Exadata

We have just a ready exadata server.  I tried to look for the official doc.  However, there folder.

Someone help tell me where is the doc?

Thank you.

There are several ways to transfer files from storage servers depending on your network configuration.  One would be to transfer them to a database as exadata01db01 SCP server and then pull your laptop in the same way that you access the database server now.

  • R12.2 EBS in EXADATA

    Hi all

Someone has known about EBS R12.2 in EXADATA?

I understand exadata is just a RAC in SunOS?

Is it possible to clone EBS in EXADATA to a server instance unique non-exadata?

    Thank you very much

    JC

Yes. I've updated / installed 12.2.4/12.2.5 EBS on Exadata.

You can clone of Exadata to Non-Exadata. You can use RMAN backups to clone as usual.

However, if you use OHCC then you must decompress tables. You can do this using alter table... move; etc.

Since there is no PDB, why make this mistake?  I don't think it's possible to open the PDB$ SEEDS as upgrade?

I had already tried cloning my non - PDB in a PDB here (successfully) file, but then I also met problems with datapatch (in PDB not at CDB patch).  I tried with the options and force database and this succeeded with warnings, but I was unable to open the PDB.  I thought, okay, what oracle says that the whole point of multitenant is to be able to update the plugin, it should be possible to patch a CBD empty.  I can't seem to find much on this point, somebody manage this problem?

What is the best method to establish the original CDB and ensure that it is patched in line with its ORACLE_HOME?

  • RTO in Exadata

I have a few questions on OTN, please help.

    • for the 2 TB database, what is the objective of minimum possible recovery (RTO) for the X 5 - 2 Exadata quarter rack?
    • It is possible to get 2 minutes RTO for the 2 TB database running on rack quarter X 5-2?

    • How long it is necessary to perform a full restore of database 2 TB quarter rack?

    Abhi-

Here are my best attempts to answer your questions:

    • for the 2 TB database, what is the objective of minimum possible recovery (RTO) for the X 5 - 2 Exadata quarter rack?

      • There are so many variables to minimize the resulting RTO of used tools, network, storage, platform, distance/time of latency between physics and sleep, etc., it is difficult to respond to the possible minimum RTO. Theoretically using a solution like Golden Gate in a multi-master (two-way replication active/active) configuration, you may reach an RTO 0. This assumes that your application and database can support such a configuration. A more traditional and less complex DR configuration, using the data guard must be able to measure the RTO in a few minutes.
    • It is possible to get 2 minutes RTO for the 2 TB database running on rack quarter X 5-2?
      • In a real recovery architecture disaster primary/secondary with Exadata, the best solution is Data Guard. If correctly configured and able to minimize latency between main and backup, Server data hold switch or fail should be measured in minutes and should be possible to get almost 2 minutes RTO.
    • What are the ways to reduce the OTR?
    • How long it is necessary to perform a full restore of database 2 TB quarter rack?
      • Depends on where you are restoring from. We have seen great results in the backup and restore of time using a ZFS storage device connected via Infiniband Exadata. With 2 controller 4 disc tray configuration we were able to restore a database of 2 TB in just 8 minutes.

  • Update 11.2.0.4 to 12.1.0.2 grid on Exadata

I am currently planning and tests of our upgrade to 12 c.  Given that our data on Exadata machine and find all the databases RAC, I will be upgrading the instance of grid first.  I've successfully upgraded the grid instance on my test server, but I wonder if I'm missing the preparation steps before you run the upgrade.  Specifically, are there backups or whatever I have to do for ASM?  I know that the instance of grid is not a database, but should I save in case I have to do a full restore of the grid instance?  On my test instance I turned off the server for an upgrade, and then was able to get successfully grid back up using option - downgrade.

Is that all that I'm missing?

    Current context:

    Exadata quarter Rack

    All 11.2.0.4 databases

    Hello

    1. you can save the prior agreement of grid to upgrade (I mean after a stop in case if you plan to remove these binaries)

2 take the backup of configurations to/is/opt/oracle regarding the grid

    3. to be honest, you run the place, then you are on safe downgrade to 11204 (prepare for the planning of the down-grade n-box of questions)

  • Exadata as repository for ODI

    Hello

I'm new on exadata and odi 12 c. This is perhaps a silly question - I tried searching but couldn't find an appropriate response.

We plan to use ODI 12.1.3.0.0 with Exadata. Can we use exadata 12 c as a repository for ODI?

In the matrix certification I couldn't find exadata separately.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi JAC,

When you have an Oracle database installed inside your Exadata machine you can surely create repositories ODI in there. ODI repositories are actually sets of tables that should be stored in relational database management systems like Oracle. Other RDBMS systems are also possible to create repositories of ODI, for example, IBM DB2, MySQL, MS SQL Server.

  • Exadata to no Exadata Data Guard

    Hi all

I was wondering if its possible to have a custodian of data between an exadata at the JRC to a single instance of Linux server with a ZFS storage pool.

I have experience in a RAC standby single instance with data protection, it is not my problem.

What I was I was wondering if there is a question in this configuration with the exadata, in theory is a database platform Linux with the support of the Supreme Constitutional Court

Since I have the HCC support with the ZFS storage pool, I think it's possible.

    Thanks for any advice.

    CMF

    HI THE CMF.

It's certainly an interesting use case: have a database Eve supported ZFS device in order to use the HCC when Eve is opened.  Of course, a single ZFS supported by the database instance will be considerably less ability than your Exadata, so I guess it will be a read-only reporting system than a true disaster recovery environment.  If you plan on running large queries on ZFS - backed HCC data, keep in mind that, unlike Exadata, decryption of the HCC is not unloaded to storage, then the available CPU of the server database to manage the workload increased.

    Hello

We recently had a data center move and moved some exadata machines to a new location.

    There are a few things to consider before the move is going;

    (1) prepare the network on the new data center and make sure all connectivity (for example, you can remote access to it) work.  In our case, the new centre has same network IPs.

    (2) download the seller who transported material Machines.

    (3) on the last day before moving, stop the Exadata Machine (close the database, RAC nodes db stop, knots of cell, endless tape etc...)

    (4) turn off the Exadata Machine

    (5) disconnect all network cables.

    (6) let the equipment cool.

    (7) transportation to the new location and move the machine to fix the Bay and wait for the machines to be acclimated

    (8) connect the network cables.

    (9) power on Exadata.

  • Exadata X 5 extra processors enable eighth Rack

    Hello

We buy Exadata 5 X 8 Rack. He has 36 central units.

Oracle representatives told us that, if necessary, other 36 CPU can be activated by administrators (total will become 72 processors).

Please, can you tell us if it is easy to light these additional 36CPUs, later, because we need?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

    I know, it's for Oracle Exadata Database Machine X 5 - 2

    • The Minimum cores per server is 40% of the physical hearts
    • Maximum cores per server 36
    • You can get

    10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26,

    core of 28, 30, 32, 34 or 36

I suppose that for your situation, you will have 18 leading to 36 threads,
Then, you can proceed to 36 which lead to thread 72,

Anyway, the answer to your question is Yes, it is very easy,

He activation just new carrots, (without change of phy or add)

    E.g.

    DBMCLI > DBSERVER ALTER pendingCoreCount = new_number_of_active_physical_cores
    Then restart the server

  • Migration to Exadata at non-exadata system option

What are the migration options to move a database out of box exadata? Here's the situation.

Instance RAC node source DB - 2 (11g) running on Exadata

Target instance DB - 2 node RAC (11g) on Linux + ASM storage

    1. If I do a simple RMAN backup restore then ideally it should work because from the point of view of DB, it is all the same. Question - iswhat is happening at the tables of the OHCC? will they both as - is, and then I need to decompress and make them usable?

    2. what import-using data pump export? How it works with no EHCC on target?

3 what user depending on backup restores? (backup to warm cold/backup)

    4. can I use transportable tablespace for cases where the endians are different? or transportable database when the endians are the same?

I don't understand this data Guard configuration could be one of the option as exadata supports have DR running on environmental non-exadata but DataGuard cannot be a good option for each unique data base.

I called "considerations to instantiate or duplicating a database on Exadata (Doc ID 1206603.1)", for what it looks like to-we use double RMAN as well.

    Thank you

    Aerts

    Hi AEK.

Thanks for the details on your environment - it's much more useful than a single sentence 'How to migrate my Exadata' type question.  To answer your specific questions

    1. If I do a simple RMAN backup restore then ideally it should work because from the point of view of DB, it is all the same. Question is - what happens to the tables of the OHCC? will they both as - is, and then I need to decompress and make them usable?

Exactly: you must do an ALTER TABLE MOVE to read materials after the migration of tables

    2. what import-using data pump export? How it works with no EHCC on target?

I have not tested it myself, but I would expect the initial table creation to fail because of the clause 'COMPRESS for', but you could previously create the table without compression HCC or potentially even a transformation in the data pump configuration.

3 what user depending on backup restores? (backup to warm cold/backup)

Even with regard to the RMAN: you get an HCC-compressed object, you can read without a TABLE ALTER MOVE.

    4. can I use transportable tablespace for cases where the endians are different? or transportable database when the endians are the same?

Yes you can use the endians, transportable tablespaces across but it requires a process of file conversion, and it's quite tedious.  This conversion is not required when the endians are the same.  And if conversion to Exadta Linux to Linux x 86 no-Exadata, you should not need to convert.

    5. I referred to as "Considerations to instantiate or duplicating a database on Exadata (Doc ID 1206603.1)", that it seems like--we can use RMAN copies as well.

Well Yes, duplicate RMAN should you get the same results as if you were doing a separate backup and restore, wihtout should save the backup somewhere.

And finally, if you need compression you get with HCC, you can consider buying storage Oracle ZFS or plunder, which includes the support of the Supreme Constitutional Court without Exadata.

    HTH!

  • How to learn Exadata? Didactic material useful and practical pointers practice?

Several times I was asked this question on the best way to learn Exadata. You want to get expert advice about this. Please comment.

    Thank you

    Aerts

    Aerts,

For more well rounded learning, I recommend the "Exadata Database Machine workshop" course of Oracle University.

The books already mentioned in this thread is a good complement. But you'll get the most out of the course.

Because of the uniqueness in how work storage servers I do not believe there is no publicly available VM Exadata.

    I hope this helps!
