Error code: 80070017 every time I try to install Windows Explorer 8

Remember - this is a public forum so never post private information such as numbers of mail or telephone!

Ideas: Please help me. I have Vista Home Premium 32 - bit SP2... and have tried for 3 days to install windows explorer 8 without success. I keep getting the error code: 80070017 windows update encountered an unknown error. What happened when I tried to install SP2 as well but was able to have it installed last night.

  • You have problems with programs: windows update Setup explore 8, it downloads but will not install!
  • Error messages: update code 80070017 windows has encountered an unknown error.
  • Recent changes made to your computer: no
  • What you have already tried to solve the problem: I tried everything what I found on social nets, as the closure of spyware, run the chkdsk tool, rename the download folder, I can't get rid of temporary files... and so on... Please help if you have more suggestions, I'm not so much worried, but there are sites on what I need to do my job. and they say that I need to improve my windows Explorer... Be precise with steps, I'm not very computer saavy! obviously... any help would be appreciated

Well, you use an old laptop of 8 years with a 11 year old operating system - it takes a little go extra step to get things.

I guess you all hardware from the manufacturer drivers so that everything works?  You can verify that you have the latest versions by visiting manually from the manufacturer web page, support and drivers section and go through at least the most important... chipset motherboard, video, audio, network, etc.

    After that...

Have you installed the Service Packs again?

Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]

    Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

    Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).

    Install it.

    Reset.

    Now try to get updates.

    Hello

Please follow the links below to solve the problem.

    Method 1

Start your computer in a clean boot

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Make sure that you follow step 7 of the article mentioned above to set the Normal upward Start computer after troubleshooting is completed.

Once the computer is in a clean boot state try install updates.

    Method 2

Disable your antivirus software and firewall

    Step 1

    Disable the Antivirus software
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Hi MatthewMessmer,

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. You receive the error message when you try to install a program on the computer?
    3. You have security software installed on the computer?

    Method 1

First restart the computer and try to install programs on the computer.

I suggest that you restart the Windows Installer service and check if it helps.

Refer to the article below and try the steps listed in the section Windows installation problems, check to see if it helps.

How to troubleshoot issues that may occur when you install, uninstall, or upgrade one program on a Windows computer

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2438651

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then temporary disable the security software on the computer and check if that helps.

Important: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. • error every time I try to install itunes

I tried to install itunes on my computer, but it keeps coming up that an error has been encountered refractory instalation and run again or press on finish I ran it over and over again but the same error keeps coming up I need help

Use "Revo Uninstaller" (* download the trial version that you can make a more complete/aggressive withdrawal) to LFR completely all Apple products (iTunes, Quicktime, etc.) it's may already be on your system.  I suggest to use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall itself when you're done, if you do not plan to buy it.

    Restart the system.

Do a thorough cleaning and updating your system...

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find.  Reboot when necessary.  (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in.  Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.)  You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory.  This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.
