ESX 4.1 on HP Proliant DL360 G7 + Smartarray 410i

Hello

I try to install ESXi 4.1 (downloaded from the HP site) on HP Proliant DL360 G7, but Setup ESXi having problems with detection of RAID. The logical unit of the smartarray is detected, but the size of the capacity is 0 (displays 0.00 B in the screen of the Installer). Is this a known problem, how can I fix?

P. S.

I also tried to install the version no HP of ESXi, same problem.

Everything also tried installing CenOS, fine

Thank you

ESX (i) is limited to 2 TB - 512 bytes / LUN. The ACU can take the table and divide it into logical LUNS that ESX (i) can then use to create data warehouses.

  • Expansion / Upgrade ProLiant DL380 G5 and ProLiant DL360 G5

Hi all, we have two servers, Proliant DL380 G5 with SmartArray 400 and Proliant DL360 G5 with SmartArray 200icontroller controller, expand us on the disks, memory and cards network, the problem is that after we see the documentation which is sometimes wrong and don't know not the limitations of each of the parties, the issues are:

    Proliant DL380 G5 SmartArray 400:
    - STORAGE: up to 8 SAS / SATA, not clear what size that can be used with this controller, we understand that up to 500 GB SATA 7200 RPM and maximum 2 TB SAS 7200 RPM, we currently use with 146 GB drives to 10,000 rpm, whose original documentation is the maximum allowed value.
-MEMORY: Up to 64 GB modules of maximum memory up to 8 GB.
    - NETWORK: update with PCI Express, support cards that I can find are HP NC110T PCI Express and PCI-Express HP NC373 HP NC360T PCI-Express.

    Proliant DL360 G5 SmartArray 200i:

    - STORAGE: up to 4 SAS / SATA controller supports only 200i SmartArray four drives in RAID 0, 1, 1 + 0 if we wanted to expand to six bays that are available on the disk server, it would change the controller and memory. Yet, the size of disk maximum supported based on the documentation is 72 GB SAS and SATA drive 60 GB, but looking it seems as if you agree at least 300 Gb SAS disks at 10 000 rpm and up to 500 GB 7200 RPM.
    - MEMORY: up to 64 GB maximum memory modules up to 8 GB.
    - NETWORK: update with PCI Express, support cards that I can find are HP NC110T PCI Express and PCI-Express HP NC373 HP NC360T PCI-Express.

This is what I have gathered and what interests me in the expansion and to say that the documentation I found to give the feeling of this conflict, is perhaps by the dates of their procedures, but before you make a payment would guarantee the purchase. Also getting information guides, manuals and forums, I have also consulted compatibiliy HP Proliant Server Guide, so I have consutlado with HP before purchasing, but have yet to receive an answer.

A greeting and thank you very much

  • Installation of VMware ESX/ESXI 4.1 on HP Proliant DL360 G4

    Hello

I think to buy an old HP Proliant DL360 G4 machine with 2 Xeon 3.6 GHz processors and 4 GB of RAM. I intend to install VMware ESX or ESXI 4.1 on it.

I read some reviews of VMware and other products of the hypervisor and all say that these 64-bit Xeons have no VT support option and therefore cannot run 64-bit Windows guest OS.

Since I just use it as test environment learn more about Windows Server 2008. I would like to know if I can install ESX 4.1 on the HP DL360 G4 and if so, can I install client Server 2008 32-bit Windows OS on top?

Another machine, that I'm looking is the Dell Poweredge 2850, which has the same processor and roughly the same features as the DL360 G4. So I want to know what a Xeon with no VT - x 64-bit is limitation of technology with regard to the installation of the virtual machines based on Windows on it.

    Thanks for any help.

The Xeon 3.6 have VT - X, so you will not be able to run 64-bit OS comments, as you found it- http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=28019. You would be OK for customers 32 bits, but you would be prevented from running Windows 2008 R2, because it is 64-bit only. At this point, I wouldn't bother with a test server that cannot run 64-bit guests. If you want to stick with a server-class machine I keep watch or watch a white box - vm - Help.com - see the list of the white box.

    Hello

HP have a few useful pages for their servers, I keep these around as reference, they are called Quickspecs... lists lots of interesting information about the server and its components..., it's the quickspec for the DL360 G5 it seems only the fully buffered collection list... so you may be stuck with requiring that...

Regarding the browser data store. Toggle the display of data warehouses in the vi client. Or press ctrl-shift-d. Here, right-click on your data store, and then select Browse datastore. When that opens, add at the top of your taskbar, next to the folder icon, is a download icon, a disc with an arrow. This will allow you to download files to your data store. Navigate to a folder in your data store and download the ISO to.

It is a roundabout process, but will work if other methods fail. With the ILO. You can map your local cd through the ILO on a drive on the local ESX host. This will make your local client drive, walk of the esx. With one side mounted ESX host, in the settings of your virtual machine, you can edit the cd and this time, instead of customer, you can select the host device.

  • HP proliant DL360 G3 ESXi Question

I bought a HP proliant DL 360 G3 for my lab and so far have been able to install ESXi and it stand up a race. I can get to it by the client, but the problem is to create a new virtual machine... Windows Setup said that he did not find any hard disk? ESXi reades the data store, then why can not the windows install, see hard drives? What should I do to fix this? Thanks in advance.

The XP cd does not have the SCSI drivers to recognize the Buslogic or LSI SCSC automatons used in its ESX virtual machines. If you have created your VM with a type of buslogic SCSI adapter, you will need to download an image of a diskette of drivers from the link below.

    http://www.VMware.com/download/server/drivers_tools.html

    Then

    (1) (copy the file FLP to your ESX Server (you can put it on the VMFS data store).)

    (2) change your VM and change the diskette to use an image file. Then navigate to the file FLP. Make sure that the connected to the power supply is turned on.

    (3) turn on your virtual machine. During the installation of Windows at the right time, press F6 to add drivers for storage and then load the driver for the drive of the virtual machine.

If you use the controller logic LSI - see this link - http://virtrix.blogspot.com/2007/09/vmware-installing-windows-xp-on-esx.html

Hi, I like to try this server friendly hp (with WIN7) for music production and need some Pci-e cards. Need to FireWire (half Pci-e slot) and connection for 2 monitor machine... maybe better graphics (size Pci - e) card with the digital (Dvi or something like that). I'm not sure that I can get 2 monitor to this DL360 G6 without the better graphics card?

Well, I can buy some FireWire or do I HP stuff, ideas? FireWire 400 is okay, enough for my project

And what Pci-e-type graphics card should work in this machine? I don't need a lot of power, only 2 monitor with 1920 x 1080 resolution.

  • ESX 4.1 on HP ProLiant GL350 g6

I have problems esx to use excess space on my raid array. Last weekend, I added a few additional commands and expanded the chart for a total of 1.91 TB of DAS in the server. I've done this earlier and remembered it was pretty easily. This time, not so much. Once I had finished and restarted esx see CT 1.91 but when you add the screen space is empty. I've included a few screenshots for reference.

    Any thoughts or ideas?

I think that it's your drive is > 2 TB...

VMFS supports max lun size in esx 4.x (2 to-512bytes).

I understand that you have 8 GB of linux and other partitions... but I think he crossed the sector boundary.

  • ESX comments really slow but slow all the way

    Hello!

I have here two ESX 3.5U4 on HP ProLiant DL360 G5 with 8 x 2 GHz (Xeon E5405) and 32 GB of RAM each.

A long time ago a WSUS 3.0SP1 has been installed on a MS Windows Server 2003 SP2 x 86 on the ESX Cluster. Because the performance was bugs me for a long time I put the RAM from 512 MB to 2 GB and added the 2nd vCPU and stop the "Windows Internal Database", which was used by the WSUS before. Now he runs a SQL Express, which also hosts the DB for a G AV-database server. I also 'optimized' the RAM and the CPU of the SQL Server, but again, the machine is too slow that it was before. Start the Server 2003 OS takes like forever (approx. 5-7 minutes) and Manager open tasks or window Explorer takes much longer than it should take. The guest has nothing to do as well as the ESX servers are about 30% used each on the CPU and RAM

Attached you will find the vmx configuration file. Is there something configured wrong or is it windows that needs more cleaning?

    Kind regards

    Christian Arnold

Looks like the problem was within the limit of memory at low altitude, if you had actually 384 MB only.

  • ESX iSCSI & LACP

I have a few questions I wanted to ask and try to learn before you start this project. Currently, we have two ESX servers, located on a single switch. Our virtual machines use different VLANS by customer.

Here is going to be our new configuration I have planned:

    • (1) HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 iSCSI SAN
    • (2) cisco/Linksys SRW2024P switches (supported VLAN, LAG, LACP, frames Jumbo)
    • (3) HP Proliant DL360 G6 servers
    • Each server has 3 network cards
    • (2) routers of Sonicwall

Exactly how do redunandcy off the iSCSI traffic? Using LACP on the switches I would connect the right set of themselves? So 1 Port SW1 goes to SW2 Port 1 and the same for Port 2.

Then I would be on the side of ESX team two NICs together for iSCSI traffic. I would use IP Hash. I would like to connect NIC #1 to SW1 and NIC #2 in SW2. So, technically, I could unplug on NIC #1 and virtual machines must be able to run because of the several paths right?

If I'm away, please let me know. I want to be able to lose a single switch, losing a NIC and continue to operate without a hiccup.
