ESXi host not manageable

Hello

I have a cluster with 7 host and some machines virtual everything works fine, but 2 of my host is not manageable vcenter, when I right click on the host any action is disabled but when I connect directly to host all the actions, is to allow.

I restart the agents of management but not resolved my problem, can someone help me?

If your domain account must be a member of another group in which more restrictive permissions apply on affected hosts...

Please double check if your domain account is an administrator on the highest (vCenter) AND level

that the same account is not part of a local group or domain that has some restrictions on lower-level objects-> i.e. those affected hosts...

You can also try to create the new user grant him administrator in the vCenter level... role connection and test whether these two hosts are manageable.

OK, so the ESXi nodes were hard started (as if you pushed the power button).

This is probably why the task for a planned restart does not turn upward.

Do you see the ESXi nodes with the following script?

It shows the events where the connection to a host has been lost.

    $start = (get-Date). AddDays(-7)

    Get-VIEvent - MaxSamples ([int]: MaxValue)-start $start |

  • RAID 1 hardware and ESXi - host not to see the virtual volume

Please bear with me as I try to explain this issue in detail.

I have an ESXi server.  He has a number of virtual machines and works.  This server has a LSI RAID controller and had a single hard drive connected to this controller.  I'm allergic to non redundant drives, so I added a second drive and, from BIOS boot from the RAID controller (before initialization of the server itself), I created the mirror and had the controller 'rebuild' the second disc, copy of an image of the first record on.  The controller did and displays a virtual (in BIOS) volume in a RAID 1 volume consisting of two physical disks.

At this point, I expect from any server OS to see the single volume.  However, ESXi, at startup, see both drives hard physical (apparently without taking into account the supposed configuration of the controller, which is strange for me), and because they contain all the two identical copies of the ESXi installation, it purple-screens to complain about two identical UUID.  When I work around this error with the start command line option 'overrideDuplicateImageDetection', ESXi starts on one of the two disks.  vSphere shows the two disks and physical disks, mounted in the system.

I'm relatively certain that the RAID card maintains the mirror.  The second disc is not part of a data store.  I would prefer ESXi see the mirror as the only logical volume so-called offer the RAID card, but I'll settle for ESXi, ignoring the second unit of disk in total.

    Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help,

    H.

    Hello

Some RAID controllers operating in RAID or RAID configuration. If no RAID is created, it will work like the generic SCSI cards and when a RAID is created then it will become an appropriate raid controllers. When you installed the ESXi map was probably operating in non RAID and later converted to a RAID controller mode. Please check the drivers loaded in the kernel of ESXi and if necessary, please include the RAID controller module and re build the boot image.

Is it possible to give me the model number of the LSI RAID you use and the output of the inscription of the kernel module. I think that these dual-mode controllers were possible on older models of server, not sure that they are always available. I used to see this kind of problems with Linux in ancient times.

I really really slighty possible via Powershell saw...

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello

the link that I commented, explian how to monitor the status of the ESXi hardware by using the cmdlets for powershell CIM 3.0.

    Not the virtual machines

    This, will you?

Check this code from the link, you should notice that connects to an esxi host, not virtual machines:

    import-moduleCimCmdlets
    2 $ipaddress="10.20.177.15"
    3 $HostUsername="root"
    4 $CIOpt= New-CimSessionOption-SkipCACheck -SkipCNCheck -SkipRevocationCheck -EncodingUtf8-UseSsl

  • Add the Active Directory group to the ESXi host permissions

I am trying to add a group of ads as an administrator directly to an ESXi host (not in vCenter).  I tried to use the following code:

    $domain = "mydomain".

    $group = "mygroup".

    $svcaccount = $domain + "\" + $group

    $folder = get-file-name "ha-folder-root".

    $authMgr = get-View Manager

    $perm = new-Object VMware.Vim.Permission

    $perm.principal = $svcaccount

    $perm.propagate = $true

    $perm.group = $true

    $perm.roleid = ($authMgr.RoleList | where {$_.}) ({Name - eq "Admin"}). RoleId

    $authMgr.SetEntityPermissions (($folder |)) Get - View). MoRef, $perm)

    I get the following error:

You can not call a method on a null value expression.

    $authMgr.SetEntityPermissions < < < < (($folder |)) Get - View). MoRef, $perm)

When it is connected to ESX the Manager Id is "Manager-ha-authmgr" you may not use the shorter expression of Get-View:

    $authMgr = Get-View AuthorizationManager

The safe way to get the Manager display is via ServiceInstance object:

    $si = Get-View ServiceInstance
    $authMgr = Get-View $si.Content.AuthorizationManager

  • VMware ESXI host Client is not compatible with the Ipad

    Hi all

First of all I want to say that I am very happy with the introduction of the ESXI host Client, it's a very good start for not having a vSphere client to be installed.

One thing I was hoping too is compatible with mobile devices, for example, an IPad. Unfortunately this isn't the case. Not for IOS 8 or 9

I tried several browsers without a bit of luck.

    There are several problems;

    • The page is not scaling properly
    • The top bar is not visible, you can, for example, sign out
    • The Web page expands when you rotate the page on the iPad horizontally, not having not not able to see the Web page complete.

I found these problems in Tech Preview, build 2015.08.25.3015331 combined with ESXI 6 with the latest patch

    Kind regards

    Marcel

    Hi Marcel,.

Thanks for pointing out these problems. We have made a few improvements wrt. support iPad in the last version of the adventure. Could you update and let me know how it goes?

  • 5.5u2 ESXi host will not mount CF data warehouses

I am the admin in a test lab, so many times I have to "make do" with what I have for the material.  I recently reassigned a R910 Dell with 64 GB memory in a 5.5u2 ESXi host.  It has some storage SAS (2.5 to) and some (CT 11) directly connected FC storage and some FC HBAs for use by VMs to send data to the tape library.

Recently, we had a power failure, and this host does not reconnect to the CF storage when she returned to the top.  (Duty to "make do" with what I means not having is not the capabilities of UPS).  I can tell the host of HBA see it properly and sees the LUNS on RAID controllers, but refuses to mount.  I go through the add storage Wizard, and he sees that there is a store of data storage VMFS, but always refuses to mount.  I also tried to remove the redirection to the two FC HBA that have been set up for this purpose, but it made no difference.

I have now three users unable to work because they cannot access their virtual machines on storage of this FC.  I can't even transfer them off to use the SAS storage form.

I think it might be the cause file system damage, but I'm not sure.  Someone at - it suggestions?

Have you ever tried to set up data warehouses from the command line (see, for example, http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1011387)?

Check if the port TCP 5989 (incoming and outgoing) is open to allow CIM transaction traffic pass between the host ESX and vCenter Server and vice versa.
DMZ host is managed by a server vCenter Server outside the DMZ. It may occur if the port 5989 is blocked, even if ESX and vCenter Server are in the same network.

  • 5.5 ESXi host is not able to connect to the network

I installed ESXi5.5 U2. But the ESXi host grab an IP address from the DHCP server. I tried givind static IP of my office network, but still unable to connect to the network. I checked the CLI, the vmnico of the adapter is in place. Why the machine does not have an IP address?

I started this machine from the network (available in the bios settings) and observed if an IP address is required. Then, I started the server from the hard drive. Surprisingly, it took an IP and I could connect via the network.

After that, I plugged this NETWORK adapter to a different location on the same server. I found the same problem (do not take IP). But when once again, I did the "Network Boot" thing, it took an IP address and now it works fine.

    What is average?

Apparently, my problem is solved, but I still don't know the reason.

  • 5.1 ESXi host is showing that does not

    Hi all

We are to vCenter 5.5 with Environment 5.1 ESXi hosts. On one of our ESXi hosts, we sometimes get to see 5.1 ESXi, (build 799733) host is not responding and the virtual machines on this subject are displayed as status disconnected at the end of their names.

When this happens, we are able to ping on the ESXi host and virtual machines are also able to ping / react to what is good, but he continues to be on different hosts at different times, all what I do when this occurs is to try to reconnect on the ESXi host and it connects fine and machines virtual hosting on she will return to the State normal and everything will be normal on this host. I want to understand why this is happening at different times and on different hosts of ESXi and ensure that this should not happen again in the future or find the before root cause is even worse.

so, could someone please look at this and let me know where to start troubleshooting this to find the root cause.

    Thanks in advance

  • ESXi host have not of virtual machines when connected through vCenter

    Hi all

I am facing a problem with 1 ESXi hosts. All other hosts are working properly.

All hosts are managed by vCenter 5.1 VM. When I select this problematic host in vCenter and click on the virtual computers tab, it does not display anything other than a blank page. Then, it throws an error saying that the object has been deleted or has not completely created. The screenshot of the error popup is attached.

However, if I connect directly to the host through the VI client, it does not throw the error and I can see the virtual machines it. If I have vmotion the vms during this host, I do not see these virtual machines via vcenter but I connect directly to the host and I can see the virtual machines. They work very well.

What could be the cause of this problem.

    Thank you

    AG

I would try restart the management agent on the host troubled or removing of vCenter and time.

  • ESXi host does not connect more after a restart of the service LogInsight

    Hello

I put several (5.1 U1) ESXi to use the newly installed LogInsight. they sent him their event properly. I had to restart the log service Insight. After the reboot, the hosts stopped sending events. the vcenter continued, however.

I had to reload the syslog on the hosts to send their event to the perspicacity of newspaper.

    esxcli system syslog reload

any idea? I guess that's not normal behavior

    Thank you

    Eric

Hi Eric, this is unfortunately expected behavior. What you are experiencing is a bug in ESXi. More information is available in the Guide to installation/Admin under the troubleshooting log Insight section or at the following article: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2003127.

ESXi newspapers stop arriving at the Insight Journal

After you restart the log service Insight, ESXi hosts syslog messages stop arriving at the Insight Journal.

    Problem

In Insight Journal configuration changes require that you restart the log Insight service. After the restart, syslog RSS of ESXi are no longer available.

    Cause

Some versions of ESXi stop balls sending if connectivity to the remote syslog listener is stopped, even for a short moment. This problem affects the following versions of ESXi, depending on the communication protocol used.
