Infected by a virus and programs are empty
I think we've got a virus. Of course, I can get on the internet, but in a weird way. My office is empty and "all programs" says "empty." I need to try the system restore, but cannot access it. I've tried everything. I don't know that much about computers, but I'm trying to avoid taking it to be fixed.
Try to run the restore of the system at the command prompt:
"How to start the System Restore tool by using the option of safe mode with the command prompt in Windows XP"
<>http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/304449 >It looks like your icons are hidden. Change your settings to show hidden files:
Panel-> folder-> View (tab) Options
Check the box "show the hidden files and folders".
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
OK your way out.If you find that your files are hidden, and then right click on them-> properties-> uncheck "hidden". -> OK

program files empty after diversion
My computer has been hijacked, all files were hidden. I think I fixed by passing through all the hidden files and unchecked, but now all my programes say they are empty. How can I get them back when I click on programes. I tried the system restore, but it is not one of a bygone era.
Have you run any cleaning temp file? If you run any cleaners then unhide.exe should bring these programs shortcuts to files.
Run Unhide.exe to remove the flags hidden files and folders.
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/Unhide.exeI wrote an article to EA about this infection which hides files and move desktop shortcuts and shortcuts startmenu of the program in the temp\smtmp folder.
Use MalwareBytes if the infection is still active.

If I click on start, all programs, the list of programs is empty.
If I go to the c drive and the programs folder, programs are still there and can be started, as all shortcuts are gone from the desktop. I beleave this is the result of a virus.
Hi Joseph,.
· What is the antivirus installed on the computer program?
Check to see if the following is useful.
Method 1: You can run the Microsoft Safety Scanner to check the infection by the virus. Check out the following link to do so.
Microsoft Safety Scanner - free online tool for PC health and safety
Method 2: Check to see if this article helps you to the question of the desktop icons.

I can't get Windows MEdia Player to start once I install it. My PC crashed and I reinstalled XP Pro. and did all the updates that were needed. Then I installed Media Player 11 and tried to boot, and it wouldn't start. I tried to boot from the program folder files, and still he wouldn't. I uninstalled and reinstalled several times and sometimes it worked once after installation then once you close it never starts again. What should I do to make it work. I need my music and videos.

Start "All programs" menu empty file (Windows Vista)
All my programs on my menu start "all programs" folder disappeared. There are a few but those I recently downloaded. Accessories is not yet there. I searched all cases online to find the authors response to repopulate my all programs, but without success.
I have restarted my computer several times. I did an analysis of checker (SFC) to file system. I ran a registry by Uniblue Fixer; I tried antivirus scans and analyses ad-aware; nothing seems to work. I still have all my programs and have lost but they are simply not easy access and I really want to take the time to build my own folder "all programs." I really want my old one back. But how?
And P.S. I can't just restore because I never ran a backup before, so there is nothing to restore.
Thank you!!!
1.) open the path below, replace the {username} with your own login
Start\program C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start
2.) look if there is nothing there. If there is not something, it means it is initially empty. Meaning, it could have been deleted accidentally away.Recovery of most of them back

I lost the Microsoft Fax program.
I had a few problems with the Microsoft Fax program, so I thought that I turn it off and then turn it back on to see if that solves the problem. However, after going to control panel, Add/Remove Programs/...etc. I found that it removed the program completely and I can't put it back on. Now the problem is compounded by the fact that when I bought my computer came with Windows XP on it, it has not come with installation CD MSFax is available for download on the internet? All the Fax I see available for download are either expensive programs (and I use everything as often a Fax) or they have a very low limit as to how many you can fax. How can I get for my WinXP installation discs?

If you do not have a Windows XP installation CD, you can have the files on your hard drive in C:\i386 or C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

I want to know what are subfolders with blue color lettrers in my program folder of windows that look at this $ $MS13Uninstall_kB893803v2.
These files contain data for uninstall programs and updates.
they are created during the installation of the programs and updates and contain a card to the back/improper installation. so if the uninstall files are deleted manually, then the system loses the ability to uninstall all files and registry keys that have been installed.
so for the example provided in your thread topic, that particular file refers to the kb893803 and you'll find probably listed as a windows update in afforestation programmes.
You can also search the Web for more inforamation on that Ko.

My fax program just stopped working (Dell PC Fax). I tried to reinstall the program and many other things. I did change anythin on my computer except the re-registration of Norton, who has since been removed and replaced by McAfee.
When I try to open it, it says just 'Dell Fax Solutions Software has stopped working' and a 'problem' bring it to stop working.
As far as I can tell it is said the fm3032d.dll is absent, but it is installed on my computer, I show.
Thanks for your suggestions.Hi scottishpony,
Please use the forum for Support of Vista,
When you remove Norton, it is recommended to download and run their removal tool to remove all remnants of Norton on your computer components before installing another antivirus.
