  I have a little problem, I need to extend the drive on one of our servers hosted on an ESXi server, all would be well and truly as the extension seems easy, however society which has already managed the network don't set up the data store on a NAS, this disk drive has no slots available and all drives are full , so we decided to buy a car to fill a slot in the physical server for expansion. My question is, is it possible and are there measures to have the data store across the NAS drive and the new drive on the physical server.   I'm sure you know already... but really, really need to back up the Exchange database.  Now.

  You will not be able to expand on a store of data between a NAS and a local physical drive.

  If the local drive is big enough (larger than the existing Exchange vmdk), you can create a new messaging database and migrate the mailboxes, which will serve the double purpose of it down the old drive and giving you a new compacted database.

• A little confused about ESXi 5 startup problem

  Hey there everyone - I read the forums and other documents online for a few days, but I'm not sure if there is a work around for this particular problem.

  I AM running the free version of ESXi 5 (with the license key installed on the host to remove the limit of 60 days), on my own system here at home and it works fine, but the autostart feature does not work for the specified virtual machines.  Problem is that I downloaded the image to install for a few days, so I don't know if I have the latest version or if I can still the 'dismantling' to version 5 who takes support this feature.

  I have pfsense installed on the host computer, and without this startup system, if ESXi restarts or loses power and returns to the top, it does not automatically start pfsense and I lose all access to the House.  I thought I had done enough research and thought I'd be OK to install ESXi 5, but obviously, I missed something.

  If I click on help > on VMWare in my vSphere client, the Client's version 5.0.0 (Build 623373) and VMware ESXi is Version 5.0.0 with a building of 623860.

  I'm SOL here?  Or can I do something to restore this ability?

  The system is not something super special - but I want to continue to use ESXi compared to what I used last.

• ESXi 5 installation problem

  from what you describe, is trying to replace the network cable or check the physical switch port settings (for example the access mode, spanning tree portfast,...)

  Before I switched to using ESXi 3.5 to host my VM guest, I used VMware Server 1.0.6 to the guest virtual machines. However, I think that

  also a question should I try to install the stand-alone converter on each virtual machine, hyper v or should I install on the computer host and make the conversion?

  You do not need to install the converter on each machine, only the converter agent, which is installed automatically when it is not found on the destination computer.

• Networking question in VMware Workstation / nested ESXi network configuration problem

  I am trying to set up a virtual lab, I setup a domain, a vcenter server and up to 1 ESXi host controller.

  I am really struggling with the network aspect in establishing a vmnic for storing shared, please see the attached screenshots and a few questions:

  1. Is a vmnic a real network map? or vmnic correspond to "network adapters" that you put in place since the setting of your virtual machine?

  I followed a tutorial and implement 3 NICs on the ESXi host, in Bridge mode, I tried this in my configuration of vmworkstation and I lose the connection to my server vcenter to the ESXi host.

  See screenshot attached to how I configured my ESXi host, screenshot is called 'screenshot2esxihost network', I run got each of the maps defined on NAT network.

  

  See also the screenshot of how I have my configuration of network settings in my VMWare Workstation, screenshot is called "screenshot1. the tutorial does not show how it has its editor of the virtual network configuration, but it puts its ESXi host NICs in BRIDGED mode, and I'm guessing that you can set this time within the virtual network adapter.   The vmnic is the rising 'physical' of an ESXi host. So with the 3 network cards that you configured for the host in VMware Workstation you will see under "Network adapters" and you can use them to vSwitches in the section "network".

  Because your hardware is not on the VMware HCL (http://www.vmware.com/go/hcl), it probably has to do with the adapter on your motherboard.

  The NIC on your motherboard is a Realtek RTL8111E and is known to have these issues (Ref: http://communities.vmware.com/message/2123117 - latest post is interesting)

  Best way to fix this is to get an additional network card supported as Intel PRO/1000
