ESX 4.1 installation
New on ESX and just installed on a HP 7900. Had a HDD 2 TB inside. As I am new and I don't know what I'm doing I said to install and everything seems fine.
I have also a 500 GB USB HARD drive connected to this machine. How to connect to the HARD drive?
Also I have some virtual machines VMWare 7.1 (I've already converted two OK so far). However, I'm here stuck with one of them. Initially I had setup this virtual machine with a limit of 500 GB drive. It has not reached that, it is far from it, it uses only 23 GB. However, attempt to use VMWare Converter to convert this virtual machine to the Options section it says that it needs to resize the virtual 500 GB disk because ' on 'datastore1' file system is not compatible file this big. " Please check the file system block size.
Don't know what that means. The ESX machine uses a 2 TB drive that is barely used. She has, however, installed on that ESX. I know that it's based on Linux, is this the reason why?
Can verify us with certainty that he is ESX and ESXi not.
The size of the default blocks the installation will only accept a maximum 256 MB vmdk. If you plan to create / who need bigger disks that you would need to evacuate all your VMS and reformatting of the data store. I would use the maximum block size of 8 m.

No adapters network for ESX 5.5 Installation
I hope someone can give me an answer I can use to try to get this working.
I try to install ESX 5.5 on a PC additional I have laying around my house and I've known nothing else problems with the network adapter. I use an Asus P68V-Pro motherboard with a processor Intel 2500 k and Intel PCI - E network card.
I originally tried to install with built-in Intel Gigabit Ethernet port and was getting a similar error, so I went out yesterday and bought a PCI-E card I know is supported by ESX 5.5 I have 2 friends with the same card it runs without any problems. Reviews of the card that I managed to find also seem to support this. My motherboard supports virtualization and my processor is on a list of the compatible CPU for Hyper-V and VMWare.
But every time I try to run the installation it pops up with the NETWORK CARDS WITHOUT error and cancels the installation. Is there a way to force drivers to be detected during the installation, or ignore the prompt for access to the network in order to install it and then manually transfer the drivers more later?
Ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated, as I seem to have run out of good on my end.
Thank you

ESX 4.1 installation hangs at 85% of the loading installer
Hey,.
I try to install ESX 4.1 on a Lynx system 'VBB-TOPSEL-F' Intel i3. Boot CD install ESX, gives me the menu to select the type of installation (graphical installation, install text)... but no matter which, I select (graphic or text), it loads the installer to 85% and then the systen simply restarts. I checked the (SATA) drives in bios, any off what I can... still no luck.
Help?

ESX 4.1 installation fails (accidents and loops) on IBM server
Framework
Server IBM x 3350 4193-AC1 model
BIOS 1.37 (2008)
--------------------------------------------------
You could never run a VMWare ESX / I produced on this server?
Yes, ESXi 4.0
And Yes, it's true. I could install ESXi (ESX with an 'i' at the end) and use it to test for about 1 year.
Now, I want to practice with ESX (without 'i') and thought, I might as well install the latest version.
------------------------------------------------
What is going on?
I am able to boot from the CD.
I opt to install using the GUI.
The installation wizard starts.
Preliminary checks are OK.
Some lines appear quickly on the screen and I remember the word "weasel" in particular.
I have the ability to install custom drivers and I chose the 'no '.
Hypothesis (good or bad...): this server has been in the HCL for 4.0, so it should be good for 4.1.
Then, at various times during the installation of drivers (I tried this 5 times +), the ESX install wizard accidents (the screen becomes black) and restart of the entire servers.
He has crashed (and then rebooted) at the very beginning of driver loading and section at the end, just after the 100%
It crashed when loading "62vmfs" and "34.storage - pilot.
If ever systematically on a specific driver.
This failure seems to coincide with a yellow light on the IBM Light Path Diagnostics module lighting: NMI.
In the BIOS system log refers to "Message Code 00152100"
I can erase the amber light (managed to turn off the power) by stopping the server completely (pulling on the power cord), then by restarting the whole process - with the same results.
Search on Google, I've seen a few references to NMI but referring to a HP Server.
Any ideas?
According to the HCL (http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php) your firmware must be updated. Make sure that all components of the server (in particular the RAID controller) are listed on the HCL for version 4.1and have the current firmware.

Scripted ESX 3.5 installation
Hello
I want to install ESX 3.5 update 5 through the script (install automated via http).
When installing failback strategy should be on by default 'yes' 'no '.
I'm doing it with the command: vim-vmware-cmd hostsvc/net/vswitch_setpolicy-nicteaming-rollingorder = false vSwitch0
After installation, the policy has not changed and is always set to "yes".
So I ran the command in the service console and a few seconds after the prompt is back. Customer infrastructure "" recent tasks"shows that the position of the switches have been updated, but the policy has not changed and is always set to"yes ".
What is the problem with the command?
Thanks for help.
Tino
Hi Tino
If you want to as failback: no, then you need to use:
vmware-vim-cmd hostsvc/net/vswitch_setpolicy --nicteaming-rollingorder=true vSwitch0

Need to add local storage on an ESX Server after installation
Hello all-
I made a mistake during the install\config of an ESX 3.5 Server earlier today and failed to set up a free partition space... Now I have a working ESX Server with no local storage. Is it possible that I can recover from it without having to rerun the installation?
Thank you very much.
Steve
If access you the configuration/storage settings, you can add a data store.
Wizard of datatstore should see your local drive and offer to use the entire disk or free space remaining to create a VMFS data store.

ESX 3.I Installation doubt
Hello
To after my understanding, ESX 3.5, I did take the next partition? Is this correct?
If it's good for 3.5i which required only the IP address and the set root password, how does the system know the GB how much should be used for VMFS (hard drive)?
Thank you

ESX Update 4 Installation requirements
In general, the answer is 'Yes you can' but I wanted to see if I could know for sure whether or not I can spend 3.5 Update 1 I have installed now, directly to the 3.5 update 4 using image below. I was browsing and related to research and the only true forums post I found was on someone who has tried from 3.5U2 in 3.5U4 and apparent or not, ended up with a corrupt GRUB BL.

HP DL380p G8 with ESX 4.0 and 5.0 of error during installation
Hello
I need it please your help to the next question.
I want to install ESX 4.0 or 5.0 on HP DL380p Gen8 ESX, installation of ESX I received the following error message:
32.networking - drivers failed to run script and installation cannot continue
What can be the problem? is it the driver problem if yes how can we add the ESX driver during installation.
your quick replay is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Default PowerShell restricted running unsigned scripts. To allow them to perform, you must set the ExecutionPolicy setting properly. Depending on your system configuration, you may need to do that with PowerCLI start with "Run as Administrator" see set signature Remote Support properties
For more information on how to use the Image Generator please read Using vSphere ESXi Image Builder CLI. There are also many available exapmles when you do an Internet search.

Install ESX 2.5.5 - installs require licensing to allow power on virtual machines?
I am part of an exercise in DR for ESX 2.5 installation. If ESX 2.5 requires serial numbers on install to allow power on virtual machines?
Or does the time where the vms turn on for the trial period?
The doc of admin ESX 2.5 says that he must have licenses in order to on the VMs.
Can the production ESX 2.5 serial numbers be used for the exercise of the DR, or is related to the material serial number. (I think it could be used).
All points will be awarded.
Thxs
VMware, even in the early days has provided a 60-day evaluation license - worth ESX 2.x and VC 1.x - the same limitations that apply today apply to the ESX 2.x, once that period eval runs out - you will not be able to on the VMs.
licenses are not related to the material. -.

Installation of ESX 3.5 script
Is it possible to script ESX 3.5 installation?
I know that people use kickstart or in some cases, use third-party tools. I found this link:
http://www.VMware.com/support/esx21/doc/esx21install_script_setup_install.html#1088371
The earlier version of ESX as ESX 2.1 had a tool, but I do not see in ESX 3.5.
Does anyone know if VMware has any kind of tools or resources for the installation of the script of ESX? I guess I can always look in the Toolbox, but I don't have time to learn the API.
Thanks in advance.
-tlee00
There is a virtual appliance called the unit of deployment ESX that you can use to make scripts ESX installs very easy. It provides a nice web interface for customizing the installation for those who aren't familiar with startup scripts. It also includes a PXE server and the DHCP server for ease of installation.
I would really recommend take a look. I used it to quickly create scripts for facilities automated in the past and it works fine.
