    Friends,

    I can't run Virtual ESX host configured in my Asus u56e laptop machine. Explains Intel Vtx unsupported.

    I checked to find that my machine has Intel VT turned on in the Bios.

    Please notify. I tried to use VMware-guest64check - 5.5.0 - 18463 tool and it said that my machine can support 64 bit OS. Fixing of newspapers.

    In my computer, open your VM ESXi and go to VM-> settings.  Under processors, check the box next to 'Virtualiser Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/IVR.'

  • A virtual machine created in ESX 4 can be converted to run an ESX 3.5 Server?

    The subject says it all.  Our main office has created a virtual machine on their ESX 4 server running.  They want us to use the same but we are running ESX 3.5.  We have no time to upgrade our server to 4 again.  We get an error when we try to start by saying this is not not compatible because it was created with a version with more features.

    If a virtual machine created in ESX 4 can be converted to run an ESX 3.5 server using converter?

    most important:

    change

    virtualHW.version = '7' to '4 '.

    in the vmx file

    then change

    ddb.virtualHWVersion = '7' to '4 '.

    in the vmdk file

    the other changes are optional - for example, you need to remove the lines that start with pciBridge and all the lines making reference to... .pciSlotNumber

    also take care of not to use more then 6 PCIdevices in 4 virtual material - i.e. the sum interface cards scsi controllers + network + video cannot be greater then 6

    If you have a time that is very simple and much much much faster then converter - post an example if you want

  • Tolls of VMware running within esx 4.0 running on workstation 6.5

    Hi all

    I am running vmware esx 4 as a virtual machine in vmware 6.5 wrkstation.

    When you try to install vmware tools within the esx, after installation, I can't configure. That's what he said.

    The installation of the vmware tools 7.8.5 build 156735 completed successfully.  Before you run Vmware tools for the first time, you must configure it by invoking the following command. "/ usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl". Do you want the program to call the order for you now

    I hit enter and it says so in a few seconds. "This Setup must be run in a virtual machine. Execution interrupted.

    How can do us? He does not like a VM esx

    Thank you

    The system requirements to run nested VMS opposes using the external virtual machine tools.  If you delete "monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = TRUE" since the external virtual machine configuration file, you should be able to install the external virtual machine tools.  However, VMs nested is not functioning properly in this configuration.

    There is no version of VMware tools for ESX. The release of VMware tools for Linux may or may not work in the console ESX OS.

    Howerver, I'm not able to find the option

    1. Select the virtual machine that is running ESX.
    2. Go in VM > Settings.
    3. Click the Options tab.
    4. Select the General settings.
    5. Under Guest operating system , select VMware ESX.
    6. Click OK.

    We are not able to find this option in ESX 4, so we can run this VM.

    Please help urgently...

    Kind regards

    The log file looks good now.  However, it seems that ESX 4.0 is older than I remembered.  Please, add the following line to your ESX VM configuration file and try again:

  • To run commands ESX using PowerCLI

    Hello

    Please can someone help to get a script to run by Powercli ESX commands and capture the output of the Excel sheet. For example, I want to run esxcfg-mpath - l on all servers in the vCenter, and get the result in the worksheet Excel in a neat way.

    There are more that 100 ESX host, also is painful run these commands on each of them one by one.

    Thank you.

    Nick

    In the case of esxcfg-mpath command is not so difficult to produce objects of the output.

    Something like this should do the trick

    Add-vCLIfunction
    $env:VI_USERNAME="root" $env:VI_PASSWORD="password"

     $result = foreach($esx in Get-VMHost){
      esxcfg-mpath -l --server $esx.Name | %{
            if($_.Length -gt 0){
                if($_.Contains(': ')){
                    $temp = $_.Split(':')
                    Add-Member -InputObject $obj -Name $temp[0].Trim() -Value $temp[1].Trim() -MemberType NoteProperty
                }
                else{
                    $obj = New-Object PSObject -Property @{
                        VMHost = $esx.Name
                        Name = $_                }
                }
            }
            else{
                $obj        }
        }
        $obj}

    $result | Export-Csv "C:\mpath.csv" -NoTypeInformation -UseCulture

    Note that this works that for the esxcfg-mpath-l command, other commands produce different output.

    And should be analyzed first of all the output.

  • Conversation of OVF Workstation 8 running on ESX/ESXi

    Hello

    If I have a virtual machine with hardware compatibility "6, 5-7.x virtual machine Workstation" (ESX marked also), and I create an OVF of this virtual machine.

    This OVF can automatically be loaded in an ESX 3.x/ESXi 4.x server or VM (OVF) must be converted using the VMWare Standalone coverter?

    Best regards

    Anders L.

    You should be able to download the virtual machine directly on your ESX Server without converting it first to an OVF (WS internally converts it into an OVF for you). You can simply open the virtual machine in WS, connect to your ESX Server and drag and drop the virtual machine on the ESX Server in the library. If you already have as an OVF, you can use ovftool.exe to download the VM to ESX.

  • Run the host ESX 4.1 in vCenter 5.0

    Hello everyone, I have a simple question.   I am running 4.1 U1 ESX hosts and vCenter 4.1.  I need to upgrade to ESX 4.1 U2.   I know I need to improve my vCenter to match my version of ESX host, but I thought I killed a stone 2 strokes.   I have the license for vCenter and ESX 5.0 but I'm programmed to upgrade next year.   Given that I have to upgrade my vCenter anyway can I go to version 5.0 and run my ESX host on v 4.1 U1 without any loss of functionality?

    I would like to upgrade everything at once, but the company needs me to complete the test first upgrade of the host is not an option at this time.

    Thanks for your help with this.

    Hello

    You shouldn't lose any features with what you described.  Remember however that in one year, you will still need to patch vCenter to upgrade to the latest version 5.x.

    Thank you

  • AIX, HP - UX, Solaris running under VMware ESX

    Is it possible to run any flavor of Unix under VMware operating system at the server level? I know Linux is able to, but it is if Unix is possible. If this is not the case, is there any intention to do so in any future project. Thank you.

    Alan.

    Hello

    If Tom said there are ways to sort of make a difference...

    Solaris x 86-> Yes

    Solaris Sparc-> Yes if you use transitive

    IRIX-> No. (not x 86)

    AIX-> No. (not x 86)

    OSF/Tru64 Unix-> No. (not x 86)

    HP - UX-> No. (not x 86) but they have the software of HP Integrity (Itanium) Virtual Machine

    OpenVMS-> No. (not x 86)

    BSDi-> not really (if you can find something with SCSI support)

    FreeBSD-> Yes

    OpenBSD-> Yes

    Ultrix-> No. (not x 86)

    UnixWare-> not really (if you can find something with SCSI support)

    SCO-> not really (if you can find something with SCSI support)

    So, for running a Unix as a VM, UNIX must support x 86 hardware (or something to translate x 86) and if you want it run in ESX UNIX must support SCSI LSI or BUSlogic SCSI adapters. For workstation IDE may work. In addition, it must support the ethernet as well AMD PCNET32 device.

  • How to control the execution of a sequence of flat have the Cancel button

    Hello
    I have a question for you guys.
    Suppose I want to write a program to control a set of materials by sending commands via a serial port
    In fact, he calls a 'round '. Because a series of specific commands will send via a serial port at once specific time. What I call one a time Cycle.
    Between each send command steps there is a delay (waiting in range of Timing). The joint part of my VI.

    I was wondering how I can integrate a Cancel button which is able to act in any image of the flat sequence Structure?
    As you can see it is not everything in loops to have the best control of the program because I want to run commands in the series only once.
    Where to put the button 'Cancel' in frames?
    I want to show a confirmation message when the user clicked the Cancel button, and if the answer was 'YES' LabvIEW stops running flat sequence Structure and of the specific procedure to cancel (which is not included in above VI) takes place. Otherwise (by clicking 'NO') program continues to run...

    Note that home is just a simple version of what I intend to

    For example in some frames, it will be a while loop and so on...

    But there will be only on flat sequence at all

    Excuse me for my bad English

    Hi mostafi,.

    General answer: convert your flat sequence in a correct state machine States!

    Now, you can check your "Cancel" button after each State is treated...

  • Migration of VMs from ESX to ESXi 5.5 4.0

    Hi all

    What would be the best way to migrate virtual machines running cluster ESX 4.0 to 5.5 ESXi Cluster.

    In my view, there are two ways to do:

    1. Map (VMFS3) LUNS to the new cluster ESXi 5.5
      1. Shut down the virtual machine under the old cluster
      2. Remove inventory under the old cluster
      3. Add the VMFS3 LUN to the title of the new group
      4. Add the server to the inventory
      5. Power on virtual machines
      6. Perhaps svMotion machine virtual of VMFS3 new VMFS5 data store.
    2. Migrate the virtual via Vmware Converter Standalone Computer Cluster again.

    I think that method 1 would be the fastest, but I doubt if it is really practical, especially considering that the same data store/logic unit number will be writable by 2 different versions of ESX 4.0 and 5.5 at the same time.

    And method 2 seems the best way to me before that this will give me a possibility to start the virtual machine on the old cluster conversion failed if V2V or the destination virtual machine has problems.

    With above I have also considered possible vmotion, adding the former ESX host 4.0 under the pile of 5.5 ESXi but Xeon Intel processors are quite old and being unfit for vmotion, designed to allow CVS too, but for this I must put the new servers CPU up to the level of the old CPU and post migration of servers will have to close all VM to put all the servers again at their optimum level by disabling EVC.

    So could someone please guide which would be the best way, because we intend to migrate about 150 virtual machines. Thank you.

    between steps 1 and 2 take the new backups just in case. You have no need to have both writable for each cluster between steps 2 and 3 remove the volume from the old cluster. Also, between cold steps 4 and 5, you can migrate them to the new from the old storage.

  • What client can connect to the server ESX 2.5.2?

    Asked me to restart a computer virtual running in ESX Server 2.5.2. Y at - it a client vSphere for this or do I need something else? I started with VMWare 4.0.0 if this old box is a bit before my time...

    I found what I needed in this reference http://www.vmware.com/pdf/esx25_admin.pdf

    Look at page 79 for the overview: using the VMware Management Interface

    Then on page 82 for details: using Internet Explorer 6.0 to access the VMware Management Interface

    It doesn't seem to work best with Internet Explorer 6. I had no luck with IE7, but don't spend too much time on him.

  • Differences in performance between ESX and HyperV

    Hi all

    Is there someone out there who might be able to shed light on a VMware technical questions we do?

    We have a customer who has two servers spec looks like a running VMware ESX 5i and another running Server 2008 R2 HyperV. Each server has a single CPU VM running on this Server 2008 R2 running with identical amounts of RAM. HyperV server is equipped with Intel X 5650 processors, ESX Server has Intel E5-2630 procs.

    VM HyperV under load shows about 50% less CPU usage to the ESX Server VM under the same load even if the virtual machines are very similar specified. The two are running the same application and the same load.

    The customer asked us to explain why there is such a marked difference.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Richard

    I mean on the hardware itself.
