  This is because one of the configuration files of the iPhone disables it for iPhones with AB, AE and AH maybe just before the / is their model numbers.   I have exactly the same problem. I have an ipad 2, using 9.2.1. I have problems with Facetime and iMessage. I tried all of the suggestions I found on the internet, such as:

  • hard reset (duh!);
  • Logging out of my ID apple and logging, then return
  • turning my date and time setting to set automatically.
  • turn on airplane mode, then turning on wi - fi;
  • Restore my factory default network configuration.

  Somehow, iMessage features have been restored, although I can't figure out why it was restored. I checked after each blow dry and found no change. Then all of a sudden, it was restored to iMessage.

  I still can't use Facetime. I'm reluctant to try to do everything above again because I'm afraid that I'll lose iMessage.

  Follow these steps.
