  • Activation key valid only for the update

I'll try to be brief... I have the battle with a nasty virus that, until I got rid of him, did a lot of registry changes.  Even though I got rid of the virus, affects after having required that I do a new install.  One of the changes the virus made to the registry has prevented the normal installation process see the C: drive.  It was visible in my computer, but when you went to manage disks, it wasn't there while the program had nowhere to live.

I tried everything I could think of, but in the end, I had to boot from the CD to get the course of the installation.  When I entered my key, he said that it was not valid for an upgrade and installation not complete.  I went ahead anyway because it was the only option I had.  After all, the PC OEM supplied with XP and I paid for the upgrade, then, what is the difference.

So... what should I do at this point?  My activation key is only valid for an upgrade, not a full install.

  • I format my PC and have the product ID, but not the activation key

    Hello people,

As the question says I have format my computer forgetting to pick up my activation key. I did, however, recover my product ID before formatting the device. The installed copy of Windows was previously purchased through the Express upgrade.
I know that, as a general rule, it is impossible to get this key to return, but is it possible since I have the product ID and the same defined material? Please advice.

Product ID is for customer support, cannot help regarding the activation of the software.

Will send me you a confirmation email with my product key?

Yes. An e-mail containing your product key will be sent to the e-mail address associated with your Windows Live ID account or e-mail address you provided if you ignored the account configuration. Note: If you use an email tool or spam blocker spam filter, be sure that you can receive e-mail messages from microsoft.com.

What happens if I lose my product key?

If you lose your product key, you can return to www.windows7.com/getkey and sign in using the "Sign In" link in the upper right of the page. This will allow to recover your product key if you have established your account with your Windows Live ID. If you do not configure a Windows Live ID account initially there is no record of your online product key. Check your e-mail since it is the only trace of your product key.

  • Help. I could not find activation key for MS7 so bought the new version, but cannot install the new version as system thinks old version it

How to uninstall and reinstall, or fix this problem.  I hope I didn't just buy new software I can't use :)  Thank you.

Is identical to the old version new version, which means, are of the same edition?

For example, is a copy of Windows 7 installed on Windows 7 Home Premium machine in addition to the new copy you purchased?

Because, if they are, simply update the product key:

Click Start, right click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click on the link 'change product key '.

    Enter the product key

Click next to activate via the Internet.

If they are not the same, then you will need to do a custom installation, with the following exception.

If the new edition is greater than the current edition installed, then you can use the product key and upgrade to the new copy you purchased.

It should be higher if Starter > Home Basic > Home Premium > Professional > ultimate.

    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/26/Windows-7-anytime-upgrade-%E2%80%93-unlocking-more-benefits/

If it turns out to be something else, then you must use the new copy and do a custom installation:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:

    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

  • I have a valid license for Windows XP key code, so why the system tells me it is not currently active or real?

    Windows has no

I had to spend my PC this morning. Moving it, I decided to implement a new network card. When I reconnected it all the cables, I plugged my USB mouse on another USB port where it had been plugged in before. The computer is more than 7 years old and I've never had a problem with the front Windows Validation. I have a valid license for Windows XP key code, so why the system tells me it is not currently active or real?

When Windows checks to see if you have moved your copy of Windows to "another computer", among other things, that his focus on the identification of several strands of material in the computer to see if they are different than when Windows was first installed.  I do not remember the list for now, but I remember that the network card is one of the pieces - and IIRC it is 'valuable' higher than others to reach the conclusion.

You probably other elements has changed over the past seven years and now Windows has decided to have a "new" computer  Assuming that you haven't changed the motherboard - if you had, you would have had this issue at the time wherever you did--your installation is still legal.  Reactivate using your original license key. It should work online, but you will need to call the number that appears in the error message from re - validate.

OK guys, I'm all set, my sense of humor is back :) It took MS technical support some time (which made me feel less stupid) and they had to make a new key. It seems that when changes are made to certain machines that I upgraded was a Compaq Evo bios conflict there, it seems to be more prevalent in the 2002 version of XP Pro OEM.

Microsoft taken care of once I found the right number to call, so everything is good again. Thanks for your replies.

  • Product key valid not recognized during installation.

How to approach with a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on my laptop after a disk failure hard and replacement when the software tells me that the product key is not valid?  It's the same one I used as the program was purchased online directly from Microsoft?  The product key has been verified since the original email from Microsoft that have accompanied the purchase online.  The product key entry has been tried several times and verified as having been entered correctly.  However, the problem remains.

OT: Cannot activate win 8 on my laptop due to the change of hard disk.

    Hi all

I have a Samsung np550p5c-s05in and it came installed with 64-bit Windows 8, later, the hard drive developed a few problems and as I had guaranteed him, they were replaced by a new, but this one came with a victory 8 32-bit that is not enabled. Now, I got the product key of victory last 8 I had so I tried using them to activate, but an error came that said something like

"The key provided is not for this edition of windows,

Use the installer of windows 8 or enter an activation key 8 windows. »

So it was logical that the key I had was for a 64-bit win 8, so I installed win 8 64 bits of an image file and then I repeated the same procedure to enter the key and the same error came once again.

I would ask so you people to please help me with this, because I have no idea whatsoever what to do next.
