ESXi 5.1 updrade to 5.5u2 PowerEdge R730

I had a few R730 brand-new which comes preinstalled with ESXI 5.1 u2, on flash cards double and the size of each of them is 7 GB

What is the procedure to upgrade the esxi 5.1 to 5.5 on PowerEdge R730 using the iso dell custom", and 7 GB will be sufficient for the upgrade process?

Thank you

* boot ISO shows datasore and two data warehouses 7 GB 300 GB *.

Alshawwa,

The process is simply to run the update with the ISO custom. I guess that the hypervisor resides on SD cards, so if this is the case, then select for update. The 7 GB is more than enough space for the hypervisor and upgrade. ISO is just show hard drives, as well as 2 redundant (7 GB) SD cards.

Let me know how it goes.

    Hello Arjan

Yes, you can use SSDS in RAID 1.

The controller supports the TRIM and cancel orders mapping. SSD MLC are grade consumer SSD which will not have the life expectancy of SLC.

  • Install.VGZ fails in ESXi 4.1 install on a Dell Poweredge R710

I have a cluster of ESXi 4.1 six-host running on Dell Poweredge R710.  They start from a USB key connected to an internal USB port.  I did at least 12-20 installs on the same hardware without problem.

When I try to re - install on the single ISO ESXi 4.1 host via the iDRAC, the installation fails when loading install.vgz with the error message: "Booting: MBI = 0x000100c0, enter = 0x0040024a.

I studied the two codes and the only suggestion that I get, it's that my hardware is not supported (specifically that my 32-bit processor is not supported).  I do not have a 32-bit processor, so I know that I can surrender.  I downloaded the CPU VMware ISO (file:///C:/Users/pguarco/Downloads/VMware-CPU-Compatibility-e.x.p-160658.zip) compatibility, and my CPU meets all requirements.  Previous installation of ESXi host crashed for unknown reasons, where the re - install.  It is possible, that there is a hardware problem.  Any ideas on how to limit this problem?

you are doing the right thing. only thing I could thing is bad ISO, (Please make sure that the checksum is correct). and the worst case material PE firmware update.

  • State "Unknown" to the storage controller on one of our servers, PowerEdge R730

    Hello

I'm having a problem with one of our servers. I tried to add all our servers PRTG to monitor the State of health and the hard drives. On two of our three servers, it works absolutely perfect, on our third-party server, all the disks are red because 'the component status' is 'unknown '.

Then I checked this server iDRAC interface and noticed, that under the "storage->-> health and properties of physical disks" the status field contains a question mark for each hard drive. Under 'Storage-> controllers' fields status for 'Health and Properties' and 'Battery controller' it shows an exclamation mark.

On our other servers, all statuses are all green. Version of firmware and driver are exactly the same on all three servers. I don't know if it's a hardware problem or if it's just a setting error.

    Any ideas?

    Hello.

  • DELL PowerEdge R730 (Gen 13) always 100% fan (16000 RPM +)

    Hello

I have a brand new R730 DELL.  Since the time I first started the box, the beginning of fans out to what I consider normal speed, halfway through start, then for as long as the box is enabled, the fans are strong and spinning to their maximum rate 100% or about 16000 RPM.  There are 6 fans in this area.

I have updated the BIOS to the latest firmware 2.2.25, I also updated the firmware from LifeCycleController to the last 2.40.40.40.

Dell technician has been there twice to replace 1) all motherboard (motherboard) and the other 2) maps PCI riser (who had the button intrusion).

The server fans still spin 100%.

    I did:

    -the flea power drain

-the IPMI command to turn off cooling for PCIe

-remove all memory but 1 chip in A1 and deleted 8 SSDS.

    Turning always to 100%.

When you look at the installation of the fan to the iDRAC, I can't even set a custom value because the beach is stuck at 100-100%.

There is no additional PCI or PCIe cards installed.

Does anyone have an idea what is happening here.  It does not seem right that this fan run at 100% all the time.

Looking at the configuration of the system, the server was shipped with 2 processors Intel Xeon E5-2689 V4. These processors have additional thermal requirements and so RPM fans' will operate 100% as a trade off. Based on this information, the fans run according to the needs.

    Greetings,

I try to install ESXi on a Dell PowerEdge R820 server.  I have problems with the reason of the installation because the NETWORK adapter is not supported by the operating system (5.1 ESXi).  I did a little research and discovered that there are custom versions of ESXi out there to install on vaious systems.  That would be the problem?  If so, does anyone know a particluar website that I might be able to get the correct version of ESXi 5.1 for this server dell PowerEdge R820.
    Here are the specs:

  • Dell Poweredge 2850 and ESXi 4.1

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2850 with 12 GB of RAM and two CPUs, hyperthreading with 350 GB of disk space.

This box was initially installed with Redhat Linux ES 5.4 64-bit and OS 64 bit CentOS 5.5 with no problems, so I know the processor supports 64-bit.

I then installed VMWare ESXi version 4.1 on the Dell Poweredge 2850 with no problems.

Then, I created a few instances VM I want to install CentOS 5.5 64 bit.  During the installation of a VMware instance, I get this:

msg.cpuid.notLongmodeQuestionFmt:This veritual is configured for 64-bit operating systems.
However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.
Longmode is disabled for this virtual machine.
    For more information, see http://VMware.com/info?id=152
    Continue without 64 bit support?

Now the question I have is this: given that VMWare is problems with 64-bit OSes comments, how is it that I can install CentOS 5.5 64 bit on this Dell PowerEdge 2850 with no problems.  It seems obvious to me that the PowerEdge 2850 works well with the 64 bit OS but not ESXi 4.1.

How can I get around this?

    Comments?  Thanks in advance.

The dell series 8 (1850/2850) have no vt support, so not support 64-bit virtual machine, except 6850.

The output of the processor shows the same thing, or rather, what he shows no vt in its ability.  It shows lm, long mode, so you can run 64-bit, that you are running ESX, but to succeed in this 64-bit support, you need the lm, you and vt, which you don't have.

  • U1 ESXi 4.1 install on Dell PowerEdge R210

Have no success in installation of the ESXi 4.1 U1 on the Dell PowerEdge R210? I'm unable to install ESXi and maybe someone had some advice. The Dell server comes with a RAID1 and is under the list of VMWare HCL. There a S100 for the RAID controller. Dell recommends to break the RAID1 and install ESXi on the local drive (single). This server comes with a 500 GB drive (x 2).

What will be the best option? I think to install the 4.1.U1 ESXi on a USB key, but had no experience this and I don't know how is it sustainable. I can count on and what size of USB do I need?

Please advice what have you done or any recommendations on how to install the server host.

    Thank you.

    Collin

I'd certainly install on a USB key. You will need a 1 GB or more large USB key. You can have an internal USB slot and I would like to check the documentation for your location. ESXi loads directly into RAM, and he has very little written on the disc. A copy of the small configuration happens once per hour.

I don't think that your RAID controller can be used as RAID because I think it's a software RAID that is not supported under ESX (i). You will end up with two separate drives.

  • ESXi 3.5 on Dell Poweredge 2950 and Dell 6 GB/s card SAS HBA?

    Hello.

    I'm under ESXi 3.5 u4 on a Dell poweredge 2950 machine.

    I recently bought a Dell Powervault 124 t. autoloader with a HBA SAS 6 GB/s card.

I installed the card SAS in the PE 2950, but now I can't seem to see in ESXi.

Can someone help me with this?

    Thank you very much.

I'm afraid that the Dell technician is correct.

Someone at - it a link on ESX support not directly connected devices?

This isn't the issue. The question is: do you have a link that shows devices supported?

Reference Dell does support the autoloader Powervault 124 t. on ESXi 3.5?

Have you checked the VMware HCL already, if the SAS controller is included/supported for ESXi version, you are running?

There are a few articles which have tape readers running with Adaptec SCSI controllers, I don't see anything for ESXi 3.5 with a SAS controller still...

Maybe there's a better chance to make this work with ESX 4.x with VMDirectPath

  • Network on the VMS problem guests on nested Hyper-V on ESXi 5.5

Nesting of virtualization is already complicated, now, I hope that my subject of this discussion is not too complicated.

Server: Dell PowerEdge R730 double E2640

    • External hypervisor: ESXi 5.5.0u2 (Dell custom image, installed on the server), 4 (NIC0, NIC1 in use) network interface cards
      • Management IP address 10.200.200.9/ subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 / Gateway: 10.200.200.1

    • Inner hypervisor: Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter, using 2 network cards virtual x E1000E
      • IP 10.200.200.10 (for BONES)
      • IP 10.200.200.11 (for guest virtual machines)

Basically, I followed the instructions to create a new virtual machine with Virtual hardware version 10, edit the vmx file, allocate and reserve the 64 GB of RAM with 8 vCPU for Windows Server,

    VHV. Enable = "TRUE".

    Hypervisor.CPUID.v0 = "FALSE".

    MCE. Enable = "TRUE".

At this point, everything works fine- I am able to install the Windows server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V feature. I also installed VMware Tools on this 2012 Windows Hyper-V, datacenter arrived at the field, ran iSCSI to connect to our NAS and restarted the hyper-V without problem on ESXi.

But when I try to install a new guest VM in Hyper-V, the network does not work properly.

I install a Windows Standard 2012 on Hyper-V (the inner hypervisor) without problem and the guest that OS Gets a 10.200.200.86 IP address (assigned by DHCP on the same subnet)

This guest operating system, I am able to ping it's computer Hyper-V host 1st layer (10.200.200.10 and 10.200.200.11) and 2nd ESXi host (10.200.200.9), but the impossibility of joining as a result of gateway (10.200.200.1).

And of course, I received an exclamation sign on the network icon in the taskbar of the 2012 Windows standard saying 'no internet connection '.

    * I was always able to join this Windows 2012 Std comments to the domain.

No existingon the same subnet is an another Hyper-V on server physical hosting multiple virtual machines of comments including the controller of field and the DHCP servers, etc.

I tried using PCIe with the Dell Server NIC3 pass through, but it crashed the ESXi and gave me an IERR (CPU 1 error) error message on my screen front of server Dell

I ended up not using pass-through PCIe (although I really want to use if this solves my problem), because I learned that it can cause problems with other discussion threads Intel processors.

Also, does anyone have similar problems? What did you do to fix this? I have been stuck for days not being is not able to connect guest VM in internet...

My goals for this configuration are

    (1) simplify my strategy of VM backup (backup only the Hyper-V 2012 to capture all the parameters of the virtual machine)

    (2) maintain the real guest VMs on the NAS.

    (3) use this new Hyper-V with another Hyper-V (on another old physical server, are not nested) to provide high availability

  • Unable to connect to new ESXi 5.5 with vSphere Client hosts

Completed the new installation of ESXi 5.5 on two new Dell PowerEdge servers last night.

Trying to connect to them through the vSphere client fails.

I can ping both servers without any problems from the server where the vSphere client is installed (it is not a domain controller but a Windows 2003 server - it has not .net 3.5 SP1 is installed).

If I try to open the IP address of the host in a web browser http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx expires, however, if I try http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:902 It connects to the server, but rather than get the web page, I'm used to waiting with 5.1 I get this message:

"220 VMware authentication daemon Version 1.10: required SSL, ServerDaemonProtocol:SOAP, MKSDisplayProtocol:VNC, VMXARGS taken in charge, taken NFCSSL in charge." I get this exact message even though I have telnet to port 902.  So I know that I can speak to the host, but have no idea why I can't connect to it or they have the tools to display in a web browser. »

Try to use the same IP address with port 902 in the vSphere client to connect, I get this error:

vSphere Client could not connect to "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx".

A unknown connection error has occurred. (The client received an invalid response from the server. (The server committed a protocol violation. Article = ResponseStatusLine))

I noticed that there was a lag of 2 hours and 4 minutes between the host server and the client's server.  I have reset the time to match up in the BIOS of the host server.  The test gave the same results.

Probably unrelated, but throw it out there in case it points to an answer, when executing the "Test management network", ping passes to the default gateway and the DNS server secondary (which is Google 8.8.8.8) but fails for the main DNS (local IP) server and host name resolution is faulty.

Ideas, help or solution would be much appreciated.  I need to get the network to this customer virtualized this week, and I would prefer not to have to go back to 5.1 if possible.

    Thank you

    This is resolved.

And it's one of those things that you just kick yourself for.

I tried this on two servers, Server 2003 and using IE8

Tested a theory using a VPN to my laptop Windows 8 IE 10 and it has worked perfectly, then tested on a Server 2008 R2 using IE9 and it worked perfectly.

Installed Chrome on the two Server 2003 servers and worked perfectly.

So in the end it was IE8 that was not compatible and all the problems at the origin!

Thanks again to you Andrew for trying to help!
