring for several seconds, before going to death.

Out of curiosity I tried to install OpenSUSE 12.3 in the same way (with SecureBoot both enabled and disabled in turn, etc.) and stalls from installation to a similar point every time, which leads me to think that it is something to do with how UEFI is installed on the laptop.

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite P845T about 3 months with the HARD drive replaced with a SSD.
It came with pre-installed Windows 8, and I've upgraded to 8.1 Windows last week, shortly before trying to install Ubuntu.

Curiously, the Windows desktop 8.1 has a watermark in the bottom right that says: "SecureBoot is not configured correctly", but that may not be not relevant for this query, such as Google search, that suggests that many people have this watermark even if SecureBoot is properly configured. And activating/deactivating the SecureBoot makes no difference for the message.

Any help would be welcome, as I'd like to get this double-started with Ubuntu.

    Thank you!

  • Satellite C850 - 19(d) - I want to do a dual boot with Linux and Win 8

    Last week I had a Satellite C85O - PSCBWE-03200WGR 19(d)

Yesterday, I try to make a dual boot with Ubuntu.

I do not have a start to boot from USB, or iso CD (same choices as for the Toshiba application), and I did one on the bios:
    -Disable secure boot
    -Change UEFI CSM support
    -Save

On reboot, I get not Toshiba logo, but a black screen with:

«This product is covered by one or more of the following patents:...» (list of patents...)

    Realtek...

PXE - E61: Media test faliure check cable
PXE - MOF: Exit PXE ROM
"No boot device - insert boot and press a key.

I can't open the Bios again at F2.

    Which I recover the system?

    Hello

The unit has been pre-installed with Win 8 64 bit right?

Change BIOS setting of UEFI to CSM and disabling secure boot prevent Notepad to start 8 to win!

That's why the device cannot find the boot device and passes to the last option: LAN.
But given that the laptop can not find bootable system via LAN, the error PXE - E61: Media test faliure check cable appears.

If you want to use a dual boot, you will need to boot into Win 8
Win 8 you must create a partition for installing Linux. This can be down in Win 8 disk management. It must reduce a last partition and have to create new free space available.

Now to start installing Linux you need support... you can burn the iso on DVD or a USB bootable Linux. There are a lot of details on the internet how to create these media.
Once you have created the bootable USB key, restart your PC with USB connected.
Press F12 for the boot menu. Now you should see the key USB (if it is bootable!) choose USB and you should be able to install Linux (Ubuntu is great!)

Here's a nice page that would provide the statement all step by step!
