  After a recent power outage, my system has restarted with a weird and very common Windows problems range. I started with Win XP media center edition of first (circa 2004 or almost) and have migrated twice more of 3 hard disks and 2 computers. All this time (5 years of daily use), I have NEVER known so many malfunctions for as many Windows basic and vital functions at the same time. I tried a lot of 3rd party "windows fix - it / registry repair" apps, all have no effect. Everything I can speculate is there was some serious damage to the registry and have no idea how/why so many Services refuse to start. In MMC, more than half of the services actually start and run, the rest all give the error message "the service or dependencies is not start (error 1068).» In addition, very oddly, no. APPS or windows appear in the toolbar AT ALL, but the Quick Launch toolbar works very well, just like the tray button and start tasks (?! )!). If I reduce a window, it "disappears" (Nothing on the task bar), but I can restore it using the alt - tab keyboard shortcut to switch apps, so all applications/windows appear on the list of the Task Manager. A few apps is paralyzed bad, as the player windows media, itunes, etc. (I guess because the service windows audio can not not start), some won't start at all, but 90% of them work fine, except to try to copy or back up all files. I can create new files, however. I'm desperate to find a solution to repair XP3 Win WITHOUT losing my installed applications and files, before I try and switch to WIndows 7. Any help/suggestions/links/advice would be much appreciated. I'm an experienced user, but I've never met so many malfunctions based on the OS at a time. I, however, very painfully learned (years before that my system so complex) it's been almost a re-installation of Windows guarantees to lose my installed apps and files, the directory tree architecture associations.

I do not mean to hurt your feelings; just trying to help you get targeted answers you need for the future.

  The blackout has corrupted your Windows installation. Back up your data now. Since you have problems so much, it would be probably best is to remove the hard drive, put it in a USB drive enclosure and attach it to another computer to copy the data OR start the target with Linux Livecd such as Knoppix system and copy the data to an external hard drive. IOW, do not use the damaged windows to try to get your data.

  You can try a repair that will leave your programs and facility data intact, but with this widespread bribery, it is unlikely to work. However, it takes only a few minutes and is so worth a try. If the repair facility does not work there is nothing to do, but a clean install. And Yes, it will mean that over again.

  Consider buying a UPS to help prevent future damage by power outages. For a single computer, you should look for one in the area of $60 to 80. A more expensive UPS is not necessary. Another good disaster recovery strategy is to buy an external hard drive and Acronis True Image. You can image your system (and can make an incremental backup image so that your image is still current). You can apply your image and be back running that you were in relatively few minutes after a hard drive or Windows to fail.

• Start repair cannot find a problem, but are still unable to start Windows Vista successfully.

  So here's the skinny.  I have a PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit.  I came home today and I tried to start it up, it got to the point where the bar is be thrown backwards and then what seems to have been that a BSOD flew for a fraction of a second the power cut and the system restarted.  Restart Start Up Repair did not work (you cannot determine the problem).  Could not start safe mode, and when I went to all our restore points had mysteriously disappeared the system recovery.  I checked the material widely to find errors, and it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem.  Since at this stage would not worth the hassle to track down a Vista Home Premium disc to make a repair (which I'm not sure would work based on reading other forums) a Windows 7 upgrade would solve the problem?  If that won't accomplish anything, I at least would be able to rifle through the old partition and get my stuff is back with a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new partition?  What can I do, or I am the GROUND.  There are a lot of things on this computer and I would be sad to lose.  Unfortunately, we are a company household risky here and nobody listened to me when I said that we really need get an external hard drive to make a backup, so we don't have not one.  Help would be greatly appreciated.

  You are able to start Windows now? If this isn't the case, follow the steps below.

  1 restart your computer and immediately press the F8 key until you reach the menu Advanced Boot Options.

  2. Select Disable automatic restart in the event of system failure

  3. restart the computer.

  4. After you receive the exact error message.

  For an upgrade to Windows 7, you must be able to boot into Vista. A clean install would solve your problem if it's related software. Regarding your data, try to connect the hard drive to another computer as a slave drive to see if you can recover your data. You can check in the recovery software from 3^rd party in option.

  I recently partitioned the drive where is installed OSX El Capitan. Now, to press the Option key at startup to the top, I can't select my Bootcamp partition to boot.

  Here's the info re: my product:

  • I have OSX installed on a partition 'Macintosh SSD' a 500 GB SSD
  • The files are on a 'Macintosh HD' partition in a 1 TB HARD drive
  • I have Windows Bootcamp installed on a "SOLID" NTFS partition in the same 500GB SSD
  • and another NTFS partition for Windows files "LIQUID" in the same 1 TB HARD drive
  • I also have a new partition (which lead to my problem) "ScratchDisk' in the same 500GB SSD

  Also very "SOLID" and "LIQUID" NTFS partitions are currently read-only that is ' owners: disabled "in disk utility after creating a new partition"ScratchDisk"for Photoshop in the same 500GB SSD and SOLID will not show up to start up after pressing the button 'Option '.

  I already had Tuxera NTFS installed but uninstalled.

  I use Veeam Backup & Restore 6.5 to back up my vm.  I always do a test restore to ensure that my backups are good.  I'm having a problem with a restore.  The 32-bit Server 2003 vm starts just fine on the main host it runs on.  All the vm are 64-bit except for one who is a 32-bit Server 2003 vm.  Restoring the machine virtual and implemented on a host except the 32-Bit vm Server 2003 test.  After restoration and trying power to the top, I get the following error:

  Unable to start the virtual machine.

  Turn on VPCM module has failed.

  Viewed performance counters require version 3 or greater of architectural performance monitoring.

  Anyone know if there is a fix for this problem?

  I assume you are using different hardware (CPUs, the BIOS settings) for VMS restored!

  The virtual machine has VPCM enabled, which causes the problem. You can either disable it in vSphere Web Client (you can do this in the vSphere Client Windows), or directly modify the .vmx VM by setting vpmc.enable to "FALSE".

  For how toggle this setting in the Web Client see allow virtual in the Web Client vSphere CPU Performance counters. If you want to edit the .vmx file manually, you need to delete/re-add the VM from the inventory or recharge (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1026043)

  I hope that all makes sense... I'm unable to start after the start page of Windows XP. I think I have assumed that the computer turn off when there is no. The battery may have exhausted and when I plugged it back in and tried to start it would not.

  When the Windows start page is in place, it seems that HD works for awhile, but stops and goes no further. I am able to boot in safe mode and have tried to restore with no effect. When I click on Toshiba Manager of power supply in the control panel I get "Policy of NoteBook Load Fail" this could be a problem.

  In my opinion, this power saver error message occurs because you started the laptop in safe mode. In this case, the OS doesn't use the Toshiba drivers that are required for the use of additional applications.
  You write about the restore procedure. Have you tried to install the laptop with the supplied restore CD? If this isn't the case, then try it.

  So, you understand where the problem is but why didn t you have installed graphic drivers intel one another? I mean, you know where is the problem and you can correct it.

  Otherwise, if a reinstallation does not help, it would be better to completely recover your system to eliminate the problem.

  I have an Envy 17 3D (product number: LV045UA #ABA). Recently, shortly after startup, I get an error to the effect that there is a BTTray error as it is unable to start bluetooth stack service.

  I use a Bluetooth Logitech mouse and the mouse continues to work. Befire I started having error, periodically that the mouse could be suddenly disconnected and I must initiate a discovery of the mouse with the Bluetooth discovery mechanism.

  Usually after the rediscovery of the mouse, I would have no other episodes for several days with a new day evey bootup. The error is only a recent development, but the episodes of disconnecting long enough.

  I'm not even sure that the two are linked, and I watch inconsequential number BTTray. However, I want to solve this problem of BTTray error until something of consequence occurs.

  You get this error if the drivers are not updated, or if the driver has been corrupted. I suggest measures are:

  Method 1: Bluetooth device driver update. Steps to update the device driver:

  a. click on start
  b. Select Control Panel
  c. Select system and maintenance
  d. click Device Manager (if you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.)
  e. in the Device Manager, look for the Blue tooth device
  f. click on the driver tab and then select Player update
