ESXi 5 - How to monitor NETWORK traffic

Hi all

I have 4 network cards on my server and I added a quad-port PCI NIC

I use 4 network cards are associated with associations using native ESX for management and vMotion

While the other 4 are for my ISCSI traffic. ESXi native mulipathing

How to see if the traffic is through the network/switchports cards and all paths?

Thank you

In the vSphere client, select the host, and then click the performance tab.  Click Advanced, and in the drop-down list 'Switch' select network.   You can click Chart Options to select specific performance parameters to display.

If you're connected directly to your ESXi host, then simply select the Performance tab for the host.  The "Advanced" is the only option when it connects only not via vCenter Server. ""

  • Asked to "monitor all network traffic" Fusion 7.1-8.1 Windows plain vanilla VM - I didn't ask for it, how to disable it?

    Hi all

I created a computer virtual Windows 8.1 on October 1, 2013 with the current, at that time version of VMWare Fusion (not Pro, who has the tab network preferences and the check box associated to whether to display it's fast) on my Mac.

Since then, I upgraded the version of OS X to Yosemite and the version of VMWare Fusion to 7.1.1.

At one time, months or years, I started having the prompt below:

    VMWarePromiscuous.png

A virtual machine tries to monitor all network traffic, which requires administrator access. Type your password for this purpose.

I don't want to allow this, I never asked for this virtual machine to use the "Promiscuous" mode, I don't want to do, and I can't find anyway to turn this off!

I always leave the command prompt and everything works fine.  Discussions only I can find this in the forums are all related to people using ESX to vSphere, neither of which I have no knowledge where all used.

I had an another VM Windows 8.1 on another Mac during the same time, which has crossed all the same updates, and it never shows this prompt.

Please help make this stupid, quickly go and stop this virtual machine to try to use the "Promiscuous" mode!

    Thank you - Harold

    Hello

I appreciate the efforts to try to solve the problem. You might face this problem because corrupt or the network driver. You could also face this problem because of the incompatibility between the IP address. Please write us with the following details.

    1. What is the brand and model of your computer?

    2. You did it all changes to networking prior to this problem?

    3. Do you have an error message when you try to access the Internet using a browser?

I suggest you follow the steps below.

Method 1: Run the network troubleshooter utility.

Click on the link below and run the network troubleshooter utility. Automated convenience store is a tool that can find and automatically fix problems with your computer. • How to monitor tomcat 4.0 & 5.0

    Hi all:

Foglight v5.6.5 cannot monitor tomcat 4.0 & 5.0. My client needs a lot.

How can I meet the requirements.

    Tanks a lot.

    Hello

    You have the following options:

    1. execution of the Foglight Java agent in agent X mode, which will give you the JVM as well as seek time of traces and the degradation of the layer information.

The information on this subject exist in this solution to support https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?ID=SOL68881

You can also read the great explanation on X agent Brian Wheeldon wrote this response http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-administrators/f/4788/t/19549840 area

2 monitoring using JMX with jdk 1.5.x or higher agent (you will see that all information is published with JMX).

    3. you can always use the utility agents: Appmonitor follow the process running, webmonitor to monitor the availability of web pages and logfilter to check the log file for exceptions. If you Fxm/Fxv launched, you can monitor web traffic to the tomcat server.

    I hope this helps.

  • analyze network traffic

    Hi all

first of all, I want to say hello and that this forum was already a big help for me.

Unfortunately I could not find anything on how to analyze the network traffic on a blackberry device. It is possible to analyze the network (ip) traffic using an api (signed) java?

Something like an OutboundMessageListener for IP packets would be perfect. What I found was net.rim.device.api.system.RadioInfo.getNumberOfPacketsSent (), but I want to get the content of all sending packets (ip). Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

    not possible, unfortunately.

  • total number of bytes of network traffic for a given period and given a vm guest

    Hello

I want to see the total number of bytes of network traffic a given virtual machine generates in a give period.

I think it's possible with a great metric but don't know how.

    Any help is welcome.

    Kristof

This is for vrops x 6

    1. create a metric configuration

    2. create a new dashboard with a list of objects and graphic metric

3 edit the object list widget, and the filter object type\Virtual Machines and save

    4. change the metrics graph and select the metric config that you created in step 1 in the metrix configuration box and save it

5 in Widget interactions select list of objects in the menu drop-down and click on apply Interactions and save the dashboard

When you open the control panel and select a virtual machine from the list (or search for it in the filter), it will display the average amount of data received and transmitted in Kbps in the metric table. Use the controls to date to specify when you want to see the data to and from.

    Hope this helps

  • IP address of management VMWare ESXi 4.0.0 decline in traffic

I have a new HP DL380 G6 server, install VMWare ESXi 4.0 with HP customizations, fresh and is having trouble with the IP address of management only.

This server has 4 NETWORK ports in it, and initially tried to add all 4 ports shared resources to ESXi. But then I ran into problems with the vSphere Client and he loses communication with the ESXi server. So, I tried to set up just 1 NIC port dedicated to the management with no network VLAN. It has a static IP address. I tried swapping network cables, check the switch port settings, etc..

Funny is that the machine on that host virtual all work very well and respond well to network traffic.

Also, I tried to update the firmware on the HP and NIC server without any change in improving. I lose about 40% of the traffic on the ip address of management and some problems when I need to manage this server. Yet once the VM seems to work well. If I reset the management interface to the management of the t server comes back and starts to work immediately. But, given a short while she appears to hang for 5 minutes and then starts working again.

    Any suggestions?

I think that there is some confusion on the wording.

When you talk about "Routing" on a HP Procurve, actually in comparison "Etherchannel" on a Cisco switch. And when you speak of a 'trunk' port on a Cisco switch, it is called a 'marked port' on the Procurve software.

From what you write, I assume you are using a Procurve and created a trunk for aggregation of links. In this case, you will need to define the strategy of virtual switch to "Route based on the IP hash" as already mentioned AndreTheGiant.

However, I would suggest leave you politics vSwitch failing "Route based on the virtual origin of switch port code" and set the physical switch ports 'labelled' (or 'trunk' for Cisco). In this way, you can configure them VLAN on groups of virtual ports and uplinks attached to this vSwitch are affected alternating.

  • vSwitches and network traffic internal vs external

In an effort to reduce copper that we adopt 10 GB NIC on our ESX 4.0 servers. This means that we will have many more VMs sharing a physical network card. Our network security architecture is such that servers are separated in different segments of network with access restricted by ACL in the physical network equipment, it is used to separate the databases of web servers, etc..  A question arose about the traffic that can pass between virtual machines but never cross the physical network.

Linking rising 10 GB nic is connected to a port to shared resources, so we have two virtual machines that have different network segment addresses (different VLAN) will be communication between virtual machines only crosses the vSwitch or will be the release of traffic the ESX Server through the ACLed interface and return on the other virtual machine via the same uplink port?

I thought that, given that each virtual machine has a gateway address specific, that traffic had to leave the ESX Server. But then again they will be on the same vSwitch if...?

    Kind regards

    Garrett

If they are running on the same host, the vSwitch works as a physical switch, so, ideally, you can move the data of Vlan. . but in order to browse the segments, you need to hit the gateways defauilt for each segment.

If your DG isn't on the ESX host. . Unfortunately, you're going to the physical network.

How to keep the traffic on the Local host is to use Private Vllans to segment the traffic, or you can also install a VM device that can manage your default gateway (router on a stick) of routing

If you have the device to your traffic. everything is local. otherwise. . Physical switch will not only take the traffic, but distribution to the next layer so that it can be done correctly.

  • How to monitor the CPU, memory and i/o on the system

    Hello..

    Some body help me?...

    1. how to manage the monitoring of the performance of the system and the database during execution of ODI?
    2. how to monitor the CPU, memory and i/o on the system?

    TQ
    balleur

In an attempt to partially answer your questions:

    1. how to manage the monitoring of the performance of the system and the database during execution of ODI?

Monitor the performance of the application from a commercial point of view. As transactions per minute, or response time or time elapsed for the key events of the company. Monitor the activity of the material such that the CPU usage is not necessarily linked to the performance of your application. Performance should be measured from top to bottom - business first, then the lower levels until you get finally to computer equipment. Only if you get a problem to the next level - response time is too large, for example - you can go through the lower levels to identify the cause and fix it.

    2. how to monitor the CPU, memory and i/o on the system?

I personally use "sar" on UNIX-BASED or Linux, or rather "CFDCs" which is the system activity data collector. SADC will measure and collect data on activities on CPU, memory, disks, etc. and save them to a file in binary format. You can then extract these measures later for analysis using SAR (sar f sadc_file_name). The benefits of SADC are that it is light (these operating systems measure such things anyway, just CFDC records far), it records everything at once (with the exception of the network), it records the time stamp too for each measure, and you can analyze it later when you want to.

There are commercial products out there too who do similar work, with additional features, such as the integration of Oracle and the relationship between several systems. TeamQuest is an example, but there are others also. (I do not work for TeamQuest, but I used their product in the past).
