  Thanks for checking out the Apple Support communities for help with your MacBook Pro. I understand that you are wanting to be able to navigate in the login window of your MacBook Pro for your trackpad doesn't work. There are some keyboard shortcuts that can be useful even if the trackpad is not responding to you. I've highlighted some of these shortcuts below.

  Control - command - power Force your Mac button to restart.

  Control - Option - command - (button / stop or eject media) exit all applications, then shut down your Mac. If any open documents have unsaved changes, you will be asked if you want to save.

  Start button / Stop button for 5 seconds to force your Mac to turn off.

  Shift-command-Q log out of your OS X user account. You will be asked to confirm.

  If you encounter any problems with your trackpad, I suggest you also try resetting the SMC on your MacBook, if you have not already. • Download El Capitan don't restart

  I started the download El Capitan and realized that I wanted to first install Yosemite and then use Time Machine to have a back up of my system with this version first.  I have a Late 2008 Macbook (2 GHz) with 8 GB of RAM (2 GB upgrade) and I was nervous about the performance of El Capitan on it.  I suspended the download of El Capitan, downloaded Yosemite and restarted my system.  For some reason any (stupid), I then took the El Capitan partial download file, put it in the trash and (firmly) emptied the Recycle Bin.  Now, when I go to the App Store to download El Capitan it won't restart the download from scratch, no doubt because he seeks the original file to resume (which no longer exists).  Help, please!

  What version of OS are you using? If you run El Capitan, he won't work except in the latest LR6 and CC.   If you do not already have a current backup, please backup all data, and then reinstall the OS. * you don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need the backup unless something is wrong. If the system has been upgraded an earlier version of Mac OS X, you may need to the Apple ID and password to use.

• Airport Extreme control app won't load on EL Capitan

  Two questions really.  I was looking for a complete manual for the AIrport Extreme, so I could find our wha that the capacity is before, I bought.  All I could find were manual installation.  Same story when I rang Applecare. It appeared that the only way to access the settings needed to run the application.  I downloaded the app and try to start it upward, hoping that it would require not just to know where was the Alex.  It was worse that the one - the app doesn't load, complaining that it was incompatible with my system.

  (I'll point out here that the only reason why I'm running that el Capitan is because of a run-in earlier with support Applecare who assured that the problem should disappear if I installed 10.11.)  It does not and it took four or five calls before I finally made to someone who knoew what he spoke.)

  Airport utility is built into Mac OS... you don't need to download or install any.

  Look under applications and directory of public services.

  But that won't really help you... the airport must be in the network to show you the real details.

• El Capitan Upgrade - Login does not

  I just upgraded from Cougar to El Capitan on my imac for 2012.  I have two accounts on my machine that I share with my partner. I can connect to my account and everything works fine. However, when you try to connect to my partners account, it hangs for hours and is stuck. Any suggestions?
