Equium L40 - cannot install Win XP

Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 and it has Vista on it normally, but I wanted to install XP on it.
So I did.

But there was a problem once I install it.
So I reinstall XP. But in the treatment, something was wrong and the computer turn off by itself.

I tried to reinstall, but when I try to start the Installation of XP DVD dvd station just stopped after the message control material.
I have also tried many other XP disks but none of them work. Ubuntu live cd still works.

If someone can please help me with this problem?

Hello

I guess you didn't install SATA drivers. Did you?
If the SATA drivers do not have were included then your Win XP does not recognize the HARD disk controller and would not see the HARD drive.

You must first install the drivers SATA (part of the Intel Storage Manager) and then to follow with the installation of Win XP OS.

I recommend reading a thread in the forum there are enough reviews about this theme

  • Cannot install Win 8 - Satellite Pro C660 does not detect HARD drive

    Hello

My HARD drive died, so I decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro C660 - 1 9 to an SSD.
I made a USB bootable with Win8 and starts very well.

The problem is that it does not detect my SSD, so I can proceed with the installation.
SSD appears in BIOS but not in Windows Installer.
He said that there is a missing driver.

I downloaded the AHCI drivers (XP, only ones available) and even in this case, after you have selected the only rider that appears, it says no new device found.

I tried to change the SATA from AHCI mode to compatibility mode and it's the same thing...

    What can I do?

    Thanks for the help.
    Best regards
    Bruno Moreira

More old Windows XP need a driver AHCI Intel's but I think this isn't a problem with SATA driver missing because as far as I know Windows 8 as well as Win 8.1 already contains the drivers to recognize the SSD or HARD disk drive.
In addition, the installation of the OS should be possible even if the driver would be added for this procedure, you must use the "compatibility" mode
As you say, the compatibility mode is not working too, so I think there is another problem.

However, page driver Toshiba also provides a driver Intel RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) (Windows 8 - updated) you can try to add during the installation of the OS.

But I m wondering if you would be able to install this Win 8 on common SATA HDD.
Have you tried to format the SSD using a different computer, then install Win 8?
    Give it a try.

    Hi mate

I know that you would not be able to install Win XP without previous installation of the SATA driver.
Another option might be changing the SATA mode in the BIOS
Go to BIOS and change SATA AHCI compatible mode mode.
Save the changes, and then try again to install Win XP.

PS: it s recommended using a Win XP with at least SP2 or SP3 disk

You must install the Intel Matrix Storage first Manager by using the external USB FDD drive.
If you don t have an external USB FDD drive and then use a freeware program called nLite.

If you n t know how to use the program nLite then google a bit. There are enough websites that explain how to use the nLite.

  • Equium A210 - cannot install ATI display driver

    Hiya,

I recently bought a satellite A210-171. It was pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium and partitioned into two drives C drive for Vista and E data drive. in any case I didn t like the way it was setup so I formatted the drive and installed Vista Ultimate on it.

Not to get a CD of drivers only a DVD of restoration system with it when I bought it and I had to get the drivers of Toshiba's download site and everything is fine until it came to install the display driver.

I downloaded the driver from the support of Toshiba (ATI) page and installed it restarted the laptop and the laptop didn't install the driver. So I went to the Device Manager and went to install the driver update driver and he won t install again. I'm 100% sure that I have the correct display driver, but whenever I try to install it, it the habit and said that the standard VGA graphics card is up to date. Someone at - it ideas how to install the display on this laptop driver because it has my head done now?

    John was soon.

I forgot to mention I also visited the ATI site and downloaded the driver and the app from here and still won t install correctly.

    Hello

Cannot install the original driver ATI from the page of ATI on a common path because it doesn't support protection against overheating as the own Toshiba GPU drivers.

You should be able to install it driver Toshiba ATI from the Toshiba page.
If the system is told that the standard VGA graphics card is up to date, then go to the Device Manager and remove the graphics driver installed the OS.

After restarting again, try to install the new GPU driver downloaded from the pilot site of Toshiba.

    Good luck and best regards

    I use an Equium L40.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Hello

I don't really know what you're doing wrong. The fact is that WLAN card must be turned on in the same way on all Toshiba laptops.

At the first switcher WLAN to on the situation and after doing this light WLAN must be turned on. After you do this using FN + F8 key combination and make sure that the WIFI is enabled.

So now you should be able to use the wireless network on your laptop card. Open ConfigFree application and choose RADAR to locate the WLAN in your area.
I do the same on several laptops at home (old and new models).

I tried 4 times to install win 10

    3 times from Microsoft updates

Once the download tool with the media

It downloads ok (win 10) then I get the Setup screen with the big circle and the percentage in it

This files copy ok, and then restart the computer, then the installation continues and is now features drivers installation, that's fine, computer restarts again and should complete part 3, what configuration settings, the dell logo comes up then screen goes black, I waited an hour and it remained black no cursor showing

After the time, which I turned off it and on again once he said to try to recover the installation, the screen went black, waited half an hour, nothing.

It turned off again and after the logo dell, that said, restore a previous version of windows

    I tried 4 times

It will not complete the installation.

With the media the message tool download was "installation failed in the phase of second_boot with an error during the start operation.

My computer is an Inspiron 17 (7737) earning 8.1 64-bit, dell said that it is up to date

This could well be the culprit.

Personally, I will no longer try upgrading to Win10 until I can update my BIOS.

Note: I tried to format the hard drive and also tried to install winxp on win vista, same problem same error.

    Thanks for help.

    Hello

You was not able to install the Windows operating system because you have not installed the SATA drivers that are needed to recognize the new SATA HDD controller.
The SATA drivers are part of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager.

You can build an own Windows disc using nLite software and might include drivers SATA on this CD.

I recommend research and read the forum discussions related this topic.
There is a lot of discussion on the same topic!

  • Satellite Z930-14F - cannot install Win 8.1 SCCM 2012 R2 environment

    Hi all

Series laptops Z Sattelite impossible to install OS (win 8.1) of our SCCM 2012 R2 environment.

No installation or pxe boot interrupted error is shown.
The environment is used in order to correctly install the operating system (win 8.1) on various other seller computers (dell) and the VMS (hyper-v and vmware).

I tried boot UEFI and CMS options and tried to turn off the secure boot. Please advice.

Also, I read on the 'package to install SCCM for Toshiba. This will help in my situation or it's just the driver for SCCM packages?

    Best regards, Evgeny.

I assume you mean on this package from Toshiba:
    http://www.Toshiba.EU/services/on-demand/business-computing/sdp120gs-v/

I put t have much experience using this drive package SCCM, but it is certainly compatible with professional Toshiba laptops. The Satellite / Portege Z930 belong to the range of the company, and I think that the package must be compatible.
This package seems to be for all administrators that manage devices on the network of business with SCCM 2012 R2. Toshiba offers with the new SCCM Toshiba package a solution to integrate other laptop to an existing IT infrastructure quickly and smoothly and all the Driver from Toshiba and application packages and a demonstration task sequence are integrated.

However, it seems that you could get more details about this package directly from Toshiba [email protected]

By the way: The Win 8.1 installation requires the UEFI mode (in which case the UEFI BIOS is available). But the start of another external source requires the secure boot disabled option.
Then maybe you should use the UEFI mode but must clear the safe boot option to boot from LAN.

  • Satellite U400 - 14 p PSU44E: cannot install Win XP - black screen

    Hello

    I bought a Toshiba U400 - 14 p (i-e-U400-PSU44E) a few weeks and I can not install XP on it.

I boot with a cd XP (tweak with nlite where I added my AHCI drivers and SP3). But at startup time, the system tells me that will attempt to recognize my hardware and then I have a screen_ _dark
I don't have the blue screen where I can press F6 to install the SATA driver.

So that's what I tried to solve my problem:

    -Flash bios => same thing
-Boot with an external cd usb => same thing
-Made a lot of tweak XP cd with SP2, SP3 wathever => same thing
-Sacrifice a chicken and asking the old spirit of help-online the same thing: D :D

_Some tell me I'm a tattooed bios_ how can I get around this?

I try to boot with a usb floppy again. Because I have no one and it is so vast!

Guess that's it's the same thing. It will be hard to swallow :(

    Thank you for your help.

    Hello

    > I boot with a cd XP (tweak with nlite where I added SP3 and my AHCI drivers
Can I ask you what you used SATA drivers?

I have a U400 to and Win XP has been installed without any problem of bug.
The Intel Matrix Storage Manager contains all the necessary SATA files which should be integrated into the XP CD.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 PS460E - cannot install Win XP

Since there are 2 variants of numbers on this laptop, am confused abit as forums to post on, appologise if I am wrong again.

Am pretty much run out of idea what could be the problem, so in a last effort to try to solve this problem, I thought to post it here.

I have a Toshiba SP4600 series (model PS460E), I went to format and reinstall a fresh XP install, it has now got a new 60gig IDE HARD drive, currently only 128meg ram, as it is not easy to find, and I did not belive he can handle a lot of anways.

To start the automatic windows boot from the CD-ROM drive, it crosses all pretty fine, you see all the options of drivers loading etc. at the bottom of the screen. He then came to the "Setup starts Windows' and just hangs, does not move, do not disable, does nothing, just stay on that screen and nothing else, the CD-Rom and HARD drive seem to just stop as well.

The HARD drive has been replaced as it had an old 20gig I thought could have been the problem.

I used a large number of diagnostic tools, to test the memory, hard drive, card mother/etc, the only one who crashed out bombed was a stress test version that starts ok, then 15 minutes crashses, so not sure it would be.

No idea how to fix this?

as am enough out of all atm ideas :/

    > The HARD drive has been replaced as it had an old 20gig I thought could have been the problem.
Did the same problem occurs using the old 20 GB HARD drive?
If the same thing happened with the smaller HARD drive so I guess that this problem is NOT related to a HARD disk, but in another part

Eventually he s a RAM who knows
In many cases the RAM can be the problem when the laptop do not answer...

    What temperature?
Have you noticed a temperature higher coming or warm air from the vents?
The laptop seems to be old, maybe the cooling modules are dirty and cannot cool the processor properly?
In such cases, it s advisable to clean the fan using a jet of compressed air

In any case, I think you should also test the laptop with other RAM modules
