  • Need help of the correct SAS 2.5 upgrade option "HDD for PowerEdge T620

I want to add the disk to an existing Dell PowerEdge T620 (service tag GTPKDV1) storage. The vehicle currently has 7 300 GB SAS 2.5 "hot, two virtual drives (300 GB RAID1) and RAID5 1116 GB replaceable drives. There are 16 bays.

Browsing the Dell store for server upgrade parts I am surprised not to see that two form factors for of 2.5 "10K rpm SAS drives. only 300 or 900 GB. Nothing to do with higher speeds or more capacity! And I'm not even sure, one of the search results is really 2.5 "because the Web site product description does not indicate the size at all.

    300 GB of the manufacturer: 15NM6 | Dell reference: 342-2016 (accessories.dell.com/.../productdetail.aspx

900 GB of the manufacturer: TPMWF | Dell reference: 342-4143 (http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Hard_Drives_Storage/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=bsd&cs=cabsdt1&sku=342-4143&mfgpid=225343)

The 900 GB is described as a hybrid drive. What is a drive hybrid? Isn't SAS, SAS?

There are several results that seem to be variations on the 300 GB 10 K 2.5 "disk SAS6. They are all the same product? Why the different reference numbers?

The H710p wouldn't even try to use the 300 to rebuild the 1.8 TB drive failure, as the reader will not be perceived as a Hot Spare for this virtual disk. A 300 GB global Hot Spare would be able to rebuild any 300 GB or more small disc. If the Global Hot Spare is a 1.8 to it should rebuild one of these virtual drives.

  • Cannot install ESXi 5.5 on Dell PowerEdge T620

    Hello

I have a Dell PowerEdge T620 server and I want to install VMW VSphere Hypervisor 5.5 on that.

I tried 2 ways above, but they are not successful.

    Track 1:
-Start with DVD integrated with server
    -Config for RAID 5
-Choose the option "VMW ESXI 5.5 HDD"
-Error: "the provided raid configuration is not supported" and force reboot me.

    Track 2:
    -L' boot using an ESXI 5.5 CD-ROM
-Follow the step on Setup screen.
-Scan disk step HARD to install the process is too long too long scan...

I hope that an idea can help me solve that.

    Thank you!

You use the ESXi Dell installation?

  • Hard disk replacement 5 RAID PowerEdge T620

    Hi all

Here's the situation.  One of my clients has a Dell PowerEdge T620 that raids.  Group 0 is RAID 1 with discs hard 0 and 1.  Group 1 is a RAID 5 with 2-6 drives.  The RAIDs are hardware RAID and software either.  I do CTRL + R to join RAID controller at the start of the server system.

6 player came with a predictive failure (flash green once, once orange flash, no flash, repeat).  It is not indicating that it is bad in the RAID software.  In the Dell software manage Open, he states that it is a non-critical error.  I called Dell and they sent a disc of the same type, style and size.

Here's my question: since this is a critical server what is the best way to replace the hard drive and the RAID to rebuild.  Don't want to lose all the data on this since it is an EMR system.

Yes, I guess that the RAID will rebuild itself, so I have to ask if this is also true, a RAID 5 system will rebuild itself when a hard drive is restarted?

    Thank you

    Hello

    kwilkegrizzlies
Since it is a critical server what is the best way to replace the hard drive and the RAID to rebuild.
    • You must ensure that you have a valid backup first tested
    • Run a check consistency before replacing or drive offline
    • Disconnected the disk before replacing
    • Hot the disc if you have a bottom of basket. Turn off and unplug replace it if cable.

You can use OpenManage Server Administrator for offline consistency checks and initiate.

    Thank you

Worst case, you can resell, install a server on it, operating system etc and put it in your living room to show off :)  The case of CaseLabs looks cool, but you'll have to do the same kind of work at home get compatible (and inter compatible) parts for it.

As I said, there is a good chance that everything will be installed and working fine... just to prepare for the unknown, when venturing off the beaten path.  If you have someone knowledgeable who can at least get you headed down a direction where there is a visibility for success, it would be useful... good luck!

  • PowerEdge T620 mounting rack for Tower conversion kit

    Hi all

So we made a mistake on our order of Dell Server PowerEdge T620.  We ordered as a half-rack server when the client needs a server in a tower configuration.  We need a kit or the numbers of room but a simple that will allow us to put a lid on one side which would be the top once feet for the background and a tower on the server so it can stand on the ground a little.

We called ProSupport and parts Department for a for a top coating and the feet part number and all that we continue more is sorry that we do not offer in the framework.  Kind of frustrating when you order a conversion kit from a tower to a rack installation, but nothing to go back to a tour of a rack mounting.  There must be a number of room so where some how.  Everyone knows this if so any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Help me to confirm THAT RAID 5 of my new server is configured correctly. PowerEdge T620, server 2012

I just received my new Dell T620 server today, I ordered it with (4) 2 hard drives in a RAID5 configuration to

I also configured it with a 80 GB operating system partition when I bought it.

He got today and I'm a little confused how his watch hard drives.

I have the 80 GB OS Partition, shows that the c volume which is good.

Then, I have four other volumes...

    D: 1.8 to DataPart2
    E: 1.8 to DataPart3
    F: 57.9 GB DataPart4
    G: 1.72TB DataPart1

I know that I can go in 2012 under file and storage server parameters and joining them in a Storage Pool and it must show a letter then, correct?

But, is this the way I need to do this? And how can I confirm that RAID5 is working, so that if one disk fails someday, I can swap just outside like I should be able to.

I just thought that if I ordered the server with 4 disks in a RAID5 configuration and make a 80 GB OS partition, said that when I had the server I have a volume for the operating system and the other to the data.

    OK... explanation:

    • Each RAID array/virtual disk that is managed by the RAID controller is presented as another "drive" Windows.
    • Windows cannot use a 'disc' greater than 2 TB, unless it is a GPT disk.
    • Windows cannot START on a GPT disk, except if it is installed on a UEFI system.

By not checking a UEFI/GPT option, it would have been necessary to create virtual disks (at least the boot VD) less than 2 TB so that Windows can use and starts to him (why they did additional smaller VD, I'm not sure).

At this point, you have four options:

    1) live with it as is (I personally wouldn't).

    (2) will not require reinstalling:

    • Use the 1.8 TB VD0 because the OS 'drive '.
    • Delete 1,2,3 VD
    • Create a large 3.7 GB VD1
    • Convert to GPT, and use it as a 'disc' that you can partition as necessary or desired separate data

(3), it will have to reinstall:

    • Removal of all VD
    • The switch in the UEFI boot mode
    • Set up a big 6 TB VD0
    • Reinstall Windows on it and partition as needed or desired.

(4), it will have to reinstall or backup/restore:

    • Removal of all VD
    • Leave the startup mode in the BIOS
    • Set up a small 80 GB VD0 to which you will install the operating system
    • Set up a large VD1
    • Convert to GPT, and use it as a 'disc' that you can partition separate data as needed or desired.

  • PowerEdge T620 add stand-alone drive

I looked up the largest part of 3 hours trying to figure out how to simply add a simple stand-alone SCSI drive to my system.  Currently have 2 500 GB in Raid 1 drives - and want to leave it like that.  I can not just plug a drive or two in bays open on the front, hit CTRL-R and access the S110 screen put in place virtual disks?   Seems as simple as that, except that physical disks do not arise for me to create virtual disks.  I know I'm missing something here...

That's what I bought for this purpose:

    Western Digital RE4 WD5003ABYX 500 GB SATA2 7200 RPM 64 MB Enterprise hard drive 3.5 inch

Even when I start the server, I don't not even a flashing of the Green led on the new disc - as he did not even get power.

I would really like to add 2 drives and make a further Raid 1 configuration, but once again, it seems that hard drives are not yet getting started.

    Any ideas?

SCSI is not supported on modern servers. I think you meant SAS (Serial-Attached SCSI).

What holes were used to mount the drive in the carrier? Use the holes that put the reader as close as POSSIBLE to the bottom of basket.

  • Reference Dell T620 recognizes only 4 of 8 hard drives installed

I bought 7 additional 2 TB drives for my Dell PowerEdge T620, delivered with just 1 such disk is almost a year now.  My model has 8 bays of HARD drive in front and after the installation of 7 new disks that I note that only four drives in the top row of the berries are recognized by THE system BIOS.  I'm running Ubuntu Server 12.04.4 and deliverance 'fdisk-l' lists only four disks, as well (sda, b, c, d).  I hope to set up the disks in a RAID 6 configuration if I can get the system to see eight - is it a simple BIOS setting change?  Please tell me that I don't need another controller or similar?  If it can help on the side of the Dell Support of things, my ST is deleted by the privacy policy.  Kind regards

    Mark D.

In order details, Service number, listed only one RAID controller is the S110 RAID controller onboard.  The S110 is the lower-end controller you can get.  IF you are still using the controller, then the problem is your controller only supports a maximum of 4 disks, AND it does not support RAID 6 (only 0,1,5,10). You should use the H700 for a storage system like that anyway (or the H310 minimum).

If you actually have a high-end controller, then you are very probably absent the second cable SAS controller to the bottom of basket.

  • The expired timer.

We have several Dell PowerEdge T620 servers in remote locations within our company.  Each of them is to launch at random the next event and far I've found no information about the message or how to resolve.  I hope someone here can help me understand this.

Message of the event: the watchdog time has expired.

    Severity: critical

Detailed description: the operating system, or even an application could not communicate with the BMC (BMC) in the period.

Recommended action: verify the operating system, application, hardware and system for exception events event log.

    System model: PowerEdge T620

    Supply status: WE

Operating system: Microsoft Windows Server 2012, x 64 Standard Edition

While I'm working in the world of desktop support for a long time, I'm relatively new to Dell servers.  I try to help another, too stressed, very overworked administrator with this question.  Is someone can spare the time to help me know where to look for better understanding on what might happen, I would really appreciate it.  I'm willing and able to learn if I can help with some chores a colleague plate.  Thank you.

I apologize for the delay in responding.  After reviewing the mistakes and doing some research, the error is software v7.2 of Dell OpenManage. Our recommendation is to update your OpenManage version 7.3 and monitor.  This version should address the timeout error in this particular service gives the watchdog error.

    Kind regards

You have a great Setup except:

Your storage selections are upgraded the WAY compared to the rest of the configuration of the system.  Even for 30 users moderates-light your bottleneck will be your storage subsystem.  7200 RPM drives will be slow to access files (if your users will access mainly the server as a file server), and the H310 will not help.  The H710 will improve things, but I recommend the disks SAS 10 K or 15 K WITH the H710, OR if you really must have a lot more storage, put 4 or 6 drives in a RAID 10.

  • Cannot start a virtual machine with more than 1 CPU socket added

I've set up a few boxes of ESXi 5.5 with the free license in recent weeks, they have all been without problems so far. All 4 servers have the same exact hardware

    Environment:

    Dell Poweredge T620

    E5-2630 2 Intel CPU

40 GB OF DDR3 ECC RAM

    ESXi is installed on 2 x 146 GB 15 K SAS drives RAID-1

Data for virtual machines store are 8 x 600 GB 10 K SAS RAID-10 disc

Guest operating system is Server2012r2 on all virtual machines

Installed it on ESXi 3 previous were conducted with custom ESXi 5.5 Dell without problem.

The 4th is where I will have questions. I used the following ESXi installed just in case there is a bug somewhere

    5.5 of VMware ESXi

    ESXi 5.5 customized by Dell

    5.5 U1 of VMware ESXi

Any version of the ESXi I use I can't have a virtual machine to begin with more than 1 CPU socket added to it. The virtual machine does not start even the VMWare BIOS. I tried the Bios EFI as well with no luck. The error message I get in the events is ' fatal error VMware ESX: vcpu (vcpu-X)-X:VM - entry failed; Valid VMCS (error code 8). The vcpu-X is always another. I have attached the log file is created. If I give the VM 1 single processor TI starts very well. I'm at a loss as to what could be the issue.

Problem is solved. I caught another server with identical hardware, verified it worked properly, then started to swap parts between them. Turned out to be CPU1. Once this has been replaced from a working server I have not had any problems. Warranty has been appealed.

    Thanks for all the help!
