  From your description, it seems that your MacBook Pro is powered, as soon as you hear the startup chime and see the light on the keyboard.  Thus, it seems that the problem may be with your screen or the video card.

  Have you tried all troubleshooting such as resetting the PRAM or the performance of the Diagnostics of Apple? If this isn't the case, that is where I would start.
