ESXi 6 Horizon 6 VDGA AMD

Hello

I have a problem. I'm trying to get an AMD W7000 works with vmware view horizon 6 VDGA in mode.

The operating system is Win 7 x 64, also I tried 8.1 Win x 64, still no luck. I have passed through the card on the virtual machine.

View services are all running. I can also connect to the virtual machine with the customer to view

but I got a blank screen for a few seconds and that the client disconnects

the virtual machine. I disabled the firewall on the virtual computer and installed the latest VMware tools and drivers AMD.

I also added the "pci.hole = 2048" command to the vmx to the virtual machine. Like poolsettings, I tried all combinations

the rendering option (automatic, off, software...) nothing worked. In the view all the Center (certificates, vCenter...) is green.

Are there log files that I can go to narrow the problem?

Kind regards

Herb

AMD GPU:s are not currently supported with vDGA, it is however supported by vSGA if you can try that instead.

VSGA to install a VIB (pilot) from Nvidia, for vDGA that you don't need to install any driver on the ESX, but in the virtual machine.

    > If I choose to install the driver nvidia for vDGA I can only configure 2 vms for this dedicated right GUs?

Correct, but you could also have a configured with vDGA and one with the vSGA

    > If I choose to install the driver nvidia for vSGA I can configure as mush as the memory on the NIC and host memory are able to right? (half mem GPU, mem half host)

You can assign max 512 MB to each virtual machine, half will come from the GPU, the other half of the memory of guests as overhead.

    > What is the main difference between K1 and K2 of the grill rack, is that only the K2 has 2 GPU?

    K2 have 2 GPU:s and 8 GB of memory, K1 4 GPU:s and 16 GB of memory. The GPU:s are very different, but, the K2 have 2 Quadro K5000 and K1 have 4 Quadro K600.

I have some experience and to be honest its very difficult to say at the outset that the technology that will be more suitable. I recommend to install a few test machines and let real users to evaluate.

For one of my clients, they found the solution not to appropriate to their main designers but are several other usecases, teleworkers, construction sites, scenarios of training partner, access, etc. that makes the very successful solution.

I'm talking about vSphere 5.0 here people. Thank you so much everyone. What can I do or what I missed? I need to migrate my VMs nested under my ESXi nested successfully.

    Thanks again nested VM experts!

ESXi does not support on your processor hardware-assisted virtualization.  If your processor is AMD - V, there was a design flaw with the first generation of AMD - V parts that we have chosen to not to bypass.  You will not be able to run virtual machines nested on this material.

ESXi 5.0 supports AMD - V only on later processors and family 10H.

  • Licenses & recoveries

A few years ago, we have invested in vSphere Standard license, then thereafter, additional license with a View first add-on vSphere

Support for vSphere Standard license has expired about 4 years ago

Support for the package to view expired 18 months ago

We are examining our options to upgrade to the latest packages (ESXi 6 & Horizon)

One solution is to pay the costs of recovery, another option is to purchase new licenses and renounce our initial investment in what license is left behind as well.

We have been informed by a dealer who:

    • We cannot buy the Kit essential Plus, because we already have Standard licenses

    and that

    • (Even if there is no Standard licenses) would have not allowed us to buy essential kit more than once - that is you can only buy it once, as a new customer, and if you want to subsequently scale up to more than 3 guests, you must go to Standard license rather than buying an additional kit for EP.

Can anyone confirm that these points are fair?

I'd also be interested to know if we are prevented from restoring our view licenses unless we also restore licenses vSphere that was bought next to her.

At present, any reinstatement fees in fact obliges us to consider going to Hyper-V to save money, but I want to be very clear about what restrictions apply on the side of VMWare before exploring more.

    Thank you

You can buy essential kit more without any restrictions

The restriction mentioned by our dealer was just regarding the functional limitations to do so (for example, being not able to vMotion invited through various EP groups; vCenter limitations in terms of number of hosts managed etc etc).

Here, no purchase restriction not based on existing licenses, nor is there a limit to how many amounts of the EP kit you can buy.

  • Question about on VM consolidation number and percentage of CPU Ready

    Hi people,

I'm trying to consolidate as many VM in simple ESXi servers on HP on AMD Opteron blades with 32 CPU available logic (based on the number on the vSphere console)

Can anyone here please share some thoughts and comments about what is the best indication to avoid adding more VMS that ESXi hosts can treat?

I must ensure that the number of vCPU altogether exceed is not 32 logic processor available, or it can be more than that?

Running a script powershell LucD to collect CPU ready percentage shows that some virtual machines had prepared more than 10% CPU (for the most part 2 x vCPU) up to 22% (this one with 8 x vCPU)

    Hello

I had the same situation on HP Blade and DL serer with two different CPU vendors.

Intel CPU based on my experiences, has better performance compared to AMD CPU when the CPU is too committed on ESXi server.

I have HP BL460c G6 and G7 on one of our sites, the server has 12 physical and 24 cores logic core.

I assigned four cores to each customers (to fix the voice problem) and virtual machines are working properly, RDY CPU is less than 5% in general and there is no performance problem.

Each blade server hosts 20 VMs and total virtual cores are 80 cores, so we attribute 1:3 (Physics: virtual) core.

On the other hand, I DL585 G7 on our sites some server has 64 physical cores (4 Sockets and each catches have 16 cores). Servers host 50 active VMs usually but RDY CPU is greater than 10% or 7% on them. Total virtual cores are 200 and CPU assignment ratio is 3.

I think that, if you want to optimize performance on AMD CPU, 1:1 or 1:2 CPU assignment report is the best choice.

  • A clustrer function of Intel and AMD mixed server ESXi does

I have a HP DL380p G8 which has 2 intel xeon CPUs (8 cores) and another HP DL385 G7 server with 1 CPU AMD Opteron 6134 (8 cores). Not now take place ESXi. We plan virtualization. Based on the VMware compatibility guide, two of these servers are ESXi 5.x supported. Although he said that the DL385 G7 needs 2 CPUs. Is this correct?

We do not have a lot of servers and according to virtualize, three ESXi servers be enough. Can I get an another DL380p of the G8 and have a cluster of two servers Intel ESXi based and a base of AMD server or all three servers should I run the same processor/vendor?

    Thank you.

    A.

Cluster of features such as vMotion (live migration) require processors from the same provider, supporting a common mode of EVC.

Where did you read that the AMD need hosts two processors? Currently I'm not aware of such a requirement.

  • VSphere installation 5.5 ESXi on AMD Phenom ii x 4 955 proc problems.

While I don't see the AMD Phenom ii in the HCL list. I read on some other KB articles that VMWare supports fully the procs Phenom line. Here is what I have and what is happening.

I have an existing VM running in VMWare Fusion which becomes too greedy resource after 3 years and I want to move a machine, I found in my graveyard of machine.  The machine in question has 8 GB of ram, 2 GIGE NIC, a GFX card and the proc AMD Phenom I don't know much more on the cause of the machine I have not build it, a former employee did.  It is used to run the 64 bit version of Windows Server 2008.  I pulled the 2 older 1 TB drives if I ever need the data on them. I threw in a 160 GB seagate SATA drive and hung.  I have ESXi serious ISO 5.5 on a CD and it is loaded in my optical drive. When I boot I get a generic thing 'there is no OS loaded' and I can choose ESXi from the optical drive. When I click on that it loads a bunch of modules takes about 5 minutes or less. Can console me msgs that his will restart and build the kernel.  I get no further than that. I let stand the machine up to 15 minutes and I don't have a screen empty. As the GFX card that my monitor is connected is not integrated to the motherboard, I wonder if this is a problem? Should not that the BIOS uses it and when ESXi loads the modules before you build the kernel, I can see all the current action.

    Any info is much appreciated.

IF I have no info Im going to try to install on an Intel Quad Core XEON5400 (series harpertown) Xserve I have laying around.

    Hello! Nice day!

I have Nvidia Tesla k40 and SuperMicro x9drg-qf.  My server is to have 2 CPU and 64 GB of RAM, PCIe 3.0.

I'll try the power to the top of my Virtual Machines in passthroug mode. But I got the error:

PCIPassthru: 02:00.0: device BAR 4 requested memory 64-bit address that exceeded the type MPN

BIOS SuperMicro is having option: memory mapped IO beyond 4 GB == activated.  I can't change this option to disable, Tesla will not work (no MESSAGE in the BIOS message, lack of PCI resources).

How do I use the vDGA mode in my VM in this configuration.

    Thank you for the answers.

Hello, Iforbes! I use qemu-kvm. KVM works with k40m! I have two cards (k40c and k40m). Please, look at this specification: http://international.download.nvidia.com/tesla/pdf/tesla-k40-passive-board-spec.pdf (page 6) http://www.nvidia.ru/content/PDF/kepler/Tesla-K40-Active-Board-Spec-BD-06949-001_v03.pdf (page 7) this information was included in the specifications of nvidia and I can see in the output of the command "lspci": Tesla k40c - BAR1 256 M Tesla k40m - BAR1 16 GB. Bar1 is great for Xen and VMware... He can't address memory... Maybe Xen solved this problem... I do not know. I wish you an easy solution to your problem! You can write me on my email.

  • View horizon 5.3 - grid K2 - vDGA - vCenter console does not

    Hi people,

With the 5.3 version vDGA is now officially supported. It is very good when it works!

I am running 4 VM, each with its own dedicated K2 GPU. Reports of the administrator view 4 desktops to work and I can't connect to each desktop.

The problem is that just now, I had the Windows Update running on each machine and after installing .NET 4.5 Friday, Microsoft's got 200 MB + with patches for me.

The problem is that I cannot use the console in vCenter to access the virtual machine. The machines work fine, but they seem to be suspended during Windows startup.

    Selection-064.png

The image comes from the exact same machine, just two ways of looking at things.

I guess the console tries to access the output of the SVGA driver, but since K2 is started, the display, nothing is presented to the console.

    Any suggestions here?

    Godmorning!

Great as his work well for you, I expect a blog post soon!

Please share this material you have and if you had problems to make it work.

Console frozen black vCenter is expected when you use vDGA, since we are routing the graphics pipeline in other words we will lose the console.

  • ESXi 4 with AMD phenom x 3 720 and M3A78-EM motherboard (minor problem)

    Hello

I'm quite new in the world of vmware. I have successfully used this combo whitebox for about 6 months. In order to have a successful install, I had to update my bios to ver 2003 and use pcie nic cards intel. After a successful installation, I looked inside the host, and he acknowledged the CPU X 3 720 with all 3 CPU cores. It also allowed me to assign all 3 hearts to a box of windows media 7 I have set up as an image on the host computer. The question and the problem I have is: in the new windows 7 x 64 image, it does not show 3-wire, it shows only 2 hearts. Detailed information inside the say that Windows 7 is an AMD phenom X 3 2.81Gz processor with 2 processors, not 3. In the Task Manager, the window of cpu usage shows only 2 windows instead of 3.

Two processors are much for this image will do, but it would be nice to use all 3 CPUs, if possible.

No matter what I try, I can't get windows 7 to recognize all 3 hearts. Even after I try all the stuff online, including the re - install, it's not even a hint of success.

I have concluded that the vmware bios used for images, does not correctly recognize the CPU with 3 hearts. Am I correct in my assumption?

    Thank you

Seems that I was mistaken with the number of vCPU that you can assign to a Windows 7 VM.

However, the vCPU is presented as the virtual machine CPU sockets and Windows 7 only supports 2 physical CPU (Starter and Home 1 only). This looks so much like Windows ignores the third CPU. View the comparison to compare features of Windows 7. Search for "physical processor Support.

If you have a licensed version of ESX (i) you could try the currently unsupported feature to assign the vCPU 3 as a multi-core CPU.

  • Grid settings and vDGA K2

    Hello

We have a demo environment with view Horizon 6.0.1 2 ESxi hosts and one with K1 and K2 of the grid grid.

I got network cards to work, but I have a few questions, or configuration issues.

On the virtual machine that we want to use to vDGA I'm not sure what to have configured under video card, the only thing that works is like the image below.

But this is a strange problem. If I configure the VM as the image and then starts the virtual machine immediately, it works fine. If I wait 10 to 20 seconds before you start the VM or ig I stop the virtual machine and start it again, it fails with the following error

If I then check the settings of the virtual machine, I see that he has changed it follows automatically

So my question is what am I doing wrong? Also what about 512 memory, expected it be an another setting on it?

IM new to vDGA and vSGA so always learn.

Don't know what the problem was, but I created a new virtual machine, and then the configuration has been authorized. So I guess that where there is something corrupt with as a.
