File association for Dummies

Hello

I have read several articles on how to associate files with a thinapp but been completely missed something. Can someone take me through this step by step please, where files should do and what they should make reference. It doensnt need to be in a script, etc., I can do later once I know where thinreg must be and what controls are to indicate, for example, an Access .mdb file?

Help, please

JB

For example, let's say you have an Office 2007 package, you copied the files in the directory "bin" of the project at C:\VirtOffice2007. So, C:\VirtOffice2007 for example contain 'Microsoft Office Access 2007.exe', 'Microsoft Office Word 2007.exe' and 'Microsoft Office Professional 2007.dat '. You then run

thinreg c:\VirtOffice2007\*.exe

and after that .mdb, .docx etc extensions will point to the Virtual Office 2007 package, so by double-clicking a .mdb file should launch the virtual access application.

  • Cancel the file association for extension .lnk to origin of the "unknown program" settings

I got interrupted and changed the file on the extension .lnk association to my browser.  Now, all shortcuts open with the browser.
I need to restore this file associated with the unknown program.

I tried running system restore, but it fails for reasons unknown, but probably because of a call to a .lnk (?) file

I'm not allowed to change any combination of files for any type of file... If I try to associate a file type with a program that I can't the box is grayed out to always open the file with this program, for example, if I try to open .py (programming in python language file) with python from another program whenever I have to right click and open with python, but if I want to choose the "always use". the selected program to open this type of file"is grayed on I can not change it... pls help

    Hi VikkHckrz,

    1. you remember to make changes to the computer recently?

    Method 1:

You can consult the following KB article and run the fix it tool available and check if you can assign file association.

When you run an .exe on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7 computer file, the file may start another program

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950505

    Also check out the link:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default

After running the fixit so check the option is grayed out or not.

    Method 2:

If you're still having problems, then you can try to change the settings in the registry only if it is present on your computer and check if it helps.

    a. Click Start, type regedit in the search box and press ENTER.

    b. navigate to the

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer

    (c) in the right side of the screen, double click on "NoFileAssociate".

    d. change the value of "NoFileAssociate" from 1 to 0.

    e. exit the registry editor and restart the computer and check.

Important: The above mentioned steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow the steps from the link below:

When I go to the Menu 'Open with' by do right click and choose the program by default, the box to make the selected program, the default is grayed out. DO NOT change the extension of a file type, because you will never be able to open this file. To save an attachment, click on file, save attachments. At the bottom of the window that opens is the place where this file is saved. You can change this location by clicking the Browse button. Once the attachment is saved, for example, in the Documents folder, navigate to that folder and double-click on this MAP. To open PPS files, you must have PowerPoint or the free PowerPoint Viewer installed. If you do not, go here:

  • accidentally changed my file association for utorrent and now not loading the game and programs and browsers

I accidentally changed something in my computer that shuts down my computer to open all the files, I can't even open the Microsoft Fit it online because when I go to install it, I get a pop up window asking me what program I want to run with, but none of the programs offered in the window will work to open the program file. I remember a couple of days ago I have has download a torrent file and one open pop-up window and asked me what program I wanted to associate this file type, I clicked on the option of utorrent, now none of my games, movies or programs run, when I click on them and try to open them I get the same pop-up box asking what application I want to use to open the program with.
am beyond frustration with this, I even uninstalled my UTorrent program hoping that would solve the problem, but no luck, the game/files/movies and browsers does not start without changing the file to open with something that is not available in the list of the programs listed.,.

I would be really grateful for the help in reassociating my files for the games will be automatically start as before.

    Hi, Tommy.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about the ISO files. What I found on the web said I would need to buy the software to use an and needs real BACK. I have only windows "DOS". Where I'd get an ISO, anyway? DBAN come with any operating instructions?

I am also not clear how to deal with the computer once I have scratched Windows. I beginning to think that I am either going to have to pay for help with this or just keep the old PC. You see, I received training in days BACK, but I am 100% self-taught over the past 10 years on Windows, so there are strange gaps in my knowledge.

I appreciate your help, however. I think I'll download and try the eraser.

File crushers (gum, CCleaner, etc.) are good if you know everything that you want to delete off the machine.  In case you get rid of the machine and want to be sure there is no record of you have left on it-, you need to use something like DBAN.

    So, quick tutorial.

-Stop overthinking.  You started to mention BACK and others when DBAN is stand-alone, all-in-one, everything that you need in a single package, if you get the ISO file, burn this CD image on a CD/DVD, boot with it and go through the menus dead-simple.  So, you know that everything has disappeared.

DBAN essentially writes zeros to each part of your disc several times.  He makes sure * anything * you there are more (Windows and applications included.)

It comes in an ISO format, or a picture of a CD which - in this case - should be changed from this image on a real CD again.

Own FAQ of DBAN page shows you how to create a real CD bootable using some free software and to download:
    http://www.DBAN.org/FAQ/burning

In general, you get a utility that allows you to burn ISO to CD images (they recommend CDBurnerXP, I like ISORecorder) and download you the ISO of DBAN: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dban/files/dban/dban-2.2.6/dban-2.2.6_i586.iso/download and save it, then use a blank CD - R, your CD/DVD burner drive and the program you have chosen to change this ISO image to a CD real by the statement for this program.  Usually nothing more than a click or two or even a choice of menu right-click on the ISO file.

Once you have the CD created, you start with it.  To do this with your Dell, it's easy.  Put the CD in the drive and close it.  Turn off the computer.  Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the "F12" key slowly - and once per second - nice and even, until a menu appears asking you what you want to boot from.  Choose your CD/DVD drive and watch the start.  Choose the right choice in the menus.  Or the other methods 'DoD' should be more than enough and choose some readers it lists to make sure that all that.  Then you go and you wait.  When it's done, you don't probably get almost anything on this drive.

  • File associations for Contribute 3?

I know that Contribute can import content from a variety of Office formats directly, but there a "native" format he ' owns '? I know that the user can add new extensions to file for registration, but how different extensions Contribute comes it configured to use?

During the installation process, what file extensions is the program wants to be the default application?

    Thank you.

Contribute does not take possession of the web extensions and does not have a native file extension. It uses no connection keys that use the extension .stc. Default Contribute already knows he'll be editing .html files - if you need your files to be changed with another program like Dreamweaver, you change the default value of the editor via Edit > preferences > file editors > source Web page and then choose Dreamweaver or in Notepad.
