Install ESX 2.5.5 - installs require licensing to allow power on virtual machines?

Install ESX 2.5.5 - installs require licensing to allow power on virtual machines?

I am part of an exercise in DR for ESX 2.5 installation. If ESX 2.5 requires serial numbers on install to allow power on virtual machines?

Or does the time where the vms turn on for the trial period?

The doc of admin ESX 2.5 says that he must have licenses in order to on the VMs.

Can the production ESX 2.5 serial numbers be used for the exercise of the DR, or is related to the material serial number. (I think it could be used).

All points will be awarded.

VMware, even in the early days has provided a 60-day evaluation license - worth ESX 2.x and VC 1.x - the same limitations that apply today apply to the ESX 2.x, once that period eval runs out - you will not be able to on the VMs.

licenses are not related to the material. -.

  • Disable vmotion for 1 virtual machine in an ESX host

    Hello

We have an ESX environment that is configured with vMotion.

As a result, I've seen VMs from one ESX to another very frequently.

Among these virtual machines, I have a very critical virtual machine, I want to move to any other host ESX.

Y at - it an option that I can use to disable VMotion only for this particular virtual machine of mine (in order to keep constant on the ESX on which it is right now) and allow the other virtual machines to continue.

    Appreciate your help.

    Thanks in advance

I guess that your VMS migrate between ESX servers because configuration automated DRS ESX cluster level. You can replace it for a specific virtual machine. Cluster of right click Select-> "Settings"-> click on options of the Virtual Machine under VMware DRS,. On the right, make sure 'Enable the levels of automation individuak virtual machine' is checked. You can see VMs list below. Select the virtual machine that you want to replace and change the level of automation for people with reduced mobility

  • Install ESX 4.1

    Hi all

I start to build my virtual infrastructure. I installed ESX 4.1 on 3 BL460c G1 blades with 36G of memory. I put my pagefile to 2G and my boot partition to 30G. I plan on building my VM with 1 G memory. This sounds like the best way to start?

    Thank you

    Hello

No reason to not use ESXi?, VMware is gradually complete ESX in the next version.

Depends on your guest virtual machines and that they will be used. So even if a server file/DNS/domain controller can be fine with 512 MB of RAM, a virtual Exchange may bring 2 GB computer + etc.

Just start small and use vSphere client to see how are the uses of resources (RAM, CPU) virtual machines.

In any case, a 30 GB boot partition? This is a doc of best practices for the design of complete plants ESX.

    http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2009/05/27/partitioning-your-ESX-host-part-II/

ESXi installs in less than 1 GB of HARD disk space.

  • XEN running inside a virtual machine under ESX (i) 3.5?

    Hello world

I'm still pretty new mV, so please bear with me if I ask is stupid. I have already searched the web, but I couldn't really find an answer to this:

Let's say we have a VM-certified (for example from Dell) server running ESX 3.5 or ESXi 3.5. I understand that the following would be a typical scenario:

    -ESX 3.5

    -VM 1: Windows Server 2008

    -VM 2: Windows Server 2003

-VM 3: Debian 4.0 (unofficially supported?)

-Virtual MACHINE 4: Redhat Enterprise Linux 4

Could I now install XEN in Debian of VMS 3 making 3 Xen's Dom0 of VM?

So what I want is this:

    -ESX 3.5

    -VM 1: Windows Server 2008

    -VM 2: Windows Server 2003

    -VM 3: Debian 4.0 with XEN (= Dom0)

    -DomU 1: Debian 4.0

    -DomU 2: Debian 4.0

    -DomU 3: Debian 5.0

    -DomU 4: Debian 3.1

-DomU 5: supported an another Linux system by XEN

-Virtual MACHINE 4: Redhat Enterprise Linux 4

Is this possible? If so, that requires any special parameters on the side of the virtual computer, Debian or Xen?

Or, and this is what I hope, is the ESX service an fully transparent layer between whats running in the virtual machine (for example. Debian with XEN) and the actual hardware.

In other words: is the installation of Debian in VM3 "knows" that he is not actually run directly on the hardware?

Thank you very much in advance for any answers or advice in the right direction!

    Tom

Depends on the mode of Xen.  If Xen tries to use the VT / SVM instructions, it will not work because these instructions are not virtualized.  If Xen is running a guest paravirtualise it could work - anyone I know has ever attempted.  (So, "no".)  If this does not work, we would like to hear about it.

Re: Why Debian is not a client supported... it's a problem of bandwidth QA, invited taken in charge to be tested carefully so the number of guests that can be supported is limited.  Debian runs almost certainly - it is very similar to Ubuntu, which is supported - but VMware not QA, if we do not pretend that support.

  • How to install the virtual machine tools

I am new to this, and it's fun to find how to do everything. I'm stuck now, so need some help, I did search but could not find definitive answers.

I have ESXi installation, it will run on a dedicated slide. I have a windows-based virtual machine that I use to test.

I downloaded the iso of VM Tools for Linux to install on the server so that I can push to the client virtual machines. I can't understand how to install the VM on the server tools so that I have the option in the console to push to turn the VM to the client tools.

Is there something I'm completely missing? The iso is for linux, which is the server. I assumed it would be installed on the server that would allow me to push to windows clients.

    Help, please!

VMware tools for Windows is already included in the installation of ESX.

Customer Infrastructure using, go to the console of the virtual Windows computer and logon. Right-click of the virtual machine in the inventory on the left, then select "install/upgrade VMware tools. If Autorun is enabled the installation starts automatically, if not the Windows.iso is loaded into the virtual computer CD-ROM drive and you have to run setup.exe.

  • What is the best way to backup of virtual machines on a standalone ESX with the data store local

    Hello

I want to save the virtual machines on a host ESX autonomous. and all of these virtual machines is the local data store.  What is the best way to save these virtual machines in this situation?

And probably we don't provision VTL on the local data center, so it is possible to use VCB to backup? And VCB is a good choice compared to the traditional method that installs the backup client in each virtual machine?   Because I think that in this situation with the data store local, it cannot not reduced the load on ESX hosts and network overhead can be avoided.

    Thank you!

    LAN

    > 1. VCB usable remote tape library? I mean it's not local library and uses the tape library to another network data center.

VCB is completely unrelated to the tape library, it is a framework, not a backup solution. If your standard backup software can work with the remote tape library you can try it to ungrateful with VCB.

    > 2. what the difference bwteen hot - added NBD and modes if there is that an ESX host with store data local and want to use a virtual machine like VCB proxy? I think that they are the same: the VCB proxy read data through the I/O of the ESX host stack in this situation.

NBD works on network and the backup traffic goes through the service console connection. Hot add uses special machine for assistance to connect vmdk to and uses of e/s disk stack instead of e/s network.

    > 3. Veeam Backup is free software?

    No, it isn't.

  • When capturing installation - if I saw the virtual machine is it captured as well?

All right, let's assume that I am ThinApping an application and I'm in the middle of the installation of the main application and a few children and updates applications.

If something goes wrong, I don't want to start from the beginning.  So after that I installed can the first main application I take a snapshot of the virtual machine?  Well, I know I can, but my question is will be captured by thinapp and packed to the top in the final exe file this snapshot?  Something I want to happen.

If so, how would I exclude in the build?  If the snapshot is not captured, so it's perfect.

Snapshots of workstation are stored on the host computer. ThinApp scans the guest and will not see the snapshots of work stations. So you can take snapshots of work when you want, they are included in the package.

  • Open a virtual machine in a san on 2 different esx hosts

Hi, I have a Vsphere essentials, 2 Esx hosts and an Iscsi san, I need to connect the virtual machine in the two esx hosts (I know I don't have FT and HA), in order to launch the virtual machine never the first Esx and if first host, does not have the virtual machine on the second esx.

I tryied to connect the virtual machine to the second host, but the Vsphere client tell me that's not possible, because the virtual machine is already present at the first ESX.

There is a way to establish this setting?

For some it may depend on your application, if you can run multiple instances of the same application? If it is a web application? It stores its data in files on the server, or it stores it in a database locally? or remote database?

-VM on a local storage of the army, would not really recommended if you need so that it starts the VMS on host b quickly.

-If the two hosts have access to permits it storage even say and what the application can really be run only once.  He could only save it to HostA and if it fails at some point that it will be released the lock, have it on the virtual machine and you will be able to manually register the virtual machine to host b and start the virtual machine.  However, you will not be able to really get ahead.

-HA out of here, as if a host or power failure shuts on HostA, HostB will feed into the virtual machine down automatically

-FT - here in the spectrum creates a VM ghost on the secondary host in levels (what happends on HostA happens on host b)

-Another option to the other end of things has implemented Microsoft MSCS Clustering with iSCSI support I think.  You can run VMS with iSCSI to your San and clustered like this application.  Just note that with iscsi client it uses some CPU to create iscsi packets.

-Web Cluster, Cluster database.    It doesn't matter if one of the nodes of web servers or the database nodes go down really that the user will be redirected to another node in the cluster so really no need for HA/FT.

Of course, with some of the here above are expenses and pro / con of and there's a few ways to increase availability.

  • Cannot install Trend Micro 2012, receive error message: "your computer meets all the installation requirements, so Setup must stop."

Original title: Problems installing Trend Micro 2012

Tried to install Trend micro on my laptop, and towards the end of this way the message; "Your computer meets all the installation requirements, so the installer must stop." appeared. He then read "Windows update," I clicked on the link and also called microsoft who gave me the link updates from SP1 to SP2. I did (ran for almost 2 hours!) and recorded. I then checked the edition of windows under system and it has not saved the update even if it is registered and installed to my files. Tried to do the foregoing twice, still the same problem. Rang Dell and they sought to find an answer to the problem, but did everything they could. Still no answer to the problem after all. I have Windows Vista Home Basic as my operating system and installed Trend micro in the past with no problems. (Not sure if the following has nothing to do with it, but thought it might be useful a mention). I changed to Microsoft Office 2007, which has already been installed on my laptop for Office 2003, because I found it difficult from the laptop to the desktop and I didn't really want to pay for the upgrade of my office, if I didn't need it.

    Hello

You need to install Trend Micro Titanium 2012 Vista SP2 or later version

    See this: http://support.antivirus.co.UK/trendmicro/kbresolution.jsp?Hmid=53756&ServiceId=51&ApplicationId=345

I suggest you follow these methods and check.

Determine if SP2 has been installed or not?

To see if the update has been installed, review the installation history

To view the history of installation, follow these steps:

    a. click Start, point to all programsand then click Windows Update or Microsoft Update.

    b. click view update history.

    c. find the latest entry for the specific update.

    d. If the entry shows the success in the status column, the update has been installed. If it says pending in the status column, the update is not installed.

Post back with the history state of Windows update, mistakes, if there is.

If the update is successful, if it does not show in system properties run System File Checker tool.

To do this, follow the steps in this link:
