Asked to "monitor all network traffic" Fusion 7.1-8.1 Windows plain vanilla VM - I didn't ask for it, how to disable it?

Hi all

I created a computer virtual Windows 8.1 on October 1, 2013 with the current, at that time version of VMWare Fusion (not Pro, who has the tab network preferences and the check box associated to whether to display it's fast) on my Mac.

Since then, I upgraded the version of OS X to Yosemite and the version of VMWare Fusion to 7.1.1.

At one time, months or years, I started having the prompt below:

VMWarePromiscuous.png

A virtual machine tries to monitor all network traffic, which requires administrator access. Type your password for this purpose.

I don't want to allow this, I never asked for this virtual machine to use the "Promiscuous" mode, I don't want to do, and I can't find anyway to turn this off!

I always leave the command prompt and everything works fine.  Discussions only I can find this in the forums are all related to people using ESX to vSphere, neither of which I have no knowledge where all used.

I had an another VM Windows 8.1 on another Mac during the same time, which has crossed all the same updates, and it never shows this prompt.

Please help make this stupid, quickly go and stop this virtual machine to try to use the "Promiscuous" mode!

Thank you - Harold

  • Site to site VPN, I need all internet traffic to exit the site.

I have 2 sites connected via a pair of SRX5308

    A = 192.168.1.0/24

    IP WAN = 1.1.1.1

    B = 192.168.2.0/24

    IP WAN = 2.2.2.2

Now what I need to do, is to have all traffic from B to go to the site one even traffic destined to the internet. That is, I need internet traffic out of our network with the IP 1.1.1.1, even if it is from the network B.

On my I have set up a route 1.1.1.1 of the ISP, then a value by default 0/0 to 192.168.1.1 it ASA knows how to get to the peer VPN is a more specific route, but sends everything above the tunnel, at the remote end which then hairpin of ASA routes internet outside its own WAN port traffic.

I can understand though not how to so the same thing on the pair of SRX5308 they either don't raise the tunnel or internet route to the local site address B.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I need to do this because we are logging and monitoring of internet traffic to A site via tapping from upstream to various IDS solutions and will not (cannot) reproduce this to all our remote sites.

    Thank you

    Dave.

After some more thought and testing I came up with a workable solution to my own problem. I'll share it here in case it can help others.

    (1) use the wizard at both ends to implement a normal VPN that connects the two segments of network 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0

    (2) go to site VPN - VPN policy remote router192.168.2.1 and click Edit

    (a) disable Netbios

    (b) select "None" from the drop-down list the remote IP address.

    (c) to apply the change

    3) go to the VPN-> VPN policy on the head end site (192.168.1.1) and click Edit

    (a) disable Netbios

    (b) select "None" from the drop-down list the local IP address

    (c) to apply the change

Now all the traffic wil go down the VPN tunnel and exit to the internet on the site of head end. Hope this helps others with the same question.

How do i fix gateway is accessible but cannot recieve network traffic from internet

    Hello

I appreciate the efforts to try to solve the problem. You might face this problem because corrupt or the network driver. You could also face this problem because of the incompatibility between the IP address. Please write us with the following details.

    1. What is the brand and model of your computer?

    2. You did it all changes to networking prior to this problem?

    3. Do you have an error message when you try to access the Internet using a browser?

I suggest you follow the steps below.

Method 1: Run the network troubleshooter utility.

Click on the link below and run the network troubleshooter utility. Automated convenience store is a tool that can find and automatically fix problems with your computer. These utilities are not designed to solve all the problems, but they are useful to try because they can often save you time and effort.

  • I have only a single ID and would like to know if its possible to monitor all the VLANS.

With only one ID I I want to know if it is possible to monitor all my VLAN in the network. I use version 4 ID and VMS MC 1.1.

If I have to set my internal addresses and those which I define as internal are considered as approved, in the case that I have configure a port in my central switch to monitor all the VLANS in my network and connect the ID to the destination monitor port to sniff all the VLAN, VLAN which I consider as an intern?

Also, I have switches catalyst 6006 and 6509 with version 5.1 (3) and 12.1 in each case, can I apply for fleeing to take acctions when an attack is detected?

    Is it possible this configuration?

    Thanks for any help-

I don't know if the ID is used to detect the specific activity you mentioned. You would need to go through our list of signatures to see if it's possible. You can even submit a new assignment and ask this question again.

    As for the actions.

Cat OS 5.3 should allow you to be able to inject a TCP Reset packets through a span port (requires the parameter enable inpackets).

In regards to the blocking with Cat OS 5.3, I don't think that this version supports the VACL. You may need to upgrade the version of the OS to chat if you want to block with VACL, and you also need a PFC and an MSFC on the supervisor.

NOTE: If you have an MSFC making routing you may also block with the traditional router ACL on the MSFC.

On the IOS running native 6509 (where IOS instead of the traditional CatOS runs on the prime contractor), there may be a problem with TCP resets. I don't know if the port of the monitor (equivalent IOS native span port) will allow the incoming TCP resets. You need to browse the documentation.

Some versions of native IOS (I think that what you have newer versions) will also allow you to monitor through the capture of Vlan ACLS feature. If the sensor is followed by a VACL Capture port instead of a port monitor then I think that the TCP reset works OK, but I have not tested.

With native IOS the sensor supports router blocking with the traditional ACL, it does not support blocking with Vlan ACL in native IOS.

NOTE: The difference between router ACL and Vlan ACL is the Vlan ACL is applied to the vlan and applies to all packages comining and at the exit of the Vlan. While the router ACL is actually applied to the INTERFACE of the Vlan where an IP address has been assigned and only applies to packets routed in or off the Vlan.

NOTE: Native IOS requires that the master has an MSFC even load the image.

  • I get a Firefox error message that says, "something tries to trick Firefox by accepting a security update. Please contact your network provider and ask for help. »

I get a Firefox error message that says, "something tries to trick Firefox by accepting a security update. Please contact your network provider and ask for help. "Do you know what is happening here - what could be the problem? (I have the latest version of Firefox already installed. I previously got Firefox error messages indicating "Firefox update failed". However, I already have the latest version of Firefox installed when I got these error messages.)

I think that we must hope that the problem will be resolved at the present time. If you see the error message again post in this thread. Also, it would be unusual get this message while trying not to update, but if you get if you try to copy and paste the details of console error that they can be useful.

    Use

    • keyboard Ctrl + Shif + J
    • or button-> Web Developer Firefox-> Console errors

This kind of message is apparently the only normally expected when you try to update to Firefox. It seems strange that you get the message using a 'Œuvres' document, but others have reported this message seemingly random incidents.
(So normally, you must clear the error console, and then try to update knowing the error messages have been the result of this attempt to update)

If I had this problem my concern would be that some kind of malware may be involved, but the message can then indicate that all this malicious program is upset.

  • Need for detailed monitoring of IP traffic

I bought the Nighthawk R7000 router for my parents and they love it. However, I am disappointed by its rather simplistic traffic monitoring tools. The only info. I can read the stock browser GUI is a few basic IP traffic counting such as daily, weekly and monthly totals through the router.

For the last 6 months, I kept a monthly Diary of their Internet usage (they have service of Comcast 50 Mbps) and noticed an ever-growing increase in the use of about 60 GB of total traffic in June 2014 to now approximately 200 GB in November 2014. I asked them if they use more band bandwidth-heavy apps like YouTube videos, but they both say their general use is about the same as the return in the summer. Something strange is happening. They have some devices that I suspect may use a lot of this traffic - such as MagicJacks (2) for their VoIP home phone, but also a receiver of satellite w/Sling Apple use TV and DISH hopper.

Y at - it to DD - WRT firmware I can use on the R7000 for IP traffic detailed stats for each device connected to the router (both wired and wireless)? If so, what is it? I've heard of Kong builds are the most stable, but they have this detailed logging of IP traffic feature I'm looking for?

Here's a screenshot of the sample of a router ASUS using tomato firmware to show the kind of detailed report of IP traffic by device I'm looking for:

  • IdeaPad Y560 wifi detects all networks but don't connect at all!

I have an ideapad y560, recently I installed a fresh win 7 ultimate 64-bit. Everything is perfect, except the wifi, it is not connect to any network, even though it detects all the and asks for the key, but ends up saying "windows could not connect to .

    Let me explain in words:

    1. wireless driver works correctly

2 - Wifi detects all networks and demand the key to connect

3 but it says "Windows could not connect to.

    4. connect to ad hoc networks without problem

5 - LAN connection works perfectly

    6. each driver is updated (network, BIOS, Bluetooth...)

7 - Windows is being updated

    8. all the existing solutions in each forum are put to the test

    Any suggestions?

    Hello

He had a preinstalled operating system that has win 7 home x 64, the computer was full of viruses so I need her erase and install a new one.

The good news is I spent all night on this subject, and this morning I fixed the problem after 72 hours. That was very interesting!

I went on the last restore point and it fixed the problem, I do not know how, because the wifi was not connect from the first moment, I installed the win 7 ultimate, which was average, before the creation of this restore point!

    Thanks if buddy!

  • Wireless - C6180 network traffic

    Product: Photosmart C6180 all-in-one

The printer has been set up wireless to share among 5 computers and works very well.  My concern is that the amount of traffic network the printer generates.

I analyzed the network traffic generated by my computer using Wireshark Analyzer (packet sniffer) network protocol.  Traffic is presented as a series of SNMP (from the computer) requests to the printer and the answers SNMP from the printer to the computer.  This status of probable reports in near real-time.

This isn't a problem, but I would like to discuss the volume of network traffic.  I see on request 20 and 20 responses per second for a single computer.  Request/responses start a port 1026 (sending a request and get an answer) then increment to the next port 1027 (request / response), increment to the port 1028 and continue.  This continues until it hits port 5000 then begins to port 1026.  About, through 4000 ports every 3 minutes.  Each request and response being about 100 bytes of information.

This traffic volume is normal?  It can be reduced?

I looked in the printer and the software congifurations to see if it can be reduced to a minimum and can not see a framework to reduce the traffic.

Well, I expected someone to complain about this. Also, I think that it is rare as well.

What you see, is the HP SW on each computer to the printer for admission to the status of vote. I think that changes of the PC port with each SNMP request but you should see that all SNMP packets going to port 161 printer and that the printer meets the port 161 originally PC port...

You'll also see shows SLP in 427 on the printer port as well (most used ARP and NETBIOS stuff).

To my dismay, this is normal (an old design in fact) and we are changing. Yes, it's a chatty Protocol but the bandwidth network should not be significant (using your numbers – I thought the refresh frequency was 1/3 Hz):

    5 computers * (20 packets/SNMP-s) = 100 packets/SNMP-sec * 200 bytes/SNMP-package (estimated) = 20000 bytes/s.

(Is this a lot on a 11g wireless network has a bandwidth of?)

The real problem occurs when you have a wireless network. Because UDP is not reliable, the SNMP get s/SNMP-response may be lost, especially on the airwaves. When this happens, the SW will attempt the request again, and after a series of delays, the HP SW will think the printer is offline.

Now to answer your original question: you can remove the most background traffic by disabling the HP printer services. You will still be able to print but the scan will not work. Another option is to uninstall the HP SW and manually add the printer in Control Panel. Unfortunately, this also gives you printing without analyzing.

  • RV180 VPN route all internet traffic via IPSec VPN

    Hello

I install my RV180 to VPN to our headquarters Fortigate 60 C. It works really well

My only problem is that I don't know how to move internet traffic on our remote site by Headquarters. We want to use this technique so that all sites have the same web content filtering provided by our main Fortigate unit. I see clearly that all traffic destined to our internal network will go trough the VPN tunnel, but internet traffic will go through our modem at the remote site.

My way of fortigate thinking said that I need a static route to transfer all traffic through the VPN tunnel. I've read elsewhere that I need to set up some sort of ACL.

Anyone else has any ideas on this / has anyone successfully implemented somehting similar?

    Hi Jared,

I don't think that RV180 takes complete care of tunneling. Complete tunneling allows you to all your traffic to VPN. RV180 made only split tunneling.

    Thank you

  • analyze network traffic

    Hi all

first of all, I want to say hello and that this forum was already a big help for me.

Unfortunately I could not find anything on how to analyze the network traffic on a blackberry device. It is possible to analyze the network (ip) traffic using an api (signed) java?

Something like an OutboundMessageListener for IP packets would be perfect. What I found was net.rim.device.api.system.RadioInfo.getNumberOfPacketsSent (), but I want to get the content of all sending packets (ip). Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve
