Firefox blocks windows

Firefox freezes randomly. Not only the browser freeze, my whole OS seems to be affected as well. My mouse moves and I can get the start menu to pop up, but that's all. CTRL + Alt + Delete does not work.

If I click on the Firefox window, it turns gray, says "do not answer", then after about 45 seconds of waiting, it recovers. Sometimes it is not back and I have to do a hard reboot.

At first, I thought that it was a problem of flash, however it happens randomly without repeating pattern.

Firefox Version 16.0.2

Installed addons:

AdblockPlus
DownloadStatusBar
SearchStatus

I love firefox for its customization capabilities, but it's really killing my experience as it happens at least once every 15 minutes or more.

Any ideas?

You can try to check in the new profile.

Profile Manager

Files & profile folder

Also, if this happens with a lot of programs open + if you have enough RAM, you can try to temporarily disable the page file (Control Panel > system > advanced system settings > advanced > settings (the one in the foreground) > advanced > change > No. swap file, restart Windows and check.)

  • Firefox blocks window to download wireless tether with Android

Download Firefox freezes Windows, not good. Here's the situation: I open Firefox, go to a web page that wants me to download a file (as a PDF file, but it does not matter), download the file and BOOM, windows freezes COMPLETELY. The mouse is frozen on the screen, not ctrl-alt-delete, not nothing. I still have the image of the screen, but it froze HARD. My only option is a long wait on the power button. Also, this happens on Gmail attachment downloads, exact same symptoms. (As a note, I'm really open up the files, such as PDFs in the browser.) I have download and possibly open with proper application, on everything. This deadlock occurs regardless if I have just download or upload to temp and open.)

I did a LOT of tests, and this only happens when I am attached to my Droid through "Wireless Tether" which is an ad - hoc connection. Everything works fine if it's a regular wifi connection or a connection through an ethernet cable. In addition, I don't have this problem with Chrome, is strictly a Firefox/Droid combination of attachment problem. I am running version 12 of Firefox. I disabled (set to False) the browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone in Firefox option. I also disabled my analysis of files in Windows Defender. Absolutely, I know that I have no other running virus software, and I keep VERY close tabs on all my applications to start (both in files and registry), and I am VERY sure that I don't have a virus.

It is an easily reproducible problem for me, and it is not a good thing. I ardently Firefox, but I travel a lot and often use my Droid as a strap to access internet, I do right now. All other times (and everything else in Firefox) works absolutely fine with the tie strap, that I have a central computer (I7, 8 GB, and graphics ATI 5870). Whenever I have a problem, I hit out there, but this one is VERY serious.

I dearly love Firefox and don't want to switch to Chrome, but it is serious enough that he told me he plans. Any advice or a quick fix would be highly appreciated.

When this happens, the droid shows something unusual? It indicates whether the file is actually downloaded or download is frozen (not sure if there is an application that shows only)? I guess that you attempted to escape Frost by pulling the USB cable, but if not, you could try that.

Are you using Firefox native download or Download Manager add-on? If you have an add-on, I assume you have tested without it, but if you haven't, please give that a try.

You can also try the Mode without failure of Firefox to see if your modules or custom settings might be the culprit.

First of all, I recommend you backup your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See your backup information. (You can copy your profile folder Firefox together somewhere outside the Mozilla folder).

Then restart Firefox in Safe Mode to help

Help > restart with disabled modules

In the Safe Mode dialog box, do not check the boxes, just click "continue mode without failure."

I realize that this test is potentially very bad news (lock-up), but... I don't know any other way to determine if that helps you.

  • There seems to be a MAJOR problem (blocking/memory leak) in "subject: House", also known as the Firefox Start Page, at 26.0 Firefox on Windows!

There seems to be a MAJOR problem (blocking/memory leak) in "subject: House", also known as start up Firefox, 26.0 Firefox Page, Windows!

    seen on:
-Windows 7 x 64 machine with 12 GB of RAM and high performance CPU (core i7-920)
-Comments Machine virtual WinXP SP3 (in Oracle VirtualBox) running on the same computer
-Intel Atom D525 netbook with 4 GB of RAM, running Win7 x 64

None of these machines are connected through Sync or something like that. The Firefox instance on the virtual machine is a fresh install / clean.

    The problem:
-100% of cpu usage for 10 seconds, (util in XP) memory usage goes up to 1.7 GB
-If "subject: House" is actually the Firefox Start Page, it blocks the computer at startup of Firefox for 10 seconds
-If "subject: House" isn't the Firefox Start Page, startup is fine - BUT if I press the "home" on the toolbar button it loads "on: House" which causes the same question once again

Sounds that there is a problem with one of the code snippets that are responsible. I've seen several reports on this issue.

You can set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref an empty string on the subject: the page of config to disable loading (new) checked to see if that helps.

  • Latest Firefox block reported attack sites...

Hi all, in the latest version of Firefox, the option "firefox block reported attack sites" is enabled by default. My question is, mettle is listed as one of these Web sites. I use mettle to allow people to download photos from events that I cover without having to affect the speed of my site... granted some might use mettle for wrong reasons, but not all.
So, what can I do? Not all visitors to my website would have the knowledge to turn this setting off...

Block page has been enabled by default for years, but blocking download has been added more recently, perhaps around early March when there was a wave of messages on it.

The list of bad sites come from secure Google service. Downloads of Firefox updated lists of blocking at regular intervals. It is questionable to block a whole file, hosting site based on a bad user, so I hope that the next iteration of the data file removes the block; We are all at the mercy of the data on it.

To check where your date file has been updated, you can watch here (type or paste into the start menu search box and press enter or use the Windows Run dialog box):

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

It's the cache and temporary files folder corresponding to your active profile folder. Double-click your most recently updated and secure profile folder. Normally, you will find that the files have been updated within the last day.

  • Firefox crashes Windows after updating to 38

It, I run Windows 8.1 on a laptop Lenovo Y510P SLI and after the upgrade to 38 launch of firefox blocks the BONES together. The screen freezes, the mouse or the keyboard are insensitive, but will continue to play all of the sounds in the background for a few more minutes until it stops too and the only thing I can do, it's power button to force a shutdown. I'm using the latest drivers from Nvidia geforce experiencr a few days ago and the firefox 38.0.5. I tried to download the developer edition, but the situation is the same - I see a UI very distorted and if I press the menu button, the system hangs. What should I do to solve the problem?

You can run Firefox in Safe Mode? It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

Does not work if Firefox: Hold down the SHIFT key when you start Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

    and OK reboot.

Two scenarios: A small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not update).

    Any less crashy?

If the problem not occur until you run some Flash Media, want to set the Flash Click-to-play (Ask 'activation'). This will delay the Flash start on a page, until you approve.

To set 'Ask to activate', open the page modules using either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click on Plugins. Search 'Shockwave Flash' and always change 'enable' to 'ask to activate '.

When you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification in the address bar icon and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an information bar slides between the toolbar and in the page area.

If you do not need to Flash, just ignore the notification.

It is also, some standard advice that addresses the most common issues with the Flash Player plugin. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:

    (1) If you have any recorders/downloaders who interact with Flash media to ensure that they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.

    (2) turn off the hardware acceleration in Flash

Right-click the press and choose settings, then the first mini tab and uncheck the box to use hardware acceleration. More information in this article from Adobe technical support: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues

    (3) turn off mode protected (Windows Vista and later)

The functionality of the safe_mode of the Flash player plugin has security benefits, but there seem to be some compatibility issues on some systems. There is a hidden for this parameter:

    (A) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (B) in the search above the list box, type or paste the flash and make a pause so that the list is filtered

    (C) double-click the preference dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable - protected mode to change its value from false to true.

It cannot take effect until all the Flash was discharged for a few minutes, or you close Firefox.

    Any improvement?

  • Firefox redirects Windows 10 "Hey Cortana" search

I use Firefox on Windows 10 42.0. The operating system correctly recognize Firefox as my default browser and uses the search engine by default for most of the research of Cortana, but all initiated with "Hey Cortana" voice command are performed via Bing instead of my default search engine (no matter what it is defined on). This does not affect searches typed in Cortana or voice searches after clicking on the microphone icon in Cortana.

I tried to restart Firefox in Safe Mode and refreshing to the profile nothing helps. I checked the option "Use this search for Windows search engine" is checked and that the "browser.search.redirectWindowsSearch" on: config option is set to True (as well as manually activating / disabling the option of two places).

The setting worked at the first time in 40 of Firefox, but stopped some time ago.

Could you... Take the exact URL of your search results "Hey Cortana" page?

Windows adds different settings for different types of research generated by the system and Firefox changes the site search for adults that it is coded in order to manage, all the others just pass through unchanged. Currently, Firefox search form = or FORM = these:

  • Firefox blocks some ads (non-secure content)

I noticed since the update 41 Firefox crashes some adsense ads from time to time, but not always.
When this happens Firefox displays an icon on the PlayBar to address

If I run Firefox in safe mode, I still get the same problem. The pages are served over http, not https if it matters. I can't disable protection manually and it works, but I wonder if this is a problem with some insecurities ads by Google, or Firefox incorrectly reports certain advertisements as non-secure.

OK - http://www.gstatic.com - is a non-secure server and Firefox do not have mixed content like this on a page secure otherwise.

  • Firefox on windows 8.1 is AutoFill password field when autocomplete is disabled.

    Hello.

Firefox (latest version) for windows is auto-fill a password field, even with AutoComplete is turned off.

The HTML code for the fields are:

    < input name = seized semiautomatic "member_password1" = "off" type = "password" >

    < input name = seized semiautomatic "member_password2" = "off" type = "password" >

Leave the empty password to automatically generate a password

In all other browsers, it works very well, and the saved password is not added, but Firefox on Windows 8.1 it is be populated automatically, with the registered user password.

Thanks - I'll see what I can find. Almost a shame Mozilla simply ignores these fields well.

This also applies to most of the icons/images in the page. This happens especially when CTRL + TAB / ALT + TAB in Facebook, but as has happened in some other sites.

This happened in the same build of Windows with the previous (I think as 38.0.0) version of Firefox. Windows has been reinstalled and it kept happening. Tried to disable all add-ins and I tried to start Firefox in safe mode, nothing has helped at all.

Why not develop a Version of WP in Firefox?

    It will certainly help you.

I know that 25 per cent of mobile users use WP.

And thousands of users want Firefox for WP too!

I'm not a developer of Firefox, but as far as I know, due to the policy of windows app store there is a technical barrier to the deployment of Firefox on windows phone. And Mozilla is also trying to put all efforts here on FirefoxOS (mobile operating system new here). So maybe it's why they aren't creation of Firefox for Windows mobile.
