File sharing without IP layer natively via Ethernet on Windows

Hello

First of all, I apologize for asking such a practical question, but just out of curiosity.
I would like to know if there is a way to share data (such as files, etc) via the ethernet network without the period of INVESTIGATION (or IP layer as a whole). The solution must use Layer 2 only.
I see that it is possible with windows 3.1 until the introduction of 3.11 in the following document. But nothing else.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mbaybarsk,

Your Windows XP question is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for Windows Server on TechNet. Please post your question in the TechNet Windows Server forum.

  • File sharing between two computers with DIFFERENT Versions of Windows (XP & Vista)

I just bought a WRT54G4 Wireless-G router broadbad & am a n00bie to this any thng in network.  I like the current state of things now, all considering that both my desktop PC (Windows XP Home Edition) & my laptop wireless PC (Windows Vista Home Premium) are online (local & Internet) BUT I can't seem to get things while my desktop PC sharing files which can then be read and otherwise accessible by the laptop.

    Here's what I'm trying to...

    * Have BOTH computers access the Internet via a private network (which I already managed to do)

    * Having the Office to share files that are accessible (wireless or not) from my laptop

Essentially, I want to be able to use the TWO HDs according to needs.

My office is an old computer AMD Duron 1 Ghz. with 512 MB RAM & can handle a FEW small spots, but the big gun is my laptop (A 1.86 Ghz. Intel Pentium with 3 GB of RAM). Because of his speed & memory, I would like to have the laptop handle larger & more intensive tasks.

Although my laptop has a smaller hard drive compared to my office (A 136 GB HD in the office (200 GB) compared to a 141 GB (I guess this HD is around this size, but since it came pre-installed, & I am currently leasing to buy, I don't know), I would like to be able to use if possible of the TWO HDs.)  All I need is for both computers see the two HDs & all the files on it.

I tried implementing the sharing of files, as shown elsewhere on the Linksys site, but he lost when I rebooted both my computers, since that's what the page told me to do (I followed Windows XP as the Office has all the files that I want to share & Windows XP is the operating system of the desktop).  Should I have not done this?

In addition, my ultimate goal is to GET RID of the big bulky monitor I connected to the back end of my desktop PC & all simply use the laptop instead, because it does not take a lot of desktop space.  Y at - it an emulator "Virtual monitor" or software of some sort that I can download (for FREE please ) that will allow me to see the jobs of all the computers on my network, just as if I

had REAL monitors?  If so, where could I find one?

In short, together, I have accomplished a lot lately since I bought the router & linked computers, as you can see, I still need help & I've got some learning to do.

Any help I can get would be MOST appreciated.

Make sure that the file and printer sharing is enabled...

Also, make sure the computer are in the same workgroup...

Default workgroup in Windows Vista has been renamed to WORKING group. In Windows XP, the default workgroup name is MSHOME...

Also go into the computer on each computer software firewall and set it to "trust", other computers on your network.
If your firewall or PC security program maintains a list of approved applications (also known as a "zone of confidence"), so make sure that your router is in the zone of confidence on your firewall...

  • Impossible to activate permanent "network discovery and file sharing" in advanced sharing without turning windows firewall at the wide service.

    Environment:

I have a workgroup Windows 8 pro PC with all updates from Windows update. The PC is connected via WiFi (home) to a router (the same thing happens if I am connected to the router directly via RJ45). It's my "private network (NAT). I have the Windows Firewall is enabled in its default configuration. I use "Windows Defender" as my protection\firewall of virus software.  "When I go to: change options for sharing different network profiles" under advanced sharing options. I try to turn on file sharing and network discovery in the private profile. It shows that "the private sector is the current profile. The radio button lights. However, when I go to the file Explorer / network I got the message ' network discovery and file sharing are turned off. " The network computers and devices are not visible. Click here to change... " I click to change, however when I click to change it keeps returning and gives me the same message. I then go in ""network control and Internet\Network and sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings " and the option buttons in private profile for the network discovery and file sharing are turned off."

If I turn off the Windows Firewall. Everything works. I need to open a hole in the windows firewall for 2 applications was discovered and network file sharing. I opened rather not just blindly ports. However, if this is the only solution, what ports do I need open.

  • My verse ATT modem (non apple devices to use this modem} is connected to the ATT line, Time Capsule (iPhones, Macs Time Capsule use) via ethernet Uverse.) Non apple devices can collect data from iPhones or Mac using the time Capsule?

My verse ATT modem ({use of devices not apple wifi of this modem} is connected to the ATT line, Time Capsule (iPhones, Macs use the wifi of the time Capsule) and connect to the Uverse modem via ethernet.)

Both devices are set to the highest security and each uses separate passwords.

Non apple devices can collect data from iPhones or Mac using the time Capsule?

With a bit of work by someone who knows how to do such things, not Apple computers could read some files on the Mac if file sharing is configured on the network... devices non-Apple and... He knew the device passwords or administrator for Macs.

Mac could also play the files on other Macs if file sharing has been implemented and the device password or admin was known.

If you ask if a PC can read the files on the Time Capsule, the answer is Yes, without doubt, assuming that the PC knew the password of device for the time Capsule.

  • Is Linux - possible to build a shared library that calls other libraries shared without having to make a static link to them?

    Hello

Operating system = Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32-bit)

I am building a shared library *. so.  This *.so should be used by LabVIEW.  This *.so is calling other functions in shared libraries.  In my case, the other library share is libxml2 and libz.  The only way I could compile my shared library and operate was a static link from libxml2.a and libz.a.  Is there a way to make a dynamic link?

Here's the makefile file that I use.  The goal of 'TestValidateSchema' compiles the shared without the static link library and this shared library is called by an application to test 'c' and it works.  Now, to make it work in LabVIEW, I need to make a static link, as you can see in the target ' install: «otherwise the function "call library node" throws me a symbol unresolve...»»

This is the only way to do it and if yes why?

    Thank you

    --------------------------------

    CC = gcc

    all: TestValidateSchema

    TestValidateSchema: testValidateSchema.c
    $(CC) o Release/validateschema.o - c - wall - Werror - fpic Src / validateschema.c - I. / Include-I/usr/include/libxml2
    $(CC) - shared-o./Release/libvalidateschema.so./Release/validateschema.o
    $(CC) - wall o ./release/testvalidateschema testValidateSchema.c./Release/validateschema.o-lxml2

    clean:
    $(RM) $(OBJS)./Release/testvalidateschema./Release/libvalidateschema.so./Release/validateschema.o /usr/include/validateschema.h /usr/lib/libvalidateschema.so

    install:
    $(CC) o Release/validateschema.o - c - wall - Werror - fpic Src / validateschema.c - I. / Include-I/usr/include/libxml2
    $(CC) - shared-o./Release/libvalidateschema.so./Release/validateschema.o Src/libxml2.a Src/libz.a

    --------------------------------------

In addition to what said Daniel on the specification of an external shared library in the liaison stage of your version of the shared library, together with the - shared option, there is still one thing to consider:

Your library of hello.so then contains references to functions in external shared libraries libxml.so and zlib.so. When LabVIEW calls dlopen ("/ path/dir/hello.so",...) it basically hands of any control in the linker Linux running, ld.so that takes care of the rest. LD.so then try to load the shared library, recognizing that there are external references and try to solve.

First he tries to match the missing external references to any symbols that have been previously loaded into the current process already. If this is not successful for a particular system, it queries the ldcache for a library and a symbol. ldcache is updated with the ldconfig program. When you add a new shared library on the system that you want the linker ld.so runtime in order to find, run ldconfig.

NOTE: Running ldconfig is not normally necessary to shared libraries that access you directly via the node call library, as you specify here the full access to your custom library shared already, so path ld.so will fail immediately if it is not the library specified in the given absolute position and will not attempt to query ldcache at all.

If you are installing packages through your package manager platform update ldcache for all publicly accessible libraries shared in these packages is usually done automatically for you as part of the package installation script. If however you manually install the libraries you need to run ldconfig yourself. In your case, you could add the libxml.so and/usr/lib zlib.so and simply run ldconfig from the command-line as it default search/lib and/usr/lib for libraries shared and rebuilt the ldcache from that. If you add your new libraries in a different directory on your computer you need to run ldconfig with - n option, saying what directory the new shared libraries have been installed.

I doubt that anyone can have a clear idea without being particularly familiar with your system/network.

If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

  • Connecting 2 HP printers via Ethernet?

Hi, new to the forum. Noticed the badge of 'Day of the Expert' on the HP site and thought it would be a good place to ask. Trying to give as much detail as possible. My apologies in advance if the message appears long

I wonder if someone can provide a walkthrough on how to connect 2 HP printers to a desktop HP via Ethernet with a router/modem configuration installed. #1 printer is a Deskjet 6988; #2 printer is Photosmart c309a; PC is a p6623w of flag recently bought at Wal-Mart and upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium to W7 Ultimate. I think it's one of the most recent "Slimline" computers with a minimum of available ports and for problems of space (the entire installation is in a bedroom, with most devices and devices on a desk), I can't really plug a USB hub with several sons (and nowhere to put the hub) and connect the stuff. In addition, there are other computers in the House: two laptops, Pavilion dm1z and Pavilion dv6 - 3227cl, respectively and also with W7 (dm1z = W7 professional, dv6 = Home Premium), on which I would use shared printing (but "home group" met with mixed results). DSL modem is a 6100 Westell Verizon's connected to a Linksys router #WRT320N. I consider myself as moderately / intermediate level "techies" and can understand a little how to perform maintenance / installation routine I receive once the steps in a detail 1-2-3 format (preferably with photos and other visuals!) Some specific questions I have, as well as more details on the configuration of the computer, are listed below. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

    Issues related to the:

    (1) physical installation is kind of a "Frankenwerk" configuration, with the wires used devices is more internal (but apparently the standard regarding the adapters Ethernet/USB/ca / go). Am a little confused, however, of what is required when making the connection: have 1 yellow cable plugged into the Ethernet port on the Linksys router and the Ethernet port on the modem. There is also a wire Blue connecting port #1 the Linksys router to the Ethernet port on the desktop. Will I need to buy additional cables to connect the 6988 and c309a, and ultimately, where should I connect all of them?

    (2) seems every time I want to try an install (and allegedly to succeed), I later get error messages in the Device Manager MS on a 'WPD file system Volume driver", specifically"this device cannot start (Code 10)." What is the WPD driver and how is it related to the printer (not exactly which), and how to avoid these mistakes in the future?

  • WRT610N/RT31P2 Internet OK, no file sharing / print

I installed a WRT610N router this weekend.  The 610N takes care of my local positions Microsoft network and connects via the Ethernet port to a RT31P2, where my phone is connected.  The RT31P2 is connected to a cable modem.

After a pass to a Linksys tech, Internet access for all 4 computers connected to the WRT610N works.  VoIP phone service works.  The only thing that doesn't work is not is the file sharing and printers on the network Windows.

All systems running versions of Norton Internet Security (as they were when he is on the cable network) and the Windows Firewall is off.  The four systems show in the table of DHCP reservations, but none of them can see themselves as part of the working group.

Any ideas what may cause this?

Problem solved.  New versions of Norton require that each individual computer be labelled with full trust from the view of the network card rather than enter a range of IP addresses of trusted network.
