Firefox launch iTunes

I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I have 11 of Firefox with the Noscript plugin. I installed iTunes 10.6.1 (although I had the same problem with 10.6).

The music on iTunes link at the bottom of http://www.americanidol.com/ does not work properly in IE8 (which I usually do not use) - it does not work for firefox.

In firefox, it falls on http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/ that says to download the item you just requested, you must have iTunes.

In IE8, it launches the link

http://iTunes.Apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMultiRoom?fcId=509635833 & i = 1 gn-mscache & ign - msr = http % 3A % 2F %2F www.americanidol.com% 2F

When I paste this link into IE8 it launches straight into iTunes, but when I paste in Firefox goes back to this download page.

I finally understood what the problem/solution. To fix, I had to add AmericanIdol.com to NoScript XSS white list in the advanced options (allowing just temporarily all the scripts for all the pages referenced by AmericanIdol.com and Apple.com does not solve the problem).

  • How can I stop Firefox opening iTunes or ask me which application I want to use for the links from the itms/itmss?

When I opened iTunes App Store link, Firefox wants to automatically open iTunes. In Options > Applications, I found the itms and itmss content types, which causes this behavior. I can change "always ask them", but when I do, I get a automatic every time I open the link asking me to choose between "iTunes" or "Choosing an Application." To avoid future pop ups, I check "Remember my choice for itmss links" but only after selecting iTunes or another application. There should be a third option there for 'doing nothing '. Is it possible to tell Firefox to ignore completely the content of the itms/itmss?

    • Network.protocol - handler.

You just solved my problem - there is no Network.protocol - handler.external. itms or itmss prefs, so I added the Boolean values:

    Network.protocol - handler.external.itms
    Network.protocol - handler.external.itmss

Set to false and voila! No iTunes, don't ask me what program to use.

Sometimes the file that stores the file associations is damaged with updates and either conflicting entries correctly. The solution is simply to rename the file and have Firefox regenerate. If you want to try, here's what you do.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.

Leave this window open, wwitch back to Firefox and output

Pause while Firefox finishing his cleaning, then rename the mimeTypes.rdf to something like mimeTypes.old

Restart Firefox. I hope that now Zimbra is detected and you can select. Please note that if you already changed your configuration to a PDF file from the viewer into another, you have to change it again.

Before the last update Firefox, running on Ubuntu if it makes a difference, I was able to select close on the file menu (and if memory is also by clicking the x on the last tab) to exit an instance of Firefox open via file new window.

With the 9.x update this no longer seems to be possible. If I choose the file altogether starting an instance that was launched via the new window, all instances of Firefox away!

It's embarrassing because I have to leave all the instances that have been launched.

I tried closing last tab add on, and it allows me to close the last tab content but still leaves the instance running with a blank tab.

Is there a setting somewhere that I missed to restore the operating mode to exit the additional instances of Firefox without killing all the previous configuration?

Each window must have its own close button (big X in the right corner.)
But it depends on the 'Theme' that you use in Ubuntu. This large X chould be a round point when you hover over the color changes. It could be on the left instead of the right site.
This screenshot shows the close the left side, but always an X button.

CTRL + SHIFT + W closed the window Active.

  • Unable to launch iTunes

Download "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience. "message at the launch of iTunes in Win XP SP3. Microsoft Management Console is missing the file run for local service "Application Management". I've exhausted all the suggestions of Apple online support.

Excuse me, but I'm not going to try very hard to help to repair a system that has been trashed by the use of a registry cleaner (see note below).

    That said...

I suggest following the procedure below between the lines of * to uninstall remainders of your old installation of iTunes and do a clean install of iTunes:

    ***************************************************************************************************

    New facilities corrupted iTunes.

Used to have a tool just to do this, called the Windows Installer Microsoft Cleanup utility.  Apparently, however, when this tool has been used (I think with MS Office), removes sometimes more he was supposed to, and that's why Microsoft has removed the tool of its download servers.

The Windows Installer Cleanup utility is always available from http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html , or you can use the free Revo Uninstaller.  Before using or the other of these tools, create a restore point from the system, backup the registry with C:\WINDOWS\ERUNT, or (if you can afford) creates a full disk image or a clone - just in case.

Here are the usual directions to perform a "clean installation" of iTunes, based on Support of Apple HT1926 article.

Go to control panel > Add/Remove programs
    Remove these applications:
    1 Apple Software Update
    2. Apple Mobile Device Support
    3 Hello
4 iPod for Windows (this may or may not exist, be it, it is not necessary, then we can remove it)
    5 iTunes
    6 QuickTime

Open my computer > C: > Program Files
    Delete these files (if present)
    1 iPod
    2 iTunes
    3 QuickTime

    Empty your temp directory:
Open my computer > C: > Documents & Settings > username > Local Settings and delete the contents of the folder called "Temp".

If you don't see the local settings, enable hidden files:
Tools > Folder Options > view tab
Select Show Hidden Files & folder, and then click OK

Once this file is empty, restart the computer

[See note above regarding cleanup utility]
Download & install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Launch the utility: start > programs > Windows Installer Clean Up
Select one of the applications mentioned above and click on remove

    Restart the computer
Download & reinstall iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

    ***************************************************************************************************

The question of the function of management applications may be relevant to your problem, because this service provides software installation services.  However, management of service applications is not included in Windows XP Home Edition (you don't mention what version of XP you have), IMO so chances are that this has nothing to do with your problem are low.

You could take a peek in the "system" log in the event viewer (start > run > eventvwr > OK) for any errors of "Service Control Manager" and if yes, double click it and see if they mention the applications management service.  If there's nothing there, click the "Copy" icon (right underneath the up/down arrows) and paste the information into an answer here.

The "status" of the service is not as important as the "Startup type".  The latter is supposed to be set to 'Manual', which means that the service will be launched whenever something that needs the services requested.

The reason why your search has not is that you were looking for the wrong thing. There is no file named "svchost.exe - k netsvcs" - he has just svchost.exe.

Svchost.exe is a Windows XP application core.  It is used for processes of 'host' run from dynamic link (DLL files) libraries rather than the exe or other executables directly.  The rest of this line (i.e. - k netsvcs) indicates a particular instance of svchost.exe which group (defined in the registry) services will be hosted by this instance of svchost.  For more details, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314056/

  • After installing Windows 7, cannot launch iTunes

After installation of Windows 7 64-bit, 64-bit iTunes refuses to launch. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it still refuses to run, no autorun, not in the itunes directory, anywhere.

    * original title - Windows 7 64 bit killed iTunes *.

    Hello ronthomasfsu,

ITunes is a product of part 3, I tried to get to the best place for support, which is the Apple Support.
You can have another program that is interfering with iTunes on Windows 7.

You have errors in the event log?
To open Event Viewer: click on the Start button. In the search box, type and then event viewer from the list of results, double-click Event Viewer.
Then, check the logs of system and Application events for possible errors.

Then, since it was an upgrade of Windows Vista, you can try the following to see if it will be useful.
Run the System File Checker to see if you have corrupted system files.
    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any violation of the integrity and repair any damaged operating system files.

    Reboot your system.

See: the Article ID: 929833 - how to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Now run the command chkdsk:
1 disable any security software before you attempt to upgrade or do a clean install.
    2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)
    3. disconnect all external devices before installing.
    4. check your hard disk for errors:
    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f /r
When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

Now, try and see if iTunes will install or update successfully.

If the problems persist, you can do a upgrade in Place or repair.
Follow the steps below to perform a repair.

The upgrade in place is a tool to fix the system. Thanks to the special upgrade process, we will be able to repair the system. The upgrade in place will not affect the settings like photos, movies, documents, etc. that are saved on the computer. Although this operation will not remove or modify the files and installed programs, I suggest always that you back up important files before you do. In addition, you may need to reinstall the device drivers after this operation.

The detailed steps are included as below:

    On-site upgrade
    ====================
1 log on to the system first.
    2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the DVD drive of the computer.
    3. Click Start and select computer.
    4. find the "setup.exe" file in the DVD-ROM and double-click it.

    5. click on install now.

    6. When you are prompted to enter the product key, please click Next directly without entering any key. The installation wizard will prompt and ask if you confirm to install Windows 7 without the key and choose please confirm.

    7. When you get to the screen ' which type of installation you want', click upgrade to upgrade the Windows 7 system files.

Note: When running the upgrade on the spot, the system will restart automatically (several times) to merge the files and programs, please leave the computer alone and does not configure it until the 'upgrade on the spot"finished. The system should start Windows 7, once it is upgraded. Once the computer is running "upgrade on the spot", you can go and leave the computer and it completes automatically.

Now, try again and see if iTunes update and install.

If please reply back and let us know if this helped with your question.

    Thanks,

  • Firefox launches several times without asking

I tried to restore my system windows 7. .no help. I tried to remove Firefox, got MSG that he was "still ongoing" and although he was not running... can not remove it...

From my own experience: the message "always running" is correct, because there is still a Firefox (or two or more) running in the background. To remove

    • Start the Task Manager
    • sort the list in the process tab and
    • remove entries from Firefox

Of course, you can get rid of them by simply booting the PC.

I installed the new operating system Mac OS X Lion. Suddenly, Firefox starts the time starts - it is NOT in my connection objects in my account settings.

I found on another site that when you choose stop there is a checkbox indicating to reopen the windows when you log back in. If the box is checked apps/windows you had open when stopping down, i.e. firefox will autolaunch when you restart your computer. I unchecked the box and firefox did not autolaunch again. I hope this helps.
