File Explorer Windows 7 shows a non-empty folder in a vacuum.
Here's a question that I have no idea how to fix on a Home Premium Windows 7 box. I copied 110 GB of data in a folder named "c:\old disks" earlier. All files where showing well after the copy was completed. Then a few months later, I noticed that I no longer see these files inside this folder in the file Explorer. When I get home, the Explorer displays message "this folder is empty" in the files Panel. The verification of the drive, set all Full permissions and made all the accessible files writable. No go! At the command prompt, I can navigate the tree of directories very well, see all of the files, their sizes, etc.. Watch File Explorer also, that the record is 110 GB in size. So clearly it is not empty. It shows again, no file or directory inside. Please indicate how I can activate the file Explorer view the contents of this folder? I've never seen this problem before on all versions of Windows OS, I can't find much info related to this problem on the net.
Thank you very much

I initially reported above. Since then, I solved the problem by going to the command line and the removal of an attribute hidden on all files in this folder tree. All files have shown right after this process completed.

File Explorer Windows 8 crashes whenever I do a right click on the USB key.
File Explorer Windows 8 crashes every time I do a right click on installed - everything - USB or flash key and try to choose options, such as format, rename them or properties. Windows Explorer crashes, closed its doors, and I'm sent back to the Start Page. This happens with any USB key, on one of the ports on my computer, which I have at least 10.
I can left click on USB in the file Explorer, and held one still able to open or interact with any file in the USB. I can save to the USB port of any other program, and I can usually eject it in the taskbar. The only problem is I can't do a right click on the USB key and select a function without kicks back to the start page and the file Explorer is restarted.
My version of Windows 8 is an upgrade to Windows 7. I have already tried a restart secure, and even in this State, the accident continues.
I had the same problem with any flash/stick/key USB on my system (64-bit) Windows 8 Pro. I started out of the blue, had not installed a new software or updates. I couid do a right-click on the drive and get the menu, but any action in the menu I chose stop and restart Windows Explorer (without any error message.) I also tried the cleanboot approach with no luck.
The solution that worked was to move the mouse to the bottom left of the screen and right click.
Select prompt (Admin)
in the cmd window, type:
sfc/scannow
and press ENTER.
After about 15 minutes (about 4 minutes to check and then a little more than 11 minutes waiting while he was working in the background - but it seemed frozen. My system is an i7, 16 GB of Ram, 512 GB SSD drive - so your time may vary), I received a message that some corrupt files had been repaired and some had not. The newspaper was in a txt file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS if the log file was inaccessible. I got a popup access denied .
I rebooted the system and everything was fine and the problem of USB has been fixed. -
Hello
I can't drag and drop a png file from File Explorer Windows 10 in an open file in Photoshop CS3. I'm able to do that in Illustrator CS3 and am wondering if there is a fix for this or is just not possible.
I know others who claim that they are able to cela and would appreciate any help to find the solution, if it exists, like many, many hours to research and trials have failed.
Thanks in advance.
Hi davep91520459,
I just installed PS CS 3 on my machine and tested, windows 7 and it seems that you can't drag and drop the image to another image in PS CS 3, it opens a new document, so I guess it is supposed to work like this, and this feature was introduced in the later version of PS.

Does anyone know why you can't display RAW .dng thumbnails of image files in the file Explorer Windows 8.1 even with the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack installed.
Other RAW files appear as thumbnails without problem (e.g. Nikon. NEF files). I could see dng thumbnails in Windows 7, but not with Windows 8.1. Perhaps, Adobe did not share the appropriate information. for Microsoft to get there?
See if you know how to see the dng thumbnails and can help me to do the same.
Michael
I know this thread is a bit old, but sometimes 2nd research google (15/07/15).
This Adobe DNG Codec works in point 8.1. Its slow generate thumbnails, as against cr2 but works.

Looking at my history of folder in Windows 7, I see some files that no longer exist on my PC, but still appear in my story. I would like to know how to get rid of them. I tried to look in the internet options, as deleting the history of IE is the closest thing to you that I could find, but there is nothing there to affect the file Explorer. Also, I couldn't find anything in the folder for this options.
Hi DaNorm,
Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.
Go to the following location on your computer and delete the contents of the historical record. And then check if your problem is resolved.

AppData is a hidden folder, so you will need to follow the steps below to view it.
1. Click Start and then click computer.
2. click on tools (if you are unable to see Tools option, and then press the ALT key on the keyboard).
3. Select folder options.
4. on the view tab, select Show hidden files and folders (in advanced settings)
5. now click on the Ok button.

FILE EXPLORER Windows 10 does not work
I upgraded from windows 7 Home Windows 10. Everything worked for three months. Now my file manager does not work. If I double click on a shortcut, nothing happens. No message or errors, no feedback at all. If I select file from the menu 10 windows Explorer it lists recent locations, but if I click on anything that it is once more the window closes and no feedback of any kind. To access my files, I have to go well as the search for application files. Is no more, I can add folders or improve my organization of files. Of course he used to work so I guess it has become corrupt. What do we do to fix this problem, I see, it is a common problem in looking at the forums for microsoft, but no one said a suggested fix worked.
Hello
Here what's new on the win10 File Explorer:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-10/getstarted-whats-changed-in-file-explorer
And here is the solution:The service is called Windows search and disabled once it provided functionality in the file Explorer. The search function in the file Explorer works but isn't looking in the taskbar.
Step by step guide:
1. hold Win + r to open the run
2. type msconfig and click ok or enter
3. click on Services
4. go to Windows search (you can sort the list in descending alphabetical order)
5. clear the check box
6. click apply then ok
7. Select restart now
I hope it works for you. -

There is no keyboard shortcut command in Vista to make appear this http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Keyboard-shortcutsfile browser. I could not find any reference to the file anywhere Explorer (not not even Microsoft if you say ITI carried the logo).-I don't think it comes with Vista (even though it may have carried over from earlier versions if you upgraded to Vista). Maybe you have installed other software that provides this feature but I have no idea how recrete it or access it.
Try going to start / find and grabs the file browser and see if you get hits.
In the case otherwise, you'll just have to hope make you this soul "error" again, but this time realize what you were doing, so you can access it again.
Sorry we couldn't help you any tha before that.

File Explorer Windows 8 crashes often
I have two new 8 PC under Windows - purchased separately, for the office and a laptop - desktop and both have the same problem with the file Explorer: fails.
File Explorer looks incredibly unstable, that it crashes several times a day, sometimes several times after another while doing a simple copy/paste.The full desktop gray out and restarts.I don't know that there is no solution to this because I think that Windows 8 has not matured and he feels buggy Vista, but all suggestions are welcome.Hi PA_Rush,
Have you installed new software that may have created a Manager right click context menu?
By your description of the problem that the software may have been software to view the photos.
If so, uninstall this software or disable Management menu for the context of the software.
If you are not sure about the software the following link has some info and download ShellExView you can use to selectively disable third-party management context menus to find a problem:
http://WindowsXP.MVPs.org/slowrightclick.htm
You can try to disable all managers of context menus not Microsoft and then, if the problem resolves to reactivate them one at a time to see what the problem was.

Explorer Windows stopped working when opening a folder
Hello
I get this error "Windows Explorer has stopped working" for the past few months, every time I try to open a particular folder that contains 10-15 .avi files. This folder is located on an external hard drive and when I plugged the hard drive of a computer running XP it's the same thing. It throws this error and gives me 2 options,
1. check online for a solution and restart the program.
2. restart the program.
According to the option that I chose it closes all the windows in the Solution Explorer, and nothing happens.
I tried to copy the file from external hard disk to the local computer and the same thing happens when I try to access it. I don't think that's the problem with my computer as the same thing happens also on the XP machine.
Please suggest what to do.

Search for the file Explorer: Windows 7
I know that I am probably post again a question has been asked hundreds of times before... But the research question of Windows 7 even been taken down like a real fault? There is no other way I can see to ask this question outside not be re-directed to a forum looking for answers, then see frustration of countless other users, so I put back on with a new post.
I wrote a test and training post to possibly one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom and my role of testing software noting flaws and then decide whether it should be rolled out and then reap the benefits of its use.
All other packages had small defects but none of which has a few advantages outweigh
I literally user acceptance tested search to death and read dozens of user help guides on indexing. The more generic computer users is the admin rights/time/support or the know how to do that on a large number of readers huge network.
In short, I guess the question I ask is when users want to find a file by name, why they are not getting the results they are looking for and if it is a question of indexation why?
Help me to Microsoft, you're my only hope.
Search has changed over the years. Modern versions of Windows have so many files that the default search will filter all files it think users don't want to see. It works fine most of the time, but if a user starts using non-standard file types can cause an immense amount of frustration.
It is always nice to have alternatives to the risk of re - direct you once again here is even more:
I can restore the search for style XP to Windows 7? -
Explorer window - opens in itself non-stop
I have Vista and Explorer opens the window no stop itself if I'm on the computer with the help of it or until the next day. I'll get to the computer in the morning and find 20 to 30 sessions open. Please help me solve this problem.
Hi Mary 999.
1. When did you start to question?
2. did you of recent changes to the system?
3. you receive messages or error codes?
Step 1: You can check if the problem occurs in safe mode.
Start your computer in safe mode
Step 2:
If you are not faced with the question in safe mode, then you can try to perform a clean boot and check.
A clean boot to check if startup item or services to third-party application is causing this issue.
You can read the following article to put the computer in a clean boot:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
After you resolve the problem, see the section on boot link to how to restore your computer to a Normal startup mode.
Step 3:
You can read the following article and try to download the Microsoft Safety Scanner and perform a full scan on your computer.
Note: When you perform the analysis, there are chances of losing the data that you can take a backup of important data before performing analysis.
Check if there is information in Event Viewer which may help us to solve the problem:
What are the information contained in the logs of the event (Event Viewer)?
Hope this information is useful.

Premiere Pro sometimes crashes when you open a file Explorer window
Hello
I've had this problem for a while now but have never been able to find a solution. Basically if I use something within Premiere Pro that opens a Windows Explorer dialog box (for example, when you choose a custom LUT), the program sometimes goes a little crazy.
The dialog boxes is not pop up and the program becomes unclickable. And when you try to click on what, whether it gives it its particular of Windows. That occurs when you use a program and a dialog box has popped up and you try to click outside the dialog box.
In the past, if I tried to end task and then cancelled, the program will open. However, with the last update things became different. It unlock again, but the program does funny things as it won't save. It does not update the video window when you rub. Etc., basically it becomes unusable and you will need to complete the task without being able to save your work.

File Explorer Windows 8 cannot remember window size
Is it too ask Microsoft to send us a fix in a simple update?
I think you'd have a hard time to convince them. It is not a broken fix, capacity was cut very intentionally because of the intensive what it was. Storing a value in each folder for all users, was overwhelming registry and networks as the available user storage is mounted exponentially higher with storage on disk at little cost. Instead of a 5-10 GB drive of Windows 2000, readers are closing hundreds of times greater (and more of course in enterprise environments). Somewhere, there is a blog of the engineering team that cut this feature. I'll try to find it.
Excuse my thumb I typed this on my phone.

Suggestions:
Run a file system check to see if it can find some bad files and if he can fix it for you.
Directions for use:Start button > Search box type cmd > look up, do a RIGHT click oncmd.exe > click onRun As Administrator > in this window cmd black and white, type at the prompt flashing sfc/scannow > press theENTER key.
Note: there is a space between 'sfc' and ' / '.
To sit and wait. It will take time.
When finished, exit the cmd window.
Reboot (restart your computer)After the hell of a file, see if you still have the same problem.
See also, what said result sfc/scannow. If he says he finds wrong files, but impossible to fix, then you can download the CBS.
Here's how:
