  • Defragmentation after fresh re - install

I just did a reinstall fresh Windows XP, Office 2003, all service packs and updates. Then download and install lastes versions of essential programs such as adobe software, Java, Flash, Quicktime and security. Then the settings imported and set up Outlook. I thought that I should defragment the hard drive at this point (before you install all my other 3rd party programs and all my backup files) so that the Windows operating system would occur at the optimal level. However, when I run the analyzer tool he says have not defragment now. Should I still defragment now or is better to leave it alone and install all my backup files and 3 third party programs. Wait while the analyzer tool reports the need to defragment.

I look forward to the notice of hearing thereon. Thank you!

The whole issue of defragmentation is still somewhat controversial. Many people believe that it is a valuable tool and to often do to improve performance.

On the other side are those who believe that the defragmentation is not only unnecessary, but actually shorten the life of a hard drive.

In the bad old days of FAT and Windows 3.x files got quickly fragmented and with the speed of hard drives, this caused a significant deterioration of the recovery of files, thereby slowing down the performance of the system. Frequent defragmentation was required. With the arrival of NTFS, file, however, the file system has become much more resistant to fragmentation. This reduces the need to defragment often. With the fragmentation of the speed of modern readers, the impact of (and need) has been reduced substantially.

As John John has pointed out, it does no harm to defragment. I count not on Windows assessment to judge whether to defragment or not. If it has been awhile, go ahead. In your case, it is not a bad thing to do.

I actually use a program called Diskeeper that automatically detects and prevents the fragmentation and also will be defrag if it detects that it is necessary and it makes when there is no demand on the processor or hard drive. Do a good job? You bet. It's so transparent that you are not yet aware unless you check the Task Manager. Is this necessary? It is open to debate. I love it and use it.

  • EliteBook 2570p: cannot install Ethernet Controller 82579LM

    Hello

I have a 2570p with Win7 EliteBook and missing ethernet controller. The hardware id says I have an Intel 82579LM card so I downloaded the hp sp60775 file, unpacked (which proved that it is already there on my system), and run the installer. But each time it gives me "no network connection intel are on this computer." No drivers have been installed. I'm at a loss here and I can't download the driver from Intel because their download area always gave me a 504

    Your help is greatly appreciated!

    At any time.

I think that, at this stage, your option is limited to the reinstallation of the operating system.

  • 8470p: Elitebook 8470p help install XP

    Hello

    I need help.

I want to install Win XP 32 bit on my Elitebook 8470p, which came with Win8. I need to do a clean XP install on the laptop.

If anyone can help me please you through the steps necessary to install XP on this laptop?

I have a bootable CD with installation of XP, I start the installation but the laptop freezes at the "Setup starts windows" and displays the BSOD with acpi.sys inside.

I tried many options in the BIOS, like disabling AHCI and activation IDE mode and a lot of other options, but no one allows to go beyond this error.

    Thank you.

    Hello:

Set the drive controller setting in the BIOS to AHCI.

Also enable the legacy mode in the BIOS, that must disable secure boot.  XP is not compatible with secure startup.

Then read the info at the link below, section of Intel.  Then read the info on the downloadable document for how to integrate all the sata drivers.

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/notebook-operating-system-and-recovery/SATA-drivers-for-XP-solution-on-0x0000007B-BSOD/m-p/114120#M17758

I compressed upwards and tied the drivers that you need wake below.

Slipstream the unzipped file the entire file.

  • EliteBook 750 G2: Install Win 7 64-bit DVD?

OK, this is crazy, but... How to install Win 7 64 bit from the HP operating system disk? My EliteBook is not a built-in DVD player and I can't boot from my USB DVD drive in the computer. When I go into the boot with the DVD drive plugged menu, the only startup options are 'hard drive' and 'ethernet '.

There is a setup.exe file on the disk that gives me an error when I double click on it.

I have to enter the BIOS and change something?

Is there another way to install the OS?

    Thank you very much!

    -J.D. Walker

    Hello:

There are a couple of BIOS settings, you will need to change in order to install and run W7.

There are also some difficulties starting from USB3 ports.

In the BIOS, you will have to enable the legacy mode and disable secure boot (legacy mode activation can disable secure boot), in order to install and run W7.

For USB3 ports, see if there is a BIOS setting to have USB3 ports emulate usb ports 2 (or an Auto setting).

If there is not, unfortunately, I don't know what the problem is about why you cannot start USB ports.

You will need to do a fresh install of Win 10 for one SSD on a Studio XPS 7100 with HDD doubtful.  If cloning will not work.   Backup media is 5 years old, so I prefer to do a new installation

I did the upgrade of Win10, worked after trying 4, 2 failure dodgy hard drive, used Window Media Creator to get an upgrade to work.

Win10 actually cleared up some locking problems I had on Win7

I used Windows Media creator for trying to install fresh on the SSD, but no operating system found after the attempt.

What do I need to reinstall Dell software to make it work?   What are the steps for a new installation.  Links or information

Thanks for any direction you can give me.

If you have successfully activate Windows 10 previously. Follow the instructions here to download the .iso image file:

    Intel HD Graphics driver

  • U160 - fresh WIN7 install

    Hello

Ive had good fun with my (i5) 0894 IdeaPad U160, at least until my HARD drive crashed and started making horrible noises. (Partition recovery... Miss me you so bad)

On the HARD drive and went in went an SSD (agility, 64 GB).

Now, I downloaded a Win 7 (32 bit). ISO, unpacked on a USB key using the "Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool" and installed. However, it installs Windows 7 is slow.  Miles slower than the Win 7 Home Premium making before. Install WIN 7 took ~ 4 minutes on the SSD, but no action result of windows Explorer in 2 minutes of "not responding". Something within Windows slowdown total. TaskManager shows approximately 2% of the maximum activity all in "not responding". RAM is fine.

Here's what I've tried so far:

Used 4 different Win 7 isos: with S.P.1and without, from different sources. Tried the update of Windows.

Install the drivers for the Chipset and video. Hotfix refuses to install. Not sure if Intel Management Engine installed from each window takes 2 minutes to half an hour to even appear.

    Install the new BIOS.

My recovery disc is scratched and will not start. Honestly im rather sick of having to run PC decr.apifier with each new installation, so I prefer a clean install anyway. How the hell can a new Windows + U160 not work? is the only option to buy Lenovo recovery for 30 dollars and decra.pify disc my PC again? Or my PC sent to Lenovo for several weeks? (then decra.pify it). Lenovo, will install an operating system on a spare HARD drive?

He spent about 10 hours now reading the forums and trying to make it work. It seems to be a lot of ppl on the net with a similar problem and zero with a response. Which driver is causing the slowdown?

    OK, answering my own post:

    http://www.WinFuture-Forum.de/index.php?showtopic=184160

    In short:

Windows has had problems with AHCI drivers.

Fault lies somewhere with [Windows, manufacturers of disk architecture Council].  A fast drive can lead to a mess while many data access (Installation / games) (Race condition). Download the latest driver AHCI (10 V) from Intel has solved my problem. Fixes to Microsoft or Service Pack for Win7 should help too. Theres also new chipset drivers out there.

Unfortunatelly it was not possible to run the disk in IDE mode, the pilots had to be installed when the drive kept freezing.

  • Edge 14 - drivers WiFi on a fresh Win7 install

    Hi-

I recently formatted my hard drive and put my own copy of Win7 on my Thinkpad Edge 14 (0579-A62). There is no recovery partition more. After being surprised that Win7 was no driver integrated for display or WiFi, I plugged in an ethernet cable and went on the Lenovo support site. I tried all the networking: WLAN drivers, but none of them leave work wireless. I installed the Intel PROSet software and it just says: "the driver is not installed" so I guess that it has nothing to do with the WiFi key on the keyboard. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help RedEd12, but I had to go a different route to resolve this.

I went to Device Manager, went to properties for the uneven device and looked at the Vendor ID and the device ID and the google channel.  I discovered that the wireless network adapter is a Realtek RTL8188CE which is NOT one of the factors listed on networking: WLAN section on the page of the driver of Lenovo.

I got the drivers here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=21&PFid=48&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdI... (Do a search for "8188CE").

Shame on you, Lenovo. I lost $13 on a USB Wireless Adapter earlier today before I understood that.
