  I am the owner of a Satellite P20 S203 PSP20E-08J1Z-SL, who works with a CARPET * device DVD-RAM UJ-811.

  I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite P10 554 with XP SP2 and a carpet * a DVD-RAM UJ-811. The problem is that a lot of DVD - R (or DVD - RW) discs cannot be used for burning. If I try such a DVD with Nero a get the error message "disc not initialize - disc may default. Other DVD - r work on my computer.

  It's an update of the firmware of my DVD player. I currently use the H100 firmware version. Unfortionately I do not found any update of Web site (tried toshiba, mast * a, panasonic,...)

  Anyone have an idea how to solve the problem? Is perhaps firmware version top data? How do a get a new firmware?

  I can't find a more recent firmware, too! In my opinion, you should try some different DVD - R from other providers! If this does not resolve the problem then I think you should contact Toshiba Service partner for the NB of a short health check!

  If you have the DVD burner that can burn DVD-R with a speed x 2 there is no way to improve the speed of burning at 4 x speed.

  What system do you use?

  Also have you tried to write data on discs of different brands?
  It might be possible that there is a problem with the disc incompatibility.
  So if you haven't tried different brands in the past, I recommend to do this.
  TDK are good and recommended use and test the R discs.

  Some users to also clean the laser lens. This helped also.
  Hydrophilic cotton tip and liquid alcohol is a good tool to get the clean laser lens.

  I have a Satellite M55-S325 with MAT * A DVD - RAM UJ-years 840 Firmware Version 1.52 I bought States 5 months ago, everything seemed fine until a few weeks ago when I tried to write some data DVD, I had unrecoverable errors while writing the DVD using NERO 7 ULTRA EDITION, but now I get this messege all the time and I'm not able to write any DVD the disc seems to be well in CD writing. I tried to use recording SOUND now that comes with the laptop, no luck. I tried to reduce the size of the files, and try with lower write speeds but still no luck. I disabled burning CD of the Windows XP SP2 IMAPI burning service COM as well. I use a good quality DVD-R that worked fine before. I would appreciate your help because my HDD is almost full (but still 10 GB of free space) and I need to get a backup of my data.

  Have you tried to remove the device from Device Manager and reboot the laptop?
  After reboot of the device will be recognized and installed again.

  I am using Toshiba satellite P20 - 604 model - load with windows xp prof - SP2. I wasn't able to use the software from burning DVDs successfully, so I tried to install cyberlink Power2Go software (trial ver) in there and ended up with "No. DVD RAM DRIVE APPEAR" in my computer. I could see the device dvd - ram with a yellow exclamation point in Device Manager. (the drive model is MAST * A DVD-RAM UJ-811). I tried to update the driver for it, no use. No idea how to recover the original driver and make it available for use dvd - ram drive? waiting for your valuable solution.

When I inserted an audio CD to play on one of my media players, the disc doesn't show and read that there is "no disc in drive D:". This has happened on both of my media players and has therefore decided to load it manually via my computer, when I clicked on the icon on the player it read that it was not accessible because of a "device i/o error", however the reader will always read DVD and CD, the drive to read also played fine Audio CD yesterday and up to this point.   Sorry, but I don t know what laptop you have (xxx-S203) but I can tell you that DMA if available is standard setting for all Toshiba laptops. On this path, it is not easy to give you a correct answer, but if the reader can't read original CD or DVD I guess there is hardware malfunction and the drive needs to be replaced.

  I have Toshiba Satellite L30-113 psl33 with Mat * a DVD - RAM UJ - 850 s. operating system is Windows XP SP2.

  This drive read and write CDs, play DVDs, but don't write DVD the last time.
  After inserting DVD the status of the device in 'My computer' change to 'DVD RAM' on 'CD RAM.
  After the attempt to write, the errors are "Gage power error" and "not full disk at a time.

  Writing at the beginning of the DVD is OK.

  In your opinion, is it soft or hard error?
  Must I update DVD-driver or the replacement of the DVD player?

  Windows uses the internal Microsoft driver that controls the ODD.

  In any case, the European driver Toshiba page contains a DVD - RAM driver. This driver gives you more support for your DVD RAM drive.
  I m not very good if it will help you, but try to reinstall and check if the drive will be CD - RAM DVD-RAM
