Failure of system restore,

I had to reformat the CD four times now and every time that system restore works until I have a problem, and then he goes through the motions but appears as an unspecified error and no changes have been made. I tried it at the command prompt, but should not be the order. Restore Dell PC also fails to work when I do Ctrl F11. This has happened other times as well. The computer is working reasonably well, there is just something weird is going on with the modem and internet connection I thought about a system restore can fix. .. JED Stuart

  • Windows XP system restore Boot Failure with new hard drive

HP Touchsmart IQ546t running Windows XP Home Edition

    Here is my story:

A few months ago my PC was informing me that a hard disk failure is imminent and how can I back up my data.

I was able to get most of the data backed up and has continued to use the PC.

    Finally, the hard drive failed.

Not being not able to find system restore disks, I ordered a set of HP.

In the meantime, I was able to save the rest of my data using an external hard drive enclosure, a laptop and a backup disk.

I used system restore discs to erase the hard drive and restore the operating system.

After the successful restoration, I was able to boot my PC and use it for a few days, but again became imminent hard disk failure message. Yet once again, the hard drive failed and I was unable to use it.

I decided to replace the hard drive, thinking I could install and use the system restore disks to get the installed operating system.

I followed all the instructions, I find and could not start the machine to the point he will recognize the recovery disc. I receive a message that tells me to insert a bootable media.

Does anyone know what I'm missing here?

Is there something I can try to get the hard drive to boot to the point he will recognize the recovery disk?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hello

OPS, sorry on this subject.  If the recovery discs are not recognized not so you act have a problem trying to get the new HDD to be restored.

Try the procedure below and see what happens.  View your results.

Cyberlink CD recovery for hard drives. When you created this CD, insert it into the system that fails to start, restart, and wait until you see a window with a green check mark.  Next, remove the CD and insert your first recovery DVDs.  Reboot the PC and go through the process of installing the operating system again.  If all goes well, it should install properly this time.

  • System Restore op after failure of HARD drive and replacement

    Hello

I have an old laptop dv9000 with XPPro factory installed SP2, since upgraded to SP3. The hard drive failed (Seagate 80Gig). I checked with the test of the bios Setup, he said "fail" and I checked by booting from the windows installation disc CD player. He said, not found hard drive. SO, I bought a disc bytes of more 1 t (same mfr Seagate, same 5400 RPM) and installed. I have a backup network (Seagate Black armor) drive and I was able to restore the last backup. The booted cd drive the recovery disc for this program, the hard drive light blinking and it seemed to be something for 3 hours, then told it was full.

But the new drive does not start. I've read on this forum and of the joint recommendation was to use the system provided with the laptop recovery disks. I dug through the boxes in the garage and have found the system recovery discs and my 14 cd makes system restore. :-) makes to keep unwanted sometimes. But I tried the system recovery disk and it will not start in the cd player. I get a white screen with the cursor in the left flashing top. I went back to try the recovery of Seagate disk, and now it will not start either. I tried to remove the new HARD drive. with or without a cd in the player it displays the message "No Op sysytem found." SO I think that something touched the CDdrive. But it is interesting with the blinking cursor will restart the machine, then perhaps a part of the op system is loaded.

It is an old machine, the old system of the op. I shopped Hp store and only Windows8 available now. SO I am forced either on the cutting edge with all new bugs and learning curve, or I'm trying to get this old lady will machine. Other things I've linked, hard reset, restore the default bios.

Ideas that you may have will be appreciated.

    Hello

The laptop is back running with the new hard drive, Yay! and a new cd player.

Here's what he had to, for anyone who has ever has the same problem:

The CD player was bad. The nearest local supplier on the list for assistance parts hp gave me was a suitable replacement. I installed, and the system restore disc started and ran immediately.  I decided to check and see if the windows install disc would go and restore the sytem since I thought that I had already restored the entire C: partition. He started, but did not find the hard drive. He gave an eror message that does no drive found.  I went to the hp system restore disc and running. It took several hours reformatted the drive (by removing everything I'd put) and rebooted several times. Eventually, he came with a windows desktop computer. This is the factory installed there are over 5 years old. I installed the Seagate backup software and running. He seemed to have more options running in windows he did directly from the boot cd. One of the options was to restore the MBR. I had to find out what it was, Master Boot Record. I thought that it should be restored. The full restoration of the backup process C: took another few hours, but he finished and gave a message of the operation successfully.

Then I rebooted and got windows, connected and got my office logon screen as it was at the time of the backup. Success.

In the future, I'll watch that restore MBR, maybe it's there, and I missed it the first time. I have a slight nagging worry that maybe something else caused both drives to fail almost at the same time. But I'm not going to fuss with it. I hope that the machine works well for a little longer.

Thanks to those who have tried to help.

  • failure of the system restore

I have a dell Windows xp computer.  everything on it was working fine and the a few days ago the internet Explorer was working really slow but everything else on the computer was working fine.  so I did system restore to when it was working fine.  My computer has restarted and then BAM it nothing at all, but keep trying to reboot over and over again.  I don't like not really on the computer I was due for a new still, but I have pictures there that I want to come back and I was wondering if there was anyway at least to recover the photos.  Oh and I tried to start safe mode and all the options I got on the screen but the same thing. So if someone can tell me a way to recover these pictures, I would be very grateful.

    Hello

The best way to recover the photos is to take out the hard drive and attach it to another PC as a slave drive, or second. Locate the drive connected, then copy your photos. The photos are usually found under X: \Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\My Pictures (where X is the drive letter of the hard drive attached andusername is your user profile.)

Alternatively, you can try to make your PC work again trying to recover your registry database. You can read this document to do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

You use system restore to get rid of the virus.

Run a full scan with your antivirus software. If you do not...

You can use this free program. It is very effective.
Malwarebytes download link: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ ... choose the "free" version

It's not redundant to run another program, just to make sure no viruses remain undetected.

  • Boots Vista 64 Ultimate SP2 (with domain) to the mouse cursor black screen white after that several failure system restores

Who can help me to WHO:

Sorry for fast hiking, misspellings, it's late and I do not use my normal computer to this problem I have.

I am currently sympthym to start the black screen with a white cursor (furniture, put in construction in the middle) with my laptop Dell Studio 15 (model 1537) that running Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP2.  He started tonight after repeatively, I tried to restore to a date prior to the System Restore tool.  I wanted to get back to Monday due to some software installations.  However, each attempt to restore failed and then after the 3rd or 4th attempt, when I tried to restart, I was faced with a window very long stop, and I was impacient and pressed and held the power button to stop it.  Subsequent starts, I've known this problem with no solution having been found for the moment.

I tried several things at first, such that I tried Ctrl-alt-del, control-shift-esc, blindly connect with my fingerprint.  I tried windows key combos, but no luck.  Still stuck with screen black mouse cursor

I have my vista ultimate 64 bit installation disc, and I started with the dvd and tried to fix it.  Automatic repair tool says he finds a problem with my start and had a difficulty to which I applied and rebooted.  But it did not work.

Then, I tried to boot from the dvd again and did the repair option again, this time, Autostart reparir tool see nothing wrong with my start and I tried a system restore, but alas, it failed after having worked for a bit.  Telling something about restoration being corrupted.  I tried command prompt (X:\Source) and make chkdsk c: /p (which btw, implies / f as well) and it found some errors and repaired them or what not was wrong to write to newspapers, even if and then after long waiting, returns to the c: prompt.  No effect.

On subsquent dvd boots, I tried the option to command line renaming a "Logs" directory and create a directory "Logs" empty (which was mentioned in some research online and even in a few posts here), but that has not solved the problem for me either.

Dvd later boots, I have tried regedit solution method, where you will load a SYSTEM key and set some sort of AUTHORITY NT set... but when I checked key, she was already the correct setting.

Then I learned that I could press the "Shift" key repeatedly while mode cursor screen black/white/and try the propmpt for keys pop-up to sticky.  But he said no 'link' as many instructions in this message box.  When I click 'Yes' to sticky keys, nothing is displayed and the pop-up closes.  Ditto for the 'no '.  There is no mention of accessibility settings.

I tried all modes of security, but just a white cursor plu experience.  I have tried to use "last known configuration', 'debug mode', 'start logging mode', mode"disable driver signing"and again, the same thing, the cursor of the black and white screen.  I'm really at my wit's end, and I don't want REALLY to re - install everything (operating system, programs, settings, etc.) ... I did not back upward, and I use this machine without problem for more than a year.

I remember once XP has a "repair install" mode which was really obvious to end users, since it looked almost identical to a clean install.  I have also heard (but can't really confirm) Vista has no such a fashion, that, by clicking on install, he repaired to the simular OS to XP disks how would repair their facilities.  I can't risk my data/programs/settings for accidental clean installation.  Help, please!

    Sincerely,
    Robert Eckman

According to me, put it back in place, is the only solution to your problem!

  • System Restore works only in Mode without failure. Why?

Using Windows 7 Home Premium and can do in only safe mode system restore. In normal mode, the Restore Points are generated without problem.

    Hi JRHoot,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community.

According to the description, it seems that you are unable to run the restore of the system in normal mode.

To guide you in the right direction, I need a little more information of the computer with the problem. Please help me answer the following questions:

-You have an error message when running the system restore?

I will certainly help you with this issue.

Here are a few troubleshooting methods that you can try in order to solve the problem.

Method 1: Test the issue of clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error message, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Please note: After troubleshooting, be sure to start your computer in normal mode by following these steps.

    a. click on start toreduce this includes this image, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press Enter.Collapse this includes this image

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you must type the password or click continue.

    b. on the general tab, click the Normal startup option and then click OK.

    c. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart.

    Method 2:

Check the status of the shadow copy Volume service. If it is, then try to restart the VSS service and check.

    (a) click Start, type services.msc in the start search.

    (b) find the instantaneous volume cliché service.

    (c) make a right click on the Volume Shadow Copy service (VSS) and select Properties. Check if it is started.

    (d) if it is stopped, select start or restart. Make sure that the service is started and set as Automatic.

    (e) click on apply and OK, if you make changes.

    (f) check the status of the issue.

Method 3: T emporarily disable the security software and verify.

If the system restore works fine after you turn off the anti-virus, you can contact the manufacturer of security software and check if you need to change the settings.

    Disable the antivirus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

  • hard drive failure, System Restore, now all of my media and documents files are missing, just GONE. all ideas

I was workiing online, and I started to have problems with ie10, freezes, stop down, and then the entire HDD crashed, any program, file system went. System Restore used to regain control of my computer, but now all my media files, music, photos, everything is over. How can I identify and restore them. Documents open in word, but there is no trace of them in the library files... etc.

Your hard drive has failed. If she had done this you would have to buy and install a new one, and you would have lost everything.

If it just crashed and you have used system restore and running to get to the top, then all is not lost, probably... unless the files are damaged by the accident.
Do a search on your hard drive. To find the word docs using "* .doc" (without the ""). To use "*.mp3" mp3, wmv files use "*.wmv" etc. The asterisk (*) is a wildcard and the search results will include all these files, the research is on your hard drive.
Make note of their location and then reorganize their or re - point your assets their location.

  • Windows Home Server 2011 complete system restore problem = cannot start the LAN adapter

Network adapter Atheros AR8151 PCI-E on the map connected to the LAN Cat6

    Windows Pro 10

Windows Home Server 2011 on LAN

I had a hard drive failure partial who gave no symptoms or errors except a VERY slow start-up and operation.  I tried to do a restore of the entire system of my Home Server 2011 backups to see if, perhaps, just the image was corrupt.  USB was created and all drivers copied from pilots for the full system restore folder.  Has started the full restoration of the system and loaded the missing NETWORK adapter driver by using the scanner for drivers.  Driver support was successful but no lights NIC and the message "cannot find server".  NETWORK card was working fine before, even with the bad hard drive and also after the abandonment of the restoration.  Installed the new drive hard C:-System and that was the main problem, BUT..., the later to restore attempt was always the NIC starts not problem.  Tried the driver directly at Gigabyte support and drivers drivers for the full restoration of the system of records from several different backups.  No love.  Just NIC does not start after the specified load successful pilot.

    d. click Finish.

Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

    Hello CWilson13,

Welcome to the Microsoft Windows Vista Forum.

1 > what happen when you try to restore the system to normal mode?

2 > are you an error when you try to install updates from windows update?

3 > you get an error during the installation of other programs?

About the judgment issue please check if you are able to stop the laptop in safe mode correctly. If Yes, then we must verify the issue by performing a clean boot. Clean boot will help us understand if the problem is due to third and put into service or services.

The steps to do a clean boot is given in this link:
