Excel in Indesign data merge

Hi, I have a spreadsheet excel with a column size, height and width.   What I want to do is to import this list into Indesign and run a script creating frames / boxes.   In addition to this list the merger and creation of boxes, I hope to have these boxes align in a linear drawing each session upwards with another color.

Thanks in advance,

excel to Indesign.jpg

Your request involves a few basic bricks such as:

-loading CSV data (since you can not load by default EXCEL)

-Adding images to a page (script guide is full of samples)

So start to export EXCEL to CSV, and then look around for the loading of the CSV. Come to the era with a snippet of yours we can comment on.

    Hello

    I have an Excel spreadsheet of customer data that needs to be transformed into a several doc page impression.

    Each participant in an event gets a page each details listed. I can do this with a fusion of database.

    However, each client has chosen certain things that they are interested and the customer has created a matrix, as shown, where 1 means that they are interested in the subject in the heading of column and 0 means that they are not.

    Is there a way, a script or extension or something that will allow me to data merge these 1s and 0s in a simple list of subjects they have chosen.

    My next option is to try to do something with the Excel file but I am far from an expert in office.Excelgrab.jpg

    You must add one or more columns tot eh spreadsheet and use some kind of logical formula to fill based on zeros and ones, then merge this column.

    Hello

    Let me illustrate what I try to achieve:

    I'm doing the name cards with the name and the language on them for about 100 people.

    I know how to import excel for the text and image data, but here's the catch:

    How can I configure what he shoots only in images of languages that speaks of the person AND in such a way that they align in the Center. (So 3 images in the case of 3 languages, aligned Center, 1 for 1, center aligned)

  • How do you get the layers work correctly when you create a document merged into the InDesign data merge feature?

    Hey everybody,

    I working on a card game using data with a .csv file merge and spin in unusual behavior when you create a merged document when my master document had layers.  Imagine I had a layer of structure that looks like this:

    Layer has
    -< DataMergeFrameA >

    -Cooked in the static element
    Layer B

    -Cooked in the static element B
    -< DataMergeFrameB >

    -< DataMergeFrameC >

    Layer C
    -Cooked in the static element C

    -< DataMergeFrameD >

    Preview, this hierarchy is respected and the image is superb.

    When I create my merged document that each individual card includes this editable structure:

    Layer has
    -< DataMergeFrameA >

    Layer B

    -< DataMergeFrameB >

    -< DataMergeFrameC >

    Layer C

    -< DataMergeFrameD >

    And the order in which the elements are drawn resembles what happened past:

    -< DataMergeFrameA >

    -< DataMergeFrameB >

    -< DataMergeFrameC >

    -< DataMergeFrameD >

    -Cooked in the static element

    -Cooked in the static element B

    -Cooked in the static element C

    I would * really * like solving this problem without going through a column of data fusion with just the same picture in each area or something stupid like that, especially because some of my other static elements are generic text boxes. Is it possible to apply the stacking order in a merged document?

    I have attached a screenshot of the preview and the merged document.
    * WARNING: The main art is a temporary placeholder *.

    The one on the left is how it looks in preview. The second is the merged document. The major problems are that a) static grass image should appear on the art main and b) main image overlays areas of main text on the left. How can-

  • How can I generate a data merge that includes a barcode in excel spreadsheet for InDesign?

    Can you please indicate whether the following process is possible in InDesign CS 5.5? (Mac OS 10.8.2).

    We need to create a data merge that includes a barcode. The fusion of data concerns several thousand records.

    We have a customer supplied Excel spreadsheet that contains seven fields, which is a number which ultimately must print a barcode when we do the data to merge in InDesign.

    As you expected, the classic six data fields merge perfectly - but we can't find a way to make the code barcode printed properly within the data merge.

    We looked at several possible solutions without success.

    Some of the solutions suggest a plug-in for Excel convert the number to a code bar while still in the spreadsheet - but this does not come across properly when import us the CSV file in the InDesign data merge.

    We studied some third party software applications, but neither gives the complete solution that we need. Some, for example, seem to create the bar code in the Excel worksheet but do not produce the barcode correctly when us data merge in InDesign; and some we will create a unique bar code in InDesign, but have no automated way to recover thousands of numbers in Excel and turn them into bar codes.

    We have you met also possible solutions "police" but have had no success with these either.

    Previous employment, only to produce us entrusted to a specialist mailing company, who assured us that they have produced all the work (very quickly) in InDesign. They, understandably, don't tell us how they did it. But, given the speed with which they have produced work for us, we imagine - with the correct software - the whole process is easy to do.

    Can you please specify?

  • Data merge help please!

    First of all, let me say that I am quite new in InDesign, so this can be pretty basic for you, but I'm going to be as accurate as possible.  I am putting together a directory of photos simple enough for our Church and has serious problems with the InDesign data merge.  I have my numbers (Excel) document divided into fields and saved in a .csv file, I am able to select it as the source document and provide the information in my target document.  The problem I encounter is that no matter what I do it's split up my data in separate documents.

    Thus, for example, I have my source list .csv file as follows (more detailed but it is the base):

    Name, address 1, address 2, phone 1

    SMITH, John, 123 random circle, any where, USA 12345, 555-1212

    Now I have my destination InDesign document what follows, clicked on directly from my window of data merge:

    < < name > >

    < < address 1 > >

    < < address 2 > >

    < < Phone 1 > >

    However, my overview displays the following text:

    SMITH, John

    Random circle 123

    Nothing else shows until I click on the tab 'next' for the next document, and then it will show:

    Any where

    USA 12345

    555-1212

    And as a result this page it with the email address... will follow that back to return to the next entry in my database.

    Suggestions?  Ideas?  I was wondering if it has something to do with commas... but I tried going one last, address 1, city, State, Zip format first and it still will fill part of address at a time.  I'm just at my wit's end... Please help!

    For a multiple recorsd merger you must configure exactly a set of placeholder fields ID will dupicate them, as well as the rest of the page (if set up on the page of the document) as many times that can hold using the spacing you specify. If the fields are on the master page, other things on the master page, like headers and footers, will not be duplicated. Many beginners tripped upwards on how to implement a merger of several record.

  • InDesign CS4 Excel data merge on the master page problem

    Hi all

    I had the following problem with an automated data merge document. He reads only the first row of cells in the document. That's what I did.

    Examples of data

    Excel

    Colum A Cel A1: Articlenummer

    Cel A2 12345

    Cel A3 5465

    Colum B Cel B1 Description

    Cel B2 Test 1

    Cel B3 Test 2

    Barcode Colum C Cel C1

    Cel C2 90000

    Cel C3 900001

    On the master page, I made a layout with the folling containers. The diagram below is for 1 item.

    Text for Articlenummer container

    Contatiner text for Description

    For the barcode text container

    I copied the three containers on the page which resulted in the master page with 40 containers for each item.

    I went data merge and connected the TXT document to the first set of containers. InDesign reads the data and place it correctly. But Indesign doenst copy the data in the row of the cell in the following sets of containters. If I connect the document to the next set of containers that indesign don't bed that the data of the first line of the cell which results in a document that contains only the same data.

    Somehelp with that does

    Best regards

    Phillip

    I suspect what happens, that's what I described in my previous post, PARAGRAPH:

    «Indesign takes what he considers a "record" what on the page, that is from the top left to the bottom right of the page, any indesign objects can enter it considers only a record.»

    It's a little hard to explain so I'll demonstrate in images using a simple merge

    If the finished merger looks like

    but, if a chart is placed on the same page (whether the page master or not, doesn't matter) this is where things can go wrong

    but this is easily seen in the preview

    so, when you perform a merge of data with multiple records, the data of the variable must be treated separately to static data (items that will be on every page as a background, or in this example, the smiley face).

    If the merger on a master page, static elements must be on a master page above and variable must be on a master BASED ON the static captain.

    If the merger on a standard page, static elements must be on the master page. The advantage with fusion on a master page is that data remain linked. The downside is that a page can contain variable data in the merged file.

    hope it makes sense.

  • Data merge InDesign Photos

    I have an excel inventory spreadsheet and I'm doing the flyers of stock.  Data merges completely fine, but photos will not. Here is a very simplified version of the information available to me.  The Indesign file will have 5 photos of total, but it transfers any of them.  I have the excel file and the pictures located in the same folder as well.

    Header 1 Header 2 Header 3 ' @image ' @image ' @image
    DataDataDataImage 1Image 2Image 3

    I did some research online and watched the video several and still can't find what I'm doing wrong.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    I found the problem; It's in your database file.

    When I deleted the Description that all merged column correctly, so I took a quick look. At the end of the text in the first record of this column, there is a return. (I couldn't see it directly by pasting the text into InDesign)

    On a new copy of the data file, I deleted this return, and the fusion worked correctly.

  • Large Volume of data merge issues with Indesign CS5

    I recently started to use Indesign CS5 to design a piece of mail marketing which requires the fusion of data from Microsoft Excel.  With small spots up to 100 pieces, I don't have any problems.  However, I need to merge 2 000-5 000 items of data through Indesign on a daily basis and my lap top current was not able to manage the merger of more than 250 pieces at a time, and the merge process 250 takes 30-45 minutes if I have the chance and the software not crushed.

    To resolve this problem, I bought a desktop computer with a second generation processor Core i7 and 8 GB of memerory, thinking that would solve my problem.  I tried to merge the track 1,000 of data with this new computer, and I was forced to restart Adobe Indesign after 45 minutes of no results.  I then merged 500 pieces and the task was completed, but the process took less than 30 minutes.

    I need help with this problem because I can't find another software which can design my mail merge the way that Indesign can, however, the time it takes to merge large volumes of data is very frustrating because the software crash from time to time the after waiting a good 30-45 minutes to complete.

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    It's in the menu data merge, 'Export to PDF '.

  • Variable data merging with images and Excel

    I have a question about the installation of variable data files. I'll put up an excel file for a small number of badges of identity (like 50). The headers are all set up as variable data of regular text (first, last, agency, etc.), but on the last section the variable information is a small graphic (circle, square, triangle, etc...) How you configure in excel to recognize that this is a graph when you import into Indesign using the data merge feature.

    Is it still possible? I have attached the worksheet so that you can better see what I'm talking about.

    For the graphical content, add the @ symbol at the beginning of the name of the field in the header and put the path to the image in the cell of each record.

    I think it is covered in the help topic well enough, then you might want to go back and read it.

  • Export unique PDF pages to InDesign after the data merge

    So I got this hitch with my last job that I can't move.

    I'm generating nearly 700 labels of bag with the help of the data fusion which is each in their own PDF file with a unique file name.

    My current process is:

    1. Open my file in InDesign.
    2. Data merge all labels like "creating a merged document.
    3. Run a script that does some minor changes and then automatically add bookmarks based on a paragraph style.
    4. Export a single pdf file containing all the labels.

    Now, that's the thing that I meet. Initially, I thought open the PDF in acrobat and then divide the file based on the bookmark names - that works very well. However, I also need convert the text to outlines text, then the fonts don't get replaced by our supplier in China (long story). Ideally, I discovered Acrobat can do it himself, but unfortunately it can not be used for several single paged pdf files in the Action Wizard. If I vectorize the text before you split the pdf file, the bookmark naming convention does not seem to work...

    I thought that this might work, but if there was a script that could export PDFs page of InDesign itself and use the paragraph style name. And then I could put just a pdf preset to underline the text. I can't find anything like those well...

    So there's my pickle. I would be grateful for your suggestions!

    Thanks in advance!

    An any other Acrobat Pro script may be worth a try if you want to split based on. CSV:

    /* https://forums.adobe.com/message/5551746 */
    var CSV = function(data) {
        var _data = data.split('\r\n');
        for(var i in _data) {
            if(_data[i].length > 0) {
                console.println(i + ' ' + _data[i]);
                _data[i] = _data[i].split(',');
            }
        }

        var _head = _data.shift();
        return {
            length: function() {
                return _data.length - 1;
            },
            getRow: function(row) {
                return _data[row];
            },
            getRowAndColumn: function(row, col) {
                if(typeof col !== 'string') {
                    return _data[row][col];
                } else {
                    col = col.toLowerCase();
                    for(var i in _head) {
                        if(_head[i].toLowerCase() === col) {
                            return _data[row][i];
                        }
                    }

                }
            }
        };
    };
    this.importDataObject("CSV Data");
    var dataObject = this.getDataObjectContents("CSV Data");
    var csvData = new CSV(util.stringFromStream(dataObject));
    if(this.numPages != csvData.length()) {
        app.alert("Number of pages & CSV row count inconsistent");
    } else {
        for(var i = 0; i < this.numPages; i++) {
            this.extractPages({nStart: i, cPath: csvData.getRowAndColumn(i, 'PartnerHQ_Id') + '.pdf'});
        }
    }

    Note that the column header is supposed to be (this can of course be changed on line 41 of the script code):

  • 9.2 CC InDesign crashes when you open the data merge Panel

    I have a document that is in a book (for multiple files) with cross-references to other documents in the book. I also almost all of the content in an inCopy assignment in order to manage in multiple versions/layouts with the same content. All references are separated InCopy as page numbers vary from book to book.

    That said, so that other documents in the work of book very well, this one is having issues. Whenever I try to view the data merge Panel, it crashes. I had a similar problem with other files where if I try to select a merge data source it would break. I've solved the problem of the registration of a copy, the deletion of all pages of the document, by selecting the data merge source (who now works with any content on the pages), and then copy and paste the content on the pages back. Not sure why this works, but it did.

    The problem is that I tried the same solution on this document and it worked until I tried to click on the data merge Panel after you follow these steps, inDesign crashes. If I open the data merge Panel, THEN open the document, it crashes as well.

    I'll try to redo this with panel data fusion open while I copy and paste content back in and see if I can refine the problematic content if that is the question.

    Other documents are open so that they are accessible?

  • Why doesn't InDesign CS6 merge my data?

    We just started working NCR for customers. As I had no idea how to merge data I had someone come and show me how to do.

    My first jobs in the NCR are work sheets, so I fit two on a page and need 2 pieces of data on the.

    I did the spreadsheet, as I showed and saved as a CSV file. I then used the data merge to place the info if necessary. However, when I click on create a merged document it comes up with a kind of buffering of the symbol and freezes. InDesign then follows by failing to respond.

    He has really confused me because I tried again several times and at one time given, it worked right away, so I'm sure that I did it correctly the process. While I had a time stupid and forgot to save before the second set of data. I am now at square one.

    Is this a problem for all of you who merges the data and what someone aware of how I can fix this?

    We need to get there sooner rather than later.

    No, and maybe that's the problem.

    Data fusion is a process in several steps. First is to create your data file (which I think you did, if you saved the spreadsheet as .csv).

    Next is to create a new 1-page file as a template. Now, go to window > utilities > DataMerge to open the data merge Panel. Idir the flyout in the data merge Panel, choose Select Data Source... and find your CSV file. You should now see line 1 and line 2 listed in the window.

    Add two text frames in the document where you want the numbers and drag the line 1 tag in the first and the tag Row 2 in the second.

    To the merge type, select single record per page.

    Press the merge.

    You should get a new file with 50 pages to 50 records.

  • Data merge InDesign CS6 not properly position it on the page.

    July 3, 2013

    I use Indesign cs6... I worked in indesign from cs.  I did many complex data merges in 5.5 and before, but now in CS6, when I do to create the pages merged, it my first one of the centers and throw the rest out of the page.  I mean multiple images to a page.  Unique to a page works fine.

    In addition, I worked with windows xp and now I'm on a Windows 7 computer.  Don't know if that makes a difference, but thought it was worth mentioning.

    I tried all the settings in the windows of data merge.

    I tried to place on the page in different places, but when it merges it is always in the Center (first element).

    I looked for plug-ins, patches, patches online and found nothing that will help you.

    I'm running out of things to try and find any help or patches on the adobe Web site.

    I have a job with 1200 pieces (4 upwards) coming soon and I don't want to have to fix each page individually.

    Thanks in advance

    Rhonda

    You have not used the tool Page on this file, you have?

    In addition, would be worth trying a new file for the model and the copy of the presentation of the card in it (or rebuild). It can be damaged at this point.
