  I just installed Windows XP Pro on my Sony laptop. I was previously using XP Home and home, I was able to choose the 'Stand By' mode in the power options when I close the lid of my laptop.  Now in XP Pro is no longer, this option appears.  How can I get my laptop to go to Stand By mode, if it does not appear in the drop down screen?  Thank you!

  Thank you!  All I had to do was go to the page of Sony eSupport, put in my laptop model and download the latest ATI video drivers and utilities.  As soon as I rebooted and the loaded video ATI drivers and software video Radeon mobile the Option Standby reappeared.

  They had me also download and install other drivers and software to complete my re - install.  Thanks again for the advice it is a big help.

  Shawn thought it was bad media so I'm a new disc and received the same error does anyone have an idea what might cause this error?

  Hi sptusch,

  Thanks for posting. Is it a burned disc? If this is you please redownload the image. Also, try the following.

  1. place your Windows XP installation CD and start to her...
  2. Press any button to start the Windows installation (don't worry... we do not actually use the installer at this point)
  3. wait a few moments for the installation program starts, when you see repair an installation of Windows XP using the Recovery Console, and then press the R key
  4. wait until you see this screen, enter the number of your master installation. (Typically 1 to C:\Windows)
  5. press ENTER.
  6. If you are prompted to do so, enter your administrator password. If you don't have one, leave the field blank and press to enter.
  7. from the command prompt, type: chkdsk/r (note the space between chkdsk and / r)
  Allow it to complete undisturbed.
  8. remove the disc, then restart.

  Recovery discs are specific series. You try to perform a system recovery?

  Reset the BIOS once. Restart the computer, press "F2" to connect you to the BIOS screen. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to find the "Exit" button, and then select an option "Load optimized defaults or. Save the settings and exit the BIOS.

  For Windows 8: turn off computer > press Assist key > key press F2 to access BIOS.

  My wife came back with a Sony laptop, a native of Austria, (his mother updated).  Now I want an English version.  In language change, it gives me only German or Austrian German.  I also want to upgrade the hard drive.  I have no discs for drivers Europe ect.  What would be the best course of action.  This laptop is aprox 5 years.

  Thanks for posting. If a German version of XP is currently loaded on the system, and you want English, you will need to buy an English version of XP and install it on the system.

• A Sony laptop is formatted but no disk to reinstall XP.

  I bought a used laptop from Sony and it broke down but the installation diskettes are scratched and do not work.  I tried to get news from Sony, but it won't let me register for some reason any.  Is there a site I could download a new set of diskettes for installation of XP for my Sony laptop at no charge or charge very little.  Or is there any other suggestions?  Pleas help because the computer says there is no OS.  Thank you.

  There is no way to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit; they are different operating systems.

  It must be done with a new installation of the 64-bit operating system.

  First thing to do is to check with Sony to see if 64-bit drivers are available for your machine:

  ESXi is a bare metal hypervisor... you can not implement machines locally. If you want that, then use Hyper-V. You must have a remote client to manage your host and available to virtual machines.

  If you use the battery Toshiba BT on non-Toshiba laptop, you must contact notebook manufacturer for support. Check the support of Sony and download info page and pick-up on the BT support.

  After a clean install, I lost my beautiful environment of Bluetooth on my laptop Sony vgn-bx51-vn in 2005 (a laptop that is like finding teeth of chicken on the Sony site).  I did a smart thing to keep the "Toshiba" Bluetooth file when I finally removed the windows.old folder after the re-installation.  Only smart because it allowed me to compare models with a pilot of 'original' newly downloaded and files utility (including msi files) Sony - the result was that there are a lot of files that is different.

  They newly installed drivers grumble horribly subject knowing incompatabilities with Win 7 (which is just a skin on top of Vista... or so I thought) and refuse to carry you.  They subsequently take you to Toshiba where you end by abandon the search for any useful help in spite of being a good faith user - no?

  Cut to the Chase.  Can someone please help to get the drivers/utilities on my Sony notebook by hook or crook.  NB. I hope just to aspire to the use of Bluetooth for something useful someday but am also irritated by the cul-de-sac which is software policy.

  I'll put up a new laptop Sony VGN-NS20E (Vista OS) to my WAG54G2. As you can see by reading this that I set up a wired connection, but the problem lies in connecting wireless to the WAG. The laptop has a problem with the PIN number I enter when you set up the connection. He tells me it is incorrect. I know that the number is correct, that it is on the lower side of the unit. I have tried various attempts, including the seizure of the generated security key when I put the WAG on my desktop PC and the key generated automatically as the Sony offers me. Nowhere in the instructions does show to mention the PIN number and showing it in the computer. This is my first ever installation of a wireless system, so please forgive me if I'm missing what is obvious, but I desperately need help. I can't even contact a technician because when I hit the ignition key is the trial version of MS office on the laptop used and starts asking me for a product key, which I did not and it won't let me do any more without a product key (thank you Mr. Gates, very clever that one!)

  As you are aware of all wireless (SSID, security key) of your router settings. You can do is, on your computer, click on start - Control Panel - Network and sharing Center - and under NSC on the left side to the high slot 'Task' click 'Manage wireless networks' window, and click on 'Add' and it invites you to select the 3 Options, you must click on 'Manually create a network profile' and on the next screen it prompts you to enter your wireless network (SSID) name Enter your SSID, select the security level and enter your password security key and click Next and the following screen, click on "connect to" now it will show you your connected network. Now, check if you are online.

  I can't answer without landmarks for GTA4. I have no personal experience with the features of laptops.
  It is difficult to extrapolate from the reviewed games, but like I said earlier I think, you'd be in the research and low and medium settings even with a small monitor. You can get 30-40 fps average.
  Games in itself is not the needs of fps, but what frame rate cuts
  below 20 things are starting to become seriously agitated and crashing is more likely.

  People have different opinions on what are the playable fps. I am very pleased with very small minimum SPF with some games. I used to play Crysis with minimum of 20 frames per second.
  I consider 35 average fps + as smooth in most games. Some games seem smoother with lower than other fps.
  Some games like Oblivion have a highly variable rate. Oblivion on my
  the current machine (AMD Phenom 965 @3. 4 GHz / GTX560ti / resolution 1920 x 1080) will always be as low as 20 fps fall sometimes (when it is mounted on a fast horse), but averages closer to 50 frames per second.
  Other games, like Crysis 2 have a very stable fps with only a variation of 10 frames per second.
  However, many insist that anything below 50 FPS is unplayable. I guess they eyes of Superman or a lot of money for high-end machines.

  Personally, I wouldn't bother with GTA4 on your laptop because I like to see
  all the pleasure of the eyes a game can offer.  Old games and games with the drop in spending would be better suited to your laptop - IMO.
  I got GTA Vice City and San Andreas were more fun than GTA4.
