Error: "CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode" while trying to perform the disk check

: Title real: my backup is suddenly not recognized in Windows 7

A backup I use regularly is currently not recognized - I went through several pages of suggestions without deleting the instructions to format the drive. I did chkd sk/p/r suggestions with this result:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

F: C:\Windows\System32>CHKDSK

The type of the file system is NTFS.

Volume label is Micron disc for backup.

CAVEAT! F parameter not specified.

Running CHKDSK in read-only mode.

CHKDSK checks the files (step 1 of 3)...

11520 file records processed.

Finished files checking.

11 big folder files.

0 incorrect file records processed.

0 EA records processed.

0 analysis of the cases handled.

CHKDSK is checking the index (step 2 of 3)...

53 percent. (12004 index entries processed 11514)

Error detected in the $I30 for 5 file index.

Error detected in the $I30 for 5 file index.

12004 index entries processed.

Index verification completed.

Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode.

Then I tried to reassign the drive letter of the F to h: the display shows the file system is "RAW and the status is healthy, etc."  He doesn't see this as a NTFS format, even if the chkdsk identified it in this way with the correct volume lable, so I know it was to see the right player.  I almost all still on my coomputer - this backup is material that I could go back more old backup drives, but it's the best version of consolicated of my automatic backups of Win 7, so I didn't it wouldn't be pretty.  Am I out of luck?  Is this drive Kaput

and should I give up on this?

Thank you

Hello
I suggest you contact the manufacturer of the USB to the backup drive then try formatting the USB and check if the problem persists.

    Hello Rayzorexe,

Thanks for the response back.  You are able to start your computer and get the recovery options?  From there, you can run "Command Prompt" and I want to know if you are able to run Chkdsk from there successfully.

Are you the same response from the commands below:

Type 'chkdsk e:' in the command prompt. Press 'Enter' to run the utility to check the disk in read-only mode. He locates errors but does not fix the

Enter 'chkdsk e:/f' in the command prompt. Press 'Enter' to run the disk check and correct errors without analyzing bad sectors.

Type 'chkdsk e:/r' in the command prompt, press 'Enter' to do a thorough analysis of the sectors and files and repair any problems found.

I read it could be a problem with corrupt blocks. I'm not familiar with MXL and I read that there are commands that I could run. Someody could give me a help?

    Kind regards

IBH errors when there is an incompatibility between the .pag file and the index file (.ind). In other words the file pag and .ind file are not synchronized.

I'm running Windows XP sp3 on a Dell with 2 GB of ram. The corrupted file is located in a disk Seagate Expansion (E).

You should run chkdsk /f (to correct), or chkdsk/r (to repair).  If this is not the case, no repairs will be preformed.

A few weeks ago another backup problem followed a clean boot Advisor do not understand warnings lost a lot of files, but managed to finish the backup and for a few weeks or if weekly backups on my acer aspire was dandy until this week. On the way to this site saw an ad "fix windows errors by downloading this program. I wonder if these ads are genuine and not a virus or malware. you will advise me on how to go about these sorts of things. Thanking you in advance.

    Hi Jamshid,

I understand the inconvenience that this may cause.

This problem could occur due to the corruption of system file by the program that you downloaded.

The fixit or any program you download on the internet could be a source of pollution. It is not recommended to install the advertising programs.

To resolve this problem, I would like you go to control panel and remove the program downloaded.

Here is the link to remove the program.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/uninstall-change-program#uninstall-change-program=Windows-7

You can also use the System File Checker scan to remove the corrupt files.

SFC (System File Checker) is a tool that scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

See the following article for more information on using SFC tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

To ensure that your computer is virus-free and spyware, run a scan online using the link below.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Keep us informed on the status of the issue. We will be happy to help you.

  • Can pin is more than anything in the start screen. Got the file missing error while trying to perform the refresh

    Original title: pine to start

I can pin is no longer something to the Windows 8 RT start screen. I tried to update my PC and I can ' t, he says I have missing files. How can I solve the problem?

    Hello again from LiseMcDougall.,.

You can try this: go to settings/general/PC settings, scroll down and find refresh your PC without affecting your files (Refresh). If your PC will not perform a refresh, you might need to perform a reset (the next option down), where it says delete all and then reinstall Windows. Make sure the RT device is plugged into a power outlet.
