error 80200053
I've upgraded to Windows 7 only recently after recurring problems with Windows updates. I use Microsoft Office 2007 Student version and some updates are not installed constantly:
Viewer PowerPoint 2007 SP2
Microsoft Office Suite SP2
Microsoft Office Compatibility SP2
Error code 80200053
I have validated my version of Microsoft Office.
I have run the fix it tool.
I tried clean reboot.
I tried to manually download the SP2 for Office.
Everything I try I always get the message of the unknown Publisher and the installation isn't even start or fails in the middle of the process.
I don't know if it's related, but at the same time I have problems with liveupdate for Norton Internet Security 2010 omitting all two days. Symantec technical support spent hours trying to reinstall NIS, they sent me a disc that I install, after that 2 days Liveupdate has not yet the end. Symantec say it's because the Windows updates fail?
I had exactly the same problems with Vista for 3 months, there is no solution. After picking up a virus that took over the computer completely, in final desperation, I decided to upgrade to Windows 7. And I'm going again with problems.
Could someone please suggest a solution? I contacted Microsoft technical support by e-mail, and they sent the standard "search for a solution here and there" answer.
Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!
HOW to do a clean install of Win7: see "using the custom installation option" and formatting the hard drive section of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7
Note: If the computer came with a set of disks, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install. If you need more assistance, expert in this forum can help you: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/threads
Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before otherwise connect the machine to the internet or a local network (i.e. other computers) and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:
4 steps to help protect your new computer before going online
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/pypc.aspx
NB: The free trial Norton which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the Norton Removal Tool before installing any updates and before installing your new anti-virus application.
Speaking of which, I can recommend that you install Microsoft Security Essentials (free) as your new application anti-virus/anti-spyware: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx

Alternatively, once again the PCWorld computer and request a full refund... so take your business elsewhere (e.g., http://dell.com).

I tried to download and install the new update for windows 7, but I get an error every time. It's Windows 7 service Pack 1 for x 64 systems (KB976932). He gets 18% full and then said he could not be updated. The error Code is 80200053
I had this exact question and until I went under optional updates and installed the patch KB2285068 (Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2) and KB2488113 (certain day of random reliability), the Service Pack 1 update has failed every time. Once the updates have been applied SP1 successfully installed. I am on Windows 7 x 64. Someone at - there still the difficulty that should give a try.

Update KB951847 failed with the error code 80200053
Day before yesterday I did a reset (this was described to me, basically as a reformatting of all readers and a reinstallation of original software) on my desktop HP with Vista x 64. Yesterday, I was doing the Microsoft Updates (I think he had 101 in total which stood for me). All of the except KB951847 installed correctly. When he reached KB951847 it says it failed with the error code 80200053.
I read on another thread that security antivirus software or others could cause this problem, but I still have to install it all because I read that it can interfere with some updates from Microsoft.
If anyone has solutions, I would be very grateful.

I'm running Windows7 and have attempted to download/install Windows 10. The Windows 10 download/install fails with error code 80200053. Troubleshooting Windows Update product unresolved error code 80070057. How should I proceed?
OT:
Installation of Windows 10
I think that this error has something to do with the Windows updates blocking antivirus.
Try this:
(1) disable the anti-virus and all others no essential programs
(2) type in services.msc RUN which will take you to the 'services' and search for Windows Installer mine has been set to manual so leave it put there and just start it
(3) now, run windows update and wait for your window installed correctly
(4) restart the computer
Let me know how it goes!

Windows 7 - error Code: 80200053 (cannot install KB2289161 & KB890830)
Nothing has changed on my computer - has received a notification of new updates to download and install this morning and got this error. Restarted the computer, still the same error. The strange thing is that Windows will download updates and seems to not even try to install them before the error appears. Usually with mistakes in the past, Windows will download and try to install, and comes up with an error. This error seems to be generated immediately once the download is complete. Tried to install two updates separately to see if one or the other was the problem, but the two fail to install with error code when you try individually as well. Running Windows 7 x 64 ultimate.
1. see if you can download/run the malicious software removal tool manually: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830
2. also see if you can download/install KB2289161 manually: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=0b308508-0e1e-4e90-b2b8-7e32bfc5dbf4
If no joy, visit the Microsoft Solution Center and antivirus security for resources and tools to keep your PC safe and healthy. If you have problems with the installation of the update itself, visit the Microsoft Update Support for resources and tools to keep your PC updated with the latest updates.
