Failure of DST optimized start-up

My laptop hangs at startup.  I did the Test of system & comes with DST OPTIMIZED: failure

This means - my hard drive is defective or has bad sectors?

DST error indicates that the hard disk has failed or is failing fast. You can replace it with a retail hard drive if you are out of warranty. Just be sure to replace it with one at least as large a capacity than the original to use recovery disks for installing Windows on it. It may be bigger, but not smaller. For example if you have a hard drive of 320, now, you could use a 500 GB but not a hard drive of 250 GB.

If you need help please post full model number or product number of the computer laptop-as indicated on the Service tag on the bottom of the laptop.

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion DV6-XZ714AV running Windows 7 64-bit. My computer was running obnoxiously slow so I ran the melody of the system upward in the start menu to the top and got a "short dst: failure ' message. Followed by 'Failure ID' 0TQ064-5LL61-XD015G-60UU03.

After doing some research, it seems that I need to replace my hard drive. However, I do not know what type of hard drive I need to search. So what kind of hard drive do I need?

    Hello:

You need a 2.5 "laptop hard drive SATA II to not exceed 1 TB.

If you live in the USA, I recommend that you get a player of this provider. They have great prices and you can read all the reviews and select a player based on size, price, reviews, etc.

Now you have even more choices... I recommend a 7 200 RPM HARD drive with a 16 MB cache for optimal performance.

If the battery life between charges is more important to you, then get a disk of 5 400 rpm.

You will also need a set of recovery discs, you can order once you read the info on the link below.

If for some reason, HP has no disks for your PC, you can use this workaround...

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Well, if this is the case, it must be too late to consider waiting.  A new hard drive seems to be in order.  Given that the post says Windows 10, which is the updated "free"?  If this is the case, then order a 1 TB hard drive to replace the failed unit.  On the restoration of the OS, I have to assume certain things

    (1) you do not have the recovery put DVD to reinstall Windows 8, as it was

    (2) you do not really want to reinstall Windows 8, on the new hard drive

    (3) If you have access to a working computer and can make windows 10 media creation dvd site M$, you might be able to reinstall Windows 10 using this.  Of course, any other software that has been installed on the old drive before it failed will be lost, unless you have the information you need to reinstall that, too.

Considering that the computer does not start, I have to assume the worst condition for the reader.  It is perhaps not completely watered and important data cannot be retrieved, but don't count on it.

Let me know how things go once the drive is replaced.

    Hello

Error code 24 characters for the drive Self Test (DST) would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  It is also to be able to start safe mode, because the disk is under less load than when started normally.

If you are is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - you can check the status of your warranty here.

  • HP Pavilion Slimline S5: Internal HARD drive failure, PC does not start

Drive HARD internal of my HP Pavilion Slimline S5 failed and died recently (bought in 2011). My HP warranty is long gone.

The splash screen has shown this message:

1720-SMART hard detects an imminent failure

Due to lack of player: SATA0

    Failed attributes: # 05

I have several questions about this:

    1. Is it only caused by HARD drive failure? I want to replace it myself, but I don't really know if there are other parts to replace. Or it will be better to bring it to the computer shop to do carefully check?
    2. I can replace it with Seagate Barracuda 3.5 "(7200 RPM, 1 TB, SATA 3 or 6)? I think that the current HARD drive is Hitachi.
    3. I still need to transfer Windows OEM once the HARD drive is replaced?

    Thanks in advance.

According to the packing of the Seagate, it might come with the software.  But if it is OEM drive then found the software by clicking HERE.  In general, I use a USB adapter for hard drive to clone if the PC will not support an additional drive.  Given that a number of incomplete model for the PC, it is difficult to find accurate info, but the Pavilion Slimline S5 I checked all have a motherboard with additional SATA ports.  Just have a spare SATA cable and power on the power port and try the cloning software.  Make sure that the drive is not touch a conductive element.  Usually, I place the additional reader on a cardboard box.

Install the new drive as a replacement for the existing drive and connect everything as it is now.  Then connect the old drive in the manner discussed.  Boot from the CD created with cloning tools.  If the old drive is cloned stll, then when the software is finished, remove the old drive connections to see if the drive can start the computer.  If this is not successful, try to run the recovery screen (F11) BIOS boot manager.  If that does not work, use the Recovery DVD set brand when the computer was new.  If you did this, or lost them, then see THATto order a series.

    Hello

The code actually read RGF722-5PU820-MFPV5F-60RW03 (IE not L in the 2nd block of characters)?

If that is correct, the error code 24 characters is a disk failure short self-test and would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  This is also consistent with the problem you describe.

Your hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a new one - if not a portable hard drive of detail can be used. Western Digital, Seagate, etc. - no matter what brand works.

  • Failure of DST short

Help pages for HP say to contact HP.  I guess that my hard drive has failed.  I ran the test because all began ruunning so slowly.  Then, I had an overheating error and the computer simply stops but it wasn't in a warm room temperature.  Then I checked everything I could think of and finally found the diagnstic.  Here is the info:

    Failure ID: 9AL5BS-5HU71E-MFKR41 - 60 X 603

    Product ID: XH002UA #ABA

    Hard drive 1.

It is a G72 and is not under warranty.  Œuvres fan, I can still here it and it does not appear that an overheating issue is relevant, even if they stop with 90 d error code and said it was a heat issue.

DST Fail indicates hdd is soon dead or dying and must be replaced. A portable hard drive SATA Retail can be used. You will need recovery media HP install Windows & software/drivers for the new hard drive. I hope you have done yours - if not, it can be ordered from HP for a small fee.

Regarding the question of overhaetting-dust, hair, etc. can clog the vents after awhile. Take a can of compressed air and blow out all the mouths, ports & the opeings in the case to ensure good circulation of air through the case.

    Hello

Error code 24 characters for short drive Self Test (DST) would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.  Only HP has access to the required software that can give a more specific cause, suffice it to say that if the machine is under warranty, the error is sufficient for the drive needs to be replaced

  • Freezing and disc hard short failure of dst

    Hi, I have a g6-2213sa.

A week ago my laptop started to freeze almost instantly, I looked online and decided to use the built in refresh option. Unfortunately, this did not help, after using f2 tests, I discovered that I had a disk failure hard dust runs. What - what it means and how it influences my performance of laptops?

My computer has run out of warranty and I had for about a year and a half

    Thanks in advance

This means that, at best, you have a hard disk that can not be trusted, caused by hardware failure

immediate backup recommended if you use your computer to keep the valuable data in it

as you already mentioned by 'freezes', it will make the negative impact the performance too

  • HP pavilion 205t - 500 CTO: failure of DST short test system

I recently had problems with my computer and I did a test of the system that came with the Id 9gf14k-79j87h-qffv6k-60rn03 failure. -What it means and how to fix it?

    @JockoTheTaco, welcome to the forum.

This error message said you that your hard drive has failed.  Your only option is to replace it.  You should buy a disk HARD of the same size or larger to ensure that recovery media will work with him.

Here's a guide to help you with the replacement.

  • Hard disk 1 failure short DST Check

    Hi all

The laptop is a HP Pavillion G6 and failed a quick review of the system on Hard Drive 1. I then ran a Test of the component on the hard drive and it produced a failure ID og GLL1BV - B 6, 8737 - MFPX1F60UN03 and a product ID of C5J48EA #ABU.

My question is a hard drive broken completely, died? It is not my computer and was not supported if files would be lost.

If the hard drive needs to be replaced, can someone point me in the direction of a suitable replacement of 750Go drive?

If it's broken, is it possible to access the files and to rescue some of them?

More to that, I understand that I will need to reinstall the operating system on the new drive hard if she has completely disappeared, how I would approach this? As far as I know that the guy has no a boot disk as Windows 8 came preinstalled.

Finally, if she has not broken, no idea how to fix? It would be useful to take it to a repair shop, or that they would do what I did?

Sorry, it's a long, this is my brother's cell phone and I have a Mac, so not too sure on it in all honesty. Let me know if you need more info on the laptop or the problem.

    See you soon,.

    James

It seems that the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If this is not the case, a laptop SATA hard detail can be used. Just be sure to get a quality at least equal the original in order to use recovery discs that you can order from HP if none have been created using the software on the laptop. Recovery media can usually be ordered online from laptops or by phone Support page.

    Example HERE

If you need more help post returns with full model number & product as indicated on the Service tag on the bottom of the laptop.
