E3000 substitute _only_ DNS of ISP

Hello

I would replace the DNS servers provided by DHCP via my ISP. Other settings, I'd like to preserve (as my assigned IP). Anyone know how I can achieve this with E3000?

Thank you.

Mark

Oh, I got it. (facepalm). In base configuration, under the DHCP server settings, I just need to specify static DNS so that all customers on my network use _my_ DNS instead of my ISP.

I have an e3000 who can't get an address from the ISP.  I can get an address on the computer and an old router directly connecting the cable to the computer or the router.  I peut also chain the e3000 to the old router, and I can get an address on the e3000 from the old router.  I have hard reset the e3000, modified Linksys and TomatoUSB and then to Linksys, firmware and I still can't get it to work.  It worked fine on Saturday until a bolt of lightning hit close to home.  Since then, I can't the e3000 to connect to the ISP.  Any ideas?

Okay, either get the E3000 fixed/replaced.

Or put a 100 Mbps switch between the E3000 and have it. You can even use your old router to do this: open the web interface of your old router. Disable the DHCP server on the router of old. Then HAVE it wire and the E3000 your old router LAN ports. This way you use only the switch in your old router and the E3000 will get an IP address from your ISP (i.e. the DHCP server on the old router is disabled and won't be any more quickly to provide an IP address...)

Of course, when you or your ISP upgrades to the line to 200 Mbps or faster, you need to replace the E3000. But for now, it may be a good option if you can't do a warranty Exchange.

Yes. It is better to have just a modem ordinary to avoid double NAT issues as well as port easier opening if it is necessary to do so.

  • DHCP DNS

I have WRT54G2 and LAN and Wireless clients. LAN clients get IP routers as DNS server via the routers DHCP server. Wireless clients obtain DNS server of the ISP via the DHCP server even! How is that possible? I don't want any clients to send requests directly to the server DNS of ISP.

    Any suggestions?

    1. the reason for NAT is that your ISP only gives you a single public IP address, but you want to connect multiple computers to the same internet connection. That's why you're generally a NAT router. If your ISP to assign you any number of public IP addresses you want to that you wouldn't need a router because of this. But as far as I know always more ISP only gives you a public IP address by internet connection. This requires a NAT router. But she has actually nothing to do with the way in which a computer in the local network behind the NAT router gets its DNS information.

    2. There is little or no advantage in using a proxy DNS from the router over the use of the server DNS ISP directly, except maybe a slight to put entries speed advantage cached in proxy and a single IP for DNS servers instead of an IP address of the DNS server address that may change at some point Although it rarely happens. The advantage of the cache on the router is limited, too, as these routers are usually very limited and memory would be more important for the translation NAT tables then the DNS caches that could be retrieved from the ISP DNS server as well.

    3. I can't tell how Linksys not their version numbering. I find that on occasion, they change the version number after the initial release. I guess that often the initial version is derived from some other firmware router and then later they change the numbering. Unless there is a real problem there is no need to update the firmware. Given the number of different models, versions of hardware and firmware in different languages for different countries or different regulatory areas, it is not surprising that are some problems on the Web site. Other companies also have this kind of issues. But I have to admit these days, that Linksys has a few more problems, particularly outside the United States

  • Lane Express MRA DNS Cluster

    Hello

I am the expressway MRA Cluster design and I'm a little confused on the Expressway to Natting private dashboard Public.

Veuileez it correct me if I'm wrong.

Publish Srv DNS to ISP records:

    _collab - edge.example.com

to point to "A" records the two expressway Edge host

    Question?

I don't have a single public IP address, it is fine if the two hosts expressway-edges ' A' records are pointing to the same public IP address.

Name of the Expressway-Edge Cluster must be the same in the same domain as the Expressway-Edge servers

    Question?

Where do I create the Cluster FQDN internal or external, and that it should resolve to?

    Hello

If you have a public IP, single and multiple inside hosts to reach outside, you can use static NAT differentiating ports of destination outside

    for example.

IP nat inside source static tcp 10.10.10.1 80 80.123.54.1 80

    IP nat inside source static tcp 10.10.10. 2 80 80.123.54.1 8080

Although you can form a cluster, each E highway has its own ip address

Unfortunately, because a MRA session involves different TCP and UDP ports, this can not be done.

In this case, the use of a specific load balancer might be a solution, but the Cisco could not support it.

So the way forward is to set up a public ip address for each node E

  • DNS traffic blocked after PAT - PIX 515

I have PIX 515 with 3 named NIC (internal, external, dmz)

I have 2 servers (Exchange and Windows 2000 with SMTP) in the demilitarized zone.

I currently have a static command pointing to doamin for exchange Server IP address in the DMZ.

I wanted to PAT on the IP address of the e-mail domain so that the configuration will look like as follows.

The IP field will be used for the global IP

all pop3 for global ip traffic will go to Exchange

all www for the global IP traffic will go to Exchange

all smtp for global ip traffic will go to the Windows 2000-based SMTP relay (SMTP relay is configured to send the e-mail received in exchange Server)

I hosted DNS udp and tcp traffic to the servers.

before pat, the server can use DNS to resolve IP domain e-mail and send mail to the Internet.

As soon as I PAT the Internet e-mail delivery stops.

When I did an NSLOOKUP command returns an error indicating that the DNS server cannot be resloved.

The servere DNS used by these 2 servers are servers DNS of ISP.

Is there any concern when you PAT.

    Thank you

    Hello

    I found the problem:

for now, your dmz servers can go to the internet with pop3, smtp, and www. Only for these protocols is a (static) translation to provide in the config file.

You will need to will provide you a translation for other protocols (for example, dns) also. This can be accomplished with one of the following two things:

create a nat - pair overall for the DMZ for outdoor

    NAT (dmz) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0

Global (outside) 1 200.100.100.168 (already exists)

create a static translation for each of the other protocols (next to pop3, smtp, www), you want to pass from the dmz to the internet (you already did that for www, pop3 and smtp).

    Kind regards

  • 21 Pro slate - Gets the IP address but no Internet connectivity

    Hi all

I have a slate of 21 Pro with no internet connectivity at home.  The device gets an IP via DHCP on cable networks or wireless, but when you try to browse or access resources on the internet, it simply expires. I tried also to assigning a manual IP address without success. If I take the tablet in a café local wi - fi, it connects fine, but I can't make it work at home. My ISP is Baja broadband, a 50MB / 5MB cable connection LAN details below:

    * Arris T822G cable modem - no. ISP-condition, ability of routing and firewall, just a regular old modem

    * Cisco/Linksys E3000 router wifi - internal network gets NAT'ed here. not about filtering, fancy

    * Switch 24 port managed gigabit Netgear

I tried bypassing the internal network and connect the slate 21 Pro directly to the modem Ethernet cable through cable. Same problem - it gets an IP (a public IP address in this case), but does not connect to all websites. HP sent me a replacement unit that shows exactly the same problem. Both units work very well at coffee wi-fi.

(OS is Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. I could take the unit to the WiFi Café and see if there are updates available OTA if anyone thinks that might help).

I am an engineer network with HER 25 years of experience. My home network is a mature network without problems. Connected to this network and works perfectly are: 2 iPhones, a Roku box, a smart LG TV, 2 Macs, Windows PCs 4. already had 2 HP Touch tablets, which were also very good. Home visits can connect their phones and tablets to our wi - fi without any problem. It's * just * slate 21 Pro, which is bad.

    I'm puzzled. Any ideas?

    Thank you
    Steve

UPDATE: it's resolved. I found that I was able to gain access to Web sites by IP address, but no host name. There was something wonky with the DNS server provided by the ISP. Once I substituted another DNS server in the IP configuration, it works.

    Weird!

  • 2.7.14 firmware update problems

When I try to update my firmware 2.7.14 I get updated Firmware "error result" encountered an error that put up-to-date abandoned.  Everything works well except my remote access. Any idea?

    Hi all

You can try to assign a static ip address on the network Media Hub and setting another DNS (dns no - ISP) top and check if the update would not intervene. Basically, perhaps the ISP DNS server might not be to redirect the request to the firmware correctly.

    example of static IP settings
    192.168.1.5
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.1.1

    DNS settings
    4.2.2.3
    4.2.2.2

Here is a link on how to check the IP address of the network Media Hub, there is a button, you can click here to change the IP address on the network Media Hub. I found this link when I was checking for compatibility on the network Media Hub.

"View attributed to NMH series IP address."

    I hope this helps.

I already have all levels of aggression the strongest value, and we trained users on the undesirable declaration that comes through using the Outlook addon tool.

Now, I'm looking for using the Services of black list feature. I added zen.spamhaus.org and set it to treat all emails coming from sources on the Services of black list as probable Spam. Are there other services from black list recommended that I should add?

What else can I do to reduce the amount of spam that passes through?

You must check that you effectively solve the RBL, you choose to use.  In my case the Sonicwall is configured to use the DNS default LAN interface, which is my company DNS server; who uses the DNS servers of my ISP as ther forwarders primary.  Many use Google Public DNS.  In both cases, there are reliability problems to access the various RBL.  It is not a server of DNS Public alpha offering efficient access to all RBL, you could use.

    https://social.technet.Microsoft.com/forums/ProjectServer/en-us/1252eb3d-949c-4cc3-a1d7-dc08f0bdd372/RBL-not-working-on-Exchange-2013-Edge-Transport?Forum=exchangesvrsecuremessaging

What I've found, is that many ISP/Public DNS Server do not follow the strategies of RBL provider connection limit.  This translates performance very slow to the RBL through the DNS servers of the ISP/Public; leading to RBL expirations on the Sonicwall and other services the customer RBL (in my case as well on the SonicWall) and Exchange Edge Transport.

For me, the solution was to query the RBL zen.spamhaus.org directly, rather than through my server DNS Public/ISP, using Microsoft DNS "Conditional forwarding" on my company DNS server.  I also use separate conditional forwarder at the other RBL, but use the Google Public DNS as the redirection of DNS server.  Just test one that provides the fastest response.

  • Public IP address used internally on RV220W

    Hello

I've finally set up our RV220W to serve our network of offices, using the following environment:

WAN is set for a public IP (static configuration), while internal network consists of two VLANS.

VLAN 1 is connected to the cable network and a SSID wireless, where DHCP is served by our server Windows SBS (192.168.15.x), and this VLAN is used only for our own office. VLAN 2 is connected to a second SSID wireless, where DHCP is served by the RV220W himself (192.168.17.x) and this VLAN is used for guests and visitors to our office.

On a regular basis, we need to use a mobile device to access a test page of a development server on VLAN 1, and the router is configured to redirect the connections on a specific port on the public IP address to our development server.

For VLAN 1, I solved this by substituting the DNS for the host name of this test page to use the local IP address of the development server.

However, for VLAN 2, there is no way to access this test page.

Is there a way I can configure the router to redirect connections, either replace the internal DNS for the test on the development server page is also accessible from 2 VLAN (network comments/visitor)?

    Thanks for any help.

  • RV220W - try to configure an IPv6 connection

    Hello

My ISP provides IPv6 connectivity in the form of dual IPv4/IPv6 stack with DHCPv6 prefix delegation. A router using Cisco IOS that I managed to make such a link using as a model the Cisco IOS and my ISP configuration file posted as an example in the following link:

    http://IPv6.otenet.gr/current-config.txt

The main point about this configuration is a PPPoE connection with:

interface Dialer46 ipv6 address autoconfig default ipv6 enable ipv6 dhcp client pd LAN_DHCP
    interface Vlan1 description local LAN ipv6 address LAN_DHCP ::/64 eui-64 ipv6 enable ipv6 nd other-config-flag ipv6 dhcp server LAN_DHCP

Now, I'm trying to set up a RV220W router on the same network, but I can't do an IPv6 connection. Maybe I don't am not setting up properly to make it work the same way for the Cisco IOS router. My settings are:

    -> Network-> IPv6

    IP - IPv4 and IPv6 Dual-Stack mode

    WAN - IPv6 DHCPv6 + stateless address autoconfiguration

LAN IPv6 - IPv6 address: fec0::1, IPv6 prefix length: 64, status DHCP: enable the Server Mode DHCP, DHCPv6: stateless, DNS servers: use DNS of ISP.

Announcement of router: status: activate, advertise Mode: unsolicited multicast

When I check the summary page, I see that even if a have a good working IPv4, IPv6 connection are the following:

    WAN (Internet) of information (IPv6)

    Connect time: 0 days 00:07:10

    Connection type: dynamic IP (DHCP)

    Connection status: connected

    IP address: fe80::5a8d:9ff:fee2:f9d3 / 64

    Gateway: fe80::200: ff: fe00:0

    DNS servers:

    which is obviously false.

Could someone please help me configure this router according to the Cisco IOS configuration file I've linked on the top in order to have an IPv6 connection work?

    Panos Hi,

Thank you for posting. You can find a phone number for Cisco Small Business Support at the following page:

    http://www.Cisco.com/go/SBSC

You will need a Cisco user ID (your username) and the serial number of your router to initiate prosecutions.

This indicates a problem with the router or your DNS of ISP service.

If everything is by default your PC will have the DNS server as your router. In fact, it's just a relay passing PC's DNS queries to the DNS server, it gets its turn by your ISP.

You could try giving your network server DNS Service DNS Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 settings interface. This would mean that you do not use the function of relay routers DNS or your preferred DNS server of the ISP. You can leave the IP DHCP address.

If it helps then check the settings of the router and see what are the DNS servers of the ISP. These values are defined, then as your static settings, it then would prove if the problem was with the DNS of ISP or the relay in the router which is more likely.
