DualBOOT WinXP and Win98

I tried to do for about 2 weeks, market and trying to get Windows 98SE & Windows XP dualboot correctly. I had success but am still not satisfied. Here's what I tried.

1st attempt:
-Essentially have a base with 2 primary partitions drive - a (Win98) one FAT32 NTFS (Windows XP). First, I installed Windows 98 on C: (FAT32), then installed Windows XP later on D: (WinXP). It was all great job for awhile and after some time I suddenly wasn't able to boot in Windows 98. Something had changed during the installation of programs over several days, so I restarted from scratch once again.

2nd attempt:
-Basic disk I had on a set of primary partition of 500 MB to active for just Boot (C: FAT32), about 1/3 of a primary partition for Windows 98 (E: FAT32) and about 2/3 of a primary partition for Windows XP (NTFS D :). Of course, I installed on the disks appropriate using C to boot to XP system files and 98. Installed XP first on D: and 2nd Win98 on E: - then I could only start XP again and Windows 98 was not able boot upward as he wanted to BE D: drive because Win98 is unable to see NTFS partition and think that there was nothing there so my boot.ini file were conflicts with that.

3rd ATTEMPT (successful):
After frustration, pulling on my hair and such things, I said screw it. I did an active primary partition (2/3 c: FAT32) and a 2nd primary partition (1/3 d: FAT32). So I installed Windows XP on C: first and Win98 on D: - it's all good and dandy except... I want my XP in NTFS security!

AN IDEA: So right now, I say to myself, screw the partitions, equip a 2nd hard drive (primary slave / primary master). Master on XP NTFS, slave on 98 FAT32 - both primary partitions and can be active (or not?). But now I wonder if even that will work as loads off C: the boot for WinXP/98, and Windows 98 is an atheist, when it comes to NTFS partitions - they simply do not exist.

ANOTHER IDEA: Find a decent boot loader. I've heard a lot of GRUB, but I wonder if this is the way to go because it seems that GRUB is used mainly for Linux/Unix dualboots.

Here's WHAT I WANT: I want a WinXP NTFS (for security reasons) and a Win98 FAT32 work. Usually my Windows XP is about 2/3 of the space system and Windows 98 is of about 1/3 the space system.

For all partitions to dualboot I use a 60 GB so you do the math. I have a spare 40 GB I thought put in Windows 98 separate conflict still further, but for some reason any after my failures, that it doesn't seem like I'm going to avoid conflicts...

WHY THE TROUBLE? : you can ask - I just want to be able to play old games on Windows 98 with DX8.1 and have a working system of XP for all newer games (which are still old...) - in other words to benostalgic.

Other questions on the installation made me know.

PS Wait I will post everything trying to launch BITLOCKER partition Win7 with Bootcamp on my Macbook Pro. This one will be even more interesting...

Get Ranish Partition Manager and install sound code MBR bootmanager.

Then, at the prompt "boot HD...", press 1 or 2 to select the boot partition.

No need to make entries special boot.ini, as boot partitions quite separately from this way.

Also works for Linux, install LILO/Grub in the boot sector of partition, NOT the MBR, and once again you just press the partition number to select.

The Mac which are not readable on a Windows System. Disks are a terrible way to keep data because they are deteriorating, damaged, and they can also become physically deformed so they will work only in the original floppy drive. If the disks are stored next to a monitor, the magnetic field of the wiped monitor them. It is not a question of Win9x-XP but more of a physical problem with floppy disks. A way to see if the discs are viable is with a USB floppy drive or the computer floppy drive another if you can find one. If they are illegible, even in this case, you can try the floppy data recovery programs. And here's one:

"Press on enter when ready '- but no reaction... SOLUTION!

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

According to the Toshiba page suggested when installing Windows using to partition or format the HARD drive, the RAID driver is deleted in the process. This causes the shot the next time that the machine start-up.
To avoid this, perform a partitioning and formatting before you run the manual installation of Windows.
This behavior is not displayed during the installation of Windows XP with SP2 integrated

Well, perhaps, you need a CD OS Win SP2 integrated?

But why you do not use the recovery CD Toshiba delivered?
On this CD, all drivers are preinstalled and you only need to install the OS from the recovery CD. All should work properly.

PS: Just for the record: in the BIOS, you should find an option to disable (or change) the RAID.

  • Equium L350 - 10L: how to make dualboot - Vista and XP

    I need help.

How could I install an operating system of Windows XP and all keeping my Windows Vista.
It's like having two operating systems in one.

My laptop model is Toshiba Equium L350 - 10L.

    Thank you.

    Best regards

    Carol

    Hello Carol

Just in a few words: If your laptop is preinstalled with Vista original recovery image please make sure that the HARD drive has two partitions (C and D also check disk management). Windows XP must be installed on the second partition. For the installation of Windows XP Home edition, you need Storage Manager. Without this Storage Manager disk HARD won't be visible for the installation of Windows XP Home edition CD.

On this forum, you will find number of threads with the exact description how do.

At the end you must start Manager. Using this boot manager, you will be able to choose which operating system you want to use.

If you have any other questions please post again.

Is it possible to avoid erasing the data on the HARD C: drive when you use the recovery of re CD - install Win XP?
My M10 does not start Win xp to all options, but I need data on C bad.

    [Edited by: admin December 27 05 07:05]

    Hello

The media recovery, you can only use for the installation of the OS and this way all data will be deleted because before the OS installation starts the HARD drive will be formatted. If you need certain data from the C partition, you can connect this HDD on another unit as external one.

But if your data is already deleted from the trash I n t see is possible to do it again.

  • Brightness, function keys, WinXP and Satellite Pro A200

    Hello

I recently bought a Satellite Pro A200 (serial PSAE7E) with WIndows Vista and try to install Windows XP next.
After hours of hunting for drivers (with moderate success) and try to install a XP in a privileged way (3rd partition main, 2nd is for Vista), I stopped.

I am not able to get to work a function keys (keys, light, monitor, CPU frequency and wireless) XP. Under Vista, these keys only works when Toshiba Flash Cards application is running - when I turn this app, these keys are also unavailable (why?).

I browsed a forum and found a few threads also wrote about this topics, update BIOS to version XP
But I do not found answers to my questions:

(* 1) * is a software (like FlashCards, but for XP) _Activer under XP system function keys? configuration: (Vista + XP + BIOS for Vista)

(* 2) * if I install a BIOS XP version, what happens to my Vista system installed on my laptop? It stops stating, or function keys stop responding or even a different Components would be inaccessible?
Someone has tested the configuration like this (Vista + XP + BIOS for XP)

(* 3) * it is possible to Flash the BIOS to the version of Vista the XP version and still the version of Vista? (maybye I should Flash the BIOS before you start the system?)

Currently I use the BIOS version 1.70 of Vista, Vista Toshiba Recovery DVD and XP SP2.

    Hi mate,

    long discussion, short answer:

    1. no it not there no software (no software officially released and taken in charge) that is available for XP on a Sat A200.

    2. your system will operate normally, only the behavior of the function keys on bios level will change. If you Flash the bios with the XP version that the function keys should be available under XP without any software.

3 Yes, it s definitely possible to reflash the BIOS since many clients have machines with XP and want to use Vista (I never understand but hey..)

I hope that every question has been answered.

There is a quiet difference under Win2k & XP, you are unable to connect these two binary.

Hi folks, I'm David from South America and I have this great Tablet since last year, that's great, but I would like to install android and Android, so that I can dualboot windows 8.

I tried to install the latest 'android - 4.2.2_r1 - ia2"use"Generic UEFI Installer", I followed the steps as shown in the quick start page, but I found problems between the path, the first was a message while trying to start mode EUFI saying that the:

DiskName % has been blocked by the current security policy

then I read somewhere that the implementation of a supervisor password would allow me to change the settings of the UEFI, within those parameters has been an option for select trust uefi files, browsing the UEFI USB created in the quickstar page and select all the files in a folder called efi EFI, I could then start the first screen of the installer , and then you try the manual installation option gives me an error and get stuck there...

I know that some people were succesfull install Android from the page open source intel so please could you share the steps to follow to install Android and have dualboot with the large W700

Please share your comments, because for sure, there are a lot of people willing to try the DualBoot - Android and windows 8

Disable your security strategy uefi on yout start menu, assign an administrator password and disable the security check. DualBOOT android AI on w700 has been done successfully.

  • How to share a printer Canon MP 970 with a WinXP Dell laptop and a Dell of Win7 desk top?

I recently implemented a Dell PC in Win7 professional desk top which is ethernet connected to Verizon FIOS router home. This configuration has replaced a desktop Dell 7 years under Win XP computer. In an adjacent room, I have a Canon MP970 USB printer connected to an old Dell Laptop for six years under Win XP and connected wireless to the router home. I was unable to configure the latest desktop computer Win7 to share Canon printer. Older Dell/WinXP (replaced) desktop has been configured to share the printer Canon with Dell laptop, WinXP and did successfully...

In the laptop, I selected control panel > printers and faxes > sharing > drivers additional > environment, but can find no list for Win7. My thought is that the laptop must have the appropriate driver that allows it to recognize the request of Win7 Office to share the Canon MP970 printer. Thank you fo all help and advice from the community can offer.

    GrampyH

    Hi GrampyH,

If you have a printer connected to your computer, you can share it with anyone on the same network. No matter what type of printer you have, as it is installed on your computer and is directly connected with a USB cable or other type of printer cable. The people from that your choice to share the printer will be able to use it to print, as long as they first locate your computer on the network.

Printers that are directly connected to a network and not connected to a computer are available to anyone on the same network. These printers must have a network port or wireless connection that allows them to connect directly to the network.

You can read these articles and check if that helps.

  • Convert the remote physical computer Win98

    = & gt; SEE maybe INSTEAD: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1144827

TOO MANY DEAD ENDS. I am very frustrated. Please help me find a new path, or convert a dead-end in a path of success!

I need to move from a legacy Win98 to a virtual machine, bringing with it boot disk software that may not be installed or activated again.

    = #1 END =.

I put the disc in a remote computer as boot drive. I can't convert Win98 remote physical computer to a virtual machine. )

From VMware Workstation 6.5, I File/Import, connect to the remote computer successfully (name = michelle, username = guest, password = *). Then, I like the VMware Converter Agent needs to be installed temporarily on your remote computer. I then get a "failed to connect" error. In the vmware log file, I see the converter tries to a share named "\michelle\ADMIN$" there is no such action, and I don't know how you would set this to the top on the Win98 machine. This attempt will never succeed? In a help file, I read "the wizard of Conversion of VMware in Desktop allows you to import the following types of virtual and physical machines:"and Win98 is NOT in the list. "

    = #2 END =.

Otherwise, I could build a v2I backup (.sv2i) and try to convert that. However, I vaguely remember trying to do this a few years ago, and it does not Win98. It may concern the converter does not support Win98

    = DEAD END #3 =.

Otherwise, maybe I need to go back to a 'METHOD ZERO' tablecloth topic (http://communities.vmware.com/message/1140447#1140447) earlier suggested continuum "Port loses Win98 bootdisk to the virtual machine (guest)? ((I'm waiting on backup .qic below before taking the disc off another motherboard and put it in the host machine.))

However, his method includes the use of vmware - vdiskmanager.exe. I do not have this program, and it appears to come only with the GSX server. All I have is VMware Workstation 6.5.X.

    = #4 END =.

Otherwise... I'm currently a .qic BackupMyPC backup of the original diskette of Win98, now begin on another card mother. I hope that later have a Win98 VM with BackupMyPC and restore my backup of .qic original Win98 disk in the virtual machine. HOWEVER, I can't create the virtual Win98 machine. Other current running VMs can get to my CD, but this one won't boot off of it. I got the new VM at startup of a Win95 boot in DOS disk, and this virtual machine will now Boot C: in DOS mode. However, it does not recognize my CD-ROM as d:, whatever the configuration (image autodetect, d: or iso). So, I'm stuck again!

    = #5 END =.

I noticed that Ghost 14 has its own ability to export to a VMware virtual image. However, Ghost 14 does not work under Win98.

    = DANGEROUS END #6 =.

If I try to upgrade the operating system of the real legacy disk Win98, I'll probably break some features of other old tools I need, which are the reason why I can't start over again. Physically I could clone the drive, but it's probably another series of dead ends. The worst would be to get it all cloned and running to find the legacy of garbage tools...

    =================

    Thank you very much

    Helmut

PS Where can I find vdiskmanager continuum 'method of zero?

PS how to add this community to 'my communities '?

You did say "or a second VM.  Of course, I don't know why a 'second' VM.  All I think that I need is a single machine virtual to run Acronis restore.  Why do I need TWO of them, or why I need this product LiveCD?

Instead of overwrite your Windows XP guest, you can simply attach a new virtual disk... and replace this one... then remove the new virtual disk from VM WinXP and attach the same disk to your guest of win98 and start from there.

    It will be useful,
