ESX host cannot ping the default gateway.

Hi Experts,

I have connected ESX hosts to switch cisco as well by the ILO and other ports.

Cisco switch configuration;

int gig 1/0/21 and 1/0/13 gig and gig 1/0/14 are configured as access ports because they are carriers/tagging vLan as a 306.

Cisco switch, I can ping the ip address of the ILO, but I can't ping the IP address management and vice versa.

IP Managment

10.197.204.10

255.255.255.0

10.197.204.1

VLAN 306

Attached the screenshot shown in the diagram.

your help will be appreciated.

Concerning

Don't know what it is, but there must be something simple that you miss

Let's go through each step of configuration for both ESXi network connections (ILO work already, so we do not touch).

Check the configuration of switch port physical interface GigabitEthernet1/0/13 and 1/0/14.

switchport access vlan 306

switchport mode access

spanning tree portfast

Only connect the cable network for vmnic0 to host and make sure what vmnic0 presents itself as 'connected' in the DCUI

Make sure the VLAN ID is empty.

Make sure you then the IP settings are correct (IE without typos,...) and restart the management network from the main menu.

I have a XPS 12 with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 wireless card.  I can't ping the default gateway with the wireless card.  When I use a USB network adapter, I can ping the default gateway for the wired connection.  I can connect to the Internet and the internal network with the wireless card and can ping other computers on the network.  I am trying to run a program to connect wireless to a projector.  I have two different programs for the two different projectors.  I can connect by cable but not wireless.  I think that the problem is anything that does not make me a ping of the default gateway or something on the wireless card.  I have a 10 latitude with a Broadcom wireless card that is connected to the same access point and can ping the default gateway and can connect wirelessly to two projectors.  They all have two windows 8 Pro.

I downloaded the new drivers from Dell, uninstalled, reinstalled, tried to update Windows install the drivers, all with no success. Any ideas?

The solution of the problem by chance.  I was connected to the computer with a different network than what has been used to authenticate user account on the wireless.  When I switched the user account for the user account that was logged on to the computer was the same who authenticate to the wireless, it worked.  Go figure!

  • Nested Hyper-V VM cannot ping the default gateway

    Hello

At first, I have to say that I don't consider myself an expert produced a VMware.

I've been struggling with my test environment nested for a while and finally decided to get help (I hope) of pros.

    Environment looks like this:

    • Physical VMware ESXi 5.1.0 ("Promiscuous" mode enabled for the vSwitch)
      • Couple of virtual machines, one of them being Hyper-V (Windows Server 2012 R2) server that is configured for nested virtualization - 10.106.5.27
        • On the Hyper-V server, I have a VM in Windows Server 2012 R2 - 10.106.5.28

Hyper-V server has a NETWORK card and full network connectivity (internal and external: Internet) and in the Hyper-V Manager, a virtual switch is configured in external mode.

VM is connected to this virtual switch via a virtual network adapter. It has public static IP assigned with mask subnet, default gateway, and DNS even as a Hyper-V host. I ping times by IP and DNS name of the host of VM and vice versa. I cannot ping other resources of the virtual machine as the default gateway and DNS ("request timed") servers out. State of the network in the network and sharing Center is VM:

    • unidentified network
    • Public network
    • type of access: no internet access

When I run the tool for troubleshooting problems on VM, he says "the default gateway is not available". As I said I can not ping.

I think that all my connectivity problems are caused by the unavailability of the gateway by default on the virtual machine, but I have no idea how to solve this problem. When you change the settings of the VM card from static to DHCP I can't even ping on the Hyper-V host.

All servers are joined to the same domain (VM has been migrated to ESXi, so he joined to the domain before, but I can't connect to using domain accounts, probably due to network issue).

I hope I described the problem enough, but please let me know if you need more information.

Try to activate forged passes also on the vSphere vSwitch as you do for the Promiscuous Mode.

    Geoarge,

iSCSI traffic uses a VMkernel port, instead of using the command 'ping', use 'vmkping '.

  • Cannot set the default gateway in ESXi6.0.0 Update 1

    Hi team,

I'm recently set up esxi 6.0.0 update1a on a Dell Poweredge M915 server. When I set up the IP address and gateway DCUI I get error below, I do not know why.

    Enable management network errors:

Default gateway setting has not failed to set the gateway address vmkernel to X.X.X.X there is no VMkernel interfaces on the same network with this IP address.

    Help, please.

Try to set the mask of the host to 24 (255.255.255.0), then network IP and the IP of the gateway management will be on the same network.

  • ESX host cannot see the data store

Hello team, I have vcenter management 5 2 host esxi5. now added an esxi4 in the cluster and added iniitators for file systems. I can see the paths under this host of esx4 showing the LUN of the registrants. but I'm not able to see the data to store. When I tried to edit a newly created virtual machine to find the iso from the data store, it shows only the local hard disk of the host, which is a UCS blade. exsi5 hosts the two ok to see all data stores. can someone tell which part is wrong? Thank you!

Looks like there is no problem with the presentation of the logic unit number since you can see the path to the LUN from the host.

Is - these created data VMFS storages are 50 ESXi? If so, the VMFS version 5 (VMFS 5) which is not supported in ESXi 4.1.

In this case, its expected that the host ESXi 4.1 will not show VMFS5 data warehouses.

  • The host cannot ping

    Hello

I can't reach my host. What could be the problem?

I am using Vmware Server 2.0.1 Build 156745

    Comments cannot ping the host

    Host cannot ping the prompt

I tried to configure the nat and the host only to connect. Nat could also be able to reach the external pages.

    I appreciate any ideas

Is the fixed prompt on DHCP or IP?

What network cards do you have on the host and bridged (vmnetcfg.exe run as administrator)?

Is the physical card on the guest living/connected - sometimes to the life of a card NETWORK disconnected will no connectivity in the guest?

Have you recently changed the VMware network in the host? If so, you will need to restart the VMware services or reboot the host.

Is there a firewall clutter it?

Is the card NETWORK connected to the prompt - it shouldn't be a red cross on the network icon in the list of the material in the center of the console pane when the virtual machine is selected in the left pane?

The MAC address or virtual and physical adapters in the host and the single guest, that is not duplicated?

If all this pans, can be helpful to remove the NETWORK card in the prompt and add a. Also, what type of NETWORK adapter is it in the guest - 'flexible' or 'e1000 '? Should be 'flexible' for Linux - post (tie) the .vmx doubt customers.

  • VM management host cannot ping gateway or switch

    Hello

We have a server Esx 5.0 with 3 vm on it. When I try to ping the management network of vm for my pc that I do not get an answer too trying to ping from the vmn console I can not ping to the gateway, but I can ping dns. However, I can rdp in vm servers and the ping to the gateway of each server, as well as newspapers in vsphere. We have a system with 2 voip VLAN, the other data and another for voice. Hosts and servers are all on the same cisco switch.

    VM management network

    IP - 192.168.1.6

    Sub - 255.255.255.0

    GW - 192.168.1.1

    DNS - 192.168.1.10

    Cisco switch - 192.168.1.3

    Data Vlan - 192.168.1.1

    Firewall - 192.168.1.2

    PC

    -cannot ping 192.168.1.6

    -can ping everything else

    From the console network management

-cannot ping 192.168.1.1 a.3 or any pc

    -can ping 192.168.1.10

It sounds like a switch problem but do not know how to fix it. The switch is a switch of cisco small business pro 8 ports

Make sure that your routing has L3 to a defined network to get traffic to your host (192.168.1.0/24) network to any network it seeks to achieve. You did not show what the subnet for the PCs are so I'm not sure that the network is.

Regarding the gateway ping, make sure that the echo ICMP message is enabled by the firewall so that ping responses can go to the host. If you still cannot ping the gateway with that on, there may be a larger problem with your connectivity.

  • Cannot ping the Virtual Machine by host

    Hi all,

Please help, I use VMWare Workstation 6.5 and I have a physical operating system which is Windows XP SP2, I have a network card, but not connected to a physical switch, the IP address is 192.168.0.1. I installed a Virtual Machine using Microsoft Windows 2003 server as the operating system, promote as domain controller, install the DHCP, DNS service and assign an IP 192.168.0.2, no default gateway.

My VMnet1 on physical operating system has an IP 192.168.204.1 and VMNet8 has an IP 192.168.126.1.

The host, I cannot ping the 192.168.0.2 which is the IP address of the Virtual Machine. Even in the Virtual Machine, I can not ping 192.168.0.1 is the IP address of the host. From what I read, the physical and the virtual machine were connected with a virtual switch. Am I wrong?

    Any advice?

    Thanks in advance.

They SEEM to be in different networks, you need search routing between them,... since they differnet networks...

    on the other

they do host and the virtual machine on the same subnet / network for EXAMPLE: class C class network 192.168.200.0/24

  • Disconnected ESX host cannot add to the CR

It started with me being unable to power on a virtual machine that I created because of "Insufficient resources to meet the level of failover configured for HA" which is great because that's how to configure HA.  I tried to reconfigure the AP to the host by double-clicking on the host and select this option.  Once I did that it failed about 30% with "an error has occurred while setting up the HA Agent on the host" and the networking page disappeared from the configuration tab similar to what a lot of people reported during the upgrade, I think an earlier version.  This is not the case, I did not update anything.  Then I restarted service service mgmt-vmware restart and the ESX host disconnected from the VC altogether.  I can't use the VI client to connect to the host in question, but I am connected via the service console. All VM and the host not to requests ping and everything works. I've disabled HA and DRS and tried to add new ESX host that has not worked.

Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Losing Internet connection because of the default gateway is not available.

I keep losing internet connection and when I run the troubleshooter, it comes up saying "the default gateway is not available". I have an HP with Intel dv6985se. I was advised to do the following:
I had the same problems of chance which I fixed it by simple disabling 'SLEEP ON DISCONNECT' SideScalng disconnect

1 Access Device Manager (Control Panel > system and security > system > Device Manager)
    2. expand the network adapters
    3. Select the adapter that you are using (if more than 1 Repeat step 4 to 8 for each adapter)
    4. right click and select Properties
    5 click Advanced
    6. If you have installed Nvidia Ethernet configuration click the button
    7. scroll to the bottom of the list and disable the device sleep on disconnection and receive Side Scaling
    8. save the settings

I appreciate this help info but none of this applies to my computer has. In my device under 'Network adapters' Manager, I do not have Nvidia, Asus and AMD, which is listed under my network cards is "Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN" and "Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI - E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)".

The help that I've provided says disabling "Sleep on Disconnect" and "Receive Side Scaling"... or those who are in one of my "adapter properties tab advanced options" for both my Intel and Realtek... no where does say anything about sleep on disconnect or side scaling.

I was online with HP cat many times and Ive tried the options they have provided that is basically what I've found here but nothing has worked so far! My computer is 1 1/2 old and is preinstalled with Vista 64-bit. Recently, I have completely restored my computer with Windows 7 64 bit, and ever since then, I can't download anything or talk to HP or any kind of help because I lose the connection. Could someone please help me solve this problem... to be frank and honest he pisses me off beyond words that I never had this problem when I'm on Vista!

I don't know what else I can provide to better help me to solve this problem, but if anyone would like more information on what programs etc, my computer has let me know and I will provide the information. Below, I'm pasting the info I received through my history of troubleshooting like a Notepad of paper Network Diagnostic and Route.Print document.

In Windows 7, when I try to change the default mode of wscript, I get an error message. When I get home

    CScript //H:CScript

    the command line, I get

CScript error: cannot change the default script host

    What should I do?

Open command prompt w / administrative permissions (right click, run as administrator), and then run the command:
    cscript //h:cscript //s //nologo

  • Linux comments can contact other guests but not the default gateway.

    Hello.

I have a 5.1 ESXi. client 5 running serverhost. The network works fine for 4 guests. But when I try to add a new host Linux I can communicate only with other comments operating systems and not the default gateway.

I checked all the steps in this troubleshooting guide:http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1003893 but I still have the same issues.

On the host, we have 2 NIC, I tried both NICs and nothing works for this new guest, while the NETWORK adapter do not work for the other hosts.

How can I solve this problem? Any help is appreciated!

    Welcome to the community,

can I assume that you are maily talk guests (VMs) and not all the other guests (ESXi)?

In any case, did you double check the client network configuration to verify that there no fault of typo in the example subnet mask?

What type of physical switch are you using? Some switches come with port security, which limits the number of MAC addresses that can register on a single port.
