Error during resizing of vmdk in VMWare Fusion 3.1.1

I have a Windows 7 virtual machine that had a 20 GB, designated as the single disk vmdk. I wanted to resize to 40 GB so I stop the machine, went

for the parameters of the virtual machine and set the new size (with the disk to preallocate space / split into 2GB files on options).

During resizing a popup of error is displayed with the following message:

The called function can only be performed on partial strings. Please open the virtual disk parent.

Once this message, the drive no longer appears in the settings of the virtual machine; If I try to re add the vmdk file, VMWare simply hangs after selecting it in the open file dialog box.

I tried to check the disk with the following command:

/Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Fusion/vmware-vdiskmanager -R seven.vmdk
No errors were found on the virtual disk, 'seven.vmdk'.

If I try to clone the drive, I get this error:

$ /Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Fusion/vmware-vdiskmanager -r seven.vmdk -t 0 seven2.vmdk
Creating disk '/Volumes/ScratchMyBak/Users/fabiocorneti/seven2.vmdk'
Failed to convert disk: The called function cannot be performed on partial chains. Please open the parent virtual disk (0x500003e83).

The same error is reported in more detail in the log file attached; the lines in question are these:

Is it possible to fix the vmdk?

Sorry I had not had my coffee yet and missed the following...

The next section in the original seven.vmdk file looked like at...

# Disk DescriptorFile
version=1
encoding="UTF-8"
CID=00000000
parentCID=00000000
isNativeSnapshot="no"
createType="twoGbMaxExtentSparse"

It should have looked like...

# Disk DescriptorFile
version=1
encoding="UTF-8"
CID=fffffffe
parentCID=ffffffff
isNativeSnapshot="no"
createType="twoGbMaxExtentFlat"

Try the new version of the attached file seven.vmdk.

  • 10.9.2 upgrade - failure of the "internal error" when you try to start vmware fusion

    Everything worked well even after 10.9.2 upgrade and then all of a sudden, I get an internal error and cannot start.

    Cause I think that lie in the osx system log: /var/log/system.log

    Here are 2 mistakes of the system log which I believe are responsible for this internal error message - I need to know what they mean and how do I workaround:

    These errors are generated in the system log when I click Start on the vmware fusion GUI:

    At least it worked.

  • resize boot camp partition, formatted and installed windows 7 - now cannot open in vmware fusion

    Here are the steps that I took...

    1 has started with the copy of Windows XP in the boot camp partition. "This is accessible from VMWare Fusion."

    2 resized (from 6 GB to 18 GB) and formatted the boot camp partition.

    3 successfully installed Windows 7 directly in the resized partition boot camp (not through VMWare Fusion).

    4. starts in OSX (latest version), open VMWare Fusion and attempted to access the partition to boot camp/vm. Received an error message charging me to disassemble and reassemble the physical disk changes. However, since I did it, he cannot find a bootable disc, therfore making it the useless bootcamp VM.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Paul

    Note: These steps assume that you have a default Apple installation of Windows and a VMware Fusion Boot Camp Virtual Machine default partition and if you changed the Boot Camp partition the Virtual Machine to add additional hard disks to be virtual or RAW disk then do not use these instructions unless you backup the Boot Camp partition the Virtual Machine package first.

    1. If the merger is open, close it.

    2. in a Terminal (/ Applications/Utilities/Terminal) copy and paste command, as the following and then press Enter and it will remove the Boot Camp Virtual Machine meta-data partition. Note: This does not affect the Boot Camp partition to install Windows. Also make sure that you copy the entire command below "rm" line at the beginning of the ' (quote) after the p in the Camp. "

    RM - dfr "/Users/$ the specified item was not found./Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines / Boot Camp."

    3. start Fusion (/ Applications/VMware Fusion) and select the Boot Camp partition on the library of the Virtual Machine window, and then click the run button.

    Notes: Then, an authentication dialog box appears. "VMware Fusion requires that you type your password." Enter your name and password, and then click OK. (It is necessary to remove the Boot Camp for the merge partition to access it directly).

    Then, we should see a Boot Camp partition message stating "VMware Fusion prepares your Boot Camp partition to run as a virtual machine. This may take a few minutes. This occurs once. »

    When the virtual partition Boot Camp Machine starts for the first time after this VMware Tools may want or will install/update and restart the virtual partition Boot Camp Machine.

I can't resize the desktop in full screen to match the virtual computer screen. I have not had any problems with the Office Win 8.1 in VMWare Fusion 6. Which setting I'm missing? Thank you

    Hello

    Uninstall VMware tools

    Restart your guest operating system

    Install VMware Tools

    Restart your guest operating system

    Normally this should be it.

    Please note that a Windows repair install is not likely going to remedy.

    By clicking < report... > generates the report

    Clicking on < reboot Windows > hangs the system.

    Various VMware Fusion, Virtual Machine commands do nothing.

    Again, only way I found to get there is to Apple, Force Quit of VMware Fusion.

    Two systems in question, iMac and MacBook.

    Familiar to anyone else?

    Details: =.

    The two systems were very well work well on several years.

    Status of starting point was.

    -iMac and MacBook running VMware without any problems for several years.

    -This includes several updates to Mac OS and VMware Fusion.

    -OS X 10.9.5 on both systems with the latest upgrades.

    -VMware Fusion 6 on all systems with the latest upgrades.

    -Virtual Machines on two almost identical systems - Windows 7, all derivatives of a VM database.

    Problem started only on iMac.

    In weeks, with the encouragement of support VMware and Apple have updated to Yosemite, installed VMware Fusion 7 and built Windows 8.1 scratch machines.

    Problem now happening on both systems with MacBook, stay alive for about 15 minutes and iMac may be several hours.

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • Error at startup of the sound stream, VMware Fusion 5, Cougar, Windows 7

    I'm nearing the end of my evaluation period of 30 days of VMWare Fusion 5, running Mountain Lion & Windows 7.  I get an error message: "Error starting sound stream."  The sound seems normal.  Before that I have to purchase the full version, I thought I'd better determine what effect this can have.  Any ideas?

    Hello

    I know that this answer is probably passed your test of VMware.

    I had the same problem, Widnows 7 VM and the same error message. To fix, update the version of VMware Tools.

    This solution may not work for all cases, but it worked for me

  • VMware Fusion 3.0.1 update error (the connection to the update server has been lost)

    Hello

    I tried to update my vmware fusion many times, but I get this error message. I'm sure that is not because of my connection because I was running OSX update at the same time and I was able to update my OS x without any problems. VMware actually stopped the 3.0.1 update because they are a lot of bugs or there is something else, what happens to me laptop. BTW, I use a 2.8 Ghz MBP.

    See you soon

    Instead of updating through the Fusion program, try to download the package install .dmg and upgrading in this way.  Go to http://www.vmware.com/download/fusion , scroll down and get information, then download the full version (415 MB) or the Light version (170 MB, less AV and some tools).   The light version can download additional items later if necessary (I hope).

    Additional information can be found here http://communities.vmware.com/thread/165070

    It seems to be related to the beta version, which I also noticed you were running 2.0.2 beta.

    You might want to take a look at this thread and options here or as we now 2.0.5 you can also consider uninstalling 2.0.2 beta and try to install 2.0.5.
