External HD fat32 partition is not mounted

I've updated to Yosemite to El Capitan 10.11.2. My external hard drive has 2 partitions, 1 used for Time Machine, the other partition formatted in Fat32.

Everything works fine so far.

I had to make some adjustments in SIP (csrutil toggle) to get my wifi working. All ok again.

After a few days without problems, I have updated to 10.11.3. The partition of Time Machine is fine, but the Fat32 partition rises no more.

In Bootcamp Windows, the fat32 partition is mounted works ok.

On another external hard drive, I still have El Capitan 10.11.2, when I boot this disk partition Fat32 works well again. I drive repair, etc.

When I start again from El Capitan 10.11.3 the Fat32 partition is not recognized, is not accessible. USB drives in Fat32 are not too recognized.

SIP clear has no help.

All this seems to be related to the SIP, kext of unsigned drivers.

Adjusted recovery csrutil Terminal, mode, enabled - no kext

Now everything works fine, including my wifi dongle.

I'll try to find the updated drivers for my WD drive.

  • WD My Passport drive external drive will not mount once my Macbook Pro is already on

    Hello

I actually had this problem for a year or two, but I'm finally getting bugged to this topic enough to see if it can be 'fixed '.

I have a 2 to WD My Passport portable HD connected to my macbook pro via an external (wall outlet) powered TRUST 5 x USB3 Hub.  If everything is connected, when I start the macbook pro there is no problem and the WD My Passport is mounted in the finder.  But if I remove manually the hard drive and then try to mount it again while the macbook pro is running it doesn't mount not.  It used to, but he won't now.

In the past the WD My passport would need to unplug and perhaps the USB3 hub would need power cable disconnect from him and the USB hubs out the macbook pro.  So when I joined this new and plugged the hard drive WD in the hub, it would rise very well.  But now it's just point blank refuses to ride until I restart the macbook pro.  Once I restart it it climbs perfectly and stays up forever--until it is dismantled manually - and then I have to restart the macbook pro again so he could mount once more.

I tried all combinations of pull cables and adapters to power but nothing has worked.  After dismantling the WD hd and plug back on the USB3 light led on the hub hub lights up and the hard drive turns manually, but, as I say, it is not mount and it is not visible in disk utility.

Any ideas please?  It's a bit annoying to have to keep restarting the mac whenever I had to unplug the hard drive WD.

"As issued" WD Passport appear to cause a number of reports of trouble around here. You have already taken the first "not best" - using a powered hub. Just make sure that the hub is really power (lights on, for example). It could be that the external drive is in its death throws.

This happen if the WD is the only thing on the powered hub?

The Mac USB ports work with other devices?

Here's what my experience with these things has believing me. WD made great bare discs, but I can't be so kind to their pens. Three questions:

    (1) I think that they should use chipsets which are not very easy to Mac.

    (2) most driving the ship formatted for Windows

    (3) even those shipped as "Mac editions have some odd which makes it difficult to access file formatting.

If you do not have to share the drive with a Windows computer, you can reformat the drive and that often fixes "fail to mount/recognize" question. Disk utility is your tool of choice here because it is already installed on your Mac. Completely erase the WD drive by selecting the tab 'Clear' in the bar tabs to disk utility. Define the plan of Partition to GUID Partition map and journaled for Mac extended format. Press the button 'clear '. The reader will now will be rid of eccentric WD partitioning and formatting schemes and be a good Mac hard drive.

If you share the road with a Windows computer, consider getting a better workout. After having fought external drives 'brand' on my computers and others that I maintain, I now use only boxes of other computer world with naked WD drives inside. Since this change, I have zero problems. For my MacBook Pro, I use this forum:

    https://eShop.MacSales.com/item/OWC/MEPMU3ES/

I ordered the external power optionally for use at home and go on the road bus-powered. It's an empty envelope - just a hard drive of nu. They are more expensive than the stuff that Staples puts on sale every weekend, but are much more reliable. I ask the question. "What is my value data?"

  • Drive external DRIVE will not mount after resizing in Windows

    Hi all

I got a 1 TB external drive that I used for a while about 10 Windows and OSX (El Capitan). I had two partitions Configuration for use on every platform without any problems.

Then, I needed extra space on the Windows partition, so I think that, if I remember correctly, that I've resized using the disk management tool in Windows. I reduced the OSX volume and increased the size of the Windows volume. I can probably hear you all shout now.

Surprise, my volume OSX will now not mount when I run in El Capitan. It does not show in disk utility, and the only way to 'see' it is using diskutil:

  • Z400 disks with EFI partition not mounting after the Windows 7 Pro upgrade

Cannot assign a drive letter.  All other discs mount correctly.  Disks with EFI partition will mount on other PCs.  All the drivers seem to be current and fuctional.

I thought about it... after two weeks of puzzle, I finally found the cause.

I run MacDrive 8 so I can play discs with HFS + formatting.  This program should be completely uninstalled and reinstalled after the upgrade.  I had turned it off before the upgrade, but it takes more than that.  Everything works now as expected.

But wouldn't be INCE if Windows reads discs mac natively?

  • 320 GB HD, not mounting correctly primary partition

I just bought a 320 HD. He has a special password that rises like a CD of partition. This partition mounts (and autoruns) password correctly, but the main partition does not work. Device Manager says the disc is unreadable and partition magic wrote that the MBR is bad. Any ideas? I don't particularly care about partition password (in fact), so if the formatting is an option, that's fine. Unfortunately, the magic of partition requires that I reboot to do a full format of a disc, which of course will not work in this case.

    Hello

I have the same problem, I want to get rid of this cdrom drive, I don't have and don't want. If year annual already received suggestions I'd be happy to hear from you. I'll do the same...
Partition Magic said BAD. So I opted for the native XP Disk Manager. I managed to repartition etc. It does not, in my case, about 7 MB of space "unused" at the beginning of the disk, but is still there because the CD-ROM drive appears again. The only option will probably be a complete reformatting or completely-installing and removing software driver for the reader. Maybe then he will no longer be able to generate this cdrom. I'll try to do that tonight and keep you informed.

  • external hard drive not mounting

Here it is the end of the year and one of my external hard drives (1 TB Iomega MacMini) decided to not mount on the desktop of my MBP 15 "

    (in early 2011).

I read a few posts on ways to remedy by making the Kext Utility application, reset the SMC, disk repair/first aid utility, using different cables/ports.

test another external hard drive (which is mounted using FireWire 800) etc...

When I look at the MBP in the system report found in 'about this Mac' sees the external hard drive, that I'm putting and yet this car is not editing.

The Iomega hard drive light flashes and there is power and the whirring of the drive, so that it seems the unit working on it of own but is no longer connection

    on my desk.

I have Time Machine on two external hard drives, but has a reader is slightly larger than the other, the information stored on both devices is slightly different.

So, if I can get access to the data from the Iomega hard drive and save it, then I'll be a happy camper and will update to another external drive.

For now, I hope some of you can provide advice to solve this problem.

I booked time at the Genius Bar, but nothing is open until next week.

Looking forward to responses and wish all a happy new year.

If so, try it on another Mac.  Don't rule out the possibility that the HARD disk is dead.

    Ciao.

I have a new HD but cannot set up encryption with system preferences. After ten minutes, I get the following error message:

"There was an error preparing the Time Machine backup disk (disc name) - could not mount drive"

    • If you are using an external drive connected to your Mac, use disk utility to make sure that your backup disk is formatted in HFS + extended (journaled) and is the partition type GUID Partition Table (GPT)

It is not an option for the HFS + and so I used; OS x EXTENDED (journaled). GUID is ok.

Can someone let me know what I need to do.

    Thank you

Formatting: GUID Partition Table, OS X Extended (journaled).    (it is HFS +)

For TimeMachine at best to a partition only.

Do it again if necessary, then disconnect, reconnect, Start Time Machine preferences and "select disk".

  • Why I have a FAT32 partition and how can I know what is on it?

I tried to free up space on my hard drive and I went to disk management and discovered that I have a FAT32 partition.  This partition has a capacity of 2.9 GB and is currently greater than 90% full.  How can I find on which is stored here?  Is there a reason that this partition is necessary?  I've certainly not implemented (at least not on purpose).   I use Windows XP.

    Thank you!

The best thing to do would be to consult your computer's documentation and see if there's information to the service partition.

You can watch the partition with disk editing tools such as Acronis Disk Director or you can use a partition simple editing tool like PtEdit32 from Symantec to change the partition type and you can then watch the partition with Windows Explorer.

Make a note of the type of partition until you change it so that you can then set it back as it was.  The partition is probably a hidden type 1 c, if you want to change for a type of 0C to view it.  A reboot is required for Windows see and mount the partition to make it available to Windows Explorer or disk management tool.

    WARNING!

Slippery fingers or user errors when you use the drive or the partition, editing tools can lead to the loss of all data on the disk!  To aid PtEdit32 is quite easy and simple, but it requires a little knowledge and understanding of (or a willingness to learn) how partitions are organized and identified.  You can download PtEdit32 from the Symantec FTP server, which is easy to find with a search on the net: http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oG7mbsbOxMsWcBUlZXNyoA?p=ftp.symantec.com+ptedit32&fr2=sb-top&fr=yfp-t-501

You can look, but don't delete or modify files inside the service partition, if you do the restore process may fail when you most need!

Disk0 unit 1 is not the problem. This is the EFI partition, which is never mounted, because it is used only by the bootstrapper, long before that the file system is initialized.

Your problem is 70 errors in disk0 tranche 2, the volume Macintosh HD. This hard drive (the entire disc) was his. Dead. in ruins. You need a new drive.

  • Disk utility was unable to repair the Time Machine USB2 external HARD disk partition?

    Hello.

My client has problem with its USB2 500 GB Seagate FreeAgent Go since early 2010. There 2 partitions: FAT32 and HFS (for most Time Machine backups). After connection and enter its password valid successfully, it takes a minute to set up, and then a message that says "OS X cannot repair the «...» "You can still open or copy the files on the disk, but you cannot save changes to the files on the disc. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can. "I ran disk with their verification utility. Both are problems with "invalid sibling link" and said the repair option. However, this repair option is grayed out.  So, is it not possible to fix it with free software on the disk except for the reformat?

I used two different 15 "MacBook Pro (Mac OS X v10.8.5/Mt. mid-2012 lion and v10.10.5/Yosemite of the early 2013) with the same results, is not the MacBook Pros. http://imgur.com/a/OW0s6 for a couple screen

    Thank you in advance.

Disk utility can't repair an error of invalid sibling link. You use Disk Warrior that assuming that the disk is always good. Otherwise, you will need to save what you can then reformat the hard drive. Exactly what the error message said.
