  Well well after hours of trying allsorts, I post here...

  I have a mouse mobile memory 8000 who, for some reason, does not work. The issue began yesterday after I used WUBI to install ubuntu alongside vista. My mouse did not work when I booted into vista. • New mini optical mouse does not work

  Hi all:

  I used a mini mouse optical for a few years now without a single problem. I just plugged into the USB port, and that's all. Yesterday it died on me, so I bought a new.

  The mouse does not work and the cursor stays frozen at least that I move it using the touchpad on the laptop.

  OS is Vista
  Satellite P100 series

  More information:

  -the little wheel on the mouse will allow me to scroll the page to the bottom, but it's just what works
  -the drivers are all up to date
  -restore the computer to an earlier date
  -run a full virus/malware scan, nothing came
  -USB are good; I tried all ports, including the ports where something else that works has been connected
  -After I restore and connect my mouse in I saw the computer install the latest drivers

  The only thing I can think is that the new mouse is defective but I doubt that. However, it is possible I suppose.

  Can anyone else think of any other possible explanation and how I can solve this problem. Could something changed in the BIOS? Is there a setting that has changed I have to look?

  I have a system running 64-bit Windows 8. My Gigabyte M6980 mouse has a wheel tilt with a capacity to reach not only up and down but also left and right. However, the inclination of the wheel does not record in my Win8 machine.

  I plugged the mouse on a Vista laptop where initially the system has not yet recognized the mouse at all (the cursor is not mobile). After going to the Manager of devices and update the driver for the "unknown device" which was M6980, it became a "HID-compatible mouse. I could then move the cursor AND use the horizontal scrolling. On a Windows 7 computer, the mouse was recognized immediately and I could use horizontal scrolling very well.

  I tried to copy mouclass.sys of my laptop Vista and mouhid.sys to C:/Windows/System32/drivers on my machine Windows 8, but then the mouse could not be recognized at all the original files should be restored. The same thing happened when I copied the same files from a Windows 7 machine.

  Gigabyte support response is that the mouse does not officially support Windows 8 and all the features are not guaranteed. There are no drivers available for the device and the only software that comes with it is motor Ghost of Gigabyte for remapping keys. But given that horizontal scrolling works in Windows 7 without any additional software, I suspect driver Windows 8 HID is involved, although I could well be wrong. I couldn't Google solutions.   Thanks for a quick reply. Windows 8 is now picking up the thin horizontal scrolling messages. I tried to randomly check the software option Gigabyte 'disable horizontal scrolling' and apply changes and then uncheck the new, and, curiously, it started working. However, I install the latest version of the software from Gigabyte (which just happened to be released February 1) in compatibility mode to be on the safe side.

  Although the system is now picking up messages from horizontal scrolling of the mouse, my Battlefield 3 game won't recognize them, but is not a Windows problem, so I'll find an answer elsewhere.

  Hi Mark,

  I see that the Web Site of Toshiba UK does not list the reader pionting device for your laptop model. So I assume that it should use the standard version of Windows XP.

  Check in for your pointing device Device Manager to see if it is showing up with errors. Also, you should be able to run a troubleshooter for it and perhaps also a calibration tool. (You may need to move around with the arrow keys or tab).

  If all else fails, you can try to recover your system with the recovery CD and that the pointer is still not working properly, then this would indicate a hardware fault.
