Envy 17-n111tx: copy BIOS

I was wondering if someone can tell me how to make a copy of my current bios.

Current BIOS is F.1A 17n-111tx desire.

Thank you.

Hello

As you are on Windows 10, the HP Tools folder is now located inside the EFI system partition.

A way to access it is as follows.

Download and install the free utility Manager file Commander on points following link.

http://FreeCommander.com/en/summary/

Once completed, right-click of the icon from the Start Menu, and then select command prompt (Admin).

In the command prompt, type the following command, and press enter (include the spaces as shown below).

mountvol x: /s

Then type exit and press ENTER.

On the Start Menu, select all applications, and then open free Commander folder, right-click on the free utility Commander inside, select more and and select "Run as Administrator".

In the window of the free Commander, select partition X in the toolbar, and then navigate to:

X:\EFI\HP\BIOS\Current

This folder contains the binary not encrypted (and not the encrypted file .fd) and the required signature file.

Kind regards

    Hello

I'm new to this Yes please forgive my ignorance. My new Envy 17 - n111tx is about to happen, and from what I understand, I'm able to add an extra storage device in the optical drive Bay.

I would like to replace one of the hard drives of 2 TB with an SSD (Crucial MX200 250 GB) and then put the HARD drive in the optical drive Bay.

    Here are my questions:
    1. what kind of SSD do I need, the 2.5 "or M2?
2 should I all media for this?
3 I need supports when installing the HARD disk in the optical drive Bay?
    4. among the two hard drives of 2 TB, which is installed the OS on?

    Thanks for your help

    Kam124,

I have found some additional reading for you - on the "Equipment and upgrade" section of this forum.

In the "Discussion forums" (upper left corner), select "Notebook Hardware Upgrade issues and.

Next - search once you're in the hardware section - 'HP 17 n' which will take you to tread:

Re: HP Envy 17 n-000, also known as the M8W99AV_1

This discussion (with photos), this is what you are needing to know the upgrade of your system - the only difference is, you already have the hard-drive-kit (hardware) they discuss.  So you will not need to be overly concerned about adding 2nd HARD drive - but it is interesting to read.

The photos included - must be exactly what your system will look-very neat - and easy to upgrade.

ATTENTION: There is a link to youtube (on page 5) about how to add a 2nd HDD to an Envy 17 - this does NOT apply to your odel - is a portable 17 alumni.

Some centers of discussion on the SSD m2 - I have not looked at all this discussion - but I'm sure it will be interesting.

    Hope this helps,

  • Corruption of the HP Envy Ultrabook 6-1090eo bios

Hello! I am new to the forum and have som issues with my laptop.

The system freezes and I rebooted the computer and now blink twice caps lock. The screen is totally black and I can't do anything. I read a lot on the net for a solution, but nothing has helped yet. I installed Support HP UEFI environment for a kingston 1gig memory and placed the bios (01894.bin) file in bios\current. I also put in the root and everywhere else but nothing. My question is what should I name the .bin fie? In the platform.ini file, it says:

    [Platform_Check]
    Flag = 3
    PlatformName1 = AA
    PlatformName2 = BB

I tried (both top/lowerlower) 0489.bin aa.bin bb.bin and also changes the ending at .fd file.

I do not have the original partition on my hard drive so I can't restore frome there. I ordered a restoration of HP usb key, but it will take som time it happens.

Andy tool (phoenixtool) cannot open the bios file, so I can't decipher the bios file to search for a character string containing the name of the file

The pc seeks on the USB, but only for a few seconds and then the caps lock will begin to Flash.

Really hope you guys can help out me!

Sorry for my bad English and thanks in advance!

    Best regards, Linus

  • HP Envy 15-j139TX: the BIOS using external storage recovery does not work.

My HP Envy 15-j139TX got stuck (frozen) and I force closure by long pressing the power button. I tried to start by pressing the power button, it shows a black screen (display off) and the capslock continues to Flash.

I did research on the problem and discovered that the issue was "the BIOS corruption failure" according to the information on the link below:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01732674/

I tried to recover the BIOS using an external storage device by following the instructions at the link below:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02693833

But it did not work. The lights keep flashing. I have my files b.SC. thesis on the computer and their need for pronto. (If not my life is pretty well made)

I also couldn't find the files for version 10 of Windows (64-bit) to my laptop, so I tried with one I downloaded from another site and I got a BIOS of Windows 8.1 HP site.

Is there anyway I can fix it soon or get my files as soon as possible. Help, please!

Have you ever updated the BIOS before?

If you have, you should be able to recover the BIOS using the Windows key + key B method.

All holding the key Windows + B button down, press the power button and wait to see if the laptop responds with a message of recovery of the BIOS on screen.

As my wife continued his mastery, I insisted on his recording of his files periodically to our home network NAS.

You can remove the hard drive and connect it to a desktop computer to get the files from it. You can connect the hard drive to a USB to sata cable to connect it to a laptop.   Instructions to access the disk by opening the back door are on page 42 of the maintenance and service guide. The hard drive is part replaceable by the user, so you don't have to worry about voiding the warranty.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c03943414

Your notebook is new enough to have the recovery key enter BIOS update available. Use the F.65 version in the Windows 8.1 driver download section. the softpaq is at the following ADDRESS.

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp69501-70000/sp69886.exe

You will need at least 256 MB usb key to create a USB rcovery to recover the BIOS with. BIOS update softpaq will offer the opportunity of creating a recovery USB. I used the method on multiple occasions and it worked for me.

  • HP Envy 4500: scanner/copier

When I scan or copy - the scanner cuts about 1 inch of the document.   I need be able to scan/copy/print throughout a document from edge to edge.  This machine is not that?

I just bought the scanner/printer and I scanned the printed document as the instructions said.  Please don't ask me to re load drivers, etc..  The latest version of the driver is installed.

    Hi @amyinlittleton,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that the scanner is cut to about 1 inch of the document. When scanning with your HP Envy printer 4500. I'm happy to help you in your analysis!

What is the size/type of paper you use? (for example. Letter 8.5 x 11, etc..)

When you place the page on the glass you want to make sure that the entire page is closer to the edge of the scanner that does not have the scanner bar (right side). If you have it on the scanner bar (left side), it could be the reason why you lose the 1 inch.

Hope this helps suggestion and hope to hear from you soon!

  • Envy 17-j043cl: corrupted BIOS

Problem started when my daughter has added a second HD and we have installed Linux on this drive. There is no entry for Linux BIOS boot change the default boot order, and all attempts to make changes only not good for the worst. We tried to go to the legacy mode, which promtped a reboot and the next screen to enter a code to take effect and a prompt for boot options, which never came to the top. When we went back into the BIOS, it shows the inheritance is always disabled. Enabling secure boot restarts even in a code to enter, but this also fails. Currently, we have tried to activate either (secure boot and legacy are disabled). Win 10 defective ACPI_BIOS_ERROR before secure boot disabled. We can enter the BIOS and go to Boot Options, navigate to the file boot firmly his Linux and efi. Linux works fine, we were not able to boot on a Windows 10 DVD to try to repair Windows 10 and at this point can't get secure startup, or legacy startup to activate. We also tried allowing only an administrator BIOS password but no change, still unable to activate.

We tried F9 to restore the default BIOS, no change. We tried the menu to restore default BIOS, no change. We have tried, perhaps thinking that something has corrupted the BIOS, to level or to reflash the BIOS with BIOS version even. F.66 currently. His ID card system is 1965. The problem with all BIOS download for its Touchsmart from HP Envy 17-j043cl and unregistered is they don't have that file system board BIOS code 1966 1961, but hers is 1965. Without an exact match, we at our end to get this matter resolved. Any ideas? This sounds like a corrupted BIOS? Why does it seem impossible allow a secure start or inheritance? Is the boot options locked so as to only allow to boot Windows normally from the BIOS? Pointers or other ideas to help are appreciated.

    Joe

Yes! It is fixed. Inside the interface EFI partition was the 01966.bin file, the last touch to this riddle. We were able to reflash it to the same version, F.66, USB, we had created since the softpaq (sp73289.exe), via the system, firmware management Diagnostics. It flashed fine and then started right Windows 10, so nothing on the disk hard Windows has been tampered. We'll put to start first at openSUSE 42.1 Leap and may start in Windows 10 in the Menu of Grub easier than playing with BIOS options each time.

Thank you, DoughJohn, for all your help.

  • HP Envy 700-074 model BIOS corruption, or bug, etc.

    Hello

My name is Patrick Barker, and I'm an analyst of the blue screen of death core Dump. During the last week, I ran into two users having a HP Envy 700-074 computer and experience the same exact bug check. The first time I met such a bug check, I imagined that the user may have simply received a system with a bad BIOS, things like this happen in computers all the time. Well, the user contacted HP and replaced it with the exact same model course, and he had the same problem.

Right at that time, I discovered another user knows exactly the same problem as the previous user. With a consistency like this, I wonder if there is a corruption of the BIOS and/or the bug associated with this particular model?

What is happening is that there is a frequency of verification of bug ACPI_BIOS_ERROR (a5) .

This bug check indicates that the BIOS Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) computer is not fully compliant with the ACPI specification.

    Error checking A5, {1000, 0, 80001000, 25}

The 1st setting has always been far 1000.

    1000 = ACPI_BIOS_USING_OS_MEMORY.

ACPI has been a fatal error during the processing of a region of memory operation. The region of operation memory tried memory card which has been attributed to the use of the OS.

This bug check usually appears in these 2 scenarios:

1 BIOS bug / damaged and must be resolved with an update or go back to the manufacturer.

    2 Rootkit (not very common).

In our case, it is #1. Exactly, what is happening? I can't be quite too sure due to having to have a version controlled ACPI.sys to debug such a question and with what is happening on another system user, I won't use them as guinea pigs. However, this seems a general problem from what I can tell about this model BIOS. For reference, a BIOS update is not currently available for this specific model, so not quite sure that the end user can do, especially if their systems of replacement of the same model have the same question over and over again.

    -----------------

Two threads where it occurs, I will update if I see anymore:

    1. Windows 8 crashes after being in the mode 'sleep' - Microsoft Community

    2. brand new computer under Windows 8 - 2 accidents in first day - Microsoft Community

Why I write this here? Well, on the one hand, I can't find a place to contact HP and / r supports directly without really own a HP machine. So, with that said, two questions:

    1. is there a way to contact HP directly on this issue?

    2. is it and/or any other person with this specific model of HP's have this problem?

    Kind regards

    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,

This forum is mainly of volunteers, and HP has no official presence here.    I ask that your question is raised.  In the meantime, you or your client should open an official ticket with HP support.  These PC is still covered by the warranty.

HP support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.
