  Have you checked the Device Manager for any item (s) material that can be reported?

  Since it works in Mode safe, it's clearly a software problem. So now that the files are saved on your laptop, you can wipe the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows.

  You can create the Toshiba Recovery disk every time. Just launch the pre-installed Toshiba Recovery Media Creator and follow the instructions on the screen. You need just a few blank DVDs to create the discs. Disks contain a factory image of settings which can be restored each time and how many times you want to so with these disks, you are on the safe side ;)

  There are various reasons why this error message:
  In most cases this error because the laptop is trying to boot from a HARD drive or flash drive that is not configured correctly. Maybe the drive is not bootable or not compatible.

  It would also be possible that some sectors on the HARD disk, HARD drive failures are corrupt or BIOS is damaged. NTLDR error messages may also appear if the master boot record is damaged.

  In your case I recommend that you format the first HARD drive before booting from the hard drive CD7DVD external using Win XP CD.

  By the way: you must add SATA driver to CD Win XP using nLite.
  The SATA driver is placed on the European driver Toshiba page in the Intel Storage Manager

  This message contains a very detailed description of my troubleshooting steps and is certainly a bit long. I wanted to be thorough so apologies right up front, OK? Also, I can't find a forum for North America!

  Here's an interesting situation. Have a Toshiba SD-R5372 of combo on an ABit MB with an Athlon 64 with XP Pro, all day. Works fine until about 6-8 weeks ago when he began to fail to recognize any CD R/Ws. I don't remember what I might have done or installed before noticing the failure. In the BIOS, the optical drive is correctly identified as the master on the main channel (also known as channel 1 on this screen). The HARD drive is a SATA drive and the BIOS correctly identifies residing on channel 3 (reserved for use according to ABit SATA). Insert a fresh out-of-the-box space or a prerecorded CD R/W (whether made from this player or my other on computer B), and the activity winks led about 25 - 30 times then remains solid and turns off only when I eject the disc. The drive is connected using the latest IDE connector on the cable and it is an option as master - all together upward on the primary channel (channel 1).

  In Windows, the drive is totally blocked - it will not just find the CD-R/W drive. I don't see all the files on a CD-R/W drive (even though I know they're there), cannot double-click to open. I can do a right click on the drive in Explorer and get the context menu to eject the disc. And if I try to copy some files, XP will create temporary files, throw up in the bubble 'You files to be written on the CD' but on the wizard burn a Windows CD on the second panel will say "There is no disk in the drive" and if I try to erase CD R/W (using Nero CD/DVD Speed) the drive is not ready, the drive is not for the gray of program out all the functions of the House.

  I've worked really hard to try to fix this! I'be looked around the ' Net for an answer. First thing: it's probably bad media (used originally Sony who have had no failures to date), so I bought a stack of Maxells and then later Verbatims - still no go. Strangely it reads and writes with the mention of HP and Verbatim DVD-R/Ws, more it will read and write in a variety of CD - r, two blanks, music-homebrewed and commercially prep would be none CD R/Ws so.

  It is the only system with SATA IDE hard drive. The next step was to buy a brand completely new and totally different from the combo DRIVE (thank you Mr. Staples). Now get this - after new XP hardware detected and installed new drivers and everything was cool... exactly the same problem with that. Replace the Toshiba in. Uninstalled the Toshiba in Dev Mgr - restarted - no help and XP did find and locate and properly configured the drivers as expected. I completely uninstalled my suite Nero 7.0 and I also used the Nero clean tool - no help (Note: I left installed Nero CD/DVD Speed as the Nero cleaning tool does not touch). I looked for other Roxio/Adaptec and applications as a measure of protection, I also ran RoxieZap.

  I uninstalled Alcohol 120, which therefore also zaps the crud of virtual drive - no help. ASPI shows no layer ASPI flashed the firmware of Toshiba for the last series of firmware (TU56) - no help. (Notice a pattern here...?) In the service console that automatically starts the Service IMAPI - IDE channels are all in DMA mode. I have updated the chipset drivers VIA by their latest Hyperion 4-in-1 software IDE driver - no change. Here's another experiment: I rebooted and as the POST passes by I insert a CD-R/W drive and winks in the car but the activity light stays on even before Windows XP this office.

  There is something wrong at a very low level here... Is the toast by car after only one year? Remember, I already replaced with another brand and got the same symptom.

  I solved this. It wasn't because of the driver. I reinstalled the driver from this link that you provided before the validation of this one, but it did not work. I googled high and low and found various fixes, but they do not work.

  I have even come back to an image previous when I just installed Windows 7 (and at that time where the USB ports still work). However, after restoration, the ports still refuse to recognize any USB.

  So I think that there are only 2 possibilities: hardware failure (1), or a BIOS (2) problem.

  Then I updated to the latest version of the HP BIOS (using HP Support Assistant) and then voila. Problem solved.

  I guess the updates of Windows 7 somehow comes into conflict with Bios HP, where the question.

  I hope my explanation is clear enough for someone with the same problem can fix their computers.

  I am trying to fix a 11 HP flow for someone and I'm running into some issues here.  Basically, the computer does not light and the power led blinks three times.  I did all the options to reset that I could find online, and the power brick works.  The person said that she may have fallen, so I think this has something to do with that don't turn only not on.  No idea what the three blinking lights could mean in this case?  Thank you.
