ESXi on HP Proliant ML150 G3

Buongiorno a tutti.

HO a disposizione UN HP Proliant ML150 g3 con processore Intel Xeon 5110 a 1600 Mhz with 3 Gb di memoria ram. Avevo intended di photos UN esperienza di virtualizzazione installando ESXi, magari prevedendo UN upgrade dell'hardware. The obbiettivo e di virtualizzare massimo 5 VM con so Linux o Win2003 Server. Che cosa don't think? Molte grazie.

Ciao,.

"con unfortunately he tuo hai server a po' di problemi: l ' ML150 G3 non e ' in HCL (lo sono solo I have G6 http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php) by cui will avere problemi gia' in fase di film. Oltretutto non being in HCL would not be comunque supportato poi.

A parte questo (e to TR riesce ad installare ESXi) by take familiarita' e by some bell'esperimento Può fare' andare, my ti not everything grown prestazioni: UN bicoeur e/3 GB di ram per 5 VM sound pochini (penso in particular al Win2003 e che' ERAP ' esoso di risorse, I have Linux you can ' tenerli a bada "meglio).

Not very ' a server you can use in produzione che.

Se by server upgrade dell 'hardware intendi take piu' potentialit, e' very strada migliore: verification sempre che siano in HCL prima dell' price.

Ciao

Giuseppe

  • Server ProLiant ML150 Gen9 2012 UPS

I have a new server HP Proliant ML150 Gen9 running Windows Server 2012.  I have a UPS 1500VA on it.  The server derives about 10% of the battery capacity, so I have 50-60 minutes of backup power.  The problem is, every time I cut the AC power to the inverter (or he falls for some reason any), the server shuts down and restarts.  There is nothing wrong with the inverter.  I have tested the UPS system, as well as tested the server with a second UPS 1500VA.  Whenever the AC power in the UPS turns off, the server drops and then restarts.  Why this is happening and how to fix it so that the server does not restart, but continues to operate?  It is the power of the battery in the ups, then why is it stall?

  • Problem trying to install esxi on HP Proliant DL380 G7 5.1 - don't start of media

Hello, pretty new VMware and trying to build a test lab while studying the review.  Facing a problem already in step 1.  Hoping for help.

I downloaded VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 5.1.0 - 799733.x86_64.iso site.  Loaded on a USB key (also tried CD) and tried to boot from it on the server, but not likely to recognize it.  Server has no OS installed and running RAID1.

I give probably not enough necessary information then let me know what other info I need to be able to help.

    Thank you!

    sk713,

While using that iso should work I would recommend for your HP Server using the oem version of HP esxi5.1. You can find this iso located here: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/software/vmware/esxi-image.html . Using the OEM makes most of the time because all the specific drivers of HP will be preloaded into this version. Also, if your make a USB ISO I would recommend using rufus located here http://rufus.akeo.ie/ to generate your key usb. In addition, stating what is obvious, but you need to make sure that you select boot from usb or DVD when your system starts.

    Hi guys!

I bought the server and installed custom HP ESXi 5.1 on my Proliant DL 380 G5 (Customize the Images VMware ESXi for HP ProLiant servers) and everything works like a charm!

  • Size HDD 4.1.0 ESXi matters

    Hello

I have a HP ProLiant ML150 G6 2 warehouses with the two of them to 931,25 GB.  I'm having issues, do a hard drive inside a small business 2011 VM server size largest them 256 GB.  Currently, this system has a 200 GB drive for the exchange server and the operating system.  The second disc is 256 GB for shared folders.  I wish I could enlarge readers since they are the two full 90%.  I'm not afraid to add another drive from the data store, but I wish it were 500 GB instead of 256 GB.  Also I'm upgrading in the near future, this machine to ESX1 5.x.  If this update will fix the problem of size of hard drive that I have so I'll do it sooner then later.

I also use the new backup version of PhD.  I'm not able to save the second disc with PHD because it is listed as a drive (persistent) independent.  Is that what I can change this way so I can save this drive also.  I also believe that this is because the size of the hard disk max I have is 256 GB and backup is almost 375 GB if I do two disks.

Some other information that might be useful:

    Processors: E5506 @2. 13 GHz

    Processor sockets: 2

    CPU cores per socket: 4

    Logical processors: 8

    Memory

    Total: 22518,7 MB

    System: 570,7 MB

    VMS: 21948,0 MB

    Product features:
Up to 256 GB of memory
    Up to 4-way virtual SMP
    for ESX Server vCenter agent
    vStorage API
    VMsafe
    dvFilter

    Health status:

    Fields ALL: normal

No, no, unless something unexpected happens (in any case, a backup is always a good idea).

When you upgrade your host (after checking the hardware is supported for ESXi 5.x) interactively using the CD, select 'upgrade, keep VMFS'. This will only enhance the operating system. Once the upgrade of power on the host and click on the "upgrade to VMFS5... "link for the data store.

  • install Esxi on re-usable

    Hello

I have a Hp server, I intend to install Vmware on it. Please help me to sub questions.

1 > what version of Vmware would be appropriate install (ESXi 5.5 or 6.0)

2 > installation procedure of NU METAL.

    Thank you

    ANUP Kumar

    Welcome to the community,

    1. version to be used depends on what is supported on your hardware (see VMware Compatibility Guide) especially with the new generation of server (Gen8/Gen9) you must customize the installation ESXi yourself (inject the necessary drivers) or use the already custom image provided by HP (see Customize of Images VMware ESXi for HP ProLiant servers)
    2. the installation is quite simple. Start the host from an ESXi installation CD and follow the instructions on the screen.

What you can do before installing ESXi is to update the host with the latest firmware available and set up the RAID. Also, don't forget to activate the settings necessary BIOS, like the x - VT (Virtualization Technology)... It is also advisable to define 'High Performance' power management profile.

    Hello

I am trying to install ESXi on my HP DL360p Gen8 Server 5.0. The problem is that we can't see local hard disks that are mirrored on the server. It recognizes only the internal SD memory.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Craig

Make sure that your internal controller firmware is up-to-date and also try to install it by using the image of HP for ESXi: Customize the Images VMware ESXi for HP ProLiant servers

This should work better that you may need some driver embedded specific access disks.

  • vCenter Server and Manager on the same virtual machine and on the same host ESXi update that they manage

    Hi all

I have a question to which I did not respond.

I have an ESXi 5 on Proliant DL380 G7 server host. I want to install vCenter Server and Manager Update on one of the Server 2008 R2 VM on the same host. I know it's possible, but my question is how Update manager will provide updates to the same ESXi host it will run on? The update is applied every time host must spend in maintenance mode and power off the virtual computer running on this subject which means he'll kill VM where vCenter Server and Update Manager is running and the update will fail right?

Is that possible at all or the VCS and UM such as a virtual computer operating point is updated to other guests if you have them or vMotion as VM to another host when you want to update the VCS and UM host is running?

    Thanks in advance.

It will not work.  You will need at least two hosts.  This way you can vMotion the vCenter VM to another host.  From there, you can use VUM.  Otherwise, you will need to patch the host as a stand-alone host.

See below for patching a standalone host

  • ESXi on SD card and virtual machines on a NAS raid-6, performance?

    Hello!

I'm planning an ESXi with HP Proliant DL380 G6 environment, which I already have.

The server has an internal port SD card and according to this article , it is supported to run ESXi from an internal SD card.

    1ST QUARTER

Someone hwo as tried this, what of the downside to this, except the redundancy on the SD card. I had a hard time finding comments on this

    Q2

I intend to run virtual machines on a NAS via iSCSI, (thecus N8800, have another thread on the subject to know if it would work or not here)

With this config I don't need any HD in the DL380.

However, I do not know if a good high-performance NAS is good enough for my VMs and if maybe I need to run the OS on internal disks with higher performance.

First of all, my plan was to run the OS partitions on a raid with internal 10 k SAS drives. And have all the data on the NAS partitions.

But since I'm the new implementation of ESXi on SD or USB I think about the ability to run the DL380 without HD

But, as noted above, is it possible that there is performance enough for that.

Having in mind that my environment is and will be VERY LOW, we speak up seven windows server 2008 and totally 150 users.

But I still haven't any idea if theres a chance that my 7 virtual machines running windows server 2008 will be capped at a lot by running NAS. The Nas will take place with eight 7.2 k RPM Sata disks, they are high of preforming sata drives, but not yet a SCSI raid. I have the ability to run a raid 10 on it instead of 6 and I will consider and try how much better performance, he gives me. 1 TB sata drives are 70% less expensive than the 300 GB 2.5 '' SAS 10 k disks.

Yes, there is a good reason THAT SATA is less expensive than SAS.  SATA drives do not have the same command line than to use SAS drives, more the bottom of basket on SATA relies on the CPU, SAS can unload it on DEMAND.  The discs themselves seem to be competitive, but they are a far cry from the performance of SAS/SCSI, you get good performance until you start to make the e/s simultaneous sessions and hit heavily then you'll start to see performance degrades

If do you some tests and that you are happy with it, still great.  I really hope it works well.  RAID 10 can be a good idea with SATA, which can help to compensate for this loss of performance.

The PIN number is the best way to get the best performance, the physical drives of player throw you into a RAID of any kind the better you will be.

    Seagate Barracuda ES. 2-1 TB - 3.5 "- SATA-300 - 7200 tours min - lunch: 32 MB"

    vs SAS 15 K (that's 2 x the IOPS/sec)

  • Performance of copy of local data store

    Hello

I'm trying to copy the vmdk to a data store (first physical disk) to another store of data (second disk on the same machine) with vSphere Clinet Datastore browser. Performance is horrible: 3000 kbit/s. This behavior is normal? I'm getting much better speed while copying the file to the browser to store data http through LAN to my laptop. Read/write in the management of the virtual computer is also correct.

Virtual machines are all stop, ESXi is in maintenance mode. The server is an HP Proliant ML150 G6.
