I have a very old iPod (first generation, I think, with 4 buttons below the screen and a scroll wheel).  I want to restore the iPod and erase all my music and other data before giving it away to a computer reuse and recycling instead.  When I try to do with iTunes, I get a message saying that I need to connect with Firewire.  But the firewire on my iPod cable connection does not fit the ports Firewire on my Mac Mini to 2012.  Is there another way to restore?

I have a very old iPod (first generation, I think, with 4 buttons below the screen and a scroll wheel).

It's actually a 3rd gen iPod, if these four buttons are round buttons touch (this orange glow), in a row between the screen and support on wheel.  It has a connector dock, as later iPods, but he charges that a port FireWire, and you must connect to a FireWire port when you perform a restore.

You need to connect it to a computer running iTunes to do a restore.  If your Mac mini has a FireWire port, FireWire 800.  You need an adapter like this one, to convert it to a FireWire 400.

  • Satellite M100 - is a disabled firewire port saves battery power?

    Hey everybody

    I'm not so IEEE...
If I disable firewire in Device Manager it will stop it and it will help save the battery?

    Hi Dmitrij

I doubt that disabled firewire port will help to save the battery.
If you want to save battery power, you should check the options and settings of Toshiba Power Saver.

    Check the HowTO document
+ How to configure my computer for optimal use of battery? +
You can find it in the Forum s box HowTo.

If you are using Vista, then I recommend that you check the Vista power settings.

  • BSOD shutdowns and flakey firewire port - help?

Well I'm getting really frustrated on this laptop, it's almost 2 weeks
and I already had 2 BSOD the strange accident where the mouse moves, but nothing
Otherwise, around, it works so a forced reboot was necessary.
Today, I got a BSOD everything I did was run a few the taskbar called untility
    physician network or something.
    error message:

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (no address information)
    STOP: 0 X 00000000050

someone suggested that I may have a memory problem or my file is corrupted.
in any case here is a run down on what I installed that day with my laptop.
-Installed all XP security updates and patches
-Installed Firefox 1.0.1 (do not trust IE6.0 yet)
-Iriver (my mp3 player) installed Download Manager
-Installed winamp 2.0 and Creative Cam Notebook.
I ran a chkdsk forced start and no problems found.
Another thing I found interesting was almost every time my laptop BSOD I usually
find a yellow marker on my net adapter 1394 (firewire port) in device mananger
("cannot start device") don't know if that is related or not. A restart seems
turn off this yellow marker, but I am rather unhappy that BSOD is none what laugh.

Anyone else had problems or similar recommendations?

    see you soon,

    Richard S.

    Hi Richard

I understand that you that you are unhappy with it all the problems, but there may be many reasons for this. In my opinion this can happen because of some useless day or some drivers installed by third-party software that you have installed on your laptop.

Please reinstall OS using the recovery CD. After firs start check in Device Manager if there is some hardware problem. If not you than trying to start the free Config (doctor of connectivity) and a few other tools Toshiba to check if everything is ok.

If everything is ok try to install SP2 if you n t have on your machine (just SP2 and not separately updates and patches). I don't know, but some of the A60 are delivered with SP2.

Install all your programs slowly and carefully follow what happened after each step you did.

  • 15 - r132wm: I need to add a firewire port to a 15-r132wm. USB to firewire won't work. Any suggestions?

I want to add a firewire port to a computer laptop 15-r132wm.

It will be to connect a Sony handycam. The Sony can not use a converter USB to firewire.

What (other than getting another computer) would not work?

    Thanks, Neal Lewis

Nothing. It is a problem for users of the video camera. Personally, I have an older Thinkpad T61 with a firewire port, which I keep around only to connect to my Sony camcorder when necessary to remove digital movies. I put on a USB stick or SD card raw files and do the current editing on my laptop.

  • FireWire port on satellite A210-1AS

    Hello

    A simple question, I hope.

Could someone tell me if the Firewire Port is 4 or 6 pins... I can't find the info anywhere and I need to know what cable to connect my camcorder DV (4 pin), also... What is the meaning of the pines more (or less), would have thought they would be a standard connection, with a fixed amount of pine trees.

You can tell that I'm not very technical.

    Thank you
    Lee

All portable Toshiba have 4-pin firewire port.
Otherwise, if you have the laptop in front of you, you can see which port is available.

  • No firewire port

Pavilion 410y - I got a computer for one year. Today, I decided to take some dv camcorder tapes and put them on DVD. I have a DV firewire cable and a camcorder to the USB CORS, also avi connections. None work with the computer. No firewire port, no ports' avi and the USB is not recognized.

JVC support is useless, manly HP support wants to sell you a new computer, Windows 7 will tell you with power, nobody needs to know.

Ten years ago, it was a big deal to connect your camcorder to a computer, a point of sale, now, nobody cares.

Any ideas would be very useful. Being of the adapters, USB drivers, HDMI port

    Hello

The best option would be to install a PCI Express x 1 Firewire card.  An example of this would be here.

The card fits into any vacant PCI Express x 1 slots - the three short vertical black slots to the top left of your Motherboard.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite A100 doesn't detect camcorder connected to the firewire port

Recently, I upgraded my Satellite A100 for XP Pro SP3.
In order to capture the video from my camcorder Canon I attached the camera to the 1394 port, but the computer does not detect my camera.

I have changed the cable, restored the software factory default but the presist still problem.
The camera works fine with another computer, which means that there is some setting or a hardware problem with 1394 port.

    Help, please.

    Hello

Did you check device manager if the IEEE 1394 (firewire port States) bus host controller has been recognized correctly?
Are there any yellow exclamation marks?

    Try this workaround:
-in Device Manager, remove the IEEE 1394 bus host controller
    -restart the laptop
-Wait that windows reinstalled this controller again
-Connect the camera and turn it on.

Hey everyone: I have a Slimline s3700y yesterday and I would find the firewire port.  Where is he?

    Thank you!

    Hi ccrfan1,

Looks like you have a 1394 port (Apple calls FireWire, Sony callis it iLink, etc...) and it is located at the rear of the machine.  Find a photo of your plate at the bottom of this document.  You want to #4.

  • Unable to connect to a Sony DV from my laptop using the firewire port after the installation of updates

Original title: connection for Vista FireWire camcorder problem

I used to be able to connect my Sony DV camcorder to my laptop using the FireWire on the camcorder and laptop.   Once it is connected the Movie Maker detect my camcorder and automatically transfer the video.  However, since I've updated my computer laptop July 13, 2012, my laptop does not recognize not the camcorder.  I checked my computer and your camcorder is not yet listed.  I checked the latest updates for the driver of the firewire port 1394 and is the day the device is functioning properly.  Can anyone throw any light on this.  The only thing I can think is that since the update, he may have done something for the connection.

    Hi Scarlett,

Thanks for the post. I'm sorry to hear that the Sony DV camcorder is not detected.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I will definitely help you with this.
To help you suggest several steps to solve the problem, I would appreciate it if you could answer the following questions:

    1. What is the model number of the Sony DV camcorder?
    2. you receive an error code or message?

3 update do you have installed?

See the Windows updates are installed:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/see-which-Windows-updates-are-installed

Please follow the methods and mark the question below:

    Method 1:

First of all, let us check the status of the FireWire port in Manager devices to do this, follow the steps below:

Check the status of the port in FireWire devices Manager

    a. Click Start, in the search box type Device Manager and press to enter.
    b. If you don't see the FireWire controller (probably listed under "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers") in the list, then it is not correctly installed.
    c. If you see a yellow exclamation point, then you must install the drivers, who are usually on a CD that comes with the FireWire card with the camcorder.

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us

    Step 2:

A device driver is not installed or a hardware device does not work correctly after you install a Service Pack in Windows Vista:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/948187

    Method 3:

Connecting i.Link® (IEEE 1394) of the camcorder is not recognized by the computer.

  • need express pci card with firewire port laptop brand new

My wife has just bought a HP Pavilion model h8 - 1260t with Windows 7 64 bit.  She has a 30 "monitor film screen, which requires two USB ports, a DVI and Firewire 1394 port.  The new computer has no firewire port anywhere, but when it is opened, we see there are three slots PCIexpress available.  There are PCIe cards available 1394 (such as Rosewill PCIe model 3 Ports 1394 b RC-506E, as seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815166027), , but there seems to be a wide variety, and I don't know which to buy.

I am concerned about what transfer speed to get (I don't really know; is good enough 800Mbps?) and what power connector on the card (I want to be sure we have a power supply compatible plug) will take place, and I don't know the difference between 1394 and 1394b, or even if it makes a difference.  I can't just take the card out of the old computer because the firewire port is connected directly to the motherboard, and I think that the old computer is still pre-PCIexpress

The monitor is very good and quite expensive, so we really do not want to have to buy a new screen after spending so much on the computer.  I thought I had checked for compatibility with everything, but I guess I missed the requirement of firewire.  We spent almost all day today trying to get help in various stores, but nobody seems to be able to help.  We had to buy the computer online because there is no good nearby computer store, so I want to do ot I do not another mistake and end up buying two or three cards until I find myself on the whole correct.

Thanks a lot for any help

    Hello

If you cannot find a molex connector 4 unused and then look for a connector used 4 pins.  I would certainly find an adapter in Y for you.  The other option is to use an adapter SATA Y more than molex and tap into the hard drive power cable, or even use an unoccupied SATA power port.

  • HP Pavilion P2-1140 does not have a way to connect to a Firewire port and USB transfer is not supported by Windows 7 to connect the Sony HC20 Handycam.

    Original title: Sony Hanycam HC20

I just bought a HP Pavilion P2 - 1140 W7 64 bit and may not know how to download video from my Sony Handycam HC-20 who

using a Firewire connection. P2-1140 does not have a way to connect to a Firewire port and USB transfer is not supported by Windows 7.

I looked in the spec of my card mother HP and there is no additional slots to add adapters, no PCI, PCI-e or anything that looks like

as if you can add anything. I know that the Firewire to USB converters cable do NOT work, any suggestions please

There are USB firewire converters, but I think it will be a situation of hit or miss--they are unable to work or perform very well.

The only option I can think of that would work would be to use AV out on the camera and a USB capture card that records on the computer.
You can also consider going back to the computer and get a different model that is built in firewire support or at least an extension connector in order to get an expansion card.
  • My h8 - 1027c has a firewire port?

    Hello

The map you linked to is a PCI card and unfortunately, your motherboard doesn't have this type of accommodation - there a PCI Express x 16, that is mainly used for a map graphic and three PCI Express x 1 slots (black 3 small horizontal slots to the bottom left of your motherboard ) so you will need a firewire expansion card that corresponds to this type of slots as previously I've linked to.

    Kind regards
