Firefox cannot apply an update

Firefox used to be updated seamlessly when suddenly a message pops up saying that the update cannot be applied as there may be other instances of Firefox running. Who are not. And since then I can not update Firefox again.

You may waive this type of update.

Download the installer for Firefox ESR17

If necessary, run the installer in Windows safe mode. Setup of

seems to be the traditional type in offline mode and not a stub Installer.

Take care. There should be no need to uninstall Firefox 10 and do NOT use any option to delete personal settings or you will lose bookmarks and passwords.

  • Cannot apply the update to Acrobat DC

    Hello

Please note that this is NOT a question about the upgrade of an earlier version of Acrobat FOR Acrobat DC. I have successfully upgraded to Acrobat DC (volume, track classic, local, i.e. non-cloud, installation license), and it works well.

It IS a question on the application of a patch/update to Acrobat already installed domain controller. There is a patch available to update Acrobat DC of the current v15.6.30033 to v15.6.30060 of 'classic' track. This update fails with "error 28000, Installation of the Acrobat licensing Module has failed."

Googling brings up a lot of mentions of this error when you try to upgrade an earlier version of Acrobat (Acrobat X or XI) in Acrobat DC, but I can't find anything about this error appears when you apply a patch/update. Please note that I have many installs of the domain controller that have updated to v15.6.30060; only, many have failed, so I am confident that this isn't a problem with the patch. All PCs are fully Win7 enterprise, SP1 patches.

What I've tried so far: I deleted all the previous versions of all Adobe products from the computer, including files and registry entries, and I uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat DC. I disabled the antivirus as he attempted to apply the failure 15.6.30060 patch. Manually, I downloaded and tried to apply the 15630060.MSP patch. I ran anti-virus and anti-malware analysis, negative results and I have run Chkdsk and CCleaner.

I can't think of anything else to try and would be very grateful if anyone can suggest something that might help me to overcome this obstacle.

    GaryK

For any future reference - Mohd Amish came up with a fix. Please note the specific circumstance: If you already have Acrobat installed DC updates fail, try this: start Acrobat DC. Rename the OOBE folder in \Program Adobe OOBE. Bak. Try the update. If it works, you can remove the old OOBE folder.

I used firefox 35.0.1 and just applied the update 36.0 a few hours ago.

When I double-click on the icon of firefox, it bumps on the error message 2.

  • Beta 5 of Firefox does not check the updates from an account without administrator privileges and won't ask administrator privileges apply downloaded update

I can't get Firefox Beta 5 to check the updates using an account without administrator privileges. Beta version of Firefox 5 downloaded an update (from 2 Beta Beta 3), and now, there's a button apply update in the Firefox window that won't hurt, even though the update is properly applied from another account with administrator privileges.

I use Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. In general, I use Firefox for an account without administrator privileges and provide the only administrator credentials when you are prompted to install or remove software.

When Firefox 3.6.11 came out I wanted to update. I clicked "apply downloaded update now... "and then just rebooted without updating. I went to the download page, download the program installation and upgrade in this way. It worked, but now it still says "apply downloaded update now...» "in the Help menu.
Why it does this and how can I fix this without losing my bookmarks and settings?

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update doesn't work does not correctly)

Delete the files in the folder updates\0 and updates:

    • Download a new copy of Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    • Remove the Firefox program folder before installing this copy of the Firefox installer.
    • It is important to remove the Firefox program folder to delete all the files and make sure that there is no problem with the files that were the remains after uninstallation.

Your bookmarks and other profile data is stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a (rei) installation, but make sure that you do not select delete data of a personal nature if you decide to uninstall Firefox.

How to install an older version go?

Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you remove Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You can print these steps or consult them in another browser.

    1. Download the latest version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org office and save the installer to your computer.
    2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (click on quit in the file menu or Firefox).
    3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
      • Windows:

        • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
        • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
      • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
      • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
    4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
      1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
      2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.

More information on the resettlement of Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use an uninstaller to third parties as part of this process. This could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and passwords saved. They can be retrieved easily unless they have been backed up on an external device! See back up and restore the information contained in the profiles of Firefox.

Please report to say if this helped you!

    Thank you.

You can do manual updates - apply all updates in the ORDER NUMBER
    Acrobat Update http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows

To be able to uninstall, you need to maybe do a repair installation (to solve registry problems) or a full install and then uninstall

If this does not work, Windows Installer Cleanup Utility http://support.microsoft.com/KB/290301

More read here for CCleaner remove applications

Do, of course, to do all this as an administrator, not in a user account

  • 'Vulnerable' plugins are already updated. Firefox does not recognize updates!

I've updated my VLC plugin to latest software version 2.1.3 and the plugin. Yet, Firefox says it is 'vulnerable' for no reason. I also stopped and restarted firefox after the update, and it did not have a hint of difference.

In addition, Adobe Reader 9.5.5 is the version of Reader 9 and is perfectly fine according to my Add-ons Manager, but yet, it is also 'vulnerable' according to the plugin to update checkfor absolutely NO reason. When I've upgraded to Adobe Reader X many years ago that he did not at all with firefox as the plugin had serious problems and was not easy to use even outside firefox. I then reinstalled 9 and never returned.

Why Firefox cannot recognize the plugins updated and said they are vulnerable, and yet gives zero why?

Finally, if I go to the Add-ons Manager and click the "update now" in this page it only brings me to the page worthless telling me that the plugin was blocked, not knowing where to go to update. It's a really irritating problem that you will try the upgrade and you don't go to a Web site that will allow you to do so, it will take you to a page that says absolutely NOTHING of value.

If you want to replace the VideoLAN\VLC\ program files that have not been updated with the win32, such as npvlc.dll Installer (and others?):

You can get the Zip Package vlc - 2.1.3 - Win32.zip linked here and extract the content: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

If you do not want to I would consider a complete uninstall VLC media player 2.1.3 then a resinstall.

  • Apply the Update Beta 15 - where are the Add-ons? other features?

After you apply the updated Beta 15, I lost access to the modules. By clicking on the button in the logo of Firefox does not work; Neither does Ctrl-Shift-A. The mouse functions do not work also. Don't know what else does not work. I used the system restore to recover the Beta 14.

    cloverman,

I'm glad that you have solved the problem.

It is really important when Firefox it difficult to determine if other software could be the problem. I think that those who have an open mind to this possibility probbly reach solutions sooner.

One possible cause is security software (firewall, antivirus) that prevents or limits Firefox or plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after the detection of changes (update) for the Firefox program.

Delete all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container in the permissions list in the firewall and leave your firewall again ask permission to get full unlimited access to the internet for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.

You can try to reset (power off / on) of the router.

  • How to replace "apply downloaded update now" with "Check for Updates" in the menu help when the update fails because the downloaded update files are missing but the "Ready to install update" window keeps appearing?

    Question

I have another type of problem with Firefox

    Description

Window "Ready to Install" Firefox "Software Update" appeared. The folder "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updates\0" contained the files update.mar, update.status and update.version. Each of the 3 files have been deleted. The next time that Firefox has been started, no update occurred because update files were missing. In the Menu bar, clicking Help showed in the menu drop-down that "apply downloaded update now" was always on the list. By clicking on "Apply downloaded update now" open "Software Update" window "Ready to install update", so that Firefox still considers that the update files exist, but they do not. In the window "Software Update", by clicking on "Restart Firefox" restart of Firefox, but once again it there's no update, and remains "apply downloaded update now" on the Help menu. How can "Apply downloaded update now" be replaced by "Check for Updates" so the update files can be downloaded?

You can manually reset the software update feature by closing Firefox and remove the file "updates" (which seems you have done) and the two files "active - update.xml" and "updates.xml" - these are in the installation (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox) directory or in the profile folder (C:\Documents and Settings\nom_utilisateur\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\something.default).

If it does not, see our KB article How to resolve the failure of the update of Firefox update error message - the section of 'last resort' can be useful, or or read this article from MozillaZine KB, software update.
