ESXi Installtion stuck on the root password screen

Hello world

I inherited a very small VM set up of 3 armies under vCenter and vSphere 5.5. I'm also very new to all of this. learner I want so please excuse any newbie questions!

I'm reinstalling EXSi on a host with two hard drives 3 fresh to a hard drive failure. It's all right until the Setup program allows you to 'Root' password screen where it used to let me enter a password at all.

If I type nothing happens and if I press on enter, nothing happens, aI can do is to press F9 to go back. ... Am I missing something or is there a reason that's not let me enter a password?

I can find something on this subject anywhere online.

Thank you very much

So I traced the problem down to a faulty KVM, so I'll go and sit in the corner with my cap of dunces on now!

  • HP Pavilion 21-h010la stuck in the HP splash screen.

Hello. I'm having a problem with my computer. When I try to turn it on, it gets stuck in the HP loading screen. I used the PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI and he says that it meets the test, even if the SMART hard disk check returns a WARNING. The program didn't give me all the instructions to fix it later. Do I need to change?

    Hi there @mafi11235,

That the Forums are with you!  It's a good place to find the help you need, other users, the HP experts and other members of the support staff. I understand that your computer is stuck on the HP logo at the start, and that he was a WELL-INFORMED driver error message. I'm happy to help you with this.

If you get a SMART disk error, so it is normally a warning of impending failure, based on testing the drive runs itself. This could mean the drive is defective or shows signs of failure, but in general you want to replace it and try to make a backup of your data as much as you can, until it was inaccessible.

You have recovery media or already made for Windows 10 recovery disc? If this isn't the case, you will want to get some for your system. Computers HP - get HP recovery disks or HP USB recovery disc

Please let me know if it works for you and if it does not solve your problem, please mark this message as a solution. Bravo would be appreciated as well.

  • T420 stuck on the startup Lenovo screen

Hi I'm new to this community, so I would like to applogise if I have something simillar to mist (I checked some but not solved my problem).

I have a thinkpad t420, I bought a used one. It worked great, and I bought a friend, that I trust. I installed an SSD, was usnig Linux, and everything worked for a month. But then I bought a HARD drive caddy and replaced the CD-ROM. After that my thinkpad has worked for a day (although he does not recognize the second HDD). The next day, I tried to find BIOS for some parameters and after I restarted my laptop, it was stuck on the startup Lenovo screen, reboot loop. I tried:

-removing and replacing the caddy with the CD rom.

    -replace my SSD drive,

    -replace the RAM (two locations),

    -Reset BIOS,

-launch a diagnostic CD (but it does not start, nor can I boot from a USB key)

My google search showed that he could bi a problem with one of the USB pins inside one of the ports (short circuit or something like that), but I couldn't find any damage. So I'm thinkig that the motherboard may be damaged, but I can access BIOS, but it's the only thing I can do with it.

I'd be thenkful Walker of any advice or help, before moving on to official Lenovo service for help. Thnak you!

    Z.

You can always source a new mobo on eBay, or any part on your T420 to recover some costs.

  • Can I change the root password in VoP Server Explorer?

    Hello

I was encouraged to see VoP Server Explorer, but my network does not have any system to have a default root password. Can I change the root user password?

    Thank you!

    Jennifer Flanagan

Altogether.  Just connect to the console as root and type 'passwd' to change the root password.  Be sure to keep track of what you set, because there is little recourse except in single-user mode if it goes astray.

Make your own information system repair disc in this tutorial:

Try to do a forced shutdown... Virtual Machine menu > Option key > Force Shut Down

Take a look on: switch Power controls from the default Options

Don't vSphere 4.0 support characters other than the numbers/letters for the root password, such as # or $?

  • To connect by SSH slow to deal with the root password

Strange question here, more than inconvenience cause really questions. I just did an install ESX 4 on a G5 BL680 vanilla. I enabled root ssh and sshd restared so I could connect and configure with PuTTY. In the putty session, after that I entered the root password, it takes about 50 seconds to complete the opening of session - every time... The same server by connecting with the ILO, it is as usual. There isn't any other slow once connected, just that. Other ESX hosts on the same subnet (ESX 3.5) do not have the same problem. I tried to restart sshd, restart the server. It has all the latest patches for ESX 4.0. Someone has an idea of what he does all this while?

    Thank you

Check if you have DNS configured correctly or at all.

  • HP Pavilion P6724IT: Hp Pavilion P6724IT stuck to the HP splash screen after the installation of the new VGA

    Hello people.

I buyed a new VGA, a Gigabyte GT740 2 GB DDR5, before I had an Asus GT630 2 GB of DDR3 memory and had no problem with it.

After you mount the new VGA, I noticed that the computer gets stuck to the initial start with the HP logo screen.

Can't even get to the BIOS, but if I remove the card and use the igpu it is all ok.

I tried to update the bios with the latest version on the HP website (v.7.15) and nothing.

Tried to install it with Windows 8.1 and windows 7, nothing.

I tried all the things I found on the net of people with the same number, nothing new.

If I'm pretty quick and I press certain keys we Gets the black screen and stuck in any case, do a few beeps and then go to a kind of sleep and if I keep pressing a key, it makes little noise Cracklin'.

In fact I can't afford a new motherboard so I wanted to know if I can find a solution to the problem, because it's really frustrating and I spent much time trying to understand with your help.

    Sorry for my bad English!

    Hope someone can help me

    See you soon
