Tolls of VMware running within esx 4.0 running on workstation 6.5

Hi all

I am running vmware esx 4 as a virtual machine in vmware 6.5 wrkstation.

When you try to install vmware tools within the esx, after installation, I can't configure. That's what he said.

The installation of the vmware tools 7.8.5 build 156735 completed successfully.  Before you run Vmware tools for the first time, you must configure it by invoking the following command. "/ usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl". Do you want the program to call the order for you now

I hit enter and it says so in a few seconds. "This Setup must be run in a virtual machine. Execution interrupted.

How can do us? He does not like a VM esx

Thank you

The system requirements to run nested VMS opposes using the external virtual machine tools.  If you delete "monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = TRUE" since the external virtual machine configuration file, you should be able to install the external virtual machine tools.  However, VMs nested is not functioning properly in this configuration.

There is no version of VMware tools for ESX. The release of VMware tools for Linux may or may not work in the console ESX OS.

I thought it was possible to run 64-bit inside ESX virtual machines running inside my computer?

Not at all.  This is because the processor virtualization hardware virtualization features are a significant development effort.  By design, the processor hardware virtualization features are not available to a virtual machine that is running on the hardware virtualization, so these characteristics must be imitated by the hypervisor.

  • Help networking running ESX (i) in the VM Workstation

    Hi everyone-

    Hope someone can help.

I have ESX (i) running in the VM Workstation on my laptop. My problem is that I can't move from my laptop to the domestic VMs. The route correctly on VMs inside and I can communicate back and forth with ESX just cannot access the internal VMs from my laptop. I can ping the default gateway of my laptop workstation VM virtual network editor implements.

    -On promiscuous mode

-Tried several options with nic, vSwitch and VM workstation network Editor.

Any ideas on how to Setup network for this config? Goal is to be able to RDP to internal VMs.

    Thank you

    Jason

This should be pretty easy - please show a screenshot of your network virtual Editor settings.

Here is all I have to do on the ESXi vmnet0 for example ethernet card

the host can have the IP 10.0.0.1, the ESXi then takes 10.0.0.2 and the nested VM gets 10.0.0.3
I don't have to manually set routes at all

It should also work with vmnet0 and DHCP for three - assuming you have a DHCP server that is connected to the bridged the host network adapter

during troubleshooting, turn off the firewall host and the nested VM

  • VMware ESXi for ESX 4

    Hello

Someone know if can I upgrade my ESX 3i (3.5.0) to VMware vSphere (ESX 4)?

    Thank you

You can't spend of ESX ESXi... ESX to ESX and ESXi for ESXi only... At least, not as an 'upgrade '. Provided that your host is on the HCL for ESX/ESXi 4 (u1 as well), then you can install it. This will be a facility of cleaning/charges however, wiping the LUN which ESX is installed on.

You might want to stay on ESXi however, given that ESX is pretty much going to end with the 4.x releases (at least this is what I mean)... The released product in 2011 only is not available in two flavors, just ESXi...

The ESX CLI, consider using the device of vMA and element vSphere CLI on your vCenter Server installation. You can also install the PowerCLI element to win these CLI scripting options.

    VMware VCP4

  • Running under Workstation 7 ESX 3.5

I know you can run vSphere under my computer, but I would like to run ESX 3.5. Can I use the same process used to load it on the old 6.0 versions or is there a better way?

Open the create new virtual machine Wizard and create an ESX 4 VM - you can then reduce the amount of RAM virtual in case it's needed / wanted.

  • VMWARE SERVER OR ESX? infrastructure consolidation

    Hello

We must take a decision on a simple question. To consolidate our 2 servers on VMWARE SERVER 2 or move to ESX.

Currently, we have 1 esx (performing a large) and 1 SERVER VMWARE 1.06 (no operation never met nor). We have more skills on VMWARE SERVER and we vmwares heavily downloading clients (vms development).

On VMWARE SERVER, it is crystal clear, but on ESX (especially with LINUX VM) is tricky. Under Windows, we use the converter but with linux, we don't have many options.

I think the underlying question is: product IS VMWARE SERVER is going to disappear?

Any notice will be really appreciatte!

    Kind regards

I think that you have very well answered your question on what platform you use. You seem to be a lot more comfortable with VMware Server - and it's a great product - so why not stick with it? You might consider ESXi (free version)... assuming that your hardware will support it, but I think you might find the complexity of dealing with ever-present VMFS file system - and it sounds like it is your biggest problem with ESX.

I think the underlying question is: product IS VMWARE SERVER is going to disappear?

Not any time soon. VMware Server fills a different niche than not ESX/ESXi. VMware Server 2.0 is already available and I do not see VMware keeps the product - it is an introduction to virtualization soft and is a path to the company, ESX product range.

You have more than one snapshot? in this case, you will need to provide arguments to inform additional cli command which instant you want missing. If you want that all went snapshots just use

    VMware-vim-cmd vmsvc/snapshot.removeall vmid

Use the following command to get more information on the State of snapshot for VM

    VMware-vim-cmd vmsvc/get.snapshotinfo vmid

I have a Dell T610 I just add two 600 GB hard drives for. I have difficulties to get the vmware to recognize the two new drives... I restarted the controller of the virtual machine, but it still does not see the readers when I go to the configuration and storage and the rescann. No, the PERC will support up to 64 virtual disks (windows)... they can be in their own RAID 1, separate from the existing RAID?.

  • Run the Workstation VMS in Vcenter 5

    Hello

I'm trying to run a virtual machine in workstation, which is nested within the virtual machine created in Vcenter. I try to start the virtual machine, but get the following message is displayed:

Running on a virtual machine VMware Workstation requires the external virtual machine is configured to run a VMware ESX guest operating system. You can not power on a virtual machine until the external virtual machine is reconfigured.

I know that you need to configure a file, but I couldn't see all the documents on the Workstation 7 configuration details.

Any help is really appreciated. (Workstation VM's linux, Vcenter vm windows 2003)

    Kind regards

Older versions of workstation have a conflict between the of the VMware Tools on the level of comments and libraries of VMware Tools on the level of the host.  Ideally, you do want to run both on the external virtual machine, since it is the guest of the physical machine and a host of nested virtual machines.  With Workstation 7, it was not possible.

The monitor_control option I suggested earlier will disable VMware Tools comments for external virtual machine level.  However, it seems that you have installed, which will pose problems for VMware Tools at the level of the host.

You should put off the virtual computer, remove the monitor_control option, turn on the virtual machine, uninstall VMware Tools, power off the virtual computer, add the monitor_control option, turn on the virtual machine and reinstall the workstation.  Then, I think that things should work.

10 workstation doesn't have these problems.

  • Just installed vmware ESXi 4.0.0.  Also have Workstation 6.5 I have a few questions here...

Good day, I am new and vmware esxi virtualization in general...

I installed the server esxi 4.0. and I want to welcome a few virtual machines on this server. I tried the ViCLient and really like it. But this customer is a 60 day trial and it costs $ 1,000 per license, if I understand correctly...

I also have the Vmware workstation 6.5 software.

My main goal for this is to be able to import and export on the esxi virtual machines, create snapshots, export these snapshots, etc... I'm not too familiar with Workstation 6.5 so, but so far, it does the job in terms of export and imprting vms from the ESXi. But I would like to be able to browse the data store, create virtual machines on the esxi without having to create them locally AND export to ESXi...

I would like to be able to create, manage, copy, create and import/export snapshots, to/from the esxi, but I guess you can't do all this using VmWare Workstation? I would buy the Vsphere CLient, but I'm not one who has a hand on the budget of COMPUTING...

When you access download ESXi you license number appears near the top of the page. Enter this number in the Configuration tab under license vSphere client.
