It is possible that you don't need a Windows XP installation CD. Assuming your laptop has a hidden restore partition, you can use the program "PC Restore by Symantec" from Dell. For more information, see page 73 of this manual:

http://support.Dell.com/support/eDOCS/systems/ins8500/en/8600cr/OM/D77111LRs.PDF

Which will return the laptop to its original state.

The only version of Windows, you can upgrade from XP is Vista. If you
want to go to the 7, 8, 8.1, or 10, you must do a clean install,
    not an upgrade.

Note also that if you old computer same peut run a later version, the
the material on your XP - era machine is probably way underpowered to run a
newer version with acceptable performance. So moving to a later
version is not a good idea.

And another point: If you upgrade to a later version, you may need
drivers for it are not available. So before you do anything check
availability of the reader on the Dell web site.

Mr. Ken Blake, thank you very much for your quick response. I understand the concerns regarding an upgrade. So I continue to run the same Windows XP with SP3 until the machine functions

  • Dell Inspiron 1721 Win 7 ultimate upgrade on Vista ultimate. ATI Raid driver problems.

I install Win 7 Ultimate on Windows Vista Ultimate Edition for my sister.  Although I am appalled by his duty to pay 200 more of the money it has paid to buy Vista Ultimate (for which she won Bitlocker and the possibility to join the areas, I have the following problem: she has a lot to gain a little and there are still problems in the installation of the OS.)  It would be good, at least, since it paid the price to have copies of the disks him were sent and more download (which I work with)

I am trying to install the upgrade from 32-bit to Windows 7 on my laptop Dell Inspiron 1721 and I get an error that says I need to update my ATI AHCI Compatible RAID Driver. I went into the device drivers update as described in the instructions and tried to update the driver but it says I have the latest version of the driver for it. So I tried to restart my laptop and represented the upgrade installation and received the same error message.

Can you advise me on how to solve the problem.  She has spent a lot of money and, at least, deserves to make it work!

Well, tell me how it works,

I have dell inspiron 15z with 500 GB hard drive with laptop want to exchange it to 120 GB ssd, but I can't because no media to reinstall and the whole system is on hard Bank...

I tried to do with software usb recovery dell preinstaled originally, but when I start to install the ssd system it gives me the error message that the new hard disk must be at least 465 GB

I tried to copy the partition that I tried to do the recovery with another software image, it simply does not. When I tried to install win from another cd that he refuses the number series, even when I used the same version. instead of this test of dell to kill my mood why don't they have just not preparing the software backup and restore Dell to facilitate the use and for SSDS too?

I would gladly appreciate any help

    Hi Thomiq,

The backup and restore software would seek similar configuration during the restoration. If the hardware is changed the original image may not work.

At this point, I see that you will need the operating system disc to reinstall it on the SSD drive. • Intel Centrino Advanced - N 6205 WLAN causing blue screen (BSOD) on Elitebook 8570w Win 7 SP1 64 bit

    Hello world

In recent months, I use a 8570w Elitebook.

I can't tell you when the problem started, but as soon as I unplug the notebook from the power supply and WLAN is enabled, I get a blue screen after a while. Sometimes, but not this oftehn, I encounter this problem even when the laptop is connected to the power and WLAN is enabled.

I could not determine when exactly this blue screen, but it's certainly the WLAN (Bluetooth is disabled in the BIOS for the moment). It happens most of the time when I'm under two or more virtual machines with VMWare Workstation (version 9.0.2).

The WIFI card is an Intel Centrino Advanced - N 6205. I tried several drivers (mid-2012 at the latest in April 2013) with a complete uninstall of the previous drivers. Without success. Operating system is Win 7 SP1 64 bit.

Google helped me a bit and I found an Intel forum where people are describing almost the same problem with these Intel WLAN modules.

Checked the Knowledge Base of HP and I am just find more messages do not deal with the new modules.

Should I consider replacing the WLAN (guarantee) card? Someone knows the same issue and was able to find a solution/workaround?

    All opinions are appreciated.

    Thank you
    Jerry

    Hello world

Finally, I have launched the Intel WLAN module and replaced by a Broadcom module (HP spare part number: 669832-001, Broadcom model: BCM943228HM4L) with the driver version: 6.30.223.228 (05.02.2014).

This solved my problem of blue screen. Intel (same as last) drivers do not work with the configuration I have on my Elitebook 8570w and I gave up to find an another software/driver associated solution. In recent weeks, I can run multiple virtual machines in VMWare (9.0.4) without problems.

Hope this information is of help to anyone who is struggeling with the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 WLAN module.

    Cheers, Jerry

A month back, I bought a dell inspiron 13 7368. The touch screen of the last three days works randomly. Were not able to understand the problem. • Screen problem Dell Inspiron 7537

I bought my Dell Inspiron 7537 last year only to use it for 7 months before the part of my screen went completely black. There are like 3 or 4 black lines which became bigger and bigger by the day. It was still in warranty, so I took my laptop to my dealer. Its been almost 5 months, my dealer told me that Dell refused to send a replacement screen first. When Dell decided to send a screen it was the wrong. Reference Dell claims now that they don't have the type of screen that needs my model and I have to wait, like 5 months is not enough. I tried to contact Dell without a bit of luck. I hope that get answers here or something. Sorry for my English is not my mother tongue.

Also, is anyone else having the same problem? My dealer told me that they had the same problem with the same model and once again, Dell would not send them a replacement screen.

History: I just bought a laptop / Tablet Dell Inspiron 7347 (exchanged for another unit, see below).   Problems to maintain a strong connection and when connected, it is very slow.   When it is connected to the wireless router, it maintains a (slow) connection for 3-5 minutes and then craps out (restrict the connection with the yellow "!" on the WiFi in the taskbar).  He then returned to the top of 1 3 minutes later.  It's a coherent continuous cycle.  I tried to reset the default router with no luck.

All the other devices on this router (office, phone, IPad) all hold the connection without problem at the same time, this device is not.

Notable: Before I bought this tablet/laptop I bought an Acer Aspire tablet / laptop which had exactly the same problem on my network.  I returned the unit for other reasons (quality of construction etc.), but he had the same OS (Win 8.1).  I don't know if she had the same network adapter.

What I tried: cycling the router - cycling the modem - router the default factory reset of small animals - U-APSD deactivation on the network card - slapping me hard - offering to the gods...

    I'm puzzled.   Makes me CRAZY!

FIXED!   Check it out guys.   I'm bothering with deactivation of all the resources of the card network, add-ins etc in the hope of this narrowing... including Bluetooth.   I have a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse for the comfort sculpt ([View:www.microsoft.com/.../sculpt-comfort-mouse:550:0])

I turned off and BOOM... everything was fine.   Also, I noticed when it was powered up, the speedtest would plunge drastically when I actually moved the mouse during the test.   See below for the result of the test with the mouse.   I can't post a with the mouse on because the test wouldn't even with it on.

Hmmmm... so it turns out that it could be a problem with a product from Ms... go figure.

  • White white screen on Dell Inspiron 15 - N5030

    Hello world

I am trying to solve this problem with my wife's cell phone and its really frustrating. His Dell Inspiron N5030 and it's just more than a year. Unfortunately the 1 year warranty expired and this problem started to arrive in 2-3 months. The problem is, when you start the laptop, it has a complete blank white screen. I read quite a number of messages autour and many have suggested that it is usually a video cable connection, or a bad video cable of the lcd screen or a problem with the motherboard. I will explain the steps that I've done so far and I hope someone here can guide me on what I can do next to fix this.

First of all, when this problem started happening, it was very unpredictable. Which means that, sometimes, the laptop starts fine but sometimes white screen appears. But as the weeks went by, the white screen begins to appear more frequently, and now it appears all the time. That's what I found so far:

    (1) when you connect an external monitor, the external monitor works fine. The strange thing is, sometimes when I connect the external monitor, disappears from the white screen of the laptop and the screen lcd laptop starts to work again. I got this as a workaround for some time. Whenever the white screen appears, I connect the external monitor and remove it when the screen of the laptop working again. But eventually it stopped working as well.

    (2) when the white screen started coming all the time, I noticed that the problem goes away when I remove the outer cover of the screen. (the black frame around the screen that can be removed by pulling the top of the screen).

    (3) last week, I removed the LCD and taken apart to see if there was any loose connection at the back. I noticed there is no loose connection and the inverter was very good as well. However, I noticed that the black (video cable) cord that connects the back of the lcd screen to the motherboard was sorta stuck around the hinge area. I corrected this cord so its properly seated and made sure that the outside frame does not grow this rope to the hinge when I set everything again. When I did this, the laptop started to work very well for next week without problem but now the white screen started to reappear!

So, based on what I've seen, I think that the cord is blocked around the hinge and therefore to cause this problem. But I'm not a techinical person and don't know if its correct. It's just a guess... So I don't know what I'm doing then? This means that the video cable is drunk or is just blocking on the hinge at the origin of this problem? What I need to change the complete lcd video cable or is there another solution by moving this cord away from the hinge to fix this from happening? What I try next?

I appreciate all help and thank you for taking the time to read my post.

    Hello world

Here's an update on the solution of this problem with screens white white. I finally fixed it, and this time I know for sure that this problem is definitely solved.

First of all many thanks to "randypittes" for first of all the solution and share with all the world. Much obliged!

After setting up with this problem white screen for several months, I finally bought the "LCD video cable" on ebay and he succeeded. Its been 2 weeks now that I changed the cable and the problem re does not! I wanted to give him two weeks first and see if the problem comes back again until I jump into conclusion and now that my laptop works perfectly again, I know for a fact that this problem is probably resolved.

So, those of you experience the same problem, do the same thing. First of all start by replacing the LCD video cable and this should fix the white screen issue. He me $20 encrypted only on ebay (including delivery in sydney) and it is a much cheaper option than to try to replace the screen itself. If this does not work for you, then you can look into other options. But I would say, this solution should solve most of the white screen issues you may encounter.

Here is a guide that I put in place about how I went to change my video cable in my laptop. I don't know that it can be useful to other beginners like me:

Step 1: first of all, make sure that first download you the manual of your laptop. Google simply your laptop model and you should be able to find the manual for it on how to replace its parts, etc... It's really convenient when getting started.

Step 2: Check out this video on how to remove the screws around the LCD and how to get to the video cord to the back of the LCD:

    cs_setInnerHtml ('video_8efdced1-828d-4463-b632-022776eb4f65', ");

Step 3: Check the downloaded Reference Dell manual and see how to remove the screws on the laptop base and how to remove the:

    (a) is based

    (b) keyboard.

Step 4: once you remove the palmrest and keyboard access to the motherboard with the video cable is connected.

Step 5: Replace the cable and reassemble everything to the way it was.

It's her! And good luck to all! You need... :-)

    without a doubt

  • How can I disable a scrollbar on my new Dell Inspiron w/Win 7.

On my Dell Inspiron N5050 using the touchpad I put the pointer over the scroll bar on the Web im viewing page.  I double touch to catch the trail of bar... then to the bottom of the page, when I shoot pointer drop the bar to select a link, or whatever and I propose, for example, left on the scroll bar with the pointer, the page immediately rises to the top.  I want to take the pointer off the scroll bar without her to do this, you must double tap again on it to exit this mode.  My laptop (MX6453) gateway win XP never had this type of problem when using the touchpad for dragging a scroll bar in Explorer windows or internet explore.   Please tell me how to disable this property.  I noticed that when I drag the scroll bar by using the left button to enter, and then drag the bar using a finger on the button to scroll, the pointer is not stayed vertically attached to it in a virtual sense... and I could pass the pointer over the scroll to the part of the page bar I wanted to put the pointer on when I release the button that I leave the bar, and it is very natural.  Sometimes it is nice to be able to use the touch pad to drag and without the scroll buttons, but it sucks when you have to double tap down the scroll bar in the virtual sense.  Am I the only one who has this annoying problem?

    Hello

    1. doesn't this problem occurs only with the particular application or other applications?

2 did you change on your computer?

You can follow the steps below and check if it helps to turn off the touchpad scrolling feature.

    (a) click Start and click on Control Panel.

    (b) in the control panel select display small iconsor large icons.

    (c) click on mouse and navigate to the following location: device settings > Synaptic touchpad > settings > virtual scrolling > uncheck "enable vertical scrolling" option.

    (d) check if it helps you to disable the touchpad scrolling.

If the steps above do not help, you may need to contact dell support to check if they have any parameters or function keys to disable the touchpad scrolling feature.
